Weinergate: Private Investigation Will Not Do
by PubliusRep. Anthony Weiner’s comments today and yesterday raise new questions, and emphasize the urgent need for a full, official, and independent investigation of the allegation that one or more of his account(s) were “hacked.”
A new theory suggests that it would have been possible for someone with Weiner’s private yfrog email address to send a picture to that address which would then appear on his Twitter feed as if Weiner himself had sent it.
That means someone other than Weiner, who had “hacked” or otherwise obtained his yfrog email address, could have “pranked” him.
Yet the same result would have occurred if Weiner had emailed an image to his own yfrog account, and only would have occurred once he had authorized yfrog to use his Twitter account. Weiner appears to have had no knowledge or understanding of the yfrog feature.
The yfrog feature, in other words, proves nothing–it only suggests that Weiner could have been both “hacked” and “pranked.” And again, he could simply have sent the link to the offending yfrog image himself, from his mobile device or another source. The conflicting theories cry out for investigation.
Weiner said today that he did not send the photograph, and that a reference to Seattle in one of his tweets was a “terrible coincidence.” We are prepared to take him at his word. Yet he repeated his initial claim that his account had been “hacked”–an allegation that calls for an official, not a private, investigation.
And even if we assume everything Weiner has said is true, he still has not given a clear or credible answer about whether the image is of him; he has not explained why other images were deleted from his yfrog account; and he insists on an internal investigation that will report to him alone.
Hacking into private accounts, impersonating a federal elected official, and deleting evidence that may be subject to federal investigation are each criminal offenses. Failure to report suspected cybercrime is also a breach of House of Representatives rules.
The American people deserve to know whether these violations, having been alleged or described, actually occurred.

Under the Equal Protection Clause, every American Citizen who happens to be a Civilian now has the Right In Law to forgo the Civilian Authorities when a Crime is Committed (even if said Citizen is the one who committed the crime) and launch their own Private Investigation.
While this will not save someone like Bradley Manning, because Manning falls under the Jurisdiction of the United States Military, a whole lot of other very bad people are about to go free in the United States of America.
So it becomes" Why are you being so evasive Mr. Weiner?"
It's not the picture so much as the evasion that makes him look guilty.
IF Weenie Head were a Republican, he would have been made to resign within 24 hours of this incident.
No matter how you spin it, the FBI does need to do an invest – PERIOD …and Weenie will go down.
Weiner should just be happy his first name isn't Richard.
Looks like the WeinerGram Guy is trying to minimize this to his advantage.
If I were Jesse Jackson, I'd be asking "Who's the owner of that boner?".
I am somebody. Right-on.
At this point, the people MOST damaged by Weiner's refusal of a full FBI investigation are two "regular folks" or "civilians" or "little people".
Weiner says he doesn't know the woman but she's getting hassled by the public, and the patriotusa dude is getting death threats.
Weiner MUST send this over to the authorities for investigation so that innocent civilians can be cleared or charged.
He is hurting LOTS of people with this. As well as making Twitter and YFrog seem like unsafe services, and now there's doubt as to the integrity of Congressional data.
I am now officially boycotting everything NY until such time as a full official investigation is concluded. I currently buy many business supplies from NY companies and just concluded negotiating a replacement strategy. With luck the new suppliers will give me better service. This is not at any stage a small undertaking but principles and the rule of law matter!
Weinocchio's nose is growing longer by the hour. Could not have happened to a more deserving figure.
COULD IT BE the pics were taken by a gay guy boyfriend who unilaterally sent the picture and it's guy guy boy friend Weiner don't want the country to find out about? It really would be a gay thing to do…so no point in anyone trying to make sense out if the motive for gay guy boy friend doing it.
Weiner seems to be trying to protect someone.I don't think it's his wife or his girl friend.
Well, we'll shortly see if there is anyone with authority that is willing to follow through with an investigation…. We certainly know The Wiener has no intent to accept responsibility. My guess is the republicans will sit quiet and the devilcRAT's are trying to bury this and make it go away.
It's simple: Weiner is not asking for an FBI or Capitol Hill police investigation because he knows the answer: he sent the photo. If he reports the alleged hacking, it will take the authorities about 20 minutes to determine that no crime was committed because there was no hacking and he may be subject to criminal sanctions for filing a false police report. Ergo, Weiner was responsible. Journalists who are serious about getting to the bottom of the incident should concentrate on two or three questions and repeat them and repeat them and repeat them until Weiner answers them. As it is, Weiner says absolutely nothing in his "answers." He is obfuscating the truth. Don't let up until he gives a straight answer. Congress does not have a more dishonest, measly-mouthed member than Weiner, which says quite a lot about his character.
Well publius, you are far more kind to weiner in stating that you take him at his word. I wouldn't take a drama queen known for childish antics, at his word. His attitude and behaviour suggest a man with some serious issues, the least of which is telling the damn truth.
This is getting sickening, a man who is responsible for decisions that effect not just those in NY, but ALL of us and yet, the little man can't talk like an adult and screams like a little girl. Yea, I believe him, NOT!! All the fools who believe that this idiot can be trusted to make sound decisions for this country when he can't make grown up choices in his own life, get a clue!
Damn it Congress, DO YOUR FREAKIN JOB!!
At this point, the cover-up is so ridiculously inept that I have to assume that the lawyer he’s exploring options with is board certified in family law, because I have a feeling that his wife is talking to one of those right about now.
This guy, Weiner, would be at the front of the line yelling for an investigation and further sanctions if this were someone else, namely from the GOP. He is a serial liar and deflector. His body language tells it all that he is as guilty as the day is long. An elitist mentality like his won't allow him to just say he made a stupid mistake and move on. With people like him it's always somebody else fault or how dare you question ME. I hope this guys political career is over cause someone of this caliber doesn't belong in the people's house.
He must conduct a private investigation or there will certainly be an investigation of his privates.
Weiner has for the most part played the same card that Obama has been playing…I inherited this picture! The guy is a joke and is incapable of telling the truth or accepting responsibility for his mistake. Arrogant and egotistic jacka$$.
Elitists like him believe they are above the law and it really doesn't matter who he hurts as long as he gets what he wants. Another fine example of what is wrong in Washington D.C. and I don't care what party they represent, wrong is wrong and lying is lying. If you have no integrity, you surly don't belong representing other people.
Knock knock
Who's there?
Weiner
Weiner who?
Weiner you going to tell the truth about that Twiiter picture, Congressman?
How many of you have contacted your Congress-person? Start a fire under their lazy butts & raise cain. Use the example of Rep Chris Lee in your letter – who of course had his resignation to Speaker Boehner within hours after the shirtless photo surfaced on Gawker. Demand to know why there hasn't been an investigation started by the FBI & the Capitol Police, since obviously the fact that a Congressional Twitter or Facebook account has allegedly been hacked is a matter of national security. Or a matter of a Congressman lying, which means he needs to go. Now.
Just go to http://www.house.gov – find your Rep & then contact info – the e-mail form will be there. Preaching to the choir isn't going to change anything in this situation.
But a privates investigator is what's needed.
The whole thing smells rope a dopey. After we all yell for an investigation for a couple weeks a staffer will come forward and say he did it as a prank / joke … We look lame, they say how we keep trying to divert talk from serious stuff…
I wish you were right about his political career being over, but everyone is making excuses for him. Meanwhile, his internet-savvy friends are covering his tracks. I am hoping you are right, but I fear that this will be spun and spun and then forgotten, just like the Maxine Waters case.
Publius. Give us a break. The Rose Law Firm already cleared Weiner of all claims by Breitbart extending out to 2013.
CASE CLOSED.
New theory: Most. Bizarre. Pocket. Dial. EVER.
I just hope whent this is all said and done and Weiner is removed from Congress that he is driven home by the Oscar Meyer Weinermobile. I'd pay to get a picture of that, but I'm sure someone would tweet it for us.
you got it. a freakin' US CONGRESSMAN is "sexting" like he's a dumb teenage girl?
when is the MSM gonna start calling people on the left 'stupid'? if, IF, Dan Quayle was guilty of EVERYTHING they ever accused him of, he wouldn't be this f***ing dumb on his worst day.
You're killin' me!!
TOO FUNNY!
You've gone straight to the heart of the issue. A private law firm, regardless of their "findings," can't make the results of their "investigation" public. The attorney-client privilege trumps the public's need (or wish) to know.
And, as you said, the Weiner doesn't dare go to the Feebies or any other law enforcement agency, and report a crime that never happened. To do so would leave him in jeopardy of being charged with filing a false police report, which can be a felony.
The media needs to do their job. As much as it pains me to say so, Dana Bash (of CNN) did an excellent job of pressing Rep. Weiner for answers, even pointing out that he came out to talk to them, and that it's not as if they laid in wait for him and surprised him with their questions.
Weiner does not want an official investigation into the alleged hacking. If an official investigation is initiated, Weiner will have to be on record with the FBI that one or more of his accounts was hacked. If he does this knowing that the statement is false, he will be committing a crime.
If he wasn't acting so sketchy then I'd have an inkling of, however slight or minuscule, belief of this far-fetched story but as he acts and how it stands, I just can't believe him at all.
He's a Democrat…they are obviously above the Law…Rangel? Franken? Kennedy? Obama?
Exactly. And half the GOP mopes would have been clamoring for such a resignation. Democrats? Not so much.
If the boner don't fit, you must aquit…..
Hmmm, maybe he suffer Penile-occhio's disease in which a different part grows with lies…….
Hey, WeinerWonderBoy, is this an image of you?

Who is 'Dan Wolfe' @PatriotUSA76?
What did Andrew Breitbart know and WHEN?
In other words, a "privates investigation"?
I still want to know where his wife, Hillary's maid is in all this. Is she pulling a Hillary and "Standing by her man?"
One problem that the pervert progressives have is that they can't keep their things where they belong.
Their focus is to make their privates public. Or is that publcs public.? Normal men are not fixated on their genitalia. This Weenie needs a shrink and needs to lay off the booze.
It seems obvious to me that the reason Weiner doesn't want to get the FBI or Capital Police involved is that not only would they quickly determine that is was Weiner that sent the picture, but that also this isn't the first time he did something like this. I think that he has a LOT more inappropriate stuff in his private message files to other women that would be quickly discovered in a REAL investigation. I would LOVE to see a thorough search of all of his computer files. I firmly belive that he has been doing this kind of thing for a long time.
Great sense of Huma!
@What did Andrew Breitbart know and WHEN?
That Conservabot9000 was pathetic FROM THE FIRST TIME HE POSTED!
How late is the buffet open?
Hey, Publius. You little worm. God Bless John Wilkes Booth.
I have come to detest all the jokes about this one, they are getting old really fast. But that one did make me laugh. Props to you good sir.
Weinergate is over. Weiner won. MSM has the ability to divert attention away from all liberal lies. Obama will win in 2012 for the same reasons. The population of the U.S. has been diluted to the point that there are more parasites than patriots. Our educational system will perpetuate the plantation, government-owes-us mentality as much as is necessary to keep voters pulling the Democrat lever.
Just like O. J. said he was looking for the "real killers " of his wife.
Not only will the MSM prop up Obama in November of next year, but they're currently attempting to insert their favorite Mormon as the GOP candidate.
All that you said is true. For my purposes, I must pretend it is untrue. I will fight like hell between now and November 2012. I don't know what I'll do after that.
The electorate generally gets the kind of government it deserves. Unfortunately, when only half the people pay taxes, the other half become very powerful. The Boy King only needs a plurality in most states, and his goal was always fifty percent + one. Thanks ever so much for your reply.
Here's my question. Was the computer or Blackberry alleged to have been hacked by an outside source tied to the IT network of the US Congress? If so, then it logically follows that the US Congress has been hacked and this is a much larger problem than some little weasel of a Congressman flashing his "stiff" pickle over the net. Why this did not trip the trigger IMMEDIATELY for an FBI investigation is a mystery to me but I think the truth is finally beginning to see the light of day.
If a congressman's account was hacked, the police or FBI MUST investigate. It should not be left up to a private firm (paid for by Weiner) to decide the outcome.
I don't think Weiner got punk'd or pranked nearly as much as you did!! Way to go rightwing lunatics!! Better to be thought a fool than open your mouth and remove all doubt!!! Again. KUDOS.
Weenie is stalling for time and hoping the whole thingy will soften up, and go away. Err, I mean the MSM might go easy on him, or somrthing like that!
