Why the Bin Laden Killing May Not Boost Obama

But one expert on the region is warning against broad predictions today in assessing the impact of bin Laden’s death. “We need to be very cautious… in assuming it will now damage al Qaida and other Islamist extremist networks, or that we can predict the political and strategic consequences,” said Anthony H. Cordesman, in a commentary for the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
Strategically, he said bin Laden’s death “might have been a decisive blow in 2001 or 2002” but “may have far less effect today” on al Qaeda’s ability to attack targets. He said nobody today can possibly know how the killing of bin Laden will play with potential terrorists or in Pakistan. “We need to be very careful about what bin Laden’s death will mean for relations with Pakistan and for the war in Afghanistan,” he said.
Far from helping Obama politically, the latest development could increase the pressure on him to get American troops out of Afghanistan. It will, said Cordesman, “raise new questions about whether the Afghan war can really put an end to al Qaida and other terrorist sanctuaries and lead some of those who oppose the war to state that the U.S. and its allies should now withdraw.”
Cordesman said “it will take weeks and possibly months” to assess the strategic impact.
So that new “Mission Accomplished” banner that Democrats would love to unfurl at the next Obama campaign event? Probably best to keep it in George Bush’s attic. Less than 48 hours after such an historic event is a little too early for declarations of victory.

Dear President Obama and Mr. Schumer,
Sometimes I sit here and wonder if we are led by the most foolish and incompetent set of individuals that God has ever given breath to. You and Chuck Schumer should start a mutual “don’t blame me for the protection of my country society.” Do you really think that fighting this war in this manner will in any way stop Islamic Terrorism or Jihad? No sane man thinks that. I read somewhere that the most popular name for a muslim child went from Mohammad to Osama soon after the Islamic attacks occurred on our country. Wonder why that is? I’m guessing that most muslims are proud of Osama Bin Laden for attacking the United States of America and every time you and Chuck Schumer say we are not at war with Islam they are also happy to hear those words.
Why are they happy? Well, let’s go back to WW2. There was this guy named Adolf Hitler and he was so upset at how Germany was treated after WW1 in a very short period of time went from hanging wall paper to overthrowing a democracy and creating a war machine the world had never seen before. It crushed everything in its path. Hitler knew how to use diplomacy to his wartime advantage, as we signed nonaggression pacts, and formed isolationist movements, he formed battalions. Advantage Hitler. The same thing is happening right now. Every time you and people like Chuck schumer step forward and apologize for killing the enemy they smile and build their numbers; as in “Look how weak America is they apologize for what they have done, they fear what we think, more than what we do!”
How many children do you know with the name Adolf? I’m betting that that is a name somewhere below “Bartholomew.” See that is how muslims keep this fight alive they continually preach hatred, and bestow names of their martyrs onto their children. The same phenomenon occurred in the Third Reich. Unfortunately it took tens of millions of lives to stop Hitler. We did not just try to kill one Nazi. We had to kill them all, and knock out their ability to wage war. In this nuclear age we are still fooling ourselves in the belief that we can win this by fighting for one side of the same muslim arab coin. We can’t. Why do you think you were selected to be President? The only reason I believe you’re there is to make this all more palatable to avoid what happened in Viet Nam on the home front.
Look I’m tired. If I’m tired so is most of America and this foolishness has to stop. Like I keep saying either make a plan and fight for our national survival, or get the hell out. Because the payback from killing Osama is now on the come. And Barrack, what was it you said? “"We can absorb a terrorist attack . . .” in July of 2010. The truth is we can’t, thanks to liberal democrats and RINO Republicans we no longer have the reserves necessary to recover. As is always the case, I hope I’m wrong, but hope is an empty promise as the American people have so painfully discovered by electing you as President.

Obama taking credit for OBL's death is the same as a High School Principle taking credit for his school's state Football championship. We have been hunting this guy for over ten years now. If the military had the opportunity suddenly arise to take him out, they wouldn't have called for clearence from the president, they would have just done it.
As far as this helping Obama? His approval rating might (and I mean might) jump up a little. But after the all the hooplah is over, it will still be more about rising gas prices, jobs, the economy and our debt.
And OBL's death might rile up any terrorsits who see their leader as a martyr. Probably should have just kept his death a secret. We'll see if attacks on the USA start up as revenge for the death of their leader.

I'll give BO credit for having the nads to do what Clinton didn't. He gave the order to go when Clinton wouldn't. Of course, Osama had already done his damage by the time BO got his shot to give the "go." And as to what benefit this has to us, I'm of two minds. On the one hand, Osama deserves to rot in hell and letting him live even in a stinking cave sticks in my craw and flouts justice. On the other hand, alive in custody made him a target and dead makes him a martyr. Either way, we lose.

I think it's fantastic that Obama was able to get Bin Laden using tools and resources that you wanted to take away from Bush, and tools that Obama campaigned against in 2008. The Patriot Act turned out to be a good thing after all.

And unlike Clinton, Obama gave the go ahead to carry out the order.
But Bush Sr. got huge credit for Gulf War 1, but that victory lasted 6 months, before the Dems were attacking him for not focusing on the economy. I hope that Obama's bump in the polls is less than 6 months.

Think about it. If muslims are in Pakistan, that are in their military, are actively trying to attack the west. We got real trouble. It is one thing to one day wipe out Iran's command structure, a far different animal when dealing with a nuclear armed now proven fanatic muslim nation.

The killing of bin Laden, a good thing all around, will have no effect on the 2012 election. As someone pointed out on Hot Air, gas prices are still rising, crude oil prices are still rising, and food prices are still rising. Osama's death did not take a single penny off the national debt.
The left and Mr. Soetoro need to ask George H W Bush about how well foreign policy successes affect Presidential re-elections: in March of 1991 Bush 41 had a 90% job approval rating after the conclusion of the Persian Gulf War. A year and a half later he got 37% of the popular vote.

Dear President Obama,
When we won WW2 what happened? Did President Truman issue orders to protect the indigenous population from domestically based Nazis or Imperial Japanese? No. Did President Truman use the word “I” 5,000 times in a speech to the nation after we made the tough but necessary decision to drop Atomic weapons on Hiroshima and Nagasaki? No. So why do you? America is a team, divided now because of your failed efforts to lead this nation, that, for lack of a better word elects the President. So why do you insist on taking credit for things you are not doing and not standing by decisions that will make a doctor, a hospital bed, and a gallon of gas more expensive?
See that is the real rub Mr. Obama. Sure the liberal left can hope to resuscitate legions of useful dope smoking idiots to vote for you, and to be fair most will, but in the end there is this other party that has it’s ears on, I’m not talking about the big ones you are sporting. Recently Mrs. Pelosi remarked how she wished that elections did not matter; in essence she was hoping for a dictatorship lead by a liberal socialist that stood for “social justice.” Now that is some of the most un-American sentiment I’ve ever heard expressed. Elections must matter, because of all the peoples of the Earth, of all the countries of the Earth, the citizens of The United States of America deserve to have the final say on whether we place that final nail in our coffin as a nation in the form of “Obamacare,” or we choose the wiser path. When I was in my formative years a man named Ronald Reagan was the President.
Mr. Reagan did what ever he could do to remind us, the American people, that it our success wasn’t his doing. On his desk he had a plaque that read “There is no limit to what a man can do or where he can go if he doesn't mind who gets the credit." People of your political stripe hated Mr. Reagan and worked against his efforts. Of note is a movie called “The Day After.” This movie depicts nuclear devastation and subconsciously blames President Reagan for it. What we really had though was peace, then victory, and prosperity. Even for the defeated Soviets as they focused not on building bombs, but oil rigs and trade. Not all good trade, but at least their main focus was not dropping a hydrogen bomb on the White House. The American people know exactly what you are, and the political class thinks you may not win. By November of 2011 we will both know whether or not you are going to face a primary challenge. You see Mr. Obama we no longer live in an era when we are only given a limited number of media choices, we have changed the channel on you so many times no matter what you do, other then change your mind entirely, will we ever click back.

Obama succeeded in killing Bin Laden. The Armed Forces executed a perfect mission. It is a great day for this country.
Obama's reelection in not sealed, as some seemed to think by this operation. There is still a long time before November 2012.
Things that can derail his reelection are a high unemployment rate, high inflation with higher food and gas prices, a tightening up of loan availability which would trigger a recession. A second recession will destroy his Obama's reelection chances. If the FED decides to pursue another Quantitative Easing 3 &4, the dollar's value will be further depressed and hyper-inflation may result. Economics will be the issue of this election.

I know, did you read his speech? I read the transcripts because I can't stand to listen to him talk. How many times did he say the word "I"? I bet in Obama's mind, he is the one that gathered the intelligence, flew all the helecopters to the compound (except the one that crashed, he wasn't in charge of that one, you see), Assualted out the chopper, led the SEAL team up into the compound and then finally, while taking heavy fire, discharged his weapon a total of 3 times killing Osama, his son, and all of his guards. Of course the woman killed was shot by a Navy SEAL who was jittery during the mission. Then he scooped up Osama over his shoulder, ran back to the chopper, grabbed the stick and flew everybody home, right back to the white house. And he did it with such efficiencey, that he had time to play a few rounds of golf, take michelle on a date to a broadway show in NY, before addressing the nation on how HE got Osama Bin Laden.
I don't know? Maybe he was stuck in a sand trap on the back nine on a Washington D.C. Golf course?

I am going to have to respectfully disagree with you. First off, Obama was not the "coach". More like the High School Principal or Athletic Director. To say Obama "coached" anything is laughable. More like that one teammate's Mom that holds everybody's sweat pants right before the start their race.
Second, I believe it was a perfectly practiced hail mary TD pass done by our well trained boys in Naval Special Warefare Development Group…aka SEAL Team 6 who by the way didn't need any direction or help from Obama in making this mission a success.
Obama will try and reap the spoils of this victory, but we all know who "won" this game. Obama just happened to be in the right place at the right time.

In any case, Obama apparently overruled some naysayers, managed not to screw it up by telling the wrong folks (i.e. the Pakis and other "Allies"), and didn't impose such hobbling restraints on the shooters that they couldn't do the job or got killed. He managed to only lose one helicopter, and apparently all the troops got out safely. They don't seem be setting up to prosecute whoever shot bin Laden's wench.
For a Democrat, thats pretty darn amazing. Sure beats hell out Jimmy "Mr. Peanut" Carter.
