Profile in Courage…and Humor: Wisconsin Senate Leader Responds to AWOL Dem Proposal
by PubliusRecently, the leader of the Wisconsin Senate Democrats-in-exile, Sen. Mark Miller, offered to meet with the Senate GOP at the Wisconsin-Illinois border. This afternoon, Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald responded to this odd request. Behold a thing of beauty.
No matter what the national media is trying to say…Wisconsin Democrats are not winning. Must be out of tiger blood.

I love it !!!
Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald, great letter, you nailed it.
My hat is off to you all…great job.
Americans will win… the Unions will lose.
Fantasy Island, only in the movies. The business is in Madison, not Illinois, get on with it.
Give 'em hell, Senator!
"As you know, your opportunity to compromise and amend the bill was on the floor of the state
Senate. As you know, you forfeited that right and opportunity when you decided to flee the state
instead of doing your job."
Come on you Hack Libs – how can you say you "weren't allowed to debate" – when you RAN AWAY. We'll be waiting for your reply. Or will it just be name calling?
This has been going on long enough. Can't Walker just fire them?
Awesome letter! Glad to see that the Repubs are holding fast to their stance. Now the rest of America needs to follow suit. California in particular whose own financial woes would get a great deal of help under a bill Wisconsin is trying to implement.
"No matter what the national media is trying to say…Wisconsin Democrats are not winning. Must be out of tiger blood."
No matter what the national media is trying to say, ALL democrats are losing all across America. Even in those districts where they will still win elections, they're just trying to hold onto the supporters they have. They're NOT GAINING supporters.
We are winning, and they know their days are numbered. That's why they're fighting us so hard.
Always remember,
First they ignore you
Then they ridicule you
Then they fight you
And then YOU WIN.
Fitzgerald has it right…
If you can't take the heat, running away to Illinois is not exactly getting out of the kitchen…
Fleebaggers, I'll be surprised if your political careers aren't completely over…except in a small group of dinky districts where Socialists are the norm…
Hope you enjoyed your vacation…because I'll bet the voters will soon make it permanent…and this isn't the best economy to try for a new job…
Ouch. Sen. Fitzgerald calls a spade a spade.
"Parts Unknown, ILL" that's priceless.
a nice heavy dose of Go F Yourself from the Gov… good work sir
handled masterfully. this could've been written by F. Scott Fitzgerald!
Pwned!
OT to Mr. Flynn: Can you find ways other than the galactic FAIL known as Docstoc to display/link matter like this letter? Firefox won't display a Docstoc embed, and they won't let you see it on their site until you 1) give them your email address AND 2) agree to put up with their spam. I did find it quickly enough elsewhere on a search, but still…
Much appreciated.
No, but the Senate can act. I predict this will be over soon. But, it is going to get ugly for bit as the Dem internal battle works itself out. Miller probably will get hurt the most by this in the end. I can think of two others that will face Censure or possibly impeachment. Impeachment will be tough though. For Miller, it depends on where the majority of Dems fall.
Awesome letter !!
Ooooooh, that's gotta smart!
Ignoring the last election sums it up perfectly. I thought Democrats were supposed to be for democracy — guess not.
Awesome letter. Not nasty, but absolutely to the point.
The Dems should be embarassed by their behavior (yeah, right). I mean, the Republicans in D.C. stuck it out and debated Obamacare even though it was very likely they would lose on the issue.
Can anyone imagine what the Dems would have said if all the Republicans took off instead of staying to vote?
This is comedy gold, but give them a minute. One of the Fugitive 14 will go off and the media will declare the person "brave" and compare him to the Tunisian cart vendor that set himself on fire. lmao
I know!! They will be disgusted and OFFENDED by his OFFENSIVE and HATEFUL rhetoric and then blame the Gifford shooting on him.
Oh, and Governor Walker –
GIVE NO QUARTER. Do NOT back down!
Statists can smell fear and they only see compromise as a weakness (much like their friends the Islamists).
Standing Ovation!! Attention all Republicans! This is what "Cajones" looks like!
I'm thinking the meeting on the border is off.
A bizzare request for sure. While vacationing in Illinois, these cowards must have returned to their roots as a bunch of long haired, maggot infested, dope smoking hippies.
Out of Tiger Blood but full up on FLEE FARTS for brains.
It's going to leave a mark.
The Republicans in Wisconsin have a grasp of reality, they have the upper hand and hold the upper ground, these Democrats did more to harm their party then they even realize, what is the name of that song, ummmmmmm………. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZfRaWAtBVg
They need to change their name to the Dramacrats.
PS: Just for you my own 'state of the union address' . . . NOT SO GOOD!
There is not an ounce of courage in Fitzgerald's body.
None of you have ever met him, but I have. The man will follow the governor blindly without even questioning what's best for the citizens.
Of course this will be voted down, but whatever, stay uninformed.
Crickets chirping!
Yep, I can just hear the babbling now. "The Wisconsin Republicans stepped up their rhetoric by berating the Democratic Senators. It is no wonder that the Democrats are not willing to come back to be subjected to this caustic environment."
That's weird I am using Firefox 3.6.12 on Win XP and see the embedded Docstoc just fine. I don't have any extras installed on top of Firefox like Sea Monkey or Adblock. Hope that helps.
Edit:
I just checked the Docstoc FAQ and they say that you need the latest version of Flash installed. I have version 10.1.85.3.
The Fleebaggers have already lost, now the smart thing to do would be to try and cut your loses. But Democrats and the smart thing are continually at odds with each other.
Stand tall Repubs! WE THE PEOPLE are behind you 100% for doing what voters elected you to do! The fleebaggers have become the laughing stock of the democrat party.
Right On, Right On ………
Hmmm, FF 3.6.14 here and it shows up fine.
? I'm using Firefox and it works fine.
I see from your name that you prefer to be deceitful, invisible and like to hide………now There's a definition of courage.
Maybe if they stay in Ill. long enough they'll have legal residency there and will lose their senator status that way?
Only if they actually use gas
sarc//?
Standing in the back of one of his rallies, ala Robert DeNiro in Taxi Driver, does not count as meeting him.
As Fitzgerald said, enjoy your vacation from reality.
I don't believe they ever left their roots.
Change the radical pose for the radical ENDS maybe.
I'll look into this
F'n Nice tune.
"The machinery of corruption was well in
order. The great nobles commanded the Totes of their
clientele, and they succeeded in giving Caesar the same
companion who had accompanied him through the aedile-
ship and the praetorship, Marcus Bibulus, a dull, obstinate
fool, who could be relied on, if for nothing else, yet for
dogged resistance to every step which the Senate disap-
proved. For the moment they appeared to have thought
that with Bibulus's help they might defy Caesar and reduce
his office to a nullity….
If Caesar went to the assembly, Bibulus, their second con-
sul, might stop the proceedings. If this seemed too ex-
treme a step, custom provided other impediments to which
recourse might be had. Bibulus might survey the heavens,
watch the birds, or the clouds, or the direction of the
wind, and declare the aspects unfavorable; or he might
proclaim day after day to be holy, and on holy days no
legislation was permitted. Should these religious cob-
webs be brushed away, the Senate had provided a further
resource in three of the tribunes whom they had bribed.
Thus they held themselves secure, and dared Caesar to do
his worst…
A few senators, who retained
their senses, saw the uselessness of the opposition, and re-
tired. Bibulus was of duller and tougher metal. As the
vote was about to be taken, he and his tribunes rushed to
the rostra. The tribunes pronounced their veto. Bib-
ulus said that he had consulted the sky; the gods forbade
further action being taken that day, and he declared the
assembly dissolved. Nay, as if a man like Caesar could be
stopped by a shadow, he proposed to sanctify the whole
remainder of the year, that no further business might be
transacted in it….
But the people, who would not be thwarted, stormed the rostra and
poured over Bibulus' head and person a basket of filth.
Bibulus was thrown down; Cato held his ground,
and stormed at Caesar till he was led off by the watch,
raving and gesticulating. The law was then passed, and
a resolution besides that every senator should take an
oath to obey it.
So in ignominy the Senate's resistance collapsed: the
Caesar whom they had thought to put off with their
"woods and forests" had proved stronger than the whole
of them; and, prostrate at the first round of the battle,
they did not attempt another.
The oath was unpalatable, but the nobles "swearing they would ne'er consent, con-
sented." The unwelcome formula was swallowed by the
whole of them; and Bibulus, who had done his part and
had been beaten and kicked and trampled upon, and now
found his employers afraid to stand by him, went off
sulkily to his house, shut himself up there, and refused to
act as consul further during the remainder of the year.
There was no further active opposition.
Fitzgerald is BRILLIANT!!!! Stand firm my man!
Check point Charlie? (more like Check Point Cheesy)
Sheesh.
Wisconsin are you really okay with these politicians who refuse to work? I say shut down their offices as there is no apparent need for them anymore. Take away all of their operating funds and fire, yes fire, their staff.
Simply Ludicrous!
Did you notice too that the media gave a slight glance at this in the very beginning? I know it's been said "if these were Republicans" -and that never would have happened- give me one example and I'll give a proper apology- We would be given an update daily. "Day #75 of the Republican senate exodus." Do Do d-do do! d-d-d-do
Hiding in a hotel out of state and they want to…………
F'n get to work or find a new job.
On second thought Your Fired!
I could not of written a better letter myself.
Thanks, Mike. Here's the mumbo-jumbo the geeks'll want:
• FF 3.6.3
• Mac OS X (v.10.5.8)
• PPC-based Power Mac G4 with an accelerated (1 GB) processor, 896 MB RAM.
• Flash Player version (thanks for the reminder, Lib!) is 10.1.102.64, which AFAIK is as late as I can install.
There may be nothing you or they can do: Either the Mac thingy, or lack of an Intel processor, is usually behind hangups like these…
You know, if I didn't know better (because the national media keep telling me) I'd swear that Mr. Fitzgerald isn't worried at all about all of those polls showing that Governor Walker and the GOP are losing this argument in the court of public opinion. It's almost as if he thinks that the public unions in Wisconsin don't have the overwhelming support of taxpaying voters. But that can't be because the national media and Michael Moore said they're winning.
And I presume you believe the 14 mia fleebaggers are the courageous ones? Maybe in Opposite World.
So, so true! But alas I'm afraid we'll see Obama join a Tea Party willingly sooner than we will ever see the majority in California take their heads out of the sand and find a way to fix rather than FURTHER hurt our state. They're still saying Brown helped California previously and will again, and the Republicans are at fault for the budget/financial woes now. Oh yeah, and the CA school system is great. (We in the minority pray for the other states that can make changes to stay strong!)
Maybe even "DramaQueenCraps"
It's great to see some true leadership in this country for a change! Keep up the great work Senator and Governor, may all the other states follow your lead!!
Oh, and next time Dems… Remember that running away with your tail between your legs is an act of cowardice…
Taking a position of weakness rarely results in honor… dumb asses…
"Let's set aside how bizarre that is for a moment."
COMEDY GOLD!
I would have replaced "Sincerely," with "In Yo Face," but that's just me.
I wonder if the Democrats now realize how dumb their request was. They just left themselves wide open for this mega-slap-down.
Come on, IL is bad enough as is! Don't dump more garbage into IL; IL gets all of Milwaukee's sewage in the first place.
You must have misunderstood. By no means was I suggesting that Walker should budge. I was saying the Democrats should realize their defeat at this point and scamper back to the Capital as quickly as possible and hope that there is enough time between now and election day for the voters to forget about it. But I don't think anyone is going to forget about it.
If these senators were members of the armed forces and fled in the face of the enemy they would be tried for treason and could be put to death.Just think about it.
Allowing debate – code for "Only Democrats get to win!"
maybe they can get a band of University students together to march in front of their caravan on the way back to Wisconsin, they can bring the tambourines, flutes, bongo's,and dance out front of them all the way back?
LOL — I'm sure they can get that kind of support, just like they always do — just as long as they PAY them.
I take it you're from Illinoise? I grew up there. Daddy moved us when I was 17. Never looked back. It was pretty polluted out there then. I could imagine what it's like now.
Is there not a provision under which these 'demons' can be relieved of office? Surly, there is. It is astonishing to watch this unfold. If these little boys cannot play their way, the run away – from being an adult, knowing that adults must sometimes make hard decisions or do the hard thing; from responsibility, in cowardice? maybe they are afraid of the union thugs, of bho, which is the same thing as a union thug. Do these little boys not havet wives? children? did they also run in cowardice from those responsibilities? what kind of panty-waste, limp wristed, imbeciles are these guys? COWARDS, each and every one. Wonder if they realize they are showing their true selves, their lack of honor, their absolute corruption ? How small and insignificant they really are. Disgusting.!
Yes, can't you see a skit with Carol Burnett, Harvey Korman, Tim Conway, and Vicki Lawrence? Maybe SNL will do something funny, not.
Have these runaway Senators contemplated their futures? How do you get re-elected having this debacle on your resume?
Finally, someone who writes what I am thinking (without the *!#*). I hate when people 'sugar coat' their words.
you got that right!
they prob think their actions are resume enhancers
I look forward to the Repub ads showing these folks fleeing–oh, the comedy of it all!
Winning!
Priceless! History repeating itself. I'm totally down with pouring a basket of crap on their heads.
RedState called this letter an audition for the 2012 Wisconsin Senate. HaHaHaHa!
It's waaaaaaaay past time to start telling it like it is. Enough bowing down to the opposition. If Americans don't see what the Dems have done by running, there's absolutely no hope left for America.
Come on Dems, Man up ,don't hide behind the skirts of yo mama Rahma. Only girlie men run from a fight. You can bet the public will be demanding legislation to fix this type of cowardice. You may not like it but the voters spoke in November and it wouldn't surprise me if your now on the menu for the next election.
Further more , Wisconsinite's, how many of you really wanted the brain dead M Moore in your state spewing his communist drivel? Looks like he could use some hefty cuts in waist also. What a loser , I purposely will not ever watch anything he produces just for the fact I know it all came from a UN American Libtard..
According the the Rahm Emanuel 'Rules of Residency', all the Democrats in the Wisconsin Senate are now eligible to run for Mayor of Chicago.
I like the cut of Senator Fitzgeralds jib!! Well done sir and please turn the heat up even more. Hold the line! I have great admiration for you, Gov. Walker and the rest of your fine Republican collegues!
BOOM! WINNING!
I would hate to be the employees and owner of the hotel that these jokers (from both Wisconsin and Indiana) are hiding out in. They will undoubtably treat the employees bad and skip town leaving the hotel owner with an unpaid bill. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't pay the bill!
There are hotel and banquet places here in northwest Indiana that got stiffed by both the 'obama and clinton presidential campaigns in 2008. Its just like how Democrats treat all small business.
They are always running away, when they are in danger of loosing their ass -I mean face.
interesting question. recent events indicate that one can move away from IL for an extended period period while maintaining residency (i.e. Chi's new mayor), but i'm not sure what WI's rules are, or whether they enforce them, either.
I like that "either"- Laws do not apply to Democrats. Some how they have a living, breathing constitution that they can bend to their will- but if one of their political opponents is perceived to have verred from the most obscure law, it's all over the headlines the next day! Might as well step down immediately! I'm glad conservatives stay the course on the constitution. I pray they keep their strong reserve.
Well said at the end of this short piece Publius. Media is outright lying about the state of affairs in Wisconsin. I am left to wonder, well not really, how championed on television had this letter been written to a fleeing Republican by a Democrat Majority member. The award of courage would have led every broadcast.
One thing is for sure. The people of Wisconsin understand what has taken place. They see that those claiming to be champions of democracy are the very ones refusing it. Of this, there in no doubt.
I'd hate to be in Housekeeping or Maintenance can you imagine the damage.
or the smell coming from the bathroom.
These cowardly Dems have guaranteed that there will be no compromise, no negotiation, and no deals on ANYTHING else. The Republicans will ignore the Dems completely (like the Dems did @ the federal level for the past 2 years). Don't back down, folks.
