Union Official: We’re Effective Because We Have Power
by PubliusOne of the hurdles to improving our nation’s public education system is that it is generally designed for the benefit of adults in the system, i.e. unionized teachers and administrators, rather the children. Negotiations between school boards and teachers’ unions focus on pay, benefits and specific work rules, rather than deciding the best or most innovative ways to educate the next generation.
But, don’t take our word for it; listen to a union official admitting as much. In a new ad from the Economic Freedom Alliance, former Counsel to the National Education Association rallies a union audience describing the secret to the union’s success: Power
This is what’s at stake in Wisconsin and other states around the country.

Not for long.
Japan was Effective for a time because they had Power in the begining of World War II.
Germany was Effective for a time because they had Power in the begining of World War II.
Germany and Japan lost to the United States of America because Americans stood up and fought the Enemy.
Unions will lose this new War because Americans will stand up and fight the Unions.
It's all about power, not the children or a quality of education. Wake up folks. Truth from the teacher union gods. Now you know why your children are not receiving an education.
Time to turn off the power switch!
these arrogant fools just cannot keep their mouths shut and love to tell everyone how clever they are, thank God for the Internet where now they can be exposed for all to see in their naked greed and complete disregard for their fellow Americans,we must remain forever vigilant
The biggest hurdle to improving our education system is the unions.
The ugly truth.
“When school children start paying union dues, that’s when I’ll start representing the interests of school children.”
–American Federation of Teachers president Albert Shanker
Like the lizard creatures in V. The facade is coming off and the Progressives (Socialists) are showing us who they really are.
Outstanding. We should have never faced the war with the unions. They have done more to destroy America than Japan and Germany by dividing the people.
They can keep their unions. Give the parents vouchers. This will intoduce competion and these teachers will have to produce or become extinct.
Schools used to teach kids how to think now they just teach what to think.
This has to stop and vouchers are the best way to end the education monopoly.
"Give the parents vouchers"
Democrats will fight this to their very last breadth.
make paying dues optional- and allow the members to determine WHICH political party they would support…
Most would choose the Democrats, obviously. But mandatory dues paying is anti-freedom, and is what the left counts on to fund their various revolutionary ventures. If people really knew the extent of both the amount of money
AND it's disposition they would be extremely perturbed.
One wonders if even the members know. Most likely not…
Ayup, ya just cain't hide it forever. Nice to have those morons shout out loud what we already knew. For the blissfully ignorant – here it is in technicolor. Can you see it now?
The only thing that unions help "teach" our children is what "greed" means…..
Absolutely.
Teachers in Private schools get paid ALOT less than union-dues-paying public school teachers.
Private schools consistently produce better grades, lower dropout %, and a higher % of college-bound students.
All without Unions.
ALL jobs produce a product. Unionized Teachers are supposed to produce "educated students". When they consistently supply an inferior "product" , while costing more than a non-union Teacher, they should be called out for their inefficiency and ineptitude.
and they can lose that power too.
Ah, our glorious public education system and their Union goons. Yeah, we’ll give you even more of your f$cking blood money, you lecherous parasites, as soon as you can learn to spell eatmydingleberries.
We hold the Keys to POWER. You drones and pseudo-intellectuals.
And NOW we, the American Public, are going to CLIP that power!!!!
I've stood with teachers and administrators and advocated school construction, accepting that doing so meant paying for it. I've defended the profession and recognized that it takes a special person to handle a classroom. I still believe in those things but that support isn't just wavering, it's turned into direct opposition. Some might think that's a result of happenings in Wisconsin, but I'll dispel that notion via examples.
Where once school administration was focused on childrens' factual education, it's now focused on lining pockets and social engineering. What used to be an environment dominated by facts is now a preaching of politically correct politics. Math, Science, English and Civics have been supplanted by global warming turned climate change, sexual agendas and outright submission. Competition once spurred a drive to achieve but now it is discouraged and disparaged. Rights themselves were once championed in classrooms but now are shunned, ignored and even punished when exercised properly.
If children bless lunch or sporting events, they're reprimanded. If they associate freely, they're labeled as "not diverse" and directed with whom to associate and how to do so. If students dare defend themselves physically from actual aggression, they're punished as if they are the aggressors. Administrators cry about a bullying problem and demand more money and control to solve it, but their own ideological policies augment the problem.
Cameras on buses are used to charge, try, convict and punish wrongdoings, but neither the children nor parents are "allowed" to view recordings.
High schoolers drive their parents' vehicles to school and administrators claim authority to search it without notice, permission or warrant.
Children are taken behind closed doors and questioned, badgered even, alone without being informed that they have a right to remain silent or to have their parents present.
Some champion a gun-free zone status, which is another debate all its own, but in reality what is shown is a rights-free zone. At every turn, administrations are indoctrinating children to believe they have no choice but to submit, that they have no rights whatsoever. It is no wonder we have an adult population without an understanding of what inalienable rights are. I am left to wonder, at this point, if teachers even know what they are.
Think I'm kidding? Look to PBIS. School administrators tried requiring children, who are walking down the halls, to keep their hands behind their backs. This is something a prison warden does, not a school principle. We are even witnessing a creep of International Baccalaureate curriculum into the mix. The European socialist mindset, often hostile to American Values and Principles, is what should be taught in our schools? Hardly.
School handbooks contain boldface capital letters commanding us when to make doctor's appointments. They go so far as to direct parents when to take their vacations. When was the last time you commanded your doctor's office, much less your employer, as to this scheduling? It doesn't stop there. Some schools have declared that it is the school's place and purpose to "influence the beliefs" of students. No! A school's task is to teach facts. "Influencing beliefs" is what happens within a family's home, not within a classroom. A note from this parent to overbearing school teachers and administrators; You do not own my children or their minds, so knock it off!
As evidence of how far astray they have gone, I point to what has taken place regarding ISAT testing. I've been subjected to robo-phone calls, emails and papers sent home directing me to ensure that my kids eat breakfast, that they go to bed early to be well rested and to make sure I "support my students and be proud of their efforts". As if I am not doing all these things already!
Kids have been told that this test isn't for a grade, but that it is super-duper important that they do well. This sentiment has been drilled into their heads for weeks. The fact of the matter is that it is indeed for something of a grade, just not for the students taking the tests. Do we see teachers telling students that this is a test provides a something of grade for teachers? Where is the honesty?
If only teachers and administrators put half this much effort into regular spelling, math and history tests as they do the ISAT, if only they respected boundaries instead of playing politics in the classrooms, they wouldn't have to worry about the ISAT results. Positive results would come to pass on their own.
I submit that teachers and administrators have their priorities out of line. . That they're willing to send out such elitism and condescension speaks volumes about how they're grading their own performances. I offer that teachers, administrators and even school boards must engage in some self-reflection and examination and that they must answer this question after they do so. What sits atop the priority list folks, your own paychecks, pensions and politics or the childrens' factual education?
Unions like the NEA and the AFT are certainly a big problem. I am not sure that they are the biggest problem, however. Public sector union presence in education necessarily depends on education being a publicly funded and managed endeavor.
I would like to see public education be privatized in its entirety. If that were done, the union thing would work itself out on its own: newly fired public employees would suddenly have to deal with the exacting hiring criteria that their private sector counterparts already enjoy.
Right On!
Another damning case made, "in their own words". No editing required.
The irony, of course, is that the kids' families ARE paying the teachers' salaries and benefits (from which those dues are derived). This is to say nothing of the debt burden every child will bear as an adult if government insists on appeasing the demands of greedy union members.
Effective and destructive to all but a chosen few. Public unions hold the citizenry hostage and who do we have to negotiate with!?!
We will do it again.
It's about power to the thug union leaders who will never pass that power to their union members if they can help it. Look at the millions of dollars they are not sharing with the members. They are wasting the millions only on themselves and the duping of the members.
The statement is damning. How can I find a audio, video, or transcript. Thanks, Steve, aka papagrump
Oh no you don't. The American people will always have the last word!
Public education priorities:
1.) political agenda
2.) paycheck / pension
3.) childrens' indoctrination
4.) childrens' FACTUAL education (optional)

Pretty sad ain't it, Ralph?
The soul of every school is its faculty. Good Teachers are rare; inspiring teachers are a gift. The best are adept communicators, innovative thinkers, and lifelong learners. They are not necessarily credentialed. -Alan Eisenstock (Kindergarten Wars CR 2006 by Duck Island Productions, Inc.)
The teaching profession is sinking into obscurity because of the loud mouth union ones. Real teachers are gifted individuals by God himself. The oppurtunist unionists are foreflushing fakes with clerk mentalities. They just said; "we don't work for the public to educate its children, we work for the unions!"
God help us.
When unions start supporting 'close-the-border' candidates, that's when I will consider them. Until then they can go to Hell.
Ya know PHUCK the Friggin's UNIONS. "We the People" have more power than they could ever hope for.
WHY? WE can organize in a hearbeat. WE do not require paid for "rent a mobs".
WE KNOW how to volunteer our Time and WE know how to be Effective.
WE KNOW the Meaning of Truth and have more HONOR, PRINCIPLES, VALUES and a Work Ethic like no other. WE are the PEOPLE of this REPUBLIC – The UNITED STATES of AMERICA.
Take that and Sit and SPIN on it you Friggin' Greedy, immoral, dishonest EVIL Scumbags.

Oh hurl!
Something for the teachers out there to think about.
Our society has changed from the days when men brought home the bacon and women who wanted to serve their communities in a positive way, while earning a little extra money, would go into teaching. The dynamics have changed and the children have been lost in the shuffle.
Teachers that I know and talk to all tell me that they want to make a real difference in children's lives. Just imagine then if you will that all of the money that teachers spent on union dues last year, instead went directly to improve our schools and education system. To make a difference in the lives of our kids. Imagine hundreds of millions of dollars being used for something besides buying politicians and corrupting the system. Imagine a culture where caring people choose to devote themselves to teaching children as a way of serving their communities rather than serving themselves at taxpayers expense. Imagine what could be accomplished.
Estimated damage to the Capital building in Wisconsin has been estimated over $7 million so wouldn't it make sense to make the Union pay damages??? The T Party always leaves everything picked and cleaned up!!! hmmmmmmmm
We don't display disparaging signs and We clean up after ourselves also…We don't cause over $7 Million damages to State Capital buildings!!!!
I would much rather be friends with someone who loves money, than someone who loves POWER. Conservatives want individuals to prosper in wealth, liberals want POWER for the few – scary…
They are intoxicated with their delusions of power. It is essential for the future of this nation to curb this grab for power, before it is too entrenched. The people who pay the taxes supporting this culture of parasites are the ones with true power. But if wait too long to reverse this trend, you will have more working for the government, who will always vote as a block to preserve their goodies. These people claim to be taxpayers because they may return a few dollars back to the system in taxes, but the net result is they are supported by those people who work in the private sector actually creating wealth. The private sector is still the bigger force on the balance, but for how long?
In other words Money is power to these idiots.
They put their confidence in money.
They throw money at problems and think that will solve their problems…hasn't worked though has it?
They build their economic castle, they worship it like a GOD and when it is threatened they lose all civility because they have no faith in God.
We the People put our confidence in the God of Truth.
We have common sense on our side
We don't throw money at a problem we apply logic, common sense and prayer and that works every time its tried.
Eventually they will run out of other peoples money. I'd say that day is about here.
Defund the unions and they will no longer exist.
Have each state make itself a RIGHT TO WORK state, where an employee has the RIGHT to choose to join a union or not. This choice alone can put unions on the ropes.
Unions are created to protect the worker against the corrupt practices and greed of industry. That protection is still needed. But workers, today need to be protected against the corrupt practices and greed of union leaders, who like this thug brags about the NEA's power. Where is the idea of doing the work of EDUCATING THE NEXT GENERATION?
