Wastebook 2010: The Full Report
by PubliusIn case you’re filled with too much holiday cheer this Christmas season, the latest edition of Sen. Tom Coburn’s “Wastebook”, chronicling wasteful federal spending, is now available. You might just want to put an extra shot in the egg nog and take a look. The dollar amounts aren’t always shocking, but the blatant waste of taxpayers’ money is. The full report is below.

Kind of disappointed in the dems. Figured they would find new, innovative ways to waste money. And that they would do it with more openness and transparency. Oh well.
Remember, spending isn't the problem, so say the dems.
Not to worry though. This degree of waste, fraud and mismanagement won't happen with health care because it is of much smaller scope, and much less complex than anything else the gov't does. Besides, it's not like lives are at stake.
(For those who can't tell, this is dripping with sarcasm)
The Federal Government is wasteful in everything the Federal Government does.
The time has come to cut the Federal Government in half, to start with, and then cut down from there….. and put Members of Congress on Part Time with the same Pay as a Military Officer, paid around the Rank of Major. Base Housing can be used for Members of Congress and their Family, Members of Congress and their Family can eat as the mess hall.
All Congressional Staff should be Military Service Members.
I hate to complain but this news is like 'water is wet'.
Does it really need so many threads?
Flame away.
Pigford outsizes all of these combined and is the most flgrant misuse of taxpayer money of the year!
Harry,
you keep that attitude up and your two friends will be here from last week to set upon you with fire and brimstone!
…… not sure if I can take any more of this….. Maybe it's time to just be a progressive and ignore the truth. This is insanity.
The new congress will have their work cut out. I can already hear the porkers squealing in Washington.
Nevertheless, the looting of the treasury must be stopped.
Good frickin' grief.
Ed: "You might just want to put an extra shot in the egg nog and take a look." Publius, after looking at that, I threw out the egg nog. For the rest of the season it's straight bourbon whiskey !!!
It's going to take some drastic action. Democrats have already spent enough that the federal debt will grow from $14T today to $18T by 2014.
I..think..my..head..is…going to…explode……………..
True enough.
Would've been great if Coburn included Pigford in this "pork" report.
If you look at the unfunded liabilities and what has been stolen from social security the number is way bigger than $14T
Yes, this reduction of OASDI revenue from 15.3% to 13.3% is not a good idea. It's more vote-buying.
Speaking of which haven't seen that one around lately. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
So of course there is government waste.
Did anyone see this:
John Bolton eyes 2012 presidential run
Bolton/Palin 2012? I like it.
BOOM!
How these crooks cannot be put in jail is beyond me.
That's using Government math. The math that G makes us use sees the debt at closer to 130 T.
I couldn't stomach reviewing the entire list, but I sure hope they included plenty of dough for monuments to Ted Kennedy, Murtha and Byrd. Their careers justify an East Coast Mt. Rushmore.
1.9 million just to play video games? Ok, the dark side may have a new minion, that one was my Castle Anthrax. I should go back and FACE the peril.
And I was feeling sick when I thought it was around $60T. Please tell me you made a mistake.
#34. Teaching South African Men How to Wash Their Genitalia – (Los Angeles, CA) $823,200
Can we ship Pelosi, Reid and Barney "Double-F" Frank out there to oversee this project personally? If so, the price is a bargain.
I see there is another $6 Billion for Ethanol in there. That money pit is bottomless, apparently. Corn Power!!!
I just read the entire report. This is insanity. We really need to stop paying taxes till someone in WA can act like a grown up.
+1, Harry. Let's hope this doesn't turn into another "Three Days of Pigford."
Nov 2 should have been a learning lesson but it wasnt. If it was the threat of that now defeated spending bill would have never been on the table. These people have forgotten that they are public servants not public serves gov't.
The nation is screaming to stop the out of control spending and look at this mess! Im not going to cite any as many of you have done what in the blue hell is wrong with these people that do this? I would like someone to explain to me this mentality they have that this is all okay to do to the people of this nation when we are BANKRUPT!!!
You know whats also missing from this is WHO was behind each one of these someone had to request it. Now we could easily assume its the rep/sen from that area but they could easily come back and say I didnt. I have been saying this for a while now WHO IS WRITING THE STUFF? WHO ARE THE PEOPLE ACTUALLY BEHIND THIS?
Stop playing the game. Stop the animals in their tracks, expose them for what they are liars, cheats, self serving creatures with a 'do as I say not as I do' attitude. Take back America though http://www.savingtherepublic.com
What happened to the 100 dollar hammers and the 600 dollar toilet seats?
Hey…Senator Tom Coburn! Did he and his state give back all that Stimulus money they took or is that not part of his little "Childrens Book"? LOL
It can still be stopped.
The theft of social security started in the 60s with the Johnson administration. When he congress move SS funds from the lock box, into the general fund. It hasn't stopped since.
In reality, those were caused by government accounting requirements from agencies like DCAS and DCAA. I used to work for a defense contractor. We wanted to charge the government reasonable prices, but they had all these strange requirements about billing. We had to include an allocation towards overhead for every item sold and we had to bill them as if they were only going to buy one of them – even if we knew that they'd be buying many of the same item over the next year.
Ethanol subsidies are one of the biggest boondoggles of the last 10++ years.
I'd like to see Bolton as Sec. of State and Sarah to chair the RNC. Can you imagine Rove's reaction to the last bit?
Bolton/Palin ticket has a lot to be argued for, and its the best choice I've heard so far.
I really don't care what Rove thinks frankly, nor do I care much who chairs the RNC, they can both take a hike.
Barney might do it pro bono.
Good point. Hell, he might pay us to let him do it. Now that's what I call "privatization."
Studying Male Prostitutes in Vietnam – (San Juan, Puerto Rico)$442,340
Teaching South African Men How to Wash Their Genitalia -(Los Angeles, CA) $823,200
Maybe the studied male prostitutes could…er…lend a hand?
Deficit spending isn't the problem…it's the cure! To escape the liquidity trap and return to full employment, we need Shrek-themed vidalia onion promotion. Seem absurd? Why no, how could it be with the genius Nobel laureate Paul Krugman's keen intellect at work.</scarcasm>
"I would like someone to explain to me this mentality they have that this is all okay to do to the people of this nation when we are BANKRUPT!!! "
This special interest mentality of pols has been with us for a long, long time. When the economic pie is big enough, you can chip away to give to your own pet groups and projects and the broader taxpayers will not notice–particularly when the Press ignores it. The problem with progressivism is that eventually you run out of other peoples money. That's where we are today. It's was morally wrong before we were in danger of bankrupcy. It's only the threat of bankrupcy that have awoken the folks, who have awoken the pols.
Nope-here's the link http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/231833/real-...

It is wrong to spend money on a neon casino sign museum in Las Vegas, but it is fine to spend it on a Route 66 museum? How did the Route 66 museum not make this list? Oh yeah, it is in Oklahoma. The first thing that pops into your head when you think route 66 is Oklahoma.
Another repub-o-crit.
I wouldn't understand US history if I couldn't see things like this: http://www.route66.org/images/Museum%20Photos/pag...
