Please Don’t Profile: Muslim Foreign-born Teen Tries to Blow-up Christmas Tree Lighting
by PubliusFederal agents in a sting operation arrested a Somali-born teenager just as he tried blowing up a van he believed was loaded with explosives at a crowded Christmas tree lighting ceremony in Portland, authorities said.
The bomb was an elaborate fake supplied by the agents and the public was never in danger, authorities said.
Mohamed Osman Mohamud, 19, was arrested at 5:40 p.m. Friday just after he dialed a cell phone that he thought would set off the blast but instead brought federal agents and police swooping down on him.
Yelling “Allahu Akbar!”—Arabic for “God is great!”—Mohamud tried to kick agents and police after he was taken into custody, according to prosecutors.
“The threat was very real,” said Arthur Balizan, special agent in charge of the FBI in Oregon. “Our investigation shows that Mohamud was absolutely committed to carrying out an attack on a very grand scale.”
White House spokesman Nick Shapiro said Saturday that President Barack Obama was aware of the FBI operation before Friday’s arrest. Shapiro said Obama was assured that the FBI was in full control of the operation and that the public was not in danger.
“The events of the past 24 hours underscore the necessity of remaining vigilant against terrorism here and abroad,” Shapiro said. “The president thanks the FBI, the Department of Justice and the rest of our law enforcement, intelligence and Homeland Security professionals who have once again served with extraordinary skill and resolve and with the commitment that their enormous responsibilities demand.”
A law enforcement official, who was not authorized to discuss the investigation publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity, told The Associated Press that federal agents began investigating the suspect after receiving a tip from someone who was concerned about the teenager. The official declined to provide more detail about the relationship between Mohamud and that source.
The FBI affidavit that outlined the investigation alleges that Mohamud planned the attack for months, at one point mailing bomb components to FBI operatives, whom he believed were assembling the device.

Criminal profiling should be used in the process of hunting terrorists.
Criminal profilers pare down the haystack, so it's easier to find the needle.
They do this byprofiling for age groups, likely gender, place of origin, and, at times, ethnic groupings.
This an effective, time tested method of tracking down criminals.
and if we're supposed to treat terrorists as criminals, these are the methods that we should be using.
I suspect that the FBI used some of these methods in setting traps like this one to snare wannabe jihadists…..
I have attended this ceremony in Portland many times in years past. Interesting that they would chose such a Liberal crowd, as this is what Portland has turned into, kind of like a mini-San Fran.

- Use behavior profiling: If they go to meetings where other radical muslims go, then it's a problem.
- Use document profiling: What are their travel patterns?
- Use questioning profiling: Ask them questions. If the answers don't ad up. Investigate further. Re-train local law enforcement.

The muslim religion of Islam has many facets. It intertwines religion and law. It includes Shara Law, Jihad (blowing up anyone who is not of their belief system) There is taqqiya, the belief that lying, cheating, and deceiving others are all justified in the name of their twisted religion.
Then there is stoning women who are buried up to their necks, chopping off people's hands if they steal, etc. Cells are told to stand by and wait for orders before committing Jihad. Now they go rogue because they are so filled with hate for Americans and other non muslims.
I would say that religious tolerance stops here for me. I do not tolerate this religion. That is why I am against Mosques. Islam is not a religion of fairness or of peace. Also many young black Americans, looking for an identify, get pulled into Islam. It's wrong for U.S. I'm sure there are muslims who do not practice the aforementioned, but who wants to play that guessing game?
Maybe we should re-think who we are allowing into America?
