Jon David Kahn’s ‘I Honor Back’
by PubliusTomorrow, the nation honors our Veterans. We at the Big sites are proud of our own Jon David Kahn for putting into words and music how so many of us feel about our Veterans and active duty military personnel. It is a day for all of us to be grateful…and to Honor Back.

I Honor Back – written by Jon David Kahn
You have seen the truth
And held your brother’s hand
You bled your way through dust and wind
In some strange and foreign land
Miles in the darkness
With courage by your side
You brought the battle to them
So we can sleep at night
You honored me
With your strength
With your faith
With your fearlessness and grace
And through it all you held the flag
You honored me
Now I honor back
How can I repay a priceless sacrifice?
‘Cause some something short of everything
Just wouldn’t seem polite
You honored me
With your strength
With your faith
With your fearlessness and grace
And through it all you held the flag
You honored me
Now I honor back
With a song
And hope that it might make you feel right
When you feel wrong
‘Cause you’re a hero
Even if sometimes it feels as if you’re gone
You honored me
With your strength
With your faith
With your fearlessness and grace
And through it all you held the flag
You honored me
Now I honor back
With all my heart
With all my love
And pray that it might be enough
So you will know I understand
You honored me
Now I honor back
You honored me
I honor back

To the father-in-law I never had the honor of meeting – Thank you for the ultimate sacrifice in the skies over Germany as you piloted your B-24 and held it steady so the crew could bail out after it had taken a fatal hit. Words fail me as I think of your last moments, thinking of your wife and two year old son – you never learned that your second son, my husband, had been born eleven days before that fateful day.
I humbly thank you and all your brave brothers and sisters who have served us so faithfully.

The liberals and Obama have no respect for the military or the citizens in America. Let someone attack us on our soil and let's just see who they call first and expect to protect them from the enemy.
God bless and protect each and every one of my brave brothers and sisters. They do not get the thanks and rewards they have earned and deserve.
Damn Obama and the rest of the nutso jerks.

Great song! God bless all of our fighting men and women, it’s truly remarkable the quality of Americas citizen soldiers.
I too got misty eyed.
Absolutely beautiful, Jon.
If you are traveling during Thanksgiving and/or Christmas do a random act of kindness to a military member. If I run into a couple of military members traveling, I walk up to them thank them for their service and offer to buy them breakfast, lunch, or dinner. You'll be surprised how good you'll feel and how thankful they will be as well….
Great song. A most fitting tribute to our military. Gotta admit it does water the eyes when one considers the millions who have given their all so we can remain free. God bless the living and the fallen on this special day of mourning and thanksgiving that we have had such patriots and continue to still do so. For without their sacrifice, we would not be free.
Most of the soldiers that join the armed force are people that love their country and feel that they are honoring their country by doing so. Now, it is up to the rest of us to do something for our country. To be vigilant, watch our elected officials. Our duty, as citizens of this great country, is to watch on the ground that our Constitution is being honored, by all members of congress and by all our government officials. They have all been put in leadership position to abide by the Constitution and to keep the citizens safe and free.
To all who have served:
I am forever humbled and grateful for your sacrifice for our country……..and for me.
To my dad on Veteran's Day……………I'll always love you and was proud of your flag draped coffin………..I miss you. Eagles must soar in heaven for our veterans. My dad……WWII. Died 9/27/2009
I thank all of the people who have taken the time to comment. It has been a journey but I am proud that the citizens of this country started to honor veterans again. While my return from Vietnam was not met with this kind of warmth and appreciation, I am deeply gratified that the young people sacrificing today are respected and honored. I thank you for them and vicariously embrace the sincerity you all show.
And to you…
I got to take a there-and-back out of Norfolk on the Kennedy as a kid…and fell in love with those snaggle-nosed beasts…
God Bless the USMC on their 235th birthday…!!!
Semper Fi…!!!
I only hope that I could earn their honor as they have earned mine.
Forever thankful………………….
My Dad shipped over in November, 1944. He spent a cold, cold winter in combat.
God bless you and thank you for what you did. I cannot imagine………
But we will now honor them by dedicating ourselves to ensuring that we correct that mistake!
I sent this to my son in Afghanistan, now on his 4th tour, combat Infantry.
Hi Jon,
Is there any chance of you doing an article of my film FORGOTTEN HEROES the movie that Hollywood would not allowed out there into the marketplace. I honor the Vietnam Vets as heroes and that image they don't want out there under any reason.
We have met before at Barney's and we have talked about my film. You can go to my website http://www.forgottenheroesthemovie.com
we are donating 25% to the American Veterans Disabled for life Memorial Fund. Yesterday they broke ground at the Memorial. I have a hell of a story of trying to get this film out to the public.

My step-father is a Vietnam Vet 1967-68, Purple Heart. He is an amazing man who, like many of his peers, was not honored when he came home the way he should have been. This goes out to him and all of the great men and women who serve, and continue to serve, our great Nation. Thank you Jon, for such a beautiful tribute.
