Anchorage CBS Affiliate Caught on Voicemail Conspiring Against Alaska’s GOP Senate Candidate-Updated

Now the media has gone from trying to create stories to openly lying. The audio was pulled directly from the voicemail message. Nothing was altered. “Everything that was recorded on my phone is what we released without change,” said Randy Desoto.

The following voice mail message was inadvertently left on the cell phone of Joe Miller campaign spokesperson Randy DeSoto.
The voices are believed to be those of the news director for CBS Anchorage affiliate KTVA, along with assignment editor Nick McDermott, and other reporters, openly discussing creating, if not fabricating, two stories about Republican nominee for U.S. Senate, Joe Miller.
The following is a transcript of a call recorded after CBS Alaska affiliate KTVA called Joe Miller’s Senate campaign spokesperson. The call failed to disconnect properly. It was later authenticated by McDermott, who sent a text to Randy DeSoto stating, “Damn iPhone… I left you a long message. I thought I hung up. Sorry.”
Clearly the reporters were conspiring to set up some type of smear of Joe Miller. With glee, they even cite a recent controversy over an incident involving the Rand Paul campaign, while discussing how they would spread the story via social media after whatever incident they had in mind came off. It also brings to mind another recent episode that ended with Jerry Brown’s California gubernatorial campaign being caught up in controversy when someone from Brown’s camp called Brown’s opponent, Republican Meg Whitman, a “whore.”
This calls into serious question what type of campaign coverage CBS’ KTVA has been providing Alaskans all along, given their reporters’ willingness to conspire against Miller.

If what was planned is true, the owners/parent company of the affiliate should launch an investigation. While being biased reporting the news is one thing, it's crossing the line when the "journalists" decide to fabricate the news.
Fortunately for Joe Miller, their planning was caught and thus preventing another "Dan Rather" moment…

It's our worst suspicions confirmed. They even know that by pure chance someone will have something on their record that could be used against Joe Miller and that it shouldn't be because that's random chance. What do they do? They specifically look for it to smear him with and dream up other scenarios to hurt his campaign. This despicable crap happens in EVERY newsroom in America and has been the case since there was media. Slimy scumbags are just being exposed now.

There's a striking difference between this call, if the voices were those of "reporters," and the call from the Brown campaign: The Brown campaign voices were those of political operatives. Regardless of their language or their (respective) character or lack thereof, they are political operatives engaged in a political campaign.
Reporters are supposedly a different breed of cat – as biased as many of them are, the bias is generally at least somewhat at a subliminal level; they report what they perceive emotionally, because they lack the capacity for introspection and objective analysis. It's not a good trait for their profession, but it's a human failing, not usually deliberate deception. But this bunch sounds like a group of political operatives, posing as reporters, that specializes in dirty campaign tactics. Worse, they sound as though they've had plenty of practice.
CBS just can't seem to tear themselves away from fabricating the news. They gave us the fake documents discrediting Bush via Dan Rather now we have this. Can our expectations of them get any lower? I'm sure they will give it a good try. These people are so corrupt and arrogant, and so incompetent.
I was one of the sleeping giants that awoke after Santelli's rant, and have been pro-active since. But, this disturbs me greatly. Is it all really just a dog wagging the tail game? Is anyone in media not biased? I thought that we could have an impact on the 22% of Americans identified as liberals, but, now I question just how much power they have. Even scarier, if they are only 22% of how this country identifies, just how DO they have so much power?

How about 5000+ Joe Miller supporters surround the TV station and make a lot of noise during their 5pm, 530pm, 630pm, and 10pm broadcasts UNTIL THE OWNERS OF THAT STATION FIRE THOSE PEOPLE ALONG WITH THE GENERAL MANAGER.

You asked a question I have been pondering a very long time – how does this minority hold so much power? To Libertarian-minded folks it feels odd and sinister. It is. This 22% CRAVES power. It is their lifeblood. It motivates nearly everything they do. The 22% consists of a large number of devoted proletariat drones, and the much smaller "elite". The elite consist of academia, the MSM, progressive-Democrat politicians, labor leaders, and shadowy Soros types. They believe beyond a doubt that they are smarter than you, and are doing you a great favor by "organizing" every aspect of your life. Regulation Czar Cass Sunstein called the rest of us "Homer Simpson", and Homer needs to be controlled. The people have always been amongst us. They just have had the advantage of a wealthy, peaceful, advanced culture to take over here in post-war America. God help them should this situation escalate. I don't imagine us Homer's will view them kindly should things take a chaotic turn.

Not surprising at all. For the most part, it seems like pretty dumb banter and wishful thinking. I don't wish to defend those involved because regardless of their 'plan's' effectiveness it is indicative of bias and wish to do harm to a particular candidate. So many of the stories posted lately seem to be about half-baked schemes cooked up by reporters whose only idea of a real "story" is trying to catch a Republican candidate in a gotcha moment. Pretty lazy from all sides.

Several people from around the state have already contacted KTVA requesting that they reply to this. The people at Breitbart have done what our own local media refuse to do: report something constituents should know about. Seems to me they're going to have to report on it now–at some point anyway. There should be fallout on this. It blows my mind that you could have this sort of collusion with impunity.
I mean, we already knew the 4th estate was corrupt, but now we have proof they are corrupt and stupid.
This makes me realize something else: what happened tonight needs to be happening constantly–since so many local media outlets won't report news to its citizens, we need to take these stories from the blogs (the only place they're reported), get involved in discussions on our local news sites and post comments with links on them. Eventually, our local media will either have to begin reporting them or expose themselves as the frauds they are.
This is so important on the local level, because we can't do much to affect nationwide news (Fox, CNN, MSNBC, etc); but our local media is so much easier to hold accountable. In a small place like Anchorage, we have friends and family members that work for these media outlets. A story that can escape the nation's eye will spread like wildfire in the community it most affects. We also have the power to more-effectively to kick them where it hurts most–in the wallet.
I think if we're ever going to get America back to being America again, we're going to need sort of a "Media Tea Party" thing. Look at how much the Tea Party has effected massive political change in the last year. If we can start having this kind of impact on our local media, we'll get people informed over time, and it won't be so easy to be fooled by these sheep in wolves clothing (yes, I meant to type it that way, becuase they are cowards that try to intimidate us).
Also, this has all gotten so out of hand, that we need to put the D and R thing aside for a bit. We need to come together as a nation, and every single one of us, regardless of which parties and candidates we support, will benefit from accurate reporting. We ALL want the truth, we ALL want fair elections, we ALL want corruption exposed, regardless of which party it helps or hurts. Time to come together folks. This is something everything single literate person can do–start spreadin' the (local) news…

I think this shows malice aforethought if said reporters ever spread a false negative story about Joe Miller.
I find myself wondering if the answer to the malice aforethought requirement for slander or libel of public figures is to go around and (wherever legal) record reporters being candid in private conversations like this. In fact, a conservative who could lay low and play a good liberal for a few months at a newspaper or television station as an intern or office worker could probably compile quite a "Reporters Gone Wild" tape based on what I saw working in publishing and doing some work with news organizations in New York City. Pictures of offices and cubes and the signs hanging there could also be enlightening. Liberals just don't know how to keep their opinions to themselves when they think they are safely among other liberals. Normally, I wouldn't condone this sort of thing but I'm sick of the lies and smears and what I'm suggesting isn't worse than what these reporters were talking about doing.

Alaska was my home for 4 beautiful years and would still be if it were my choice and not the Military's. I am so saddened to see what is happening there at this critical time. When I heard that Murkowski was ignoring the citizens of Alaska and dismissing their votes in the primary's I was outraged. She had been pegged as a Rino and she just proved that she has earned that title. Just as this administration has ignored and attempted to silence all of Americans that didn't agree with them, Murkowski did exactly the same thing… but she went a step further when she virtually sent the message that your votes didn't count, because the outcome was not her wishes. If anyone really thinks that now, if she wins the midterm elections, that she will all of the sudden start listening to those in Alaska, whether they agree with her or not, is just plain not going to happen. This should be a lesson well taken by those in Alaska that want someone in office that is going to listen to the wonderful people of Alaska.
She has proved that the wishes of Alaskans are not important to her, it is all about her. It would be a shame if she or anyone in her campaign was involved in this latest attempt to dupe Alaskans, but I wouldn't be too surprised because she has already proven that nothing matters excepting holding on to her job at the expense of all Alaskans.
When students about to graduate from J-School are asked: Why do you want to be a jourmalist?; the greatest single answer is to "make a difference". I am not sure how dispassionate reportage of the news fits with the overwhelming desire to make a difference, but I believe that there is a huge conflict built into the system.

ABC's Jonathan Karl reports: A high-level GOP source tells me that party leaders have essentially given up on Republican Senate candidate Joe Miller and are now banking on a victory by write-in candidate Lisa Murkowski as the best bet for Republicans to keep the Alaska Senate seat.
Murkowski defied party leaders by running a write-in campaign after she lost the Republican primary last month. But with Miller's campaign faltering, the source tells me that Republican leaders are now worried that Democrat Scott McAdams has a shot of winning and that Murkowski may be the only way to stop him.
It's a remarkable turnaround for Murkowski. She was punished by party leaders last month — unceremoniously stripped of her position as ranking member of the Energy and Natural Resources Committee and her role in Senate leadership — when she refused to bow out of the Senate race and endorse Miller. But she has consistently said she is still a Republican and will caucus with the Republican party if she wins.
The nightmare scenario for Republicans is that McAdams comes in second on Election Day, trailing "write-in candidate." Those write-in votes won't be counted unless there are more write-in votes than there are votes for any candidate on the ballot. Once the write-in votes are counted, however, some of them will inevitably be disqualified (illegible writing, wrong name, etc.). And a small number will be for candidates other than Murkowski. If enough are tossed out, second place McAdams would be the winner.
The National Republican Senatorial Committee has been forced to spend precious resources in Alaska. But take a look at the latest ad running in Alaska: It spends 25 seconds attacking Democrat McAdams and less than five seconds mentioning Joe Miller.
If the NRSC really wanted to help Miller, it would be attacking Murkowski. Indeed, an anti-McAdams ad may be the last thing Miller needs right now. At this point, what he really needs is for McAdams to siphon anti-Miller votes away from Murkowski.

We are victims of a very smart move by the left. They have cleverly attacked our ESPRIT DE CORPS (our morale) to keep us at bay while they destroy the US Constitution – they took control of the media. Could you imagine the outcome of WWII if Tokyo Rose was the main radio station broadcasting in America? Or if the Nazi propaganda machine was the only news source in England?
The Board of Directors of GE (NBC), Time-Warner (CNN), Disney (ABC), and CBS Corp. (formerly Viacom) are 100% behind the attack on the United States of America. These people should be tarred & feathered, tried, and hung for treason, espionage, and anti-American propaganda! A total of approximately 60 people are sabotaging the morale of close to 270,000,000 people.
It happened on Bill Clinton’s watch – when he changed the FCC Rules to allow the acquisition & merger of the then 80 independent news sources into just 4 controlled by a handful of Hollywood leftists.
Clinton also banned firearms from all military installations in the United States which is why that Muslim was able to kill so many US Soldiers before he could be stopped.

Sounds like they're joking to me, as one who's been in newsrooms a few times in my life. I'm sure the gossip around Big Government HQ is a lot more lurid than this, and you've put your plans into action several times.
And, of course, every day on Fox — er, Tea Party Central — is a complete campaign donation/conspiracy for the GOP.
I hope people are demanding the firing of these corrupt political activists, I mean journalists.
Here we are listening in to the place where this type is consolidating power. Journalism, Academia, Hollywood, Unions, Washington, D.C. are the places where this small percentage of the populace have predominance. Remember that the Congress was dominated by the Democrats from 1949 to 1994. Not every person in these fields is liberal, but the vast majority are. It is common to hear of teachers afraid to "come out" as conservative, because they know they will be shunned. The same is true in movie making, newsrooms, and certainly at any union office.
Hopefully the present counter movement will evolve to the point where it is unassailable, and is even further widespread. Santelli is right, but this movement will change and will not be exactly like the present day "tea party", but will continue its mission. In order to actually ACHIEVE the goals of the present-day tea party, a mass movement of unprecedented size needs to occur, and be sustained. It will need to sustain a conservative majority on Capitol Hill, for at least several decades. It will certainly help if the POTUS becomes a bona fide conservative, but that alone will not suffice. There are many things that must be dismantled, while maintaining safety and economic security in the nation. These things cannot be done via hasty, poorly conceived legislation like the kind we have seen over the last two years.
The teaching profession will need to confront it's own bias and change to emphasize primarily the high QUALITY of teaching, not just the quantity or the funding. There is cause for optimism since the younger generation is not so uniformly liberal as past generations. Perhaps one day it will be a source of pride at a school or university to call oneself "conservative".
If the MSM is to survive (and it may very well NOT survive), it will need to eliminate these sorts of creeps, and staff with ideologically neutral persons, willing to engage in true journalism.

The allegation that the MSM is "anti-American" is absurd. The MSM is pro-Capitalism, that means very much pro-American. Its all about ratings and money and selling advertising which means manufacturing controversy. Where've you been living? Why do you hate liberals anyway? They continued your messiah GWB's illegal and murderous war and bailed out the republicans friends in the TBTF banks. What's your problem? "Hurting the nation"? You and your closet brothers & sisters in the democratic party have for all intents and purposes, KILLED our nation.
