LA Times: Jerry Brown or Aide Caught on Tape Calling Meg Whitman a ‘Whore’
by PubliusUPDATE: At 6:22pm, the Los Angeles Times published an article titled “An associate of Jerry Brown calls Meg Whitman a “whore” over pension reform (AUDIO).’” At 10:58 PM, the Times published another article with the headline “Brown or Aide Is Heard Slurring Whitman.” When the Times first broke the story, they had only reported that a Brown “associate” had used the slur, but now they are acknowledging the possibility that it was Brown himself who called the California GOP’s gubernatorial nominee a “whore.” A third possibility still is that both Brown and an aide used the offensive language to describe Whitman.

In a private conversation that was inadvertently taped by a voicemail machine, an associate of Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jerry Brown can be heard referring to his Republican opponent Meg Whitman as a “whore” for cutting a deal protecting law enforcement pensions as the two candidates competed for police endorsements.
The comment came after Brown called the Los Angeles Police Protective League in early September to ask for its endorsement. He left a voicemail message for Scott Rate, a union official. Brown apparently believed he had hung up the phone, but the connection remained intact and the voice mail machine captured an ensuing conversation between Brown and his aides.
With evident frustration, Brown discussed the pressure he was under to refuse to reduce public safety pensions or lose law enforcement endorsements to Whitman. Months earlier, Whitman had agreed to exempt public safety officials from key parts of her pension reform plan.
“Do we want to put an ad out? … That I have been warned if I crack down on pensions, I will be – that they’ll go to Whitman, and that’s where they’ll go because they know Whitman will give ‘em, will cut them a deal, but I won’t,” Brown said.
At that point, what appears to be a second voice interjects: “What about saying she’s a whore?”

strange…suggests that Brown may be taking this election seriously…although many on this board are saying Brown is little more than a front, that Democrats are conceding to Meg Whitman before the election starts.

I followed the LA Times link, and had a laugh over the illogical contortions the lefty true believers, writing in the comment section, have to go through to justify their continued support for Moonbeam.

The Brown Campaign is sensing trouble… They're pulling out all the stops to discredit Whitman… For example, who's paying Gloria Allrod's tab for representing the housekeeper? I'm sure she's not going to do this case pro-bono. And why is the housekeeper coming forward now? Why not a year ago, after she was terminated when the truth was uncovered?
This sounds like yet another strategy session, and with recording being released it may have just backfired big time. Only time will tell for sure (and that is if the media even cares to report this incident the way they reported the housekeeper story).
It is October though, and I suspect there's a few surprises on the horizon from both parties… Although the longer it goes, the less impact it could have on early voting.

And considering that Mr. Brown himself was guilty of violating that same statute (repeatedly) when he recorded phone conversations without the consent of second parties (and from the State Attorney's office no less)…well, I just don't see him filing a complaint. Especially since he would expose himself to liability all over again and put his campaign in further peril.

What he actually says is two sentences:

Brown's angry because he knows he can't cut a separate deal with the police union — for Jerry and other Caifornia Dems, if one public employee union gets a benefit, they all do (it's the same situation that the gawdawful mayor of New York, John Lindsay, went though 44 years ago, when he caved to all the unions, so that police benefits=transit worker benefits=sanitation worker benefits, with the expected disastrous near-bankruptcy results a decade later).
The long-term question, though, leaving the 'whore' remark aside, is would Whitman be able to stick to her guns as governor, and not cave in to the public sector unions and equalize benefit plans. You can make a justification for the police because of the risk their job entails, but if she can't hold the line against the other unions, Whitman will run into the same problems as Arnold.
Can't the Democrats find some forward thinking, break-the-mold candidates rather than resorting to 60's retreads like Brown?

Yesterday Meg Whitman, the Republican candidate for governor in California and former eBay CEO, got caught up in the growing controversy over the statements made by White House green jobs czar Van Jones. A tape surfaced of Whitman praising the "marvelous job" Jones had been doing in his environmental work. Whitman made the statement in May, a year after she'd met Jones on a cruise through the Arctic — and long before Jones's radical Communist past and connections to the 9/11 Truth movement had been reported. THE WEEKLY STANDARD asked the Whitman campaign for comment and received the following statement from the Republican hopeful:
"My husband and I met him and many others on a cruise sponsored by National Geographic and The Aspen Institute. He talked about supporting job growth in California, but of course I did not do a background check of his past over dinner. As these reports have surfaced, it's clear that he holds views that I entirely reject; any suggestion otherwise is ridiculous." –Meg Whitman
Why are primaries any different from the real thing? You vote for the person you want to win. Voting based on practicality only encourages Rino-ism. When the votes are tallied, they see the conservative got x votes because "he's too conservative and voters don't want that." When the rino gets 1000x votes, the powers that be declare that people want representatives who govern from the middle. So that's what we see. If it were X and 2x instead, people would take note.
You don't do yourself or your country any favors by voting for the least evil that has a chance of winning. Vote for the best candidate period–chances or no. We're Americans, dammit. Underdog victories are our national heritage.
Underdog victories are certainly inspiring, but practicality is also part of the national heritage. Look at what they went through just to get the Declaration ratified.
Thing is, what's her name there is at what…2% or something? Now, in a a close race, that 2% could be the difference between Gov. Moonbeam–who could do a lot of damage–or Gov Whitman-Rino (who at least has the support of Hannity, FWIW), who's got some actual business experience and should at least be able to do less damage if not actually help.
But hey–don't let my opinion bug you (like you were anyway, LOL). Do what you want. But don't cry next year when Gov. Moonbeam's done some damn fool thing to further kill the state of CA.
