by PubliusEvery day, we see an expansion in the midterm battlefield as the number of vulnerable Democrats increases. This video goes a long way to explain this. Done for Ben Lange, in Iowa’s 1st District, this seat is on no one’s list for a possible take-over. But, this video captures the public zeitgeist.
Over the next few weeks, we expect Congressional seats vulnerable to take-over to increase. The wave building out there is much bigger than anyone expects.

It works.
I thought the beginning of the ad was very powerful and communicated effectively the threat the current leftist hegemony represents to the US. Problem is, it didn't give me any reason to vote for Ben Lange, only a reason to vote against the dim. Use of Ronaldus Maximus' voice, in lieu of the candidate's, and what looked like a second outtake from a home movie, of the candidate with a child, also does not instill confidence. Let the man speak for himself. If he is truly Reaganesque, let him prove it in his own words.
I hope the next ad finishes as strongly as this one started!

OMG, this sounds like a trailer for some new Sci-Fi flick!!!. I mean, it's a little melodramatic, don't you think? Can't conservatives make an argument and not stupe to the level of liberal "marketeers." If the unwashed masses have to be convinced of the threat posed by Obamanism and Progressivism using the gussied-up production values of Hollywood instead of factual and reasoned argument, then come on…this shit is lost.
It’s a good one, but maybe not ominous enough for the situation we’re in. Does anyone remember crazy Ross Perot and his graphs? He was a bit premature, but here we are.
Your point is well-made. However, a little drama is not necessarily a bad thing, to a point. As you point out, histrionics is something the enemy gleefully stoops to, but using a little flash to get the viewers initial attention is justifiable, IMO.
It's when you have loathsome playing on peoples' fear, and a complete lack of substance, like the pivotal anti-Goldwater ad with the little girl and the nuclear explosion, that you've crossed the line into cynical manipulation.
To riff of Goldwater, extremity in telling the truth, is no vice.
The most effective part was Reagan at the end. Conservatives need to bust this thing open with a few good commercials and videos of him. Every time I hear him I get goose bumps just like I did when I watched him live in the 80's. I enlisted in the Air Force in 1975 and suffered through the destruction that Jimmy Carter and those worthless pieces of crap called Democrats did to our military. Reagan restored us and he restored our pride in ourselves and in our country.
My Dad, a lifelong Democrat and founder of Local 53 of the UBEW became a Reagan Democrat. He stayed with the Republican party the rest of his life.
I agree with ARutusJoe. Just give us good, no nonsense ads and lay Reagan on thick as you can.

This will appeal to the masses and I mean the masses are not here blogging. They only listen to MSNBC and ABC, so I give it a thumbs up. The music is good and the message is powerful for this candidate. Thats my humble opinion.
Actually, I think this will play well in the district. The problem with givng people reasons to vote for Ben is this: Congressman Braley has been in Washington voting against Iowa and Iowans. When he comes back to the district, his language to his constituents doesn't match his votes. Braley was one of the AUTHORS of the health care takeover, but he never mentions it back here at home.
I've been a life long member of this district (it used to be the 3rd Congressional district) and have been represented by H.R. Gross, Chuck Grassley and Jim Nussle (remember the freshman rep. that appeared on the floor of the house with a bag on his head?). This is big UAW country…and anything Ben can do to take the mask off of Braley needs to be done.
Everytime I hear Regan speak, I know I'm hearing truth. That was an excellant touch. He was the ultimate conservative. We need more like he was. NOW!

Loved the Ronald Reagan ending. Really tied the present to the past. This should be a template for tea party candidates to follow. I would scale back the excocist type music though. The Democrats are scary enough without the creepy music.

Some of you are critical of the ad, emotions vs. facts, etc…..My thoughts:
1. Our fast moving world is being communicated by 30-60 second spots and 5 second sound bites….emotional ads attract the attention of the many….this is okay.
2. Now, I love what some of you said next. This ad should trigger RESEARCH! Who believes what?, what facts support them?, do I believe his/her background? i.e. critical research and critical thinking.! Great!
3. …..and the Critical thinking goes for ALL candidates and ALL issues…..start turning the tide on this emotional decision making mode of the left into the strong reasoning and passionate discourse of civic debate.

I'm a conservative Iowan, and thebigguy is right on the money. Even the majority of "Catholics" here vote with the union and ignore church teaching. BIG union stronghold. My little rural area, as well as many others in the Congressional District, is conservative. Des Moines is part of the equation,too. And it is full of elitists and lifer Dem politicians. We need to get the lamb's wool off the Washington wolf. Braley is no more an Iowan than Obama is American. Around here, he's referred to as Pelosi's lap dog.
Excellent ad, the line principles over party is the line that to me says it all.
That makes me want to vote 'for' the guy … in the end. The beginning gave me reason to not vote for the Dem and the last line gives me reason to vote for the 'new' guy…

Fantastic ad!! My only concern, does the average American Citizen understand the concepts presented in the commercial? I would like to see a focus group, and hear their comments. I am an average American Citizen (I am not trying to insult anyone), however, I (as well as most commenters here) happen to follow/be interested in politics, more than most. I am sure that other citizens know more about their interests, than I do. We need to do our part to educate our friends and contacts, outside of the ones that follow politics.
