Thursday Open Thread: Castro Edition
by PubliusEdging closer to his death-bed, Fidel Castro seems to be trying to atone for his sins. He is even saying that the “Cuban Model” doesn’t work. These near death-bed confessions may ease his mind, but they do nothing for the millions who suffered under his rule.

'The "Cuban Model" doesn't work.' Tell us something we don't know, Fidel!
By the way, have you got room on that island for a whole bunch of ticked-off Lefties?
Hm… I dont think any "model" of communism works.
Something doesn't add up here.
First he says the Ahmadenijad is an anti-Semite, and now Communism doesn't work in Cuba. Did he hit his head? What happened to the past 51 years of psychopathic, rabid support of these ideals, and the thousands of people that he murdered?
Maybe he is trying to clean the slate before he has to face his Maker.
"IT WAS on New Year's Day in 1959 that Fidel Castro's guerrillas toppled Fulgencio Batista, and a week later that Castro entered Havana and launched what has become the world's longest-lived dictatorship.
What will be said about Castro after his death?'

At the rate we are going, he will undoubtedly be praised as a hero to the New World Order……..
Well, even Fidel says Obama's economic model won't work. lol
If he is, then don't get in his way. Repentance is always a good thing, even in such a murderous man.
True.
Atone for his Sins…..This Bum won't Beat the Rap where he's Going.
Hey Fido, thanks for the tidbit of info on your communist system not working. Been what 60 years for you to get a clue?
Commies dont believe in religion. I doubt Fido has a soul to start with.
I'm sure we can shoe horn them in, nooooo prob, TR
Wonder what's put this bee in the Cuban's Captain Obvious' bonnet? A "no atheist in a foxhole" moment of new found redemption?
And I would have *loved* to have seen Obumble's reaction to this little bit of enlightenment <snort>
At the very least by the useless nations.
I think it ironic yet true, that when death stares you in the face, how quickly one finds religion.
Gee!! He must be a rocket scientist, it only took him fifty-one years to figure it out. Moron.
Hi pix…
"Wonder what's put this bee in the Cuban's Cap……..?"
Probably just a case of profound indigestion,,, pixie dust would be a sufficient cure.
"*loved* to have seen Obumbles reaction…",,,I would *loved* to have seen Michael Moore's reaction,
or all those members of the Congressional Black Caucus, who repeatedly visited Castro *on our
dime* only to return to the USA singing his praises…FRIKKIN REVOLTING !
Hope the entire CBC winds up being indicted, oh yeah,,, that's what I want for Christmas. Won't hap-
pen though. The HoR will get all that swept under the rug in the *lame duck* session after the Nov
BLOW-OUT.
.
along with a majority of Americans, even the Mexicans are laughing at us.
I'm trying to figure out why would he care for the sins he committed when commies don't believe in God anyway.
And satan ….will no doubt place him on his right hand side in hell, and save the left side for….well someone else.
So if his Maker is the Devil, he still have to face him? I thought he would go straight to Hell.
It's amazing what near death can do to people — even despots. Sorry much?
The Cuban model doesn't work, never did. Neither did the Soviet model, the Chinese model (ala Mao), the Chavez model, or even communism light, the European model, which is currently undergoing default despite the USA military subsidy.
Good bye, Fidel, the pleasures been all yours.
.
Hidden behind that dictator's eyes are countless lives wasted in misery, torture and dispair. He can glibbly remark that his "model" didn't work but behind that statement are millions of lives that could have been lived in dignity and relative prosperity, but for the mirage of material equality and "social justice".
IMO Cuba is a no win situation for us. We help…..Castro wins
We don't help…..we look like real jerks.
Not a good position for the USA to find ourselves.
But alas, we have bigger fish to fry.
Adios, el Heffe'…been a real scream knowin' ya. Don't expect flowers from me at the State Funeral.
Speaking of that, wonder who will represent the USA at the *affair*.
Oh well,,, unsolicited advice from a farm gal, don't count your chickens before they hatch. We've heard
this line about Castro before, and he's always BAAAACCKKK!
.
Fidel has a real flair for stating the obvious. So, it only took him 50 years to figure out that socialism doesn't work? Then again, I guess that puts him one up on Robert Byrd and Teddy Kennedy, who never figured it out.
AMEN Brother!
No form of Communism works. Even "Red" China is embracing capitalist ideals and making millionaires.
Dear Castro,
May your commie ass burn in hell forever.
'Nuff said.
Glover, Penn and Moore are probably hastily putting together an intervention!
Thing is…he is STILL not willing to give up his dictatorship! He knows it's NOT working, but he has no desire to change things….maybe he's getting senile…his statements about all of this make no sense!
Amen, CE….yur friend….Corn Lady…;-D
Corn Lady has her eye on ew…
.
Classic example of how tyrannical rule requires a compliant press. Now, with cell phones, smart phones, and the internet, even Fidel Obama is having a tough time getting the message across. Fortunately for us, he has no Che stick to back up the carrot which is his rhetoric. The truth cannot be hidden forever.
Fidel has seen what happened with AIG, GM, Chrysler, Fannie, Freddie…………."failed models" get taken care of these days. He's just looking for a slice of obama's bailout pie. Mmm Mmm Mmm.
I'm sure all the Castro brothers want to do is move to the Chinese model, where there is more economic freedom (and thus more prosperity) but where the government still has absolute political power.
There are a lot of countries nowadays which, inspired by China, seek capitalism without democracy. In the short term, half a loaf is better than none (life in China is no picnic, but its vastly better than life in North Korea) though I hope that in the long term, democracy emerges in China and its imitators.
Psychopathic … Does that need any more explanation?
Has anybody told Obama yet?
.
. . . and yet, he's still ahead of our institutes of higher learning. . . er. . . higher indoctirnation, AND he's still ahead of our Mainstream Narrative Media. He's ahead of our President, and our entire government.
Small comfort for the thousands who died trying to reach our shores. Smaller comfort still, for those who arrived here only to find out that they had merely delayed the monstrous doctrine of Marx from grabbing their throats.
Que se muera en dolor y agonia, ese miserable.
.
.
It would seem that most people have the same response, “gee Fidel, what was your first clue?” …dummy! I know this will disappoint many of our witless democrat pigs, oh well.
Another death-bed conversion. How many of those are allowed before the Big Man says "enough?" Chicken crap, all these Dick-Taters.
It's just that the rilly, rilly "smart set" hasn't been put in charge yet. Like the ones we have now.
Almost without exception from my observations.
I think this old Commie's finding religion now that he is on death's doorstep, I hope he rots in hell for what he did to Cuba.
Gee Thanks Corn Lady…
You know you and Mr. Corn oughta come visit after the harvest is in… VA is beautiful in the Fall…
You gotta know I've got my eye on ew 2! Heck I'm following you!
Hee Hee Hee!
I swear if Castro were to put on a checkered flannel shirt and denim overalls, he would look EXACTLY like "Uncle Jessie" on the original Dukes of Hazzard…….
Sorry, Fidel. Too late. Burn baby, burn.
sumbuddy is skrewin' wit' FIDDEL…they switched his meds….what fun!!!
HA HA HA….. ;-D I'm sure Va IS beautiful in the Fall… no doubt in my mind my friend…
Have a blessed day there in Va,,,, may you and yours prosper…
and GOD BLESS TEXAS ! ! !
.
AMEN!
God Bless Texas!
And Ma'am, when TX seceds I suspect I will have to walk away from my 3 homes (one on 2.1 acres, one on 5.77 acres, and a big house "in town") and move to TX where hopefully some Native TX person will point me to a job and etc. so I can start all over.
When TX leaves the Union I hope VA follows, but if not, I'm moving to TX no matter what it costs me.
So God Bless TX (and VA, and all the USA).
CE
Perhaps he and President Obama should sit down for a cup of coffee. There may be something he can teach the upstart rookie.
LOL…"Dick-Taters"….HA HA HA……….see you're in fine form this morning Mr Stowell.
.
Perhaps a long shot but, could he be having a spiritual rebirth? He is ailing and his mortality is more evident to him now. It could be as the dying cry to God after a life of rebuke and anti-deism. I think he knows the end is near and while it is cold for me to say, he is attempting a come to Jesus moment as the curtain is falling.
Spud pud.
Fidel has committed many atrocities to humanity. While unpredictable and old, it is possible he is attempting to make peace with himself and God before the end.
"When TX leaves the Union I hope VA follows, but if not, I'm moving to TX no matter what it costs me."
Oh believe me if they don't I will just move to Texas too. LOL
Good Morning P2O – He must have saw the light……….hallelujah………yeah right!
I think a big space ship came down and dropped off a bunch of new moron leaders.
Hey space ship guys, get you asses back here and pick these guys up.
Don't forget Obama, Reid, Pelosi, Boxer, Feinstein, Dodd, that fat union thug, Imom Ralph, Franken, Hillary…all of them.
Filth that they are.
Is that a picture of George Soros, or Fidel Castro?
Where are we Americans going to swim to if we don't boot out the left in November?
If only we could get Michael Moore, Obama, Pelosi, et al, to see what Castro now sees.
Obama is un-teachable. HE knows it all. That is what he tells us, by word and deed, every day.
Mr. Castro, please follow Mr. Dante to your own personal circle.
Enjoy.
Or, perhaps he just doesn't want a legacy of the evil bastard he is.
Someone should tell Michael Moore, Sean Penn, and Danny Glover the news
I hope you're right. Redemption is something I think we all want to see in people. God ultimately will judge him for what he has done…maybe he knows this now.
I have it on good authority that he said those things so he could get a free powerchair with one of those extender-thingees that let you grab a can off the top shelf.
If you're not a liberal in your twenties…
I find myself in the bizarre situation of actually looking forwards to seeing the Communists demonstrators who are regularly out in the centre of Manchester (England) with banners proclaiming how wonderful Socialist Cuba is.
Too bad they seem to have learned not to stop me and ask me to sign their petitions.
Oh……….
I'm getting a tingle………in my middle finger.
Better extend it so it'll work itself out.
Was that Michael Moore's head, I just heard, explode? Oh no, only Oliver Stone. No waste there, either.
At this point, the best Castro can hope for is that they turn the thermostat in hell down a couple of degrees for his room there.
If ya put all the lefties on that rock, wouldn't they tip it over?
Courtesy of Dante's Heating and Air Conditioning.
But, the thermostat has only one setting. Heat!
My parents thankfully escaped this scumbags's idea of a perfect world in the mid 60's. My dad still talks about everything that the people of Cuba lost when Castro took over with tears in his eyes. Burn in Hell Fidel!!
Cuba Libre!!
At the end of the day………………………….They're both the same plan.
Even after he's gone……………………….they'll still be making great cigars.
No loss.
I recommend building a "three seater" over Castro's grave. Fitting monument to his tenure as a brutal dictator. We could force Robert Redford, Oliver Stone, The Congressional Black Caucus and Sean Penn to shovel it out when it becomes full.
My goodness. What will calypso louie think.
A leeeeetle warning, Meester Kevin…diet coke on screen…me no likey…no, wait…screen no likey….me laughing too hard to care.
Omigawd- I *completely* forgot about Micheal Moore!! (which was a pleasant moment, to be sure)…but *his* reaction was probably Oscar worthy BAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
And I'm holding onto to (very) faint hope that we'll get something done to stop a lame duck bs…soooo…it might be a very Merry Christmas…hmm? (I know I know…the odds are slim to none, and slim said "f it I'm outta here")
I'll take "We Can Look Like Jerks for $200, Alex"… <snort>
And they can send Penn and Moore to "represent"….I'll even send five dollars, American, if Cuba will keep 'em.
Whoa….CE is in VA?? I did not know this. We can convoy iffn Texas leaves, we know NC is screwed <eye roll>
But both VA and NC are pretty in the fall….but freedom is far more beautiful
And Amen, and bless y'all both
I originally heard that from North Carolinian about 40 years ago. Ironic. 'Sorry about the soda.
When Nikita Kruschev was getting ready to go to a costume party, he was at a loss as to what to wear. So he cut a hole in a Russet and put it on his "little buddy." His wife, Nina, asked him later who he was going to portray. As he stood in front of her, in all his commie glory, he said, "I'm going as a dick-Tater, of course!"
If it was 40 yrs ago from an obnoxious North Carolinian…bet it was my father <snort> Sounds like him, at any rate LOL
And I was a tad bit smarter this time, I set my drink down before I opened the post
If Dick-Taters have youn'uns…are they then referred to as Tater Tots? <innocent look>
Howdy, I'm a little loopy, just drove for three hours and I'm sleeeeepy. How's your foot?
I'm afraid if the Repb Party is successful and we are able to sweep Congress there will
be hate and revenge on the Left's mind… guess there's no use in frettin about it though,
we'll cross that bri……..
.
OMG, I never thought about how damn dangerous and highly entertaining it could be
to get you two together LMAO Okay time for a wise crack contest,,,HA HA HA HA
I love the possibilities…we could charge admission, I'm your agent pix…I get 15%. ;-D
.
Like we've never seen before, would be my guess. Sweet. Let's get ready to rummmbbbllleeee!!! 'Had my fill.
ROTF If Dick-Taters have youn'uns…are they then referred to as Tater Tots? <innocent look>
You must.
I meant to run it by you–did you see that thing about N.C. cops wanting access to everyone's prescription drug records? Tarqiyya, being the paragon of virtue and wisdom, would prolly love that one, wouldn't he?
Attention freedom loving Conservatives: Don't take the bait. This guy WANTS something…….
Only $5 to get rid of them both forever? Clean under the cushions in the couch and at least up
that to $15 pixie.
.
No damn joke Kev, we've all had it up to our eyeballs :
"…wouldn't they tip it over"? We can only hope, nmd….and no life rafts allowed within 200 mi.
.
Yes ma'am.
1 hour south of DC near he city famous for the "sunken road" and the pitched battle in the cold with northern lights above.
Near where Stonewall was fatally shot.
Yes again, NC and VA are delightful in spring and fall (not that bad in winter) it is just the humidity that keeps the unsavory types out for the most part.
My foot's "colorful" LOL…but fine. Go grab a "combat nap"…I hate it when I'm exhausted, and my head does "touch and go's" and smacks the table…a snooze slayer, to be sure
The left is always hateful, what's new? LOL I'm thinking we're rather tired of the temper tantrums from them, so they can go pack sand.
15%? LOL…okaaaay….but I'm betting our "paychecks" are gonna equal the same amount <snort>
And a one liner fest? I'm not worthy- I've seen Kevin in action…his puns are razor sharp LOL
Oh, yeah- I saw it. And most down here are fit to be tied over it all. Our sheriff lives down the road from us, and I "mentioned" how we weren't too keen on this idea, a'tall. Then I looked over at his "re elect BJ Barnes" sign, and raised a brow. He said he could understand how some might find the Rx list a bit too invasive BAHAHHHAHA
Most of the doctors' here aren't fond of the idea…..the pharmacists, are, however…which confuses me, since they whined the loudest over the Sudafed restrictions that *they* are required to maintain. Why would they want to make MORE work? Odd. The police just want a list so they can "nudge" peeps that have access to meds that "can" end up on the streets…umm…not liking that idea. "Innocent until proven…"
The gov't has already made most doctors' extremely fearful of prescribing narcotics…bah. That's a rant for another day.
<sigh> My inner penny pincher gives frowny face to that, but….well….it *is* for a good cause….
We lived in Va Beach for a few years- so, ohh yeah I remember the humidity….oddly, I had no trouble getting used to it, as it was the same as back home in NC LOL
My favorite spot in VA is Williamsburg…Busch Gardens…to be exact…I'm a roller coaster fanatic LOL
The sheriff bared his ass, didn't he? BureauCretin-speak "some might find the Rx list a bit too invasive."
In all honesty, I like Barnes, always have (this man is HUGE!!! Its like Grizzly Adams on steroids LOL)…he's calm, methodical….but this….no. The vibe I got was he wasn't "on board" with the idea, but, well….its politics, so you never know.
Our sheriffs aren't feeling the love lately- even ol' Andy Griffith has been b!tch slapped for his support of Obumblescare <snort>
Oh yes you are worthy my pixie pygmy, he ain't got nuttin on you,,,,
however he is sometimes inclined to go into obscure territory that
my blond self is unable to follow, that's when I just choose to ignore
him, he he he….
Kev if you see this ;-p
.
Do you think Fidel jumped the bones of Barbara Walters when she came down to Cuba to interview him in 1977? I think they had a magical moment together. She was pretty active with senators and politicians during her career. She'll sob at his funeral. Or vice a versa.
They did not already have records of Sudafed sales, they do have records of specific prescription sales. All they have to do is slap a filter in there and copies of the relevant sale goes to a log they turn in. (Depending on the software, of course.) As for "why", I'd have to guess.
That is a NICE place!
My oldest really likes roller coasters too, so do I! The wife used to, but 3 babies has made her more motion sensitive…
The last time we were there was for our son's 16th birthday (we surprised him)…spent the weekend at BG over Halloween…now *that* was awesome! (and crowded…and COLD!!)
I despise standing in lines, for hours, in 95 degree plus weather…so, we usually go in spring, or fall.
Its past time to hit BG again….I'm thinking it would be a nice 21st birthday surprise to our boy ; )
LMAO!!!! I feel flattered…but still, he can run rings around me on those puns- he had me in near convulsions a few days ago. I was laughing so hard, I could barely breathe, much less construct a thought.
Either that or its that I'm blond too..? <blinkblink>
Besides, he came up with the word "gunmaticians"….and there is simply no snappy comeback to THAT awesomeness LOL
