Rasmussen: GOP Holds 12 Point Lead in Generic Ballot

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 48% of Likely Voters would vote for their district’s Republican congressional candidate, while 36% would opt for his or her Democratic opponent. The survey data was collected on the seven days ending Sunday, September 5, 2010.
This matches the largest advantage ever measured for the Republicans. Three weeks ago, the GOP also held a 12-point lead.
Still, while the margin has varied somewhat from week-to-week, Republicans have been consistently ahead in the Generic Ballot for over a year. During 2010, the GOP edge has never fallen below five points. When Barack Obama first took office as president of the United States, the Democrats enjoyed a seven-point lead on the Generic Ballot.
Results for this survey are compiled on a full-week basis and crosstabs for full-week results and generic ballot trends are available for Platinum Members only.
Scott Rasmussen, president of Rasmussen Reports, notes that “voters are ready to deliver the same message in 2010 that they delivered in 2006 and 2008 as they prepare to vote against the party in power for the third straight election. These results suggest a fundamental rejection of both political parties.”

A commentary by Larry Sabato now projects the Republicans will pick up 47 House seats, eight Senate seats, and eight governorships. These numbers reflect a significant deterioration for the Democrats.

- Write-in votes, Certified?

Careful, folks. This "lead" in the polls may just be so much eyewash. Make sure it isn't by voting on 2 Nov. Our very way of life is a stake.
I have little faith that the repubs will change and become fiscally responsible if they take a house and/or senate majority after november.
What is truly sad for small government conservatives in the US is that there is really no where else to turn. we vote for the lesser of two evils (rep over dems) not because the reps have championed conservative policies but that the dems are so socialist that we have to vote against the dems, but not really for repubs. I have voted for third party candidates in good conscience since Howard phillips ran back in '96 ( I believe) because the repub candidates have not shown themselves to be worthy of my vote. I don't beleive they will get the message until this happens more and more.
I can only hope that the tea party can continue to gain ground and support in order to hold repubs to a conservative doctrine, a doctrine that they have not shown themselves to be principled enough to do on their own.
Republicans winning the house and senate is not the answer. Conservative constitutionalists are. A humble servant to the "people" and not after power and money.

Why don't you get involved in your local county GOP? Have a look at becoming a precinct official. They are where the real power lies my friend – that's the truth. Take over the party from the ground up. It's not as hard as you think. It requires consistent effort, and doing what others will not, i.e. not sitting at home watching TV and playing computer games.

I laughed so hard when I heard about this "event" on Oct. 2nd! Yes, this will shed light on who the BO supporters are! Unlike Beck's event, this is a "manufactured" gathering with union's bussing in their crowds and this gathering IS POLITICAL! I can only hope that TAX $$$ are not used or maybe this is just what the so-called stimulus $$$ is being confiscated for. At least we know where the pro-socialists will be on Oct. 2nd!

Congressional Republicans haven't done too much other than attempt to stand in the way of obscene spending and an outrageous imposition of a trillion-dollar "health-care reform bill" that most people did not want passed. They did offer less-costly and probably more effective alternatives to the Democrat's reform measures, but the media and leftist blogospheres stubbornly kept repeating that the Republicans had no solutions.
Basically, the Republicans are doing a somewhat more effective campaign strategy than Barack Obama's 2008 winner, except that where Obama's campaign message was "I'm not George W Bush", the Republican candidates' message will typically only need to be "I'm not a Democrat". It's not satisfactory, but it is what it is.

Well for starters, the majority of them have not had evidence of corruption, tax evasion, money laundering, sex scandels, thievery and various felonies brought against them.

You forgot a very grievous threat, and that is candidates who take advantage of populist sentiments and run as Republicans because Democrats are so unpopular. There is a candidate in my district who never voted until 2006 (NEVER VOTED!), and then he supported RALPH NADER and was enrolled in the GREEN PARTY!!!! And he's running on the Republican and Conservative party lines! Why? Because he made large donations to certain groups.
This kind of candidate can only be exposed and avoided if voters are interested and attentive enough to VETT THEIR CANDIDATES WELL. There is no defense against uninformed and gullible voters.

The major difference is that most democrats will continue to vote for the person with the D after their name, no matter what the person believes in. Which toughest problems are those? Barely any unemployment? An economy that actually grows at a respectable rate? Reducing the best health care in the world to match the system that will run, ruin, it? Spending an amount almost comprehensible by the human mind on an annual basis?
Because I now see really high unemployment, an anemic economy that might as well be stuck in idle, a new health care overhaul that will grossly inflate my costs while reducing my level of care, and spending so profligate that it makes drunken sailors look like penny pinching misers.
The left just doesn't get it. We mostly want the government to say no to most everything so that they stay the hell out of the way and let us fix our own problems.
