No Help on the Horizon for Democrats
by PubliusPolitical prognosticator Charlie Cook’s latest column in National Journal:

Labor Day is almost here and Democrats are still waiting for the cavalry to arrive. An exhaustive scan of the horizon reveals no rescuers and none of the things Democrats badly need to save them from tough midterm election losses on Nov. 2.
There are few signs of any meaningful recovery, and indeed there is more talk of a double-dip recession, plunging the country back into economic trouble between now and the end of the year. Unemployment seems stuck at 9.5 percent, reinforcing the view that last year would have been better spent focusing on the economy than on health care reform.
Democrats also needed a public re-evaluation of the new health care reform law. They needed the public to decide that it wasn’t so bad, that it was a good idea after all. That hasn’t happened, as pointed out by the Kaiser Family Foundation’s health care monthly tracking poll released this week. Favorable attitudes toward the new law dropped from 50 percent last month to 43 percent this month, and unfavorable views climbed from 35 percent to 45 percent. Twenty-nine percent of Americans believe that they and their families will be better off under the new law, while 30 percent say they will be worse off and 36 percent say it will not make much difference.
An interpretation of what has happened that could be considered extremely charitable to Democrats is that while the nation’s economy deteriorated rapidly, President Obama and the Democratic Congress checked the box on the economy with an unpopular stimulus bill and then became obsessed with passing a health care reform package. At best, Americans are ambivalent about that package, and quite a few believe it is horrifically flawed. Unemployment has been above 9 percent for 15 consecutive months, and that number is significantly higher among African Americans, Hispanics and young people, the groups that boosted Democratic fortunes in 2008.
Simply put, Democrats find themselves heading into a midterm election that looks as grisly as any the party has faced in decades. It isn’t hard to find Democratic pollsters who privately concede that the numbers they are looking at now are worse than what they saw in 1994.
The race-by-race outlook confirms the dire forecasts. Cook Political Report House Editor David Wasserman points out that at this point, 32 Democratic incumbents are running even or behind their Republican challengers in one or more public or private polls. At this point in 2006, when Republicans lost control of Congress, only 11 GOP incumbents were running even or behind.

The Dem's ship is sinking. Some will be jumping off claiming they were never aboard in the first place.
Liberalism dug its own grave.
Well, they made their own bed now let them sleep with their garbage. I have no sympathy for what the socialist, progressive demonrats have done to the economy or the country. Let them join the unemployment line and see just how tough it is in the private sector.
However, do not be misled by current poll figures and that all is well. Get out the vote to insure the dims lose big. As Ann Coulter said, "Don't count you chickens before they hatch." Nothing is guaranteed.
"Labor Day is almost here and Democrats are still waiting for the cavalry to arrive."
The cavalry IS coming.
Unfortunately, it is named Hurricane Earl, and is fixing to hit the east coast where all the rich white folk have vacation homes. Y'all go get a keg of beer, and some brats. Make some popcorn for the family. This is going to be quite the show!
Don't fear though, Obama is going to open his Hurricane Deflector Umbrella…………………….
Ahhhhhhhhhh, yes, the rats are truly beginning to bail or so they say. I don't believe them. Their prattle now will be anything the voter wants to hear to ensure their reelection. Be very careful.
November 2, 2010, the democrats 'perfect storm'.
The rats have left. Only the sinking ship remains.
I agree with OldmanRick. Lets not pop any cork on the champagne bottles. These sleazy, corrupt people will NOT go without using every dirty trick in the book. My greatest fear is how much fecal matter the "dirty three" will try try to dump on this country before January. Then for the next 2 years all we're going to hear is "VETO" and "executive order".
It's going to be a tough two years folks. Plus all the illegals will be called undocumented democrats and will swarm to Obama's sanctuary camp.
Lots of work ahead.
That light at the end of the tunnel is the train coming.
Getting rid of the Democrat majorities in the Senate and in the House,……..
that's the easy part,..
they are on the surface and out in the open,………
it's getting rid of the extreme left liberals deeply entrenched in our institutions and,…..
throughout the federal government departments that will take some doing.
When Bush took over,…he allowed way to many Clinton people to remain.
Starting with 2010 let's start creating some DINOS.
And "progressivism" is covering the caskets with dirt.
I agree, that's going to be hard to do. Keeping the left out of our institutions….etc.
We have to clean up our media as well.
Maybe we can set some rat traps. ; )
Finally, time for "the great unwashed masses" are going to give the elitist politicos a bath.
"Simply put, Democrats find themselves heading into a midterm election that looks as grisly as any the party has faced in decades. "
I like it. I like it allot.
Absolutely, time to clear out all the Marxist bureaucrats out too.
"Then for the next 2 years all we're going to hear is "VETO" and "executive order".
Don't forget the other things we'll be hearing the next two years: "investigation" and "indictment."
It must really suck to be poor and bitter about it.
No big deal. Republicans HAVE to control the house if Obama is to stand a chance in 2012.
I would love to see the polls on how the American people view the Republican house once they win. It should be interesting
The problem for the Democrats is they have been trying to play at being the cavalry, but no one wants what they’ve offered. Now, they’re a cheap, ignoble imitation of the 7th Cavalry in Custer’s last charge and the natives are very restless.
The Wreck of the Prog Ship Obama
The legend lives on from the Potomac on down
Of the big ship they call US Congress
That place, it is said, will give up her dead
When the skis of November turn gloomy
With a load of BS, twenty-six thousand tons more
Than the Prog Ship Obama weighed empty
That lame ship and crew is a bone to be chewed
When the Gales of November come early
My sincerest apologies to Gordon Lightfoot; The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald
They will probably dispatch armed ACORN workers to polling places in November to scare old ladies away.
I like it ! Thanks.
Just look at the public's view of congress for the last four years under dems control, their numbers have cratered to the point many people view them as being out of touch with reality.
I pray God helps you overcome your ignorance.
Yea when the Republicans controlled congress they had great approval ratings right????
Democrats are blamed for everything that happens in the country. That's about to change and it should make things every interesting
Thats because they are !
Republicans will have to accept the blame for whatever happens in the country if they control the house. The era of playing offense for you guys is about to be over!
So true ..the will ahve to start lying more and more to pretend to be on "the peoples" side…
It just goes to show you Ms. Pelosi… No matter how bad times get more Americians want you out of our lives !!!!
Don't let the DEMocRATS fool you…………
Everyone says that DEMocRATS are distancing themselves from 0bama, Fannie and Freddie, the Stimulus, Cash for Clunkers, 0BAMACARE (I COULD GO ON AND ON)……….
It's all an act………..
as soon as the DEMocRATS get reelected………
DEMocRATS will be back in "LOCK STEP" with 0bama………
for CAP AND TAX……………
Just like DEMocRATS were LOCK STEPPED for the STIMULUS and 0BAMACARE………
MOLON LABE.
Why should the Regressive Party expect any better? They started acting like sore winners right after the inauguration. The people cried out, "no more bailouts" … and they delivered Porkulus and nationalized auto companies. The people asked them to focus on the economy… and they insisted on Card Check and the Cap and Trade socialist cramdown. The people pleaded with them to do something about jobs… and they called the people "stupid, selfish, un-American, racist, Nazi teabaggers" for daring to disagree with the "heath" "care" "reform" socialist cramdown. Result? They succeeded only in hardening their Republican/libertarian/conservative opposition, and their reactionary snarling scared off almost every last one of the independents and moderates who had been key to their 2006 and 2008 victories by Labor Day a year ago.
Democrat representative, meet the underside of the Ogabe Express to Oblivion. We've been telling you all along that, for the Oval Office Fascist, it's all about the Oval Office Fascist. Now it's your turn to get thrown under the bus. Them big tires really hurt when they run you over, don't they?
I pray God helps you overcome your arrogance.
"I would love to see the polls on how the American people view the Republican house once they win"
Nowhere to go but up.
The president says:
"I have to say: I did not watch the rally,"
In practically the same paragraph he says:
" I think that one of the wonderful things about this country is that at any given moment, any group of people can decide, 'We want our voices heard.' "
Obviously, the president thinks the need to have voices heard, by hundreds of thousands of citizens is 'so wonderful', he cant' be bothered to pay any attention to it.
Sounds about right for him and his party on everything, from health care town hall meetings, to huge rallies in D.C.
Good luck guys, getting re-elected.
They are catching the blame at this time because of the great decisions they are making with the govt spending. Let say Repubs were in control for the last four years and congress passed all the same bills, who would the public be upset with? Would you be upset with the govt because of the party that passed these bills or the bills themselves? I know this is hypothetical.
can you please explain why you feel this way,……..there 343
Republicans controlled the House from 1994 to 2006
Ohhhhhhhh to have an economy like that ay Libby,……….
hell even Clinton rode the wave,………Helllloooooo
May God show you the light.
So true, so so true.
Yup just like how it was before they got ousted in 2006. Republicans have proven over the years they can't govern. Your victory in 2010 is needed for Obama's re-election
uh… dude. I'm in Va… I don't expect severe weather though… MAYBE I'll put the doors back on my Jeep (Hydro-Carbon powered eco vehicle).
Have the Dems accepted any of the blame that is currently happening to the country, or they still blaming Bush again.
LJ, have the Dems taken any responsiblilty at all over the past 4 years?
Republicans AND Democrats are crap politicians. We need real conservatives who will stand up to the status quo and for the people.
No Bama will promise he wont let the hurricane west of the Rockies.
Hey the nitwit is right about the GOP's record in the past 10 years, give the troll his due….
What he is totally wrong about is what will happen in the next 10 years.
This will be a government of the people by the people and for the people… He has already lost and he does not have a clue, the smarter ones of that ilk are just whistiling past the graveyard……
hehehehehehe.
Damn,……we never looked at it this way there Libby,…….
you just might have something there,………
I'm voting Democrat,……..
thanks for the heads up there 343.
We owe you one.
May the Lord bless you in your ignorance.
correction
Democrats are blamed for everything that happens in the country. That's about to change and it should make things very interesting
It'll be interesting to see how they turn this hurricane to their advantage, won't it, CL? 'Wonder how much in life and materiality that will cost?
I wouldn't know.
Perhaps you could enlighten us.
That's because Progressive Democrats ARE to blame for every evil that has befallen this country going back to Woodrow Wilson.
Oh, I forgot to add….I think No Bama was borne in Kenya…
"Your victory in 2010 is needed for Obama's re-election"
Unless our Victory in 2010 leads to obama's impeachment. You know obama is guilty of high crimes and misdemeanors. All it will take now is a Darrel Issa to expose those crimes. It's just a matter of time.
Tick tock, tick tock……………
Whew!
Good deal. I'm safe.
I didn't expect to see many trolls muster the energy to soil this post.
Pray for the moron.
"It isn't important how people vote. What IS important is who counts the votes." — Joseph Stalin
I've been around Chicago politics long enough to know that the Democrats are more than capable of fixing an election no matter who really won. I caution everyone when they vote to be observant and don't be afraid to get involved if you see something suspicious going on. Take a camera with you, and take pictures if something doesn't seem right. Trust me, there will be shenanigans if the Democrats think they can get away with it.
Why yes, FG. Just the other day kathleen sebelius took blame for not "re-educating" the American People on the virtues of obamacare. They may just have need for those silly "FEMA-Camps" after all. Ha ha.
Not just Obama, but there is a long line of people in the current administraition that will face the same or similar charges to. Going from all the Czars to the Financial boards and green jobs as well.
Oh and the dems are doing such a great job governing right now. Let see the debt has continue to grow, we have national health care that does not kick in until 2013 but we get to start paying before coverage is available, oh we just declared the war in Iraq over and the money that was going to fund the war will be applied towards job creation and Afghanistan. One question about the war funding, were does the money come from to spend on the war? How can we even fund the war when we are basically bankrupt? I will give you that the lead chuckle head voted present when the congress voted on funding of the wars.
If the floods in Tennessee this summer could be used as a barometer, to measure this against, I'd sure hate to be the one to break the news to the folks on the eastern seaboard, but they are on their own………..
It is a long list.
That, good sir, is very likely to happen. We need poll watchers with video cameras to record such incidents. Remember 2008?
I think the only reason why LJ is here, is cuase he is hopped up on Red Bull.
Yes,sir. Correct answer, I suspect, unfortunately.
…Buh Bye !… as the House of Pelosi falls, all sorts of skeletons will come a-tumblin' out the woodwork…..
Its longer than I want to think about. I think even the Mafia has a shorter list of criminals under their wings.
Wouldn't it be interesting if the Obama administration became the direct cause of another Great Awakening in America?
Or is that happening already?
Your Republican party is not man enough to bring an impeachment charge against the first Black president. Heck the tea party is scared to death of being called racists you think the rethugs will go that far when they win? Keep dreaming. IF Michael steal was a white man he wouldn't have a job as head of the RNC because of the Republican party being scared of getting called a bunch of bigots they pretend he s doing a good job you are not kidding anyone.
A REPUBLICAN VICTORY IN 2010 IS NEEDED FOR OBAMA'S RE-ELECTION!!!!!!
I'm in SE Georgia….Fort Stewart.
What do you think?
I have been away from home and the TV all day, what are the chances it will score a direct hit on the US?
Yes the democrats are like he captain of the titanic who promotes the cabin boy to captain 10 seconds before the Titanic hits the ice burg then says "Happened on your watch… you're fault!!"
I pray God lets you live long enough to see No Bama impeached.
And the democantz weren't man enough to bring impeachment charges against Bush who supposedly committed two illegal wars and lied. In fact the democrats merrily signed and approved everything Bush asked for even though they claim it was all wrong.
Now that's some might fine leadershipping right there.
This administration has set democrats back for a generation if not longer. The silent conservative majority that they have been poking with a stick for a decade is no longer taking their antics lightly, and finally responding. We see the media for what it is, they exposed their dark under belly to impose upon us rather than listen to us, they mocked peaceful americans while defending illegal criminals, they courted our enemies and insulting our allies, they destroyed the economy while feasting on $100 an ounce steak, they bypassed the constitution numerous times while exempting themselves from their laws, and none of these problems are going away any time soon. The wound they inflicted on America is deep, and we will not recover any time soon, but there is no doubt as to whom inflcted the wound, and we won't forget. Their agenda driven "solutions" defy facts, logic, history and the will of the people, yet they persist head on. Oh no, this is perhaps the end of the democratic party for decades to come, and it will have to completly change its make up, its methods, and its message before anyone even thinks about trusting them again.
The basic problem with liberals is that all they have to offer is piss and hate. They can attack their opposition like no other with the most vile, contemptible methods available and back it up with wide spread voter fraud and corruption. However, none of those skills are good for leadership where one has to unify and build. They can't build or lead, they lack the basic skills and tools. All they can do is attack and destroy. Look at the liberal posters here. Nasty, bitter, hateful, and completely devoid of anything constructive. Just pure raw piss and hate.
Who can say if they will be man enough or not, but Obama does need to get impeached regaurdless. As for the race card, give it a damn rest LJ, its been overused, and holds no water. There is nothing racist about the TEA party, and the left has yet to prove their is any racism at all in there.
Gotta say, LJ, you are the biggest bigot here.
As for the Republicans, they need to do an investation into everything the current administration has its hands in, and from there will determine impeachment or not. But once charges are pressed, Obama may be too scared to run for re-election as more and more of his corruption gets exposed.
Oh, there is NO DOUBT. In fact, it's because obama is not a "foolish" criminal that he has created layers and layers of corruption all around him (czars, appointees, advisers, etc.), so that when the inevitable exposure begins he will have dozens of "fall-guys" to take responsibility for his crimes.
My contention is that his fatal error comes in the form of underestimating one Darrel Issa. Beyond his being in the right position to expose this corruption, he also happens to be smarter than "all the president's men."
Good Lord!
I hope they all do not look like she does………….
Didnt know you were here in state, Im in Central GA, Warner Robins/Kathleen.
Nothing to back this up but I can see if things shake out right a 100+ seat gain for Republicans and control of the Senate. It would take a perfect storm but I think it could happen. If it does impeachment and removal from office is a real possibility.
I will be voting democrat. Why?
because I want the democrats in the white house when hyperinfaltion hits. I want them in the lime light. I do not want them crawling back under a rock and blaming the republicans.
They are like the captain of the titanic promoting the cabin boy to captain 10 seconds before the ship hits the iceberg then saying "It happened on your watch…. its your fault"
No more. We have to keep them in… like a vampire held in sunlight. When the US collapses… and it will collapse.. they have to be the ones held responsible for their bad management. They screwed up california, new York, Illinois.
Do NOT let them crawl back into their coffins. There is NOTHING either party can do come November to stop hyper inflation and monetary collapse so it would be a waste to get republicans in at the last second.
The car is already flying off the cliff. Changing the driver will do NO good other than to blame the driver when the car hits the bottom of the cliff.
…..they are dead-ringers…. ; )
And kicked out of the Country!
Nah, Nah, Nah, Nah, Hey, Hey, Hey…….
That's because they're CRIMINALS!!!!!!!
The next ten years depend on us keeping the pols feet VERY warm…
Well we know that Eric Holder won't prosecute, the new black panthers have already set precedent for that.
You have some very valid points.
Just as nothing is too big to fail, there are some things that simply cannot be salvaged, once they pass the point of no return.
I fear for our Republic; for my children, and my grandchildren.
Your guess is as good as mine. Just stopped in at weatherchannel.com and it looks like it's still pretty far out. Those things are pretty unpredictable but, then, I don't have science.
)
Oooookay. lJ. You get the prize of the century for packing more libsite/huffpo talking points into one paragraph than I have ever seen. You really deserve some bonus pay from soros for that one. LOL
Now onto your other inanity:
"A REPUBLICAN VICTORY IN 2010 IS NEEDED FOR OBAMA'S RE-ELECTION!!!!!!"
And do you know why? Could it be that he could NEVER EARN IT FOR HIMSELF?
Nice strategy. For a loser.
(P.S. I thumbed you UP for that one, just for the laugh) Hahahahaha
"No big deal. Republicans HAVE to control the house if Obama is to stand a chance in 2012."
How inspirational that must be for you:
"My guy has a CHANCE to win because the other guys might really suck."
Are you a CUBS fan?
Hmmm. Ya mean we don't have a weather czar yet?
Maybe by Monday we will.
I have been here almost 3 years now, taking care of grand kids….you arn't that far from here.
You're not the only one CB.
Pretty funny.
I'd rather prey on these morons……
My friend, things are tenuous at best.
Oh I do pray ……. ; )

LJ,
On one thing you are correct. Two more years of what we have just been through and the revolution will be underway. Obama's only possibility of re-election is for a conservative Congress to save him from self destruction. This is precisely what happened to Clinton who's over-reaching attempt at HillaryCare swept in the Republicans for the first time in decades. They then proceeded to balance the budget. Clinton however was an adept politician, looking to triangulate and win back the center. With Dick Morris's help, and the Republican Party's failure of imagination resulting in the uninspiring Bob Dole candidacy, Clinton pulled it off. Obama is no Clinton. He has no charm, he's not likable, and he's out of his depth because he's too ideologically rigid. His only talent is reading from a teleprompter and that skill is inconsistent at best. He does not enjoy his job because making decisions is hard work and he acts like it. He has no sense of humor and he is not a leader. I doubt very much whether he will even emerge as the D candidate for the 2012 election and if he does, he will not win because he does not want this job anymore. He would prefer the easy life of an ex-president.
GOODBYE……
Well I'm in Va. and you both are a hop, 3 jumps, and a couple of skips from me. ; )
