Alaska Libertarians to Sen. Murkowski: No Thank You!

Since her election night loss to conservative Joe Miller, Sen. Murkowski and her political allies have floated the idea of her switching to the Libertarian Party to continue her run for reelection. Apparently, Sen. Murkowski is fairly flexible in her political loyalties and inclinations. (Her past support for libertarian policies has certainly escaped us.)
Yesterday, the 5-member Executive Committee of the Board of the Libertarian State Party meet in an emergency session to consider Sen. Murkowski’s bid for the party’s nod. After a contentious three-hour meeting, the Board voted unanimously to deny Sen. Murkowski the party’s nomination.
Scott Kohlhaas, Chairman of the Alaska Libertarian Party and candidate for the state House said the decision was based on Sen. Murkowski’s voting record:
Sen. Murkowski voted for TARP. She voted to bailout Fannie and Freddie. Although no one from her campaign had approached us about her running as a Libertarian, the speculation had reached the point where we felt we had to take a clear stand.
We did the hard work to get a Libertarian candidate on the ballot. We didn’t do that hard work to then nominate someone with Sen. Murkowski’s record.

Good for the Libertarian Party of Alaska! This will get lost in the news, but that was quite an impressive move. It is rare that you see people exhibit character along these lines these days. The momentum would favor them going along because there are short term benefits to both parties. Nice to see a place not consumed by opportunism.

She has no political loyalty as it turns out. This is exactly what the Tea Party movement has been created to defend against……..those who want a career in politics need to look elsewhere for employment. This woman is a fraud and does not have Alaska's best interest at heart.

As a republican party, tea party, and former libertarian party member, I say great!
We should work together for the best interests of the country, not for our own personal aggrandizement. Having a powerful woman on your team is not worth the cost to the libertarian party soul. Let's face facts: we have a choice this november and we need to choose Republicans this time around. Libertarians should see this unfortunate fact and try to join into the Republican party, just for this election only.
Republicans are not in a position to reject any help either, they need every seat, every person, and every election to count. The more they get in 2010, the better. They need to sacrifice and embrace libertarian positions as well.
The Libertarian Party (as distinct from political libertarians) has shown an unfortunate inclination to accept candidates (Russell Means, Howard Stern) of questionable ability and even more suspect understanding of libertarian ideals. Ron Paul, though I don't agree with him 100%, is at least educated on and dedicated to those ideals.
3 contentious hours, for something that should have taken a maximum of 10 minutes? I know Kolhaas was at least open to the possibility of running Murkowski. I'm certainly glad they found sanity, but I have to wonder how they mislaid it.
There you have it. Another Crist. Murkowski is willing to dump the repubs and jump to the libertarians to save her political rump. That is another real indication that she is not needed in any position of power in our government. How can one trust her to represent the will of the people?

And going back to Murkowski, someone I'm more than happy to show the door as a Republican, the Libertarians rejecting her is a symptom of either cause. During the election that gave Murkowski her Senate seat, the Libertarians polled below the Greens and the Alaskan INDEPENDENCE Party!
Apparently this woman has more money than brains. Seems to be a disorder that is afflicting many politicians.
