AP: Black Members of Tea Party Dispute Racist Claims
by PubliusWASHINGTON (AP) – Black members of the tea party movement on Wednesday rejected charges that the group’s activists are racist, saying they oppose President Barack Obama because of his policies not his skin color.
The members gathered at a Washington news conference in the wake of allegations about its rank and file, heightened by the recent split with a Tea Party Express leader who had posted a letter on his blog written from “Colored People” to Abraham Lincoln. The post suggested that black people would choose slavery over having to do real work.
The black members said the racism that has been attributed to the tea party movement came from outsiders who infiltrated the groups to discredit their work and it should be rejected.
“These people do not oppose Barack Obama because of his skin color. They oppose him because of his policies,” said Lloyd Marcus, a spokesman for the group.
The NAACP last month approved a resolution condemning racism within the tea party movement and called on activists to “repudiate the racist element and activities” within the political movement.
At the news conference, several members assailed Obama and the Democrats, often in harsh terms.
“Democrats have re-enslaved America,” said Kevin Jackson, president of the Black Conservative Coalition. He said tea party activists, if successful, would reduce the size of government and set in motion another Emancipation Proclamation, the document that President Abraham Lincoln signed that effectively ended slavery.
“This time, even the white folks get freed,” said Jackson, who accused Obama of viewing fellow blacks as “mongrels.”
Democratic National Committee spokesman Hari Sevugan declined to respond to the tea party leaders’ criticism. The White House also declined to comment.

Finally some organized response from the TEA party to the (unfounded) claims of racism. We need to speak truth to power. It's the only way to start digging out of this mess.
Black liberal's are knuckleheads because they won't acknowledge the points of view from conservative blacks. To them, black conservatives are traitors.
This group is going to be a very influential force in the near future. I am proud to stand alongside them.

Can I just say for the record I don't care who the fuck you are. What your skin color is, what god you pray to, what you eat, what ever the hell thing there is about you; if you believe in the Constitution and the right of ALL men – that is ALL PEOPLE, to be free and to have equal participation in the free market and to participate in this society we have built here, without infringing on the rights of other free men then you are one of us!
Capitalism above all is color/race/religion/sexual orientation blind! If you can make a product better or cheaper then you deserve to be able to do so and to benefit from it. What is wrong with that? How can any free man disagree with this unless they themselves seek to obtain undeserved benefits for themselves? How can it be otherwise?
I just don't get it, it's so simple and basic to our wonderful country.
And the statist seeks to use this (racism) as a tool to destroy the freedom and prosperity that capitalism brings to all man?

Thank God for black Conservatives. In my arrogant opinion I think it takes quite a bit of moral courage and strong character to be a minority Conservative and go against the grain of small minded reactionary leftwing bigots.

Actually, there may be way more black conservatives in office after this November than ever before. Just look at all the local races (political) where there are black conservatives running. They ALL have the Tea Party support. The Congressional Black Caucus may have to be re-named the Conservative Black Caucus.

The liberals and Democrats take advantage of the victim mentality to gain more power. They encourage it amongst blacks and other minorities who are willing to cry racism at every turn because when they do they gain even more power. Libs could care less about these minorities that they claim to want to empower. In reality, they disempower them through the herd victim mentality where the big government will take care of you as long as you give that big government your votes. The day that blacks and other minorities cease to see themselves as powerless victims is the day that they will have all the power that they could ever want in the world. I have 2 young adults who drank the Kool-Aid. They now understand it has been laced with strychnine and my daughter at 25 and employed wants to make up a bumper sticker that says: Thanks Obama I am now a REPUBLICAN. My son just graduated at 28 (late bloomer!) and has a Libertarian bent but the more he sees Obama lie the more conservative he is becoming. Neither will vote Democrat this year if ever again. They both have gone with me to Tea Party demonstrations and they certainly support the movement. Many of their engaged friends are the same.

Actually, it's 88% approval among Blacks and 39% among Whites. 39% is too small a number of Whites for me to consider what they say seriously. If Obama can't get at least 95% of Whites to support him, then I certainly won't.
That is, if I was a liberal who placed value on a person's opinion according to their color of their skin rather than logic, reason, or the content of their character.
Accusations of racism in the Tea Party are nothing more than an attempt to deflect the national conversation away from the appalling policies of this adminisration and the horrendous ideology of progressive liberalism. That's it. If their ideas were worth a crap they would be touting them, that fact that they are not should be telling you something.
Remember, the difference between a conservative and a progressive is that a conservative will argue with you, a progressive just wants to shut you up (I will and have been posted this statment a lot). I'm proud to be an African-American who identifies with the Tea Party. America is the nation that fought a war to end slavery within its borders. America has nothing to be ashamed of vis-a-vis African-Americans — we have known freedom here like nowhere else on earth. The founding principles of this great nation are the same principles that have guided us towards freedom as a people. We should celebrate the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, limited government and personal liberty more than anyone else.
This battle over Tea Party racism is "for all the marbles". Breitbart has it exactly right in shooting his arrows straight towards the faux racism allegations that keep black folks corralled on the Democratic Party plantation. Without 90+% support from African-Americans, the Democrats would be finished as a party — headed for the dustbin of history like the Dixiecrats, Socialists, Communists, Confederates, Whigs, etc., who preceded them and from which they sprung.
Blacks folks are not European socialists. We like freedom as much as any Americans. We've just been deceived into thinking that one party is racist, and the other is our "friend". But our "friends" proceeded to place us into the kind of slavery that they are now looking to inflict on the nation as a whole.
