When Peter Schweizer uncovered evidence of insider trading by Republican chairman of the House Financial Services Committee Spencer Bachus (R-AL), and 60 Minutes reported on it, I was the first person to call for Rep. Bachus to resign. That was November 14, 2011. Now, with news that the Office...

One of the great economists of the twentieth century,if we followed his advice we would not be in the predicament we are in now. Instead we get the irresponsible Tim Geitner and Larry Summers and of course the chief villain old jug ears.
It's really quite ironic, that he traveled the world speaking about freedom, and now we have socialists and communists, inserted into our government, determined to destroy the lifestyle that made the USA so great! I pray that we can turn this nightmare around ….soon!!!
A man who challenged the notion of the Keynesian model in the fifties and was shunned for it in the 60's. His laissez faire approach influenced Reagan and helped give us over a quarter century of economic growth. Contrast Friedman's ideas against this admin's and it's easy to connect the dots on why we can't recover from this recession. BTW, just read where Maxine Waters has to answer to ethic charges. As Mr. Rogers used to say, "it's a good day in the neighborhood."
They will say that we are picking on blacks because we hate having a black president.
I guess by now I shouldn't be suprised by the disingenuousness of liberals and their totally illogical misunderstanding of economics. Dr. Friedman SHOWED the world that markets work, unincumbered or less incumbered markets – like the tide – raises all boats.
Here we are – circa 2010 – Obama & Team Clueless continue to bang their *collective* heads against John Maynard Keynes' wall and the Three Stooges (Summers, Geitner, Orzag) are smacking each other with Marx's hammer & sickle.
I'm glad President Reagan didn't have to witness this heresy.
(trolls, don't start with the deficit/debt meme; the Democrat Congress spent ALL the revenue raised in the 80's and more, please )
Accidentally (too long a story), read a book called, I believe " Economics Made Easy" by Friedman when I was about 20. By the time I was finished I was a conservative for life.
The antithesis of the Keynesian Economic model…you know, the one that fails everytime it's tried…
Thanks Milton, what you say IS the Truth, whether Obama and the Leftists believe it or not….
Nothing will change for the better until Obama adopts policies consistent with growth in the private sector..
Building briges and roads, while important, must be funded by taxes from people providing goods and services people want. It's called DEMAND. When the roads are finished, it's appreciated, but expected, and creates no lasting economic stimulus.
Now on the other hand, IPads, Ipods, Smart Phones, cool cars, home furnishings … That's what keeps people working, making products people want and need.
This is the Milton Friedman way…It's perfect for Obama…It's a no brainer…
Our Country will survive Obama, but the mentality that put a man like this in power, is the real cause of my sleepless nights.
November will say much about the direction the Country insists on going.
Whether Obama heeds our demands and begins to do, in economic terms, what's been proven correct and workable in the past, is up to him, but to ignore all of us, will seal his fate and that of the Democrats for years to come…
IMhO…
HPD, I think Oblamer was an anomaly, a fluke.
Omongrel is a "perfect storm" of lying about his intentions, generally M.S.Media induced Bush/GOP fatigue, economic jitters, 'McDull' as the nominee and the "he's kinda black – wow!" novelty/white guilt factor. The Fannie/Freddie induced meltdown engineered by Dodd and Fwank played right into Odipshit's hands.
Even the dullest dolt has realized our National Mistake, no matter how much he lies and blathers.
The repudiation will be strong and wide. I have faith in Americans, we (they) made a mistake.
mtv22,
Yes it is a good day with Rangel and Waters charged… BUt when they just sweep the charges under the rug, slap their wrists and put millions into their re-election it will go back to SS, DD (Same Sh!t, Different Day)…
He asked for it and I complied: Reptilian Mongrel-in-Chief, Barack Obama, on the View-You Tube
On the radio this morning they were scratching their heads and theorizing about where all the oil is that was spilling into the Gulf of Louisiana. They came up with every possible theory except the most salient theory of all, which is that it was all exagerrated by the Obama administration and the Obamamedia as a pretext for shutting down all off-shore oil production. I guess, so that we can try Obama's solution to energy demand: proper tire inflation.
Should we send Obumbler a copy? He could read it on his next vacation.
We could, just for the Moron- in -Chief, rename Mr Friedman's book, "Economics of ODummies"
sub. "How I Triggered REAL Economic Growth While Telling My Ignorant Voters the Opposite"
.
Whether it will lift your mood or cement your fears–either way– there's nothing like hearing Uncle Milty say it plainly about socialized medicine.
But the best gem of all is his brilliant retort to Phil Donahue (oh please oh please let us have an open thread featuring THAT pompous ass!!) which can be found on YouTube as well.
He nailed the elitist class-monger to the wall with his biting observation about greed. It should be memorized by every Tea Party member. That is how you speak with calm certainty in the face of subjective ideology.
Jb
yup, we will see. The Harry Reid/Sharron Angle contest in Nevada, as well as the CA elections, will be true indicators of where we are going. As it stands now, the incumbents or Dim candidates are ahead.
This should not be. I'm worried.
Friedman's view on the war on drugs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nLsCC0LZxkY
And on limited government: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=681352923...
Send video 2 to every progressive you know.
So much awesome! Don't tell the goons at Google that YouTube is hosting videos of Capitalist propaganda!
Friedmanian common sense vs. Keynesian nonsense.
Conservative vs, retar-, uh,….. liberal.
Intelligent frugality vs. Bozo the- , uh…….Krugman.
The choice isn't too hard you progtarded pinheads……But, if you have to have unicorns, I'm sure you can get some in the coloring book section at Wal-Mart..
And it was sooooo effortless.
Something is very amiss there. If one would pull back the curtain in Nevada, methinks there be shenanigans afoot.
A Tennesse Attorney named Van Irion is bringing a class action law suit against obama for ramming the HealthCare Bill through against our will. Go to obamacareclassaction.com and get some satisfaction.
I saw last night on TV, a Tennessee Attorney named Van Irion is bringing a Class Action law suit against obama for ramming the Health Care Bill through against our will. Go t obamacareclassaction.com and hasten BOs demise.
Lets hasten the downfall of BO and help a Tennessee Attorney named Van Irion bring his Class Action law suit against obama for ramming the "HealthCareBill" through against our will. Go to obamacareclassaction.com
and give obama something to do besides golf, and working with the rest of the socialists to destroy our Country.
Nice!
Dirty politics. We are a bit behind in that category. The only way they can win is by corruption and using vulnerable Americans as voting blocks. Those on Welfare and 3 years Unemployment have to vote Dem or the "Gravy Train" stops.
Also Dirty Harry throws his money around and Unions eat money for Lunch.
I was so sure at least 1 Big thread today would have been a Mongrel thread
This just points up two ends of the spectrum. One who believes in prosperity and freedom. The other who believes in using those tied to government Welfare programs, funded with OUR hard earned Tax Money, to keep them in power.
Dems must stay up at night counting their "voting blocks" — Lets see, we have the Latinos, blacks, poor, Illegals, Unions,…..yeah we've got pretty much everybody except the hard working Americans who give us the Tax Money to use against them!
I like that. Talk about economics, you may want to go to the link- obamacareclassaction.com.
A Tennessee attorney is suing obama for ramming the HealthCareBill through against the will of the people.
I think that Bill alone will make Dems rich for a long time. It gives away everything we've worked for.
Funny.
I had the same thought.
Perhaps the one with Obama in his black cowboy cap should be dedicated to mongrels and bastards.
You know they are pushing all this through NOW because the Dems are sure to lose control of
Cong in Nov, and Repb's would head the committee's then. Can't take that chance.
But they kept them all this time just to insure the passage of their agenda. Had to keep that filibuster proof majority.
Just a random thought: Independence is not two words.
And yet his most closely-held beliefs have proven to be of no more use in solving the greatest economic challenges our nation faces than ATM cards. Supply-side economic theory, Keynesian economic theory, Marxism, socialism, feudalism – they all are variants of the economic equivalent of rearranging the deck chairs as the ship continues to slip beneath the waves. All will fail because all are based upon a flawed organizational premise.
History has taught us that economic societies and governments fall because government corruption always ends up in allowing the ruling class to bankrupt the country because the markets, fiscal appropriations processes and banking systems were not structured to be self-sustaining and self-regulating in design and operation. As long as the banking system is not self-sustaining in nature, there will be those men of power who will decide, for whatever reason appeals to their intellect at that moment, to change the amount of currency or credit that is available in the economy in an attempt to replace the beneficial impacts of free-market driven capital allocations with the pronouncements of the wise men of lore and governance. This always fails and will continue to fail because the decisions of these sagacious minds will never mimic the decisions the market would make in the absence of their corruptions of the market. This is what economists call Rational Choice Theory and history shows us it always wins out and will always destroy governments, markets and institutions that are not self-sustaining and self-regulating in nature and actual operations. Capitalism, socialism and communism have no bearing on this matter.
Economists try to justify a system of capital and credit allocation to sustain market activity and this is always a disaster and they know this will be a disaster, but they can't help it. They can't help it because they know the system will inevitably crash and burn so the larger question always remains unanswered and beyond their ability to even consider as they have always thought "this is the way it will always be" just like the people who knew (intrinsically) that powered flight was impossible until that cold afternoon of December 17th, 1903 when the Wright Brothers demonstrated the axiom of, "if men were meant to fly they would have wings," to be as true as the axiom today of "as sure as death and taxes".
Now we have come to the great test that every economic society faces: what do we do now that we are facing that point in time where the ruling class has voted itself enough gifts from the treasury that the bankruptcy of our society and fall of government appear to be likely to happen in the near-term window.
My vote is for an actual solution instead of who gets to be social director on the Titanic and that means it is time to adopt Lovellian economics or we get to face the fact that our society is going to crash if we don't.
Milton Freidman’s genius is sorely lacking in statist Washington.
No
The family photo with typical white granny and black father and sisters
Just to put "Obama's words" in context
In my opinion mongrel is such a demeaning word
Maybe mulatto would have been more accurate and less animal like reference
But hey,Hussein Obama is not the sharpest crayon in the box
And if a lib did not mis-speak they would just be boring
Sharron started making a big deal about fluoridation in drinking water, made her sound weirdly conspiratorial…She must stop that…or Reid will continue to paint her as a kook…
Please tell me more on your thoughts about Phil Donahue. I never watched the guy myself. All I know is that he was a liberal loser in general. What specifically do you think he should be roasted for?
As the daughter of a Catholic father from Cleveland, and as the sister of a Catholic priest, I heard nothing but Donahue in my early years. Had to watch him. He's the mainstream front man for Liberation Theology, IMNSHO.
And meanwhile, while the economy is going to hell in a hand basket, our fearless leader is on The View, answering questions about Snookie. Lord help us.
BTW- Snookie was arrested yesterday for disorderly conduct at the beach in Jersey. Maybe someone should inform the President.
Interesting. So he was the Jeremiah Wright of the MSM white community. I seem to recall that he was a big advocate of abortion rights. How did that play in the Catholic community? Also, that would seem to be counter-productive to the cause of Liberation Theology. I'm assuming he was filled with "white guilt" and believed in the notion of reparations? Sounds like a terribly confused and conflicted man to me. In short, your typical liberal…perhaps the quintessential liberal?
The economic philosophy of Freidman,..is so coherent that,….
excepting it on faith is not folly.
What I do not understand is how we have been arguing,……..
for or against Obama's handling the American economy,……
as if he too had a particular philosophy on how to maintain a healthy economy.
All Obama wants to accomplish is to,……….
take billions from an American economy, which he could not care less about,……..
and divert monies to the worldwide Bill Ayers type organizations and interests.
Case in point:
there are tens of thousands of illegals being registered to vote and,…….
being bussed to and fro to demonstrate for,……."immigration reform".
We are financing all of this.
Milton Freidman,………
never factored this into any of his formulas.
Your responses and questions are entirely too leading for my comfort. You have point? Get to it.
I don't think I mean to imply anything more than he's a gasbag / grab bag of personal and political views. I don't hate the man, I think he is a genuine thinker and questioner in comparison to today's media interviewers. I don't think he is malicious but he was certainly a ringmaster of emotional issues. He gave more time to opposing POVs than today's pseudo-intellectuals, but back then we demanded and expected such conduct from the venue.
His bleeding heart liberalism was the mainstream vanguard of much of the radical Left's ideology.
I had no point or agenda. I simply wanted another person's perspective on a man I believed to be a negative influence on society. I'm sorry if my questions made you uncomfortable.
Everything doesn't have to be a fight, you know. I was looking for an interesting conversation.
Not offended. You simply have a leading way of asking questions. Are you Donahue?! LOL!
)
Hardly.
Just playin'.
You said you'd love to talk about Donahue. I was just holding the door open for you. I thought it was the polite thing to do. Honestly, I had hoped others might join in as well. It is an open thread, after all.
And I'm not fighting. I too, am looking for interesting conversation, but I have no problem with challenging someone's written style. The Internet begs for clarification in the cold bits and bytes of communication robbed of visual context. It breeds a natural caution. I call it out, and if it's nothing I have no problem with accepting the explanation.
But then, I've been in the rough and tumble of the Intartubes and flame wars for about 10 years and my hide is probably way too tough and jaded. Pax then? I meant no offense, I just come into the conversation full-on.
/former prez of the debate club nerd.
We had Milton Friedman, hero to civilization. Obama has Krugman.
Friedman was the architect of Reaganomics, and the current Chinese economy, and the turnaround of the Chilean economy 30 years ago when they were bankrupt and had 1000% inflation. Now Chile has a sovereign wealth fund that invests globally.
There are some classic Friedman videos available o youtube. My favorite is the "pencil" explanation of free markets and it's day to day impact on humans and why free markets are essential.
Must see. Must repeat to all economic illiterate liberals.
.
Listening to this man, for me, is pornography.
"…….Listening to this man, for me, is pornography. ……."
which man,………….?????
and how do you define pornography,……..????
That was hilarious!! I forwarded it to my son.
I just received a package from Amazon: Friedman's "Capitalism and Freedom", Hayek's "Road to Serfdom", and Smith's "Wealth of Nations". Got my work cut out for me, but I've decided to intellectually arm myself to the teeth.
Barry was having one of those Macaca Moments.
Funny, the half-black president just last night threw Rangel under the bus.
I have a theory it's cynical, bear with me:
Obama is at heart, above all else, a narcissist. I believe he WANTS the Dems to lose both houses because (short of a Reichstag crisis) it'd be the only way he gets re-elected. Right now he's losing in polls to "Any Republican". Now check it: if the Republicans win, repeal his laws, and the economy turns around? He can ride the economy to victory, a la Bubba (and I bet Bubba is telling him this today at the wedding).
Or, if the economy doesn't turn around, he has Republicans to blame. It's a win-win. Right now, the Democrats own EVERYTHING that happens.
I could be wrong, and maybe my cynicism is misplaced, but I wouldn't be surprised if he starts throwing dems under the bus left and right in the next few months.
Milton Friedman was a great man. Happy Birthday Milton.
nice line up. Is Smith's in a modern dialect? Some of the English and 16th&17th century thinkers (Locke for instance) are great but are sometimes a bit stilted language wise and that can make them sometime laborious to plow through. I covered the older material as school work (generally in parts, from Plato's Republic through late 18th/early 19th century material.
Outstanding material though, fantastic.
Pick up Machievelli's "The Prince". That's the handbook of hardball politics.
I think you have something there, actually.
I mean, I keep asking myself – why aren't the Dems listening to the people? I've never seen that happen before. Usually if you threaten them with getting fired, they get in line. Why are they so smug right now?
Sometimes I think horrible things like a plan to turn us into a dictatorship and they have the plan going and it's going so well, it doesn't matter.
But this is also a pretty good explanation as well, and doesn't make me lose as much sleep!
Were he alive today, I believe Dr. Friedman would be overjoyed to see the Tea Party movement. He would also be unsurprised by the forces necessitating it. He understood that freedom is unfortunately not a typically occurring phenomena. Rather, he realized that government tyranny and despotism have ruled throughout history, but that our great country has always been the manifestation of humanity's desire to be free.
When witnessing and being subjected to this country's current enemies of freedom, it is easy to become frustrated to the point of hopeless apathy. Seeing Dr. Friedman interviewed or watching the 'Free to Choose' series, seeing his quiet confidence that, in the end, freedom is too strong and argument to not prevail, is nothing short of inspirational.
I would recommend to anyone that they head to You Tube right now and search for any interview with Dr. Friedman. One can see that he was practically a 1-man Tea Party all by himself in the 1970s. For instance, watching him politely eviscerate Phil Donahue never gets old.
Liberals, progressives, etc. have always attempted to take both the moral and intellectual high ground. Friedman proved time and time again that they had neither.
Oh, I've read The Prince. Explains my cynical view of government, because I know they've all read it too. I'm in grad school at the moment. Worked in the private sector for 7 years after college, just lost my job, figured this crap economy is as good a time as any to bang out a Master's.
My Smith doesn't say it's translated or edited, so I'm not sure. Haven't started it. In the middle of doing a paper on Kissinger, ha. These books are my "summer reading" (yeah, I know, slightly masochistic) for when I'm done with summer classes.
I have some professors (shocking) who are hardcore Keynsian, even though I'm in a Gov, not Econ program, who I personally enjoy bantering with about current events. They're just more versed in the classics than me, so I'm trying to level the playing field for the fall.
You ever read any Sowell?
Well, I'm not sure about the rats in congress. They just might really be out of touch from being in the poisoned well of DC for so long. Smugness is a way of life for them, and I don't think they've fully grasped the power of new media, and the awakening of the majority of decent people in this country who used to be more focused on leading a good life than watching DC. They're in for a rude awakening. I maybe can chalk off their smugness for arrogance.
I think Obama is a different sort; I really think he wanted to go down in history as this transformational, FDR type, overplayed his hand by a longshot, and now is asking Bubba how to save his legacy. The way to do that would be to govern from the center, but that can't happen with Dem control of congress… to many far leftists porkers to allow centrism. They eat their blue dogs.
Or, that secret plot you mention could be on deck. I sincerely hope he's more into himself, than Chavez.
Good idea to ride out the strom in Grad School, congrats. I'm self preping for the LSAT before I enter the classes I have to pay for, I'll see how that goes.
I've read his columms. I have a deep and abiding respect for Dr. Sowell, what a towering intellect. I've gone round and round with some of my professsors. They seemed *pleased* I graduated. My advisor with LSAT stuff is an old conservative history professor, he teaches Socratic method – kids run in hysterics away from his side of the building.
I seen you posts here for awhile, you're very sage – best of luck with G.S.
A few years back I took a government class and popped off right away about something – I established I was a conservative – and found myself in a whole nest of conservative students – by accident.
It was great – we'd hoot and hollar and give the libs hell. We had the student body president and College Republican president and a few ex-military guys, and regular students. One black guy, many Hispanics and me and a few other Heinz conservatives. Very refreshing.
James- you seem to understand the world around you as well. Good luck with the LSAT prep
thanks
Well, I did my best to answer your questions, but as you can see, maybe Phil Donahue doesn't lend himself to much discussion. I meant no offense and I apologize for what offense you found.
At any rate, glad to see you've found more interesting conversation.
Ha, I just had a similar experience the other day while we were discussing Wilson and bureaucracy. Seems conservatives forget that though the teachers are mostly to the left, in the GenPop conservatives outnumber leftists 2-to-1. Once the realization hit us, the teacher had a much tougher time with assumptions. I'll give my prof credit though, he admits that the most coherent criticisms of bureaucracy come from the right.
The libs in my class are pretty quiet. Except for one guy who works in constituent services for a city congressman. He's pretty condescending and annoying… and himself a symptom of the problem we are having with our government.
But you're right, that moment when you realize you're not alone, and that your thoughts are actually shared by those sitting around you is gosh darn refreshing. I'm off to write a paper, but I'll be seeing you on these Bigs friend.
No doubt a great man, however, we lost his great intellect in 2006. May he be resting in peace.
I remember the left calling Reagan's economic policy's as, voo do economics. So, now I can say Obamanomics is do do economics. Friedman was a very smart economist. If these people in Washington truly cared about US little people they would read, and study this mans work, because everything else is a fairy tale and has never worked anywhere in the world.
This country, with its institutions, belongs to the people who inhabit it. Whenever they shall grow weary of the existing Government, they can exercise their 'constitutional' right of amending it or their 'revolutionary' right to dismember or overthrow it." Abraham Lincoln, First inaugural address, March 4, 1861. (sometimes incorrectly cited as an April 4th speech)

Liberty? Friedman? He claimed the price of gold would go DOWN after de-linking it to the dollar. THIS has resulted in debt slavery and inflation. Neither of these are conducive to liberty.
This "great economist" said the price of gold would go DOWN after de-linking to the dollar. He is an idiot at best, and evil more than likely.
"The market" has almost NOTHING to do with the corrupt casino of the "stock market" – it is important to distinguish between the two! The former is main street, the latter is Wall Street. It is the difference between a barber shop and Goldman-Sachs.
You are going to read an author who predicted gold prices would go DOWN after being de-linked to the dollar? What else are you going to read – the con-man Dinesh D'Sousa? Milton Friedman is the "Oprah Book Club" level of economist.
Worked in the private sector for 7 years after college, just lost my job, figured this crap economy is as good a time as any to bang out a Master's.
It would be better to "master" a REAL skill like welding. Masters? PhDs are serving coffee. Think about it before you put yourself deep in debt. Universities have become largely scams.
I got an assistanship. It's free, hoss
Says the guy who's clearly never read him. Go away troll. Go watch oprah
I took no offense at all. I just picked up on the idea that you suspected I was drawing you in for some nefarious purpose of my own, so I backed off. Again…it was the polite thing to do. It looks like no one wants to give old Phil the time of day. I can't say I blame them.
And in a tough job market, it's intelligent to give yourself a leg up on the competition. Like it or not, people with MAs have greater job prospects than BAs. Fact. I've chosen to gain an advantage. Now go away troll. When one of us wants your opinion, we'll ask.
He never had it – see his prediction of gold prices after de-linking it to the dollar. The man doesn't even understand what money is.
Ah, what "status" grants you that?
calm down talky. I meant free market, market forces driving the economy, not the stock market. I'm disgusted with the inside trader/government drone revolving door. We see it with the OMB guy on deck Lew. He pimped himself out at Goldmans and now he's a budget guy. All pimps.
That's all assuming people with those degrees will be in demand. MBA's have largely shown the world that advanced degrees are usually a sign of someone who is clueless and often dangerous.
Says the guy who sidesteps what I charge about Friedman. What's wrong, did you look it up and see I'm right? LOL! I wonder if he made a lot of money personally with that "prediction."
Huh? I spend 30 hrs a week helping professors with research. I get my tuition covered in return. To get it, I had to interview with the chair, so I guess the status is "Competent Individual who can Conduct Themselves in an Interview, and Displayed a Substantive Grasp of the Subject Matter"
You should change your approach to thinkzabit
I got it covered, hoss. Not going for an MBA either…
Thanks. I just get tired of them being used interchangeably.
I hesitate to use the term "free market" because of the onerous level of regulation and government interference in modern business. There really aren't "free markets". I understand what you're saying and appreciate you called me out on the distiction. I thought about it before I typed it, then left it as is. You caught it. That's cool.
I haven't read his book yet, dimwit. Once I do, I'd love to debate the merits/deficits of his views… if they're actually his views, and not some leftist distortion of them. We'll see. And clearly, you're not a fan of his. That's fine. I stick to subjects I'm aware of. It's why you're viewed as a fool, and I'm not.
"………..It would be better to "master" a REAL skill like welding,…….."
welding is a great skill,…. there talksalot,…..but,………
what does one weld in this environment.
Advice that Baracky and his Progressives/Marxists just can't seem to stand:
"I am favor of cutting taxes under any circumstances and for any excuse, for any reason, whenever it's possible." –Milton Friedman
Maybe THE greatest economist. Talkzalot has an IQ just below that of an orangutan. The morons in the Barry administration told us that 1.6 trillion would buy us an unemployment rate of below 8. Well the real unemployment rate is just below 20. Let's face it, Barry is a bumbling idiot and clueless on the economy. Ever heard him talk without a teleprompter? He sounds like an uneducated imbecile. That's why he needs one to talk to preschoolers. What an absolute embarrassment for our country. Only someone dumber than dumb would think otherwise.
There's a great Op Ed piece from Investor Business Daily on Drudge today entitled "Will Washington's Failures Lead To Second American Revolution?". It's a great read and amazing that a mainstream pub. (albeit conservative) is absolutely ripping O to shreds.
Aw, gee! For some reason, Google didn't tweak their logo to commemorate Friedman's birthday! How could they have made such an oversight!
Oh well. Here's another quote, instead :
“A society that puts equality before freedom will get neither. A society that puts freedom before equality will get a high degree of both.” ~~ Milton Friedman
/I suspect Barack won't find that advice welcome either …
Fluoridation in drinking water..!?!?!?!?
geezzzz……
I hadn't heard that one. She didn't say anything about sapping our precious bodily fluids, did she?
Liberty, Friedman? Yes, moron.
"Economists who oppose the gold standard may recognize what has to be achieved in order to make a centrally controlled paper standard superior to a decentralized gold standard. Milton Friedman poses the key question: "[H]ow … can we establish a monetary system that is stable, free from irresponsible tinkering, and incapable of being used as a source of power to threaten economic and political freedom?"(4) How, in other words, can we design a system that we cannot tinker with? While Friedman goes on to suggest how such a system might be designed, economists who support the gold standard argue that this objective is self-contradictory and operationally impossible. Any monetary institution that is designed and implemented by a central authority can be abused by that central authority. "

When Allende, the lunatic Communist who ran Chile into the ground, shot himself in the head rather than face his treacherous crimes, the succeeding government immediately recognized the economy was a total basket case. Guess who they hired for the recovery… Milton Freidman instituted Free Market Capitalism. Chile’s Chicago Boys who were Friedman’s protégés administered to Freidman’s programs and Chile thrived and continues to thrive today!!!
And for you deranged Bush haters… Chile also instituted a personal retirement and healthcare accounts… retired Chileans continue to thrive in their old age.
Watching Milton Friedman in any sort of debate with Phil Donahue is like watching Mike Tyson fight Cecily Tyson…
It's the Elizabethan language of Hobbes' Leviathan that makes that one so hard to get through. Smith's a bit more palatable, though still a challenge to read quickly.
The Prince is great, and also an excellent go to source for good research paper quotes, as I found out in one of my English classes, particularly if your professor is a bleeding heart lib whom you like to tweak.
True. That's a read and reread selection. Then read it one more more time. Sections of it were part of a political science Western thought class I took. It's on my shelf, over there >>>>>>
Yup …Michael Medved mentioned it on his show recently, but in ACTUALLY researching the subject, it seems the fluoridation quotes and controversy is from almost 20 years ago…But that doesn't stop the Reid people…
