Govt Official/NAACP Award Recipient Resigns after Big Government Exposé

This morning, we broke video of a USDA official, Shirley Sherrod, recounting for attendees at an NAACP awards dinner how she withheld help from a white farmer seeking the agency’s help in saving his farm.
Fox News is reporting that Ms. Sherrod has resigned. From Fox:
“There is zero tolerance for discrimination at USDA, and I strongly condemn any act of discrimination against any person,” Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said in a written statement. “We have been working hard through the past 18 months to reverse the checkered civil rights history at the department and take the issue of fairness and equality very seriously.
Sherrod explained in the video that, at the time, she assumed the state or national Department of Agriculture had referred the white farmer to her. In order to ensure that the farmer could report back that she was indeed helpful, she said she took him to see “one of his own” — a white lawyer.
“I figured that if I take him to one of them, that his own kind would take care of him,” she said.
The video clip was first posted by BigGovernment.com. The clip is dated March 27 from an NAACP Freedom Fund banquet.
So, the USDA has issued a statement. We’re still waiting to hear from the NAACP.
Presumably, they will denounce the racism in the video as strongly as the Obama Administration has.

The worst part of this wasn't her or what she said, because let's face it, there are individuals out there who are racist. Maybe not even with evil intent, just racist. But the sad part is that this speach was given at an NAACP event and illustrates maybe that there are a lot of racist people within it, thus making it a racist organization. I say this because, she was getting accolades for her actions with this white farmer. I didn't hear anyone react negatively towards her racism or the actions she described in her speach. They all seemed to enjoy that the white farmer was not being treated the same as she would have treated a black farmer.

Well I don't care about your spelling the point is well made. I am sick and tired of this word too. I agree that Obama has set this country back 20 years or more on race relations. But I am glad to see that we have some talented honest, willing to work black conservative men and women on several ballots and I think their constituent will still be fair and give them a chance regardless of color.

She looks like a dark skinned Michelle Bachman (yeah, lucky me!) but in both Chicago and Cleveland the same TSA agents give her hell every week. (Yes, black females). I think its about time we start moving past this "racism" concept. As a word, it has no real meaning. I now live in CA (my parents still run the family farm/ranch and are getting on in years) and see all the pistachio and almond orchards that are dead in the Central CA area because of no water. I know you would know how many years it takes to have a producing orchard, and these are full on dead trees that are mature, now only good for firewood, when they could have produced fruit/nuts for decades…..and they consider themselves environmentalists for saving a smelt (a sardine that lives by the millions in the ocean).

I just got on a roll about the "safe Foods Act" and the situation in the central valley.
It makes me sick-just sick-that all those old grove almonds and pistachios and multi-generational farms are being put out of business. Just criminal!!!!!
They have been screwing the dairy farmers up in Sonoma county, too, with ridiculous regulations-we'll be lucky if there are any dairy cows left in NorCal in 20 years if they keep it up.
Those old groves have been around longer than the smelt that was spawning in the irrigation canals and getting sucked into the pumps.
AND those irrigation canals only been around for about 100 years-seems to me that the trees have been around longer than the stupid smelt–Darwin's Law-if a smelt is so stupid it's going to swim into a pump maybe it should be endangered-certainly not behavior to support survival of the fittest.

I work with the public. I see this kind of racism everyday. The 'get even for slavery mentality' is very prevalent in a little more than half of the black citizens. It always amazes me when I deal with blacks who don't carry the 'get even' chip on their soldier: they are always the ones with more common sense. Just the way it is out there. The NAACP seens to perpetuate racism and does nothing to bring people together.

Every time a liberal or black activist group gets exposed for their own racism or hypocricy, you can expect them to amp up the attacks against any sort of conservative establishment. So, be ready for it.

If the video displays what Breitbart thinks it does, then why does he feel the need for creative editing? The reason is that the whole video does not support the conservative meme. Now that the truth has come out, you all are trying to figure out a way to argue that it still supports your discredited hypothesis.
I'm at a bit of a loss to explain it myself. The only thing I can figure is that she believes that it is not possible for her to be racist since her minority group has traditionally been on the receiving end of racism. If you really believe yourself and your group to be a victim, then the same rules do not apply to you. Acting in a racist way becomes seen to you as "leveling the playing field." Others can correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems to me like that's what a lot of people seem to feel and act according to this rationale.

What prompted me to write was my sense that the stronger your message, the more effectively you can educate and influence others. Believe me, I considered keeping quiet because no one likes to be critiqued, and the danger of offending you was on my mind – but because I admire your perspective and passion, I took the risk of pointing out that if you misspell common words (especially when they are right there in the Headline of the article) some people, fairly or not, will presume that you are "uneducated" and your opinion is not worth as much.

There is new news circulating saying that this video is an edited version, and the original, unedited version presents this whole story in a different light that that presented by this story. What are right-wingers to think if this is true, and the story, and presented here, is false? What are conservatives to do with this possible new implication that their sources are often contrived?

Andrew, just admit you made a mistake here. The woman did not make any racist comments and you now your attempting to justify what you've done by blaming the NAACP based on the "racist" comments she made. There are many issues this incident reveals: one is the media's taking stories out of context and creating sensationalism; another is the lack of accountability people take in regards to these incidents (why can't anyone just say they made a mistake, apologize and move on!); another is the conclusions we all jumped to based on this irresponsible reporting and trust in the media.
Andrew Breitbart just appeared on John King USA….He couldn't get his point across to King…I got it immediately. Breitbart stated that his point with this video was to show how the NAACP "cheered" as Sherrod stated her racist attitude. She further stated that she learned it was not black vs. white, but the haves vs the have nots. The point again, was the response of the NAACP..Whether 24 years ago, or yesterday, it IS the NAACP who still approves of the racist attitude at the meeting!

This woman didn't say anything that struck me as racist (again watch the FULL clip). She was telling stories about an incident that OPENED HER EYES. In the full 43-minute video of her speech released by the NAACP Tuesday evening, Sherrod tells the story of her father's death in 1965, saying he was killed by white men who were never charged. She says she made a commitment to stay in the South the night of her father's death, despite the dreams she had always had of leaving her rural town.
"When I made that commitment I was making that commitment to black people and to black people only," she said. "But you know God will show you things and he'll put things in your path so that you realize that the struggle is really about poor people."
Sherrod said in the speech that working with Spooner, who she does not name, changed her entire outlook.
"She's always been nice and polite and considerate. She was just a good person," Eloise Spooner said. "She did everything she could trying to help."

If you listened to the full tape today the racism was in the audience and it was laughter during the telling of her tale. The racism was in the NAACP for not talking time to check into it and the Obama Administration for not getting the full story. Once again immature kneejerk reactions as in "they acted stupidly." Shirley Sherrod was just a sacrifice for many others to save face. Brietbart posted a video and did not call for her termination or punishment.

We visited your great state for about five days over the 4th of July. We were in McKinney. Such a great place and really really charming. The people were so nice (there was a 4th of July parade, wow!!!). Dallas was awesome (the museum is pretty impressive). Anyway, we enjoyed our short amount of time in Texas. We plan to visit again in the spring. I understand there is much more to do and see. Can't wait.

There are at least 5 ecosystems in Texas, and it sounds like you saw the city side of things. Most small, and more than a few large, towns have a July 4th parade. We always like the ones that include the little kids and their pets. When you see the folks, lined up with their flags, along the parade routes, you know there is a "Silent Majority" in this country. Let's hope they all are paying attention and go VOTE.
