Usually, I agree with the info that comes out of this sight. But this one actually makes me feel a little sad. Does it seem to anyone else that right or left, at the end of the day all anyone cares about is disagreeing with the other? I mean, the more I read and get involved, the more I see time wasted trying to win the point. I will say that from the conservative side, the argument is usually a lot more intelligent, and takes a lot longer to devolve to the name-calling, grade school insults (teabaggers? really? are they 12??)

Human Ingenuity Day is celebrated by the people who are making money selling useless stuff to sell the fools celebrating Earth Day. As government bureaucrats take over every aspect of industry and commerce the only way the individual can make his own fortune is by inventing the useless. You may not be allowed to create a new industry, but you can sell pet rocks.

Everyone always says to do your part. Yet, we have all these communitites that will not let people hang their clothes out on a clothesline to dry, and we have the pharmacy that refuses to reuse the same bottle for a refill. No wonder it all seems so confusing. Aren't these the kind of things that would make sense. Fresh from the line bedding at night, reusing plastic bottles that are oversized to start with. I wonder what the cost savings would be just on bottles for medications. Talk about a way to bring cost down when you consider the amount of prescribed drugs out there!

Removing 75% of the cold temperature data readings from the global compilations in 1990 artificially skewed the temperatures higher. And, that was just the beginning. There's lot's more they did fake the data.

To celebrate, the wife and I are commuting to work separately. I think I'll throw some recyclables into the land fill-bound trash bin, buy some non-rechargeable batteries, and improperly dispose of some compact fluorescent bulbs (you know, the mercury-filled ones that the Peoples Republic of Kalifornia mandates).

I'm a big fan of one of Edison contemporaries (and rival), Nikola Tesla. Tesla was a supreme example of how a brilliant scientist and engineer, who could advance technology and scientific understanding generations, in only a few years, can also be utterly clueless about human nature and politics, and therefore economics. His dream was to deliver electricity wirelessly, and free to the masses. When Westinghouse, Tesla's major benefactor, picked up on the free part, he, rightly, pulled the plug.
Sorta like the popular Einstein poster which says something like, "You can't simultaneously work toward peace, and prepare for war."

On Earth Day 1990 I had to return to Anchorage Alaska after an equipment malfunction and had to dump 60,000 pounds of aviation kerosine over the pristine Alaska wilderness(and an active volcano)to be at a safe landing weight. I didn't get any death threats but I still don't think the tree-huggers have forgiven me yet. Oh well.
Actually, Earth Day came early this year. Nature showed us she can spew more hydrocarbons, ash, and other miscellaneous junk into the atmosphere in a few hours, than we can in a few years.

Too bad, it just rained 3 inches or I would run my lawn sprinklers all day, you would not believe the

On a serious note, the electric co's are having a flurry of activity around here the last few years, adding
sub-stations, so that now there is one about every 7 or 8 miles. We're on a co-op for some of our power,
so it being community run, I've asked some of the directors why they're spending so much money on the
sub-stations. Never got a straight answer, but some did hint we might be having the same problems as
California had a few years back. Remember the rolling black-outs? These sub-stations would allow the
companies to be able to control flow so that the same customers would not be affected each time. Sort
of a share the pain mode of operation. How long before we have electrical service on par with Baghdad?
Thank the Lord, that is the best news I've heard in months. I'll celebrate his verdict instead of

I am going to take my car with only me in it down to the University of Minnesota to see Karl Rove speak at noon, buy a couple copies of his new book (to wound a tree), have him sign them (with ink made of petrochemicals) and then go have a nice lunch. Something deep fried, to use some BTUs, and spew some cooking oil gases into the atmosphere. Then off to the local Menard's to pick up a couple cases of 100 watt incandescent bulbs, because I am down to only 4 cases now. I like to keep about 6 cases of 60w-75w-100w bulbs on hand at all times. (When bulbs are outlawed, only outlaws will have bulbs!

I think the thing with plastic bottles, is, indeed, they are so cheap there is no incentive to reuse. But it is just stupid not to reuse the bottle, especially when the customer initiates it.

I don't throw trash out of my car, because I don't expect other people to clean up after me. Being a conservative means I take care of my stuff, and a little extra to cover for the untidiness of others. But I wouldn't expect you to understand that.
I stash incandescents because I don't believe that ANYONE has the right to tell me what kind of lamps to use, or what I can or can't buy. Heresy, I know, but as long as it's my money footing the bills, I'll buy whatever the hell I want.
