Chicago Teacher on Tax Hike: ‘Give Up the Bucks’
by PubliusThis is what the welfare state looks like. The formerly great state of Illinois, having thoroughly run its budget into the ground, is considering digging an even deeper hole by raising taxes. Exactly the shot in the arm the economy needs!
Of course, public sector unions are in full-throttle support of the tax grab. (No recession for those that live off taxpayers.) On Wednesday, a phalanx of public sector employees, including SEIU, Illinois Education Association, Illinois Federation of Teachers, AFSCME, and AFL-CIO, rallied in support of the tax hike in the capital, Springfield.
This public school teacher, who was likely given the day off to attend the rally, left no doubt about her reasons for supporting the tax hike.
Yes, this woman is responsible for educating some number of your children. Her chant goes to the heart of what’s wrong with our public school system…it is designed for the adults in the system, i.e. teachers and not the children.
The task at hand is even bigger than we feared.

You put up the perfect example of all that is backwards here in Illinois -
Name and school please…
Anyone???
Nothing more disgusting than a public school teacher holding their students as financial hostages.
Illinois? You think its bad there try CA. This is an issue is any state run by Dems. The Dems have created a public employee monster. The schools, prisons, police departments and fire houses are run by the employees for the emplyees and the rst of us are here to finance their early and lucrative retirements.
Its time to start fighting back in a big way.
But, it's "for the children". Cash for Kids.
Parasites.
Sadly to say but you are wrong. Holding the entire nation as financial hostages is even more disgusting.
I stand corrected.
Just keep running these videos of these leeches asking for more hand-outs……..somewhere along the line, even the morons may start to understand what is going on. Well……….maybe not!!!
'Now you got what you want, why do you want more'!!! Bob Marley sang that!!!! And I don't think Marley was a lazy welfare 'victim', either!!! Or a union member!! And he certainly didn't live off of other peoples hard-earned money.
FUBO!!!!!
Our teachers here in Arizona just told the middle school students to "go home and tell your parents to vote YES for prop 100, if you don't we will lose three teachers this year and you will lose your classes."
(Prop 100 is the additional 1-2% "temporary until 2015" sales tax increase to fund schools, we already pay the highest property taxes in Vail, higher than the rest of Tucson area, and we already pay and 8.2% sales tax, prop 100 would effectively move our sales tax over 10%).
Our schools have a long history of miss-using funds, when TUSD was broke several years ago, instead of cutting admin costs, they bought SmartBoards for each class room and cut the bus service for Elementary school students, causing them to cross busy 4-lane roads, and that was just the beginning.)

The trouble I have with the growing tumor of bureacracy (regulators) is that the public sector employs GED's while the private sector hires MBA's.
Getting more regulators regulating more of our economy is a recipe to make the existing inefficiencies even bigger than before.
Private industry will actively root out inefficiencies while the public sector retains the waste.
Unions have been the weight around private sector companies restricting their ability to fire the unproductive. In the public sector they have taken this principle to the next level and made it nearly impossible to fire anyone.
PUBLIC SECTOR UNIONS MUST BE OUTLAWED, this includes the entire concept of tenure.
These people will stop at nothing to destroy anything that helps their people. They have been indoctrinated into this way of thinking through the public school system. Reagan, once told the Russians to" tear down this wall" in Germany.
I say, we tear down this whole school system across America, and let us rebuild so it will Actually works for parents, and the students alike.
God Bless America
I love the sign in the background, "fighting for OUR future". Note that it isn't "fighting for our KIDS future", or "fighting for YOUR future"? I think the sign says it all.
BAN UNIONS!! American citizens have NO RIGHT TO STRIKE!
This just says it all about unions and our public school system. It is disgusting they are teaching our children. We pay their salary and they just keep taking and taking. If this doesn't stop it will just implode. Illinois doesn't have the money but they don't care. They don't care about our children…they are union thugs and need to be stopped. Wouldn't we all like to retire after 30 yrs….possibly be 54 yrs old an retire? Sweet isn't it on our money.
"Where's the money?"… Stupid woman. I'm GLAD she's not teaching my kids.
We should answer her with "Get to work!", or "How many of your kids GRADUATE?", or "Performance Pay! Your kids Graduate, you get paid!… you get the idea.
The cure: Home school.
What's the problem? Obama was elected based on this kind of attitude. In fact, many of his supporters are growing disallusioned that the money isn't coming fast enough. Obama was elected by these people and his supporters believe that because he was elected there should be no objection to increased taxes and they shouldn't have to demonstrate to get it.
In fact, this demonstrator is simply saying in street thug words what Obama has been saying for his entire adult life and continues to say with every speech he makes.
The more these guys talk, the more they expose their sense of entitlement…Keep talking
I'm working at an event Saturday in support of the troops that is going to have Daily and Governor Quinn giving speeches. What do you think the chances are that their bodyguards will tackle me if I give my opinion on the matter during sound-check?
The unions are going to riot like Greece if they don't get their way. It's time to realign these spoiled little chits toward working hard, producing a quality product be it an auto or a student and to stop this intitlement -for -doing- nothing krap.
The clip title says this was in Chicago
Big group of fatty women holding signs getting exercise. They look like they haven't had a ray of sunshine hit them for years nor have they missed having a donut in the break room.
Ill be happy to give you a "buck", if you want to include the other half "shot" with it.
If these people had a job that was dependent on the quality of the product they produced, they all would have been canned years ago. Get some charter schools in there and give these leeches some competition.
Our kids are our future… so yes, that sign says it all.
Sorry, I failed to spell check before posting.
We have the same thing going on in California. Tax payer money is transferred from the working folks to the unions in ever bigger pay and pension benefits. Their pensions are the most generous in the country and are far more generous than anything the working people get.

Get your precious kids Home Schooled , if at all possible. Half of your time is better than a full-time Propogandist!! My grandson is barely one now and i'll be damned if he gets into one of these ill conceived cirriculums!
That should be "Cash for Flunkers"
Im from Phoenix-I think the GOP needs to convince Joe Arpaio to run for governor, in spite of his age. He takes no bull(Napolitano was scared to death of him) and hes got more common sense than all the pols put together.
We should move all taxes to imports.
2/3 of the US trade deficit is oil.
We must get off oil to fix the US economy.
There's nothing wrong the concept of a union. It's just the corruption that goes with it's leadership. Real oversight of unions, pac, lobbying groups etc. must first start with real oversight (including hard jail time) for our elected officials who are corrupt.
An easy fix for this is to not ban the union but ban contributions by public sector unions to political campaigns.
Remember, the unions at one time DID actually have a valid purpose which was to prevent companies from abusing their workforce. I'm don't think that purpose still exists and am certain the current union leadership does not have that that ajenda.
You think Vail is bad….Sierra Vista is worse. I send my kids to private school, so you can bet ill be voting no on Prop 100.
My daughter is in the Mesa School district and we have been blessed by the fact that the schools she has gone to in our corner of the district happened (by luck only) to be among the best in the district and state.
I feel for you though. I too am a firm believer in the voucher system. The fixes our schools need is painfully simple, yet is met with entrenched resistance.
Free Choice is the answer
LOL!!!
It's disgusting how they blatantly use the children in this way. I'm sending my kids to a private, Christian school, where they are getting a far, far better education, and where the teachers make far less money — but they are dedicated to the children, and would never use them in this fashion.
I realize you're being flippant, simpleton, but if you're subsidized by the taxpayer you should have no right to strike.
Agree with the first part but the second part leaves me scratching my head. If you had said "Public Sector Employees" instead of 'American Citizens' I would heartliy agree.
Harsh! Then again, the truth usually is . . .

Excellent suggestion. Then we could chant, "Give us the quality education."
Having attended both public and private schools as a youth I saw the glaring differences in not only the intellectual capacity of the teachers but the content of the classes themselves. In the three years I attended private school, which was prior to my move to public, I learn more and covered most of the materiel in those three years (6th-8th grade) as compared to the last four years (high school) in the public school system. I never had to study, I rarely even had to crack a book so long as I just showed up. The teachers in the public school system are lazy, stupid, and greedy, and this video just proves that point. How dare this pathetic loser demand my money so that she can be continue to not do her job. You want more money then do your god damn job and stop telling me that its my fault for not spending enough on education. I mean how much money does it take to read a damn book and then discuss the implication! Certainly not $10,000 per student.
Great idea. We can power our cars, trains and industrial equipment with pixie dust and unicorn poop. Who needs plastic, rubber, lubricants and all the wonderful products created by oil. We should live like hippies in loin cloths, that would make mother Gaia happy.
i've never posted anything before, but that is hilarious!!!!!!
that wont happen with this president. Great idea though
"Buy my gas and pay my mortgage" to paraprase an obama supporter
I got in an arguement with a school teacher who complained he didnt get a raise this year, only a 3% cost of living adjustment. Isnt that a raise? Not according to the teachers union.
If we could find a way to tax stupidity we would have no deficit
Unions represent the interests of employees against those of their employers. Since we the taxpayers are the employers of public workers, then that means public unions are working against the taxpayers. They're also paid by the dues of the public workers, which are paid by us, the taxpayers. So effectively, public sector unions use our money to get more of our money. Not by making sure that they do their jobs better, or spend money more efficiently, but by using strikes, intimidation and tenure.
This is a bad state of affairs.
The problem is not blacks, the problem is liberals/democrats.
These people completely miss the bigger picture. All they see is what's in it for them. Meanwhile our governments both local and federal are squandering billions and the only solution these twits can think of is to raise taxes as if that will make our governments more efficient!!?!!
Ahhh…the march of the parasites!
Okay do these people not know that raising their taxes will take money out of their pockets? I guess they will get to keep their jobs but at what cost to the rest of the state? Wish they could just raised public sector taxes, of course they can't do that. This is what happens with out of control government spending and no one taking into account the future cost. More states should be like NJ in start cutting unions. Every public sector employee should be moved to a 401k plan for retirement and not these pensions. Most private sector jobs don't have pension so why should we have to pay for government to live the easy life?
Very nice and following the money our at least the source really brings home the point. Thank you for the logic and common sense
two words: Home School….if you can that is…
Show me tremendously improved results before I show the schools more money! Right now the results I am seeing indicates the teachers, and the system is deserving of an F-!

Privatize Everything Especially Schools – Give us Freedom of Choice!!!
Fire all the State Employees (Welfare) that attended!! They are Greedy individuals!!
I would say just in public sector ban unions, private sector run your business your way. Really I think just taking government workers off pension plans for retirement and changing it to 401ks would help the problem of run away debt. Government and tax payers wouldn't be funding these government workers for 20-30 years after they retire their salaries.
Greedy unions!!! Destroying education, businesses, and government one organization at a time.
Private schools teach at a much cheaper cost, graduate far higher percentage of students, and more students go on to college. NUFF SAID! School choice is the answer but Democrats are against such because then they cannot control what your kids learn. Why are Democrats anti-choice on everything but abortion? hmmmmm….
I am willing to bet you that half those marching to steal other people's money wouldn't even be hired by a real school that teaches in the private sector.
Another perfect example of unions and why they are bad for America. With this tax increase we the American working class will be paying for thier 100K plus retirement accounts that they the unions dont put money into, its guaranteed, I and my wife have a 401K and we contribute, WE, my wife and I build up the account for a our retirement, not the american taxpayers. Unions have got to go, USAGREECE anyone.
Work hard.and pay through the nose.Illegal aliens and Union Bosses are depending on you
Unfortunately there are two kinds of Democrat, looters and moochers. There are no others. It is sad that millions of Americans have become dependent upon theft .
TIME TO TELL THE "UNIONS" TO GO SCREW!!!
EARN IT YOURSELF, LIKE THE REST OF US !!!!
BUNCH OF LAZY LEECHES.
These gals all look pretty well fed to me. Why do want more of my money?
yard ape
If these people thought they were going to get rich in education, they are probably too dumb to teach.
Welcome to Amerika.
Why don't these evil looters just cut out the middleman (the IRS) and come to my house, point a gun at my head and rob me because that is exactly what they are doing!
I could go into a tirade about the evils of Public (i.e. GOVT) Education, but instead I'm going to rant on the evils of Unions.
Unions are always bad because they destroy the free will of the individual and replace it with the collective. They make it so anyone who doesn't want to be a Union lackey can't even get a job in some industries and professions — this is the pinnacle of immorality. It hinders free association and undermines individual rights.
Public sector unions are even worse because they are also mooching off of tax dollars while at least private sector union workers are only holding private businesses hostage. These public sector Union people sicken me and I hate that I even have to live in the same country as them.
jungle bunnies
Yeah, but why should we be forced to pay for the public system even as we deliberately go to the heinous time and expense required to keep our kids out of it at the same time?
End the federal Department of Education.
Crush the teachers unions.
Homeschool your children and grandchildren.
Not on my dime. To hell with the Welfare state and its do-nothing constituency. These "teachers" are a bunch of lazy narcissists.
Flippant? ooh, so impolite of me.
People behave a lot worse than "flippant" on this board, so I don't see what the problem is.
Oh wait… its flippant in a particular way that goes against you. okay, that makes much more sense. I guess that's why you insulted me for doing it.
I don't like the idea of banning unions, even public sector unions as I think the decision to belong to a union should be a free choice and that people do have a right to demand better conditions of their employer if they can garner the requisite support amongst their fellow employees. But given the problem we currently have with public sector unions draining the govt coffers dry, I think that banning public sector (not private sector, just public) unions from existing, or at least from striking, is the best alternative available.
She may not be, but how do you know there isn't someone just like her in the system?
This is why we are leaving Illinois.
As noted by StoryKeeper, it's clear you're a troll. Not a single person here blames the mess of unionization on any group other than the unions themselves. We certainly don't see it in terms of race; conservatives tend to care more about a person's character than their color. Any time you want to join us in the 21st century, feel free.
To be fair, our dependency on foreign oil is a serious concern. However, tariffs have a history of causing far more damage to the economy than the solve, and I doubt that putting import taxes on oil will really do more than make energy more expensive.
Lets do away with the public school system all together. Give parents vouchers for private schools, the good teachers will survive the bad ones, there on their own to find employment elsewhere.
Yes.
Yes, its far from ideal!
Ideally, corporations or government would maintain relationships with their employees so that everyone was happy about the deal.
But since we are in the real world…and since the situation amounts to the unpleasantness which you did a good job of describing… do you think that public sector employees should have less rights than private sector employees?
They are ticks, sucking life blood where they can. They want us to be their dogs.
A big problem is that public employees are largely paid according to tenure instead of according to the quality and quantity of their output. Maintaining salary equity between all employees of a given rank and tenure is absolutely critical to being successful in public sector management. This promotes a sense of sloth and entitlement that infects all employees. Other commentators are right: it is nearly impossible to fire a public employee without evidence of gross misconduct.
Love the signs. Everything is "fill in the blank" NOW! And the toad behind her…."Fighting for our future!" Not fighting for children's future. Our future=our financial well being, aka, fleecing the taxpayer for more money for an inferior product!
And to elucidate: since public sector employees are paid not by an employer who can fire them but instead by the money that is forcibly taken from taxpayers by the threat of incarceration, then they should be directly accountable to those taxpayers and should have less rights, not the same and certainly not more, than those of private sector employees.
Does that make my position clear?
I think Oregon has everyone beat on this issue.
I would prefer a Chimp teach my children,Than that Creepy woman!
YES, and if they don't like it they can move to the private sector, though I think many would fail to get hired.
Yes, a very bad state. Much more ideal would be if corporations or the government would maintain the relationships with their employees in a way that was happy and equitable… at least enough so that the employees don't get so frustrated that the resort to a "nuclear option" that a strike of course is. (e.g. "mutually assured destruction")
But, since we live in the real world, that includes the sad state that you articulated so well, let me ask you this: Should public sector employees should have less rights than private sector employees?
I wonder if that would make it past the SCOTUS!
"Save our children!!! Kick out the bums!! A boot up your ass. Yousss neeedsss it fast!!!!"
Yet everyone keeps their children in the system. They don't kill the beast by withdrawing in mass… they don't even save their child by withdrawing just them. Complaint after complaint… year after year and yet ever term back these children go on the big yellow buses to the intellectual abattoir.
The Money isn't for the children…! Alot of times teachers aren't in their classrooms teaching….
Actually the teaching is up to the parents….have you seen the amount of homework parents have to help
their children with nightly…?? Wouldn't we all like to hardly work…and get a whole summer vacation..!
Now this isn't true of all teachers….some do care about the kids education…but more so than not alot of them
are just lazy and dont teach..!
really? take rights away from people because they work for uncle sam?
Hey wait a minute… aren't our brave men and women in uniform also "public sector employees"?
Should they have less rights too? Are you serious?
The ban on contributions has been tried a couple of times here in Oregon and guess what?? The unions spent millions to defeat the initiative.
ever = every
Yes, give it to the states to regulate, no strike that, give it to each community to decide.
