Sen. Coburn Vows To Block Special Deals for House Members Who Switch Obamacare Vote from ‘No’ to to ‘Yes’

SEN. TOM COBURN (R), OKLAHOMA: I want to send a couple of messages to my colleagues in the House.
If you voted no and you vote yes, and you lose your election, and you think any nomination to a federal position isn’t going to be held in the Senate, I’ve got news for you. It’s going to be held.
Number two is, if you get a deal, a parochial deal for you or your district, I’ve already instructed my staff and the staff of seven other senators that we will look at every appropriations bill, at every level, at every instance, and we will outline it by district, and we will associate that with the buying of your vote. So, if you think you can cut a deal now, and it not come out until after the election, I want to tell you that isn’t going to happen. And be prepared to defend selling your vote in the House.

I was down in Oklahoma in August,and heard Coburn speak at a Town Hall meeting. I was impressed with his honesty, integrity, and straight-forward manner.

I wish this had been done by a group on the first go round of the health care bill and we wouldn't have wasted 6 months, on this ridiculous project ,forfeiting any interest in so many other things of importance. Because you are such a "stand up" kind of a guy, maybe now others will take note and follow your lead.
That is a process that should be extended from heath care to government contractors, education, road building and every other aspect of spending the money we taxpayers put into the federal government. Maybe this can put the fear of God into the republicans as well…

I agree Karen, I'm happy he has taken this stance and vocalized it, yet I sit here and see all of us so happy that someone is finally doing something they should have been doing all along! It doesn't take away the pleasure of seeing this transpire, but as you have said, it's certainly taken many of us away from other things in our lives as we watched day by day hoping somebody would stand up. I have no doubt that there have been many stealth deals made. I truly hope that there are people of integrity who will bring these deals to light even if they don't hatch until a year or two after they have changed their vote!

Yeah, I've lived in Oklahoma all my life, and I've never got used to the Summers. They're remarkably hot, and able to maintain high humidity for months without ever raining. Okie Autumns are fabulous, though.

My plan is to buy a small (probably bank owned) home that I can buy cash (maybe $45K-$70K) to start with which will be a big change from the beautiful mountain view 2333 sq/ft 2006 built home I have now. To get a house in that range (based on homes there I have been looking at on Realtor.com) it looks like I will end up in South OKC or NW OKC just East of Lake Hefner. That will leave me with enough cash left over to start a small business or flip another bank owned home to rebuild my finances. Eventually I'll probably get out of the city to one of the burbs like Moore or Edmond.
Doing this will eliminate my last debt (mortgage) so Obama and his fellow socialist will have fewer means by which to control my freedom. It's a sacrifice, but in the long run I think it is the right move, I'm basically "Going Galt".

I was once used to hot humid Summers originally being from Cape Cod Massachusetts (my home state), but I have lived in Western WA (about 20 mls north of Seattle) since 1993 where Summers see very few days in the upper 80's/low 90's and despite all the moisture here the Summers are not humid. I tell people I have been sissified by the weather here as I can no longer stomach the occasional hot Summer day or occasional below freezing Winter day. You don't even need A/C here in the Western part of the state, but I know you can't live without it down there. But looking at weather "norms" for OKC it looks like you have better Spring and Fall weather than we have here with similar Winter weather (excluding this past Winters bizarre snow and cold down there) so over-all I think I'm trading up. As far as freedom, self reliance, few social programs, conservatism, low taxes and moral God fearing people I KNOW I'M TRADING UP and I can't wait to get there! Oh, and I recently purchased a 2005 F-150 and a cowboy hat so I'm ready to fit in minus the southern accent. ;o)

I think I'm a little more worried about the critters you have to be on the look-out for down there like; the brown recluse spider, scorpions, bIack widows, rattle snakes and such. You don't really have to worry about anything here unless you go into the woods and get mauIed by a bear or cougar, but you don't have to worry about them coming in your home or snuggling up under your covers or in your shoes.

You should enjoy the house flipping, if there's any market. The prices for large items
like windows & doors were much cheaper in Okie City than in Texas Hi Plains. I once
drove to OKC (abt 5 hr) to pick up an atrium door & saved $500 on the deal, even after
gas. That was before internet shopping was born. Anyway, after that deal I always
called that home improvement center in Edmond when I was price shopping for large
items.

You can get a little more bang for your buck if you get further out – we're in Lexington/Noble area and the commute isn't too bad to the City and Norman is just a hop and a skip away. I also tend to favor the distance from the city because I think if the crap hits the fan and there is any type of civil unrest, I'd rather be farther away from the larger city areas. Land is very reasonable out here – we got our place 4 yrs ago (a forclosure) 2200 sq feet, 7 acres and a few outbuildings including a 50 X 100 steel barn for 95,000

My main goal is to get into an existing franchise business (I'd rather not name it because they don't have one in OKC and I eventually want to be that first franchise there), but I told the company that I obviously can't buy into their franchise until I actually move to OK, but I would also probably hold off until conservatives could take back control of our government, because like already existing small businesses, I don't want to risk my savings under the rule of anti-capitalist socialist. In the mean time I could flip a house or two. I've noticed homes seem to be selling much quicker there than here and even if I made only $10K-$30K on a flip that money would go much further there than here in WA State, especially when I'll own my home outright with no mortgage, I would be completely debt free so all money coming in could be saved or reinvested.
I just hope that the people who flee the socialist states, like the one I am in, for states like Texas and Oklahoma are conservatives like me because I don't want to flee a socialist state only to have a bunch of socialist do the same thing and turn the good conservative states into the mess we left. In the end I think that may happen. These libtards keep stealing from we producers to the point of where we can no longer take it, but after we move, initially to their delight, they eventually come to realize that without our hard work and money that their social programs dry up. They know at that point we will not come back and subsidize them so eventually they will move to red states where they can become leeches once again until they can kill their new host.
LOL, it seems like a different world in terms of cost of living from WA to OK. Heck I put $70K down on my house when I bought it and I still owed $270K more and even though my house is very nice it sits on a postage stamp sized lot. I wouldn't even want to buy a house as expensive as my current house down in OK. because down there that kind of money would buy a mansion that I could'nt keep up by myself. Your property taxes are also ridiculously low compared to here, I pay around $4,500 in prop taxes alone per/yr, I'd have to live in a 4,000 sq/ft home on 5-acres down there to pay that much. I know that the money people make there is also lower, along with the lower cost of living, but by bringing what money I've made here down there, along with having no mortgage, I should be able to do very well if our country isn't completely destroyed by the Commies before the conservatives can regain control.

He has the votes, he is staying in town to sign the Senate bill right after the House passes it. Allowing Senate will take up the fixes under reconciliation immediately instead of waiting for him to return. This bill will be law come Monday.
