There simply is no other way to explain the statements of White House Chief of Staff Jacob Lew this morning on CNN's State of the Union. Lew was asked by Candy Crawley about a recent statement by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid indicating he would not be bringing a...

The Quiet Man is one of my all timefavorite John Wayne movies.
Guinness is my Favorite Beer!
St Paddy's day is my Favorite excuse to throw a party!
I hope there is something to party about this weekend…
I do love Guinness, gotta go with Harp tho…
Barack O'Bama=SHAM-rock
The libs are trotting out the "little girls dying of cancer because they have no insurance" props again. I'm sick of the guilt trip tripe. My charity only goes so far. Premiums and taxes are going to skyrocket. This is the most personal piece of legislation that I have ever experienced. It affects most people in a VERY personal way, and the lib idiots want to use magic trick legislation to get it passed?
They have NO idea how mad we are.
Maureen O'Hara was one beautiful and classy lady.
wldbil,
Forget Crown (sorry) and Jameson. Try John Powers, it is the #1 selling whiskey in Ireland (last I heard) and it is my VERY favorite of all except Middleton (which is very $$$).
A leprechaun at an irish pub in Las Vegas who was tending bar taught me how to properly driunk Irish Whiskey, and converted me from scotch that day. I've had cases of Powers, and my expensive scotches sit gathering dust.
I was taught this…
John Powers, neat with an ice water back
Sip some powers, hold it on your tounge until it warms and take a tiny sip of icewater…
it all turns to sugar as you swallow.
AND I've never had a hangover from Powers this way…
PS – I actually had correspondence once from"Wild Bill" Guarne (I know I ma mis-spelling hislast name) who lost his leg in Normandy with the 506th PIR…
Happy St. Pats day sir!
Badly is my guess.
Last time I saw a politicial on a collision course with history like this administration it was Saddam as he threw out the inspectors and defied the world to knock the chip off his shoulder.
Some guy from Texas took up his dare thankfully…
I can't believe they are so completely ignoring the populace on this one.It is very odd and disturbing.
Yes I suspect it will end very badly, but I also think even if they force it through it will not really be "over" yet.
Thank you for the info David, I will look into this John Powers of which you speak with great curiosity.
Happy St. Patty's to you as well sir…
Their strategy is analogous to pouring petrol around the house while touting it as a way to save your house from fire. Happy St Patricks day, we could use a man who can cast snakes out.
David I'm trying to be hopeful but it is me nature to prepare for the worst…
Though I do take heart in the fact, the great one has chosen to bless Fox News with His presence this evening as a sign of weakness…
The Irish resisted English Tyranny for 950 years for Free Ireland & are still resisting the interlopers in Ulster. & Wolfstone is one of the Founders of Modern Free Ireland He was NOT Catholic.
As to Expensive, my $250 bottle of Middleton is the single most exquisite taste I've ver had on my tounge. It is amazingly good.
I wish I was rich so I could drink it more than one ot two shots per year as a treat for something significant in my life worthy of celebration.
Middleton is drank like this. Siped from a shot glass with nothing but air as a back. AMAZING…
Many Irish people have English ancestors. A lot of the English who settled in Ireland from the Middle Ages onwards intermarried with native inhabitants. And this occurred not only in Ulster but in other parts of the island.
The Irish are a mixed breed, including ancestors from Iberia, English, Normans, Vikings, Scots (some of whom had earlier migrated from Ireland to what is now Scotland) and a smattering of Celts.
And are you referring to Wolfe Tone rather than "Wolfstone"?
We need a modern day St. Patrick to cast the snakes out of Washington. Of course, the town would be deserted, but I could live with that.
On of my very favorite things in life is to enjoy a fine cognac and occasionally an elpresidente or cohiba cigar from Cuba, with a Louis XIII cognac after a fine meal.
I've only done this a couple times but they were truly memorable experiences…
Big Hollywood certainly doesn't make 'em like that anymore…
So the President is being interviewed on Fox News tonight. A little Barack O'Blarney on St. Paddy's Day for us all.
Can't disagree with any of that Dave, here is hoping we as Nation get off our as*es and do something about it.
Every citizen should be a soldier. This was the case with the Greeks and Romans, and must be that of every free state.
Thomas Jefferson
@wldbil – Check out Jefferson's "war service." He's venerated in our history for his written contributions and other actions, but whenever fighting broke out, he was elsewhere. I find nary a thing in our history about TJ ever taking up arms and getting in Harm's Way.
True, he would have been hung with the rest of the rebels we hadn't won, and I'll give him that, but without Rousseau, et al, from whom he derived much of his famous writing, and those brave men who fought, he wouldn't occupy the exalted position he now holds.
Living all my 65 years in
TedBrownachusetts I love St. Patrick's Day. This year we all have an excuse to get drunk. Before you get loaded, or maybe after, watch my video:Mad Hatter: Twinkle, twinkle, little Barack! How I wonder what you're at
(If Ted doesn't have a line through it (strike), it was supposed too.)
For some unexplained reason, I cannot get through to my Congressunit, Gerry Connolly. His various phone numbers on his website are all either constantly busy or all his voice mail boxes are full.
Gee! I wonder why?
I'd try faxing, but my fax would likely be in "retry" mode all day long.
I'll try his email, but I suspect the servers handling Congressunits' email queues are all backed up or crashed.
Erin go Bragh.
He will get treated with kid gloves.
Back in the fifties on the south side of Chicago,….St Patrick"s Day was a day of celebration for all nationalities,………
The nation was so much more unified and one back than.
Today I no longer feel the same way about this day,……..Maybe it is only fitting that on this day,…….
the most divisive man we have ever had for president should go on FOX.
Perhaps he was brilliant enough to recognize that he wasn't good at leading men in battle. The European concept was simply because your were wealthy and from a powerful family you should be an officer. This is one of the reasons we kicked John Bulls Butt!
Happy St. Patrick's Day to Everyone in BigWorld….Caed Mille Failte ! ….Erin Go Bragh !
…"I'll have one of them black beers…" – John Wayne as "Sean Thornton" ordering his first Guiness in "The Quiet Man"
To all my "Irish friends" Erin go Bragh

"May the road rise to meet you, May the wind be always at your back, May the sun shine warm upon your face,
May the rains fall soft upon your fields, And until we meet again, May God hold you In the palm of his hand."
Slainte!
I've made up my mind that I won't watch the interview….He will not only be
treated with kid gloves, but all he'll do is spew out propaganda!…I've had
enough of that clown….
Obama on TV? Now that's a reason to drink.
Heavily.
It's "TheRightSide's" birthday today….. (bowing to clamoring applause and good wishes) ! How did I get so fricking old ? March 17, 1947 ! Good God !…ahhahahahahaha
Never tire of seeing this wonderful movie, with its equally wonderful,grown-up cast . We'll be watching it today!
My 17 year old daughter is an Open Champion Irish Dancer here in North Texas. There is only one time a year that anyone wants her to perform and today's that day. She will be dancing at 6 different locations today, whew! Irish Dance is a really beautiful artform. At feiseanna (feshanna) or singular feis (fesh) they usually have accordion players or fiddlers that the kids dance to. Often during a lull or if there's a problem they will start playing the "trouble theme" from The Quiet Man and everyone loves it.
Pedrosito – Maureen O'Hara "IS" one classy lady. She will be celebrating her 90th birthday on August 17th. I am her archivist and edit and design her official web page "Maureen O'Hara Magazine." If you'd like to see some current photos and information about her, please Google "Maureen O'Hara Magazine" – do a little scrolling and you'll find information about her, her family, her career and what's she's doing now.
I'm not a smoker, but I did really enjoy 2 glasses of 30 year old Maccallan Scotch and a "Macanudo" (Probably mis-spelled – sorry) with some buddies one time. we just sat around and BS'd the evening away.
TOTALLY COOL!
Now that is a GREAT update from Hollywood.
You Go June!
Please convey to Ms O'Hara that we love her, and I've had "it" for Red-Heads at least partially due to watching her in so many movies as a young boy… And I prefer feisty women, also partially due toi her roles.
May your birthday be a happy one
I've been watching the old movies again mostly due to I can't stand preachy libtard actors, and they are so much better acting, story, and just in general better.
And the Values were so different as it feels like Hollywood has become an alien planet.

Thank you for your kind comment…. I appreciate it !
Oddly, I was thinking about "The Informer" this morning, what with George W. Bush having recently agreed to help out the administration in Northern Ireland and that movie being so clear about the troubles in the 1920s and the need for forgiveness among the warring sides, but this is fine, too.
There's three films here (at least) if you want to talk about the "Quiet Man." I think Ford did it to complete everything he had wanted to do in "Hangman's House" but couldn't due to technical limitations–how much he did accomplish in the older film strikes home when you realize it plays like a modern movie, even though it was made back in the "reeler" days.
McLaglen was the star in that and Wayne just an extra (look for him cheering on the horses and behind the blindfold of one of the ghost in the fireplace). That's an additional reason to enjoy the big fight at the end of "Quiet Man," done at a time when Wayne's star was ascendant and McLaglen's not yet faded too very much. Then there is O'Hara's stunning performance, Mildred Natwick balancing aristocracy and plain humanity very nicely, and Barry Fitzgerald's twee as well as his brother Arthur's empathy (very different from but yet akin to his Donkeyman role in "Long Voyage Home"). And the main star is Ireland in color, just as Ford wanted it to be.
The third movie would be, believe it or not, "McLintock," made by the children of Wayne and McLaglen, and while not among the best of Wayne's films, still pretty enjoyable, with slight homages to Ford's work in "Quiet Man." As an example, look for O'Hara's comment about "pattyfingers" to the governor (echoing Barry Fitzgerald's use of the same work in "Quiet Man").
Happy St. Pat's Day!
'Tis the day to drive the snakes from Washington, D.C., O'Patriots!
Kiss the BLARNEY stone and have a PINT….wait can you say BEER summit…lol
I believe I'll have a couple of those black beers later myself … might even fire up a cigar on the deck if the weather cooperates.
What we all wish Obama would be: The Quiet Man
Party hearty today. Given where we are today and where we are going as a country; it could very will be the last hurrah.
will…..s/b well sorry
Hey my friend, Happy Birthday ya old fart!
Go drink some green beer and gorge on corned beef and cabbage.
Ah, but was it wasn't a Guinness -it was a porter.
- I´ll try one of those black beers.
- Oh, the porter. Yes, sir.
I have some porter and a fine cigar to enjoy this evening myself. I might even have a Bushmills or two if I want to get my blood up.
Good man yesself, yer Grace !….
…I'll be thankin' ya fer settin' me straight….I had my mind on that wild red-head Katie Danaher and flipped the script… ! ; )
…and now I'll be off to have one or two of them 'black beers' whichever they're pourin' at me pub… ! Slainte !
I'm a fan of both stouts and porters – stouts have a little more body to them, and the taste of different porters can vary widely. But any pub that serves a Guinness on tap is a place I can frequent. If it also has a porter on tap, well, in the movie, you know that character that looks like a retired military man in the bar that just reads the paper and never leaves? That would be me.
I might be from the Wales side ,but…..When Irish eyes are smilin'……hahaha….have a pint for me ,boyos.
Great movie pair, Wayne and O'Hara. They were a good match on the screen. I miss the values and class that they exuded and represented.
Greer Garson for me…. but love Ms. O'Hara, too.
Yes, they were a good team. If you haven't seen McLintock! http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0057298/fullcredits you should.
Cool!
…humming a bit of 'trouble theme'…. "da- da- da- da- da- da- dadadada…"
Congressunit !
brawwhahahahahaha I LOVE IT.
I believe his actions are all calculated.
He is trying to win over those of us foolish Fox News folks who have resisted drinking his "Oneness" Kool-aide…
I am truly afraid at times. There are too many scary moments in history similar to our "Now".
I pray about it, but I also know God allowed his chosen people to be captured and enslaved more than once. I do not think we America is "chosen" but I do fear he may allow us to get what we deserve from our crappy choices and behaviors.
As much as I love and respect this country, we made this mess. As a population we either voted for this bozo, or we chose to "sit it out" rather than vote for the poor opponent because he was "not what we wanted".
Well lookie what we got… We experimented with either "Hope & Change" or passive aggressive vote abstinence and we have this…
I am debating wish Irsh pub in Boston I will have myself a pint.
That was funny…
Absolutely love her – from Esmerelda to John Candy's mother in "Only the Lonely," and Saint Patrick's Day isn't St. Patrick's Day without "The Quiet Man." … And I was surprised to learn about her business life outside of Hollywood. She's my kind of feminist – just get on wtih it without harping about the fact that you're a woman. Let her know how much she is admired!
who is doing the interview?
Professor as you know there were fifty six founding fathers , seventeen of them fought in the war…I believe much of the talk of Jefferson's alleged cowardice was during the nasty campaign between John Adams and himself for the presidency. None the less you are correct, he was deservedly venerated for his intellect and inspiration during the birth of America…
That do be God's honest truth WeePee ;+}
Damn, I thought I was old
Thanks, ya prick…. Your turn will come…:)
Now this is a GREEN event I can get behind. Erin Go Bragh!
Great movie!
My grandmother was a McMillan…………….and married a Flanigan.
I'll probably have to drink a green beer today………………..in her memory.
I spent about two years in Ireland prior to (and around) 9/11 and had lived most of that time on the very street Quiet Man was filmed. If you remember the pub where JW and this character had initiated the brawl, it was the same strip of townhouses in which I stayed and quite nearly froze to death during the second winter in residence, though my rent had been reasonable. It had been so cold on one evening I managed to set the blanket on fire when I rolled against the heater we had bought for the room. The house itself was located across from Danagher's Pub (named after JW's nemesis in the movie) and I miss living in a country where folks could drink alcohol without being harassed for it or looked down upon. Also you could live there without a vehicle and still be considered 'independent'! To sum it up, I would return to Ireland for the mere sake of freedom and common sense. Here in the U.S. we let the automobile industry and the busybodies define drunkenness and thus define everything important. Still I "hate" the Irish but I want to go back and live a "normal" existence. Lastly, St. Paddy's day is one of the few days during which pubs are expected to close in Ireland; whereas in America, St. Patrick's Day is the only day the wrong sort of folks get drunk. Meantime in America the government regulations only serve to reinforce a person's alcohol addictions. Up Mayo.
Or given the conservative nature of BG, would anyone here want to discuss the faults of government regulation in regards to alcohol? I believe that "last call" and the supermarkets' cutoff hours have only encouraged folks to buy more alcohol during a shorter period of time in order to be 'safe'. Supposing Nick Gillespie could help here….
Nothing like celebrating a Saint by drinking.
Not far behind ya pal
I'm hoping you pass me soon… ahhahahahaha Richard here…Florida…
