Its Only Money: Democrats Prepare $100 Billion Jobs Bill for Local Governments

Democrats are set to unveil a new jobs initiative Wednesday that will provide grants to local governments to save or create jobs.
House Education and Labor Committee Chairman George Miller (D-Calif.) will join other lawmakers and mayors to announce a $100 billion program to support jobs initiatives in local governments and municipalities.
“Our goal is to retain or create a million jobs,” Miller said during an appearance on CNBC Wednesday morning. “There’s some very serious concern that the small, good news we’re getting right now on the unemployment figures could be wiped out by what’s going to happen in local governments, if they don’t get some assistance.”
The latest jobs bill will be the latest but arguably the largest jobs initiative Democrats will have undertaken over the past few months, during which they’ve moved several bills in order to spur job growth.
The proposal Miller will unveil will be structured on the existing infrastructure of the community development bloc grant program. Mayors or local leaders will submit grant proposals in the program for funds to save or create local jobs, or to create work-training programs for city workers. The $100 billion allotted by the legislation would fund those local jobs programs.
Read the whole thing here. It is increasingly clear that the Democrats can only grasp the economic forces necessary to create public sector jobs. It is, after all, a pretty simple equation: 1. raise money through taxing or borrowing and 2. give it to other politicians. Easy.
But, not sustainable. Private sector employment produces tax revenue (and tangible things of value), while public sector employment simply consumes tax revenue. Eventually, the Democrats simple math falls apart.

And what happens when the money runs out from the Feds? Oh, those same local governments are right back up a creek with an unsustainable budget. Only this time they've maybe added extra employees so even more will likely lose their jobs.
The only way govt can "save or create jobs" is by getting the hell out of the way and butting out. Letting US keep more of our own money to reinvest always 'helps' (tax cuts for you Libbies).
We didn't believe the last load of crap called a stimulus and now you want to do it again. NOOOOOOOOOO! As each new announcement and pronouncement comes forth from Washington, the American Dream slides further into history, and I get a little more disenchanted.
And when the money runs out the local governments have to raise taxes to keep those people employed?
These people are always proposing things that are unsustainable. Like the idea of paying people to sell their homes at a loss, do they really not understand where that'd go?
Could someone, anyone, show me exactly where in the Constitution that it says the Government has the authority to create jobs, or stimulate anything, for anyone, anywhere?

The democrats have two consistencies. Those on-the-take and fools. This jobs program is a clear support for the critical on-the-take voting block. Much of this $100 billion will find itself donated back to the democrats via SEIU. Pure kickback/pay to play economics.
I hope they keep this up, and everyone can Cloward Piven (whatever Beck talks about) the federal government to the point of useless.
This will help speed up the NECESSARY and INEVITABLE depression. Bring the pain, sooner rather than later.

When the money you use is either taken from the real wealth producers (aka private sector workers), you don't really "save" or "create" jobs. In fact, government jobs at any level exist solely as parasites on the backs of all the private sector employees being taxed. Government produces nothing and neither does it earn anything.

The main flaw with the president's plan is to put a goal on how many jobs he wants to "create or save", the goal should be to save all current new jobs and create new ones, that is an actual measureable metric. I can say I "created or saved" as many jobs as there currently are in the economy because there is no way to prove otherwise. I don't think we have ever had a president that uses so much trickery with his everyday language.

Oh my God. Our government is goint to spend 0ne-hundred-billion (100,000,000,000) dollars to save or create one million (1,000,000) jobs. That is $100,000.00 per job created or saved. Who in the name of hell is going to save us from our government? The sad thing is that this amount will be become much larger over time as we have to pay principle and interest against this borrowed money, and then the bill for this is placed squarely on the backs of the already overburdened American taxpayers. We are being forced to pay a diarrhea of continuing expanding debt which can only serve to impoverish all of the American People. It is time for the Declaration of Independence to become operative again. We no longer have a representative government responding to to the will of the people. How about an agreement, in spirit with the recent "pay-go" charade, to help save or create 1 million local government jobs by eliminating 1 million federal and state jobs, or at least by eliminating $100 billion in federal spending to pay for this? In this manner, SEIU and AFSCME would not be rewarded by protecting their members from the same risks of unemployment which all other Americans already face. Instead, there would be less power and money in Washington and more control of the government spending at the local level.

I disagree with the blanket statement that government can't create sustainable jobs. They create positions when they create agencies. That having been said, I agree that less government is better and that job growth should be left to the private sector. Government's role in this is to get out of the way, reduce regulations, restrictions and taxes and instead of this $100B jobs bill, how about making $100B in low to medium risk small business loans at preferred intrest rates with the stipulation that all employees of the companies be based in the US until the loan is re-paid.
Don't tell them that they can't grow cotton. It's too cold there.
