There simply is no other way to explain the statements of White House Chief of Staff Jacob Lew this morning on CNN's State of the Union. Lew was asked by Candy Crawley about a recent statement by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid indicating he would not be bringing a...

I got to visit the Alamo last year while visiting my girlfriend in Texas. One of the coolest experiences of my life. You can feel the history in that place. Bullet holes everywhere. Grafitti from the time period carved into the stone… just really cool. I never expected it to be smack dab in the middle of downtown San Antonio like it is though.
2 thumbs up for the River Walk too.
The story of the Alamo is one of the greatest stories of sacrifice in American history. If you are in San Antonio and have a chance to see "13 Days of Glory" at the IMAX at the River Center Mall, you should absolutely see it – must viewing for all.
Side note: when wild animals are cornered, they do aggressive and crazy things. If congressional democrats become convinced they are going to loose in November and loose big, what aggressive and crazy things will they do?
One of the great stories that has been taken out of the history books!! We need to take back our education system!!

I went to the ALAMO in 78 on my drive back home from Los Angeles to Boston. I had to see the shrine of this glorious battle of my boyhood watching Fess Parker and John Wayne. The place was a living Shrine for Heroes. I hope to go there again and really see it this time at the age I am now. We Americans have the greatest history and we can't allow the malcontents to re-write it in favor of all of our enemies

Been to Gettysburg and Antietam recently and the Alamo is next on my list even though a bit out of my way.
Don't worry, he will when he meets the Mexican President. Don't be surprized if he gives the pres a gift voucher to Taco Bell as a gift.
It sure sounds like a win win situation to me there Jack. … or…
lose lose from our perspective.

God Bless Texas
The Alamo might have fallen to Santa Ana, but it also gave Sam Houston time to regroup his forces and made possible Santa Anas army being routed at San Jancito six weeks later. There IS a lesson we can learn from history that can be applied to even today. ObamaPOS is like Gen Santa Ana, a dictator and a thug. Dont forget, all the men at the Alamo were killed. The same story occured at another small Texas town named Gilead just weeks after the Alamo. The ObamaPOS will NOT take losing lightly. Be prepared, he might try to make his black mooselimb pals the “civilian conservation corps”, just another name for the brownshirts.
or taco bueno….both places I avoid like the plague….
Proud to be Texican. What I love best about the Alamo story is two things:
1) The brave men that died there did not have a death wish. No, they were more likely looking forward to a prosperous life in freedom. When circumstances obviously would not allow that dream to materialize, painful as it was, they knew what their values were and they, like many Americans before and after them, did what was necessary for liberty to endure.
2) A small number of people can change history through the assertion of their God given rights and morals. I wonder what it's going to be for us today?
One of the Great Stories of America's pioneering history
November 2010 ends the siege in Washington DC!
A nation comprised of lots and lots of wimps, whiners, progressives and girlie-men.
Next visit hit the surrounding missions that are still up and open to the public. You will even get a better feel for the Alamo if you see what it looked like before the battle. It was insane to try to defend that location. The massacre in Goliad is the most forgotten event of the invasion.
The Alamo is a must see in San Antonio but there are several other missions in the city the are very interesting. Try to see them all!

Anyone see the Newsweek Cover this week: "Victory at Last"? It shows the tiniest portion of Bush's head leading off the cover. Newsweek couldn't stand to credit Bush's full face. It is hilarious.
No wonder I never read Newsweek.
Humorous cartoon called "waterboarding for health care" at http://drawfortruth.wordpress.com/category/health...
Ah yes, the massacre at the Alamo, followed by the victory at San Jacinto! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_San_Jacint...
Remember the Alamo….there are some days I miss Texas so much …but these Yankees in Wisconsin are;'t
half bad.For some reason ,I found Vicksburg very moving ,too.Heroism is a lot about being in the right place
at the right time….but those brave men at the Alamo chose to be there for the right reason at the right time,
making a stand to defend their countrymen until an "organized"resistance to tyranny could be mustered……..
and they remain an example for all freedom loving Americans.
Davey Crockett,Jim Bowey….
They are already trying to enact "aggressuve and crazy things".It's their nature as Progressive/Fascicts.

Or a copy of the latest Menuto CD. ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Hanzo
Wimps, whiners and girlie-men are all implicit when using the word Progressive. ;^) ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Hanzo
Hey David, good to see ya'. ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Hanzo
Never follow Progressives! They want only one thing- CONTROL of your life. Fight them and replace them with those that represent "We The People!" HURRY! because Pelosi is working round the clock to create a Socialist State which will be very difficult for Freedom loving pwople to reverse!
You are right about that. Imagine the scene in 1836 if the Alamo was being defended by the likes of Barney Frank, Bill Clinton, Joe Biden, Bill Maher, Keith Olbermann, all under the command of that wild frontiersman, Rachel Maddow.
Hanzo! How are ya!
I dropped my laptop at a security checkpoint, killed the HDD and apparently violated the warrantybecause I was traveling with my laptop… After I fixed it and reloaded all my S/W etc, then I went on vacation in a no internet zone.
But now I am back.
Good to be seen…
AND it is only getting worse! Zero Tolerance gone wacko…
I too visited the Alamo in 05. My wife took me for my birthday as a total surprise. Just pushed me on a plane and I didn't even know where I was going. She knew I always wanted to see it. Yes it is surrounded by the city of San Antonio… but it is Texas law that no building may cast a shadow on the Alamo. It is truly a memorable and humbling experience. If you look around you can still find some of us that are willing to do what it takes to remain a free people. Texas is where I will go if things come to that. I would be proud to stand with Texas.
Talk about the gang that couldn't shoot straight!Texas would be a part of Mexico, if those raving lunatics were in charge of Independence.Madcow is definitely the most masculine of the group, ;^)

AND yet another reason I home school my kids.
Next year I will teach my 11 year old daughter how to hunt, with a bow and with a rifle… Because she wants to learn, and because it is an important skill we should all know how to do.
Love the Alamo, lived in San Antonio for 3 years — after I joined the Air Force Medical Corp (not corpse!) and was stationed there at the age of 45 to help with the Iraqi Freedom.
Never thought we'd find ourselves in our own Alamo against Socialism in this country. This time, though, there are far more of us than there are of them and they are on defense! We shall prevail.
There was no surrender then and neither will there be surrender now. We The People will not lose.
WE are not going to let the commies win. We are willing to die for freedom…..They will loose! OTP!
You can almost hear the gasps of horror from the progressives at the very thought of teaching such skills to a child when there is so much to learn like songs in praise of Obama or how to apply condoms to cucumbers or what a scourge the USA is to the world.
Ya, the Mexicans almost got lost until they found the highway.
The fact that the Alamo is located downtown shocked me also… I had this romantic vision of it being up on a hill top somewhere. But, having said that, it is a magnificent place to visit.
Read about the line in the sand if you haven't yet. Davy Crocket had to have his bed carried across. The purpose was to delay the Mexican Army until Texans could get there. The US was created by 13 colonies. Texas won it's independence all by it's lonesome. No US troops. Didn't want war with Mexico. Read about Goliad. War is about killing people and breaking things. March after Goliad. The Alamo. Battle of San Jacinto
"The Alamo City" is my home town. Been to every State, all over Europe, Asia, many Pacific Islands, and Central America… only to return home. Took me thirty years to figure out nowhere else could ever feel like home to me.
Best part? My first gig back in San Antonio was at the Menger, right on Alamo Square. God has a sense of humor.
That is when we start the process of breaching the walls. Once we get in, we cannot let up, we must not allow the statists and progressives to retreat to the keep and keep us at bay long enough for interest to wane. If we do not exterminate this poison, they will emerge stronger and smarter than ever and our children will be faced with dealing with the same set of problems. This statist mindset will always be present, we just have to root it out of positions where it has a direct influence in the affairs of the country.
Since Obama, Reid, and Pelosi have sounded the "degüello" in regards to their need to enact National Health Care. November 2010 will be their San Jacinto Day.
Our whole country is under seige from within!!! But we can not let HER fall !!!!
There's no basement at the Alamo!
No, he's going to give him something he can really use. Leather bound transcripts of all of Obama's speech. In Portuguese.
If Obama were in charge during the attack on the Alamo he would have given up immediately or offered the Alamo and anything else they wanted to Mexico. He would not have considered those brave men heroes. He would have thought them fools. So sad! As a Texan by choice for the last 33 years, I am proud of the Alamo, San Jacinto, and all the places that helped make Texas what it is today, a really great state where self-reliance and strong moral values are still valued by most citizens.

I am a sixth generation Texan and the Alamo is very special to me. My ancestor, Captain Jacob Eberly, fought in the very first battle of the Texas Revolution, what is called "the skirmish at Gonzales". Santa Anna was the Mexican dictator who was usurping more and more of the Texas colonists' rights. He sent soldiers to take away their cannon at Gonzales. The Texans made a flag with a picture of a cannon on it and the words "Come and Take it" and proceeded to fire the cannon at Santa Anna's troops, driving them back to San Antonio. That was the first shot of the Texas Revolution.
We Texans did not tolerate dictators then and we do not tolerate dictators now. My tea party sign said "Come and Take It". Remember the Alamo. Remember Goliad. Thank you, Captain Eberly. As the letter from Travis from the Alamo said, " We will never surrender nor retreat. Victory or Death." Every year as a child I marched with the Girl Scouts in the silent parade in front of the Alamo as they read each name of each Alamo hero.
Santa Anna was not imposing laws as dictatorial as President Obama is today. Come and Take It.
????1943, are you sure about Davy Crockett being bed ridden at the Alamo? I thought it was
James Bowie.
I was gonna' say a copy of the latest CD from that b!tch J.Lo, but at the time I forgot her name. ;^)
~Hanzo~
That's awesome, David. My children are also homeschooled and the differences, not only in scholastic endeavors but social behavior, are astounding between them and their friends who are, unfortunately, schooled under the deviant auspices of the public edjamukashinall system.
I try my best to also steer the kids who are friends with my kids. It's not that they're bad kids, they just have no standards to live up to.
)Hanzo(
Hanzo,
You are SO RIGHT! My wife and I closely monitor who they gilrs hang out with because they pollute their brains (and worse attitudes). My 11 year old has been playing Violin since 5 with private lessons, her 9 year old sister and she BOTH play piano, and the younger one is very gifted there so now she has private lessons for piano. the both sing in a girls ensemble from the same music studio where they take lessons. They are VERY social and socialized, they just don't exhibit the bratty behaviors of Gubmint Scool kids. They LIKE Math, they like history, they like understanding the current events (I suspect they can tell you the difference in progressive, liberal, conservative, etc).
The kids they do hang out with, I tend to "adopt" at leas a bit and make sure they are exposed to some of the dritical real world knowledge they need to know.
I am thrilled with the results, academically, socially, and characterwise we are achieving from home-school. It helps my wife is amazing at this role as well.
A few words from my 1906 copy of Pennybackers New History of Texas By Ann & JH Pennybacker: this
is a textbook that has been handed down in my family, of which I am the current custodian. From the
preface; No occasion should be lost to cultivate true patriotism; this means not the blind egotism that
asserts our state to be without blemish but the wise love that sees all faults, and seeing resolves to cor-
rect the same. March 2nd and April 21 should never pass without some exercise that tends to make our
youth revere and honor the men who made those days immortal.
William Barrett Travis, born in NC, had been raised in Alabama. As a teacher in Alabama he studied law,
married one of his students and they came to Texas where he practiced law at SanFelpe. He died at the
Alamo, age 27, leaving a wife, son and daughter as survivors. These are a few words from his last letter;
I am still here, in fine spirits and well to do. I shall continue to hold the fort till I get relief from my country-
men, or I will perish in its defense. Take care of my little boy. If the country be saved I may make him a
splendid fortune; but if the country be lost and I should perish, he will have nothing but the proud recollec
tion that he is the son of a man who died for his country.
A few words from the speech he gave his men before Santa Anna's assault;
And when they shall storm our fortress, let us kill them as they come. Kill them as they scale our walls!
Kill them as they leap within! Kill them as they raise their weapons, and as they use them! Kill them as
they kill our companions, and continue to kill them as long as one of us shall remain alive! And be ass-
ured our memory will be gratefully cherished by posterity till all history shall be erased and all noble deeds
shall be forgotten.
Our business is not to make a fruitless effort to save our lives, but to choose the manner of our death.
A great history of a great State. Now just think if the Feds have their way it will soon belong to Mexico Again.
Secure the border/ No amnesty

The Alamo is not a place, it is a state of mind. Let the Deguello sound!!
The road to San Jacinto begins at San Antonio de Bexar.

Davey Crockett,Jim Bowey….
In other news, the state of Texas has fallen to the progressive/liberal/democrat minority…They still have a ways to catch up to the insanity that is CA, but they are well on their way.
Doublespeakweek…I remember being in 6th grade and the teacher bringing newsweek magazines for 'social studies'…great propaganda tool then and now.
The atmosphere at the Alamo makes it a "Holy Place" and only those that have been there have a clue as to what I'm talking about. The same atmosphere exists at the Arizona Memorial in Pearl Harbor….and it's even stronger….even though the men there were more victims of circumstance than intentional martyrs.
One should see both.
BTW, the only "foreign shrine" that comes close is Suicide Cliff on Saipan (I know, we own it). The last time I went to show a friend, and when we arrived the place was FULL of Japanese Tourists. It was strange walking through a crowd of short Japanese tourists (especially since we were a head taller than most and stuck out like a sore thumb). Everyone was very polite.
If he does that, he'll never be allowed back in this state. You think Vegas is mad right now? Let Obama try that one. The Governor would put a warrant out for his arrest. I'm not sure what for, but I'm sure Perry would make up something.
You read?
The bus leaves in 2 hours.
Cosmo, you were my favorite character on "Seinfeld." Who would have imagined bumping into you here.
Not a bad idea — returning it to Mexico, that is.
Yeah, Crockett was executed by Santa Anna's men after the Alamo had already fallen. If you can't get to San Antonio, a decent version (although dramatized) of the events is the more recent "Alamo" film with native Texan Dennis Quaid. It's relatively accurate.
Best line from the film is: "I humble myself before God, and there the list ends."
However, it's unclear that Sam Houston ever spoke those words. Still, it's a great line.
Eighteen minutes.
Maybe that should be the Tea Party's new battle cry until election day. Nobody on the left will understand what it means. Cause' hey…when is the last any of them learned anything from history?
Just visited the Alamo a few weeks ago. Awesome stuff.
Texas rules.
Saturday Open Thread: Alamo Edition by Publius: Today, in 1836, the Alamo fell after a 13 day siege.
Then comes Obama, Marxism, and the anti-messiah, according of Karl Marx!
Every year on March 6th, I remind my two sons about the anniversary of the fall of The Alamo. It's a story worth remembering for anyone who loves liberty and freedom.
What am I missing about the basement comment? That's the second time someone said that today regarding the Alamo.
This Indiana yankee admires Texans and Isralies, because they have a common charateristic. They don,t eat any crap. They stand up for what,s right, even if they stand alone.
Another Iraq success story thanks to GWB

Glad you enjoyed your visit! The River Walk IS cool. Next time, check out a play at the beautiful and historic Majestic Theater in the area.
Regarding a few of the comments about the shock of seeing the Alamo located in downtown San Antonio:
I know what most people actually meant, but just for the few who might not: The Alamo was NOT located in busy, modern, downtown San Antonio. Busy, modern, downtown San Antonio has built up around the Alamo.
Granted, though, it IS a shock to see such an historic site located in the center of the 5th largest U.S. city.
The film, The Alamo, with John Wayne, was actually filmed in Brackettville, Texas southwest of San Antonio, in a county which borders Mexico. North of that town is Alamo Village, built in the 1950s as the set of John Wayne's movie The Alamo. Scenes from the 1969 comedy Viva Max! were shot here, too. Alamo Village is now closed to the public but is still available for film production and special events.
San Antonio puts on her finery during the Christmas holidays, when the downtown and river walk are lighted. There is a huge decorated tree in Alamo Plaza. Very festive.
Congrats to you for marrying such a woman!
From your keyboard to God's ear.
Ray, that is funny! Yo quiero, Taco Bell! Arf…arf….
Imagine the SHOCK of the poor tourist who urinated on the wall surrounding the Alamo a while back.
Jailed, and in a hurry!
Nope. Don't even own a white hanky.
Glad you're one of us now!
That's the difference with the folks in charge today. They would consider being at The Alamo a case of being in the "wrong place at the wrong time."
Neither you or anybody else. Their subscriptions are way down.
Good bloodline! A very good comment that I enjoyed reading.
Fallen, you say! Not in a pig's eye!
Some of the big cities, usually the ones with universities are more liberal than the rest, but Texans are NOT predominantly Democrat and not predominantly liberal! All the libs moving in from California and other lib states a while back may have affected some communities, but not TEXAS!
Quite the opposite.
God bless the heroes of The Alamo. God rest their souls.
Texans are still among the few I have ever met who would die for their state if necessary.
For the country – of course, but for our great state, too.
Oh, I feel all warm and fuzzy reading these "Texas rules" posts, especially since many of them come from non-Texans! You know, there are Yankees who get it, and Yankees who just don't… every time I meet one who does my hope is renewed!
The Kingston Trio – one of my very favorite groups.
Popular ahead of my time, but I came to know and love their music fiercely.
Those guys could SING!
No official US troops – there were volunteers (who I assume were inspired by the awesomeness of Texas). The ones massacred at the Alamo (along with the Texan fighters) were from New Orleans (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_San_Jacint... But yeah, Texas rocks!
Good to see you, Thorien!
Are you missing your state?
Thought so.
Keep her safe for me 'til I return, Rancher!
Perry's a skilled politician, for sure! Not entirely sure what to make of him since I'm not living in the greatest state at the moment, but I'll be happy if he keeps putting Washington in its place.
…Great, now I want cole slaw and brisket…
Coming right up!
I will, Thorien. On that you can rely.
We'll be waiting on you.
America is dying. This president is a symptom of the disease. Do you know what your city & county councils are doing? How about your state legislatures, & your Governor? These statist death brigades are turning our children into mental patience. Do you know how many ways that the children in America are under attack by our own government. State schools indoctrinating them to be servants of the state, & turn away from their families. These people are taking our future away from us right now, & no one understands what it is, & how to stop it.
Big government takes away our most precious resources. Over taxation leads to less people who can care for themselves, by keeping jobs. It's a downward spiral. & I don't think very many know how bad it is right now. We have little time left. We must go back to constitutional government.
The infinite human spirit against the finite tyrannies of world governments. Who shall prevail? Life, or death?
If you ever get a chance stand in the surf looking up at the bluffs of the D-Day Normandy invasion.
From the water there's an narrow apron of beach, and then it's up the hills.
Absolutely awe inspiring that young G.I.'s girded up and charged those beaches, then fought their way up those hills.
In the section I was walking there were some German (I could here them speaking) kicking a soccer ball around, a day at the beach. I found that strangely ironic.
Ozzy Osbourne?
