Wednesday Open Thread: Harry Edition
by PubliusToday is generally a day of liberation. Several nations declared independence today. The United States banned the importation of slaves in 1807. In 1861, Tsar Alexander II emancipated the serfs in Russia. Bear with us, but we think this is appropriate today:

Independence must be fought for to be preserved. There are always slave-masters who seek to steal your liberty whenever they think they can get away with it.
Call your representatives today and tell them what is coming for them in November. Tell your family and friends to do the same. Light their damned phones up.
Democrat Culture of Corruption! Poster Child of Rangel. Too many to mention!
"A patriot must always be ready to defend his country against his government."
Edward Abbey
Henry V would have been labelled a racist tea bagger for that speech if the liberal media had been around.
Walter Cronkite would have convinced the rest of England that Agincourt was in fact, a military disaster for the English and that the war with the French was now un-winnable.
Keith Olbermann's head would have exploded when he saw the English archers were all white, although Geraldo Rivera would probably have given their position away to the French by then.
The right of self determination is not given by the Constitution, it is inherent and self evident. Call, write and fax your politicians, let them know this usurpation of power will not stand.
Government, even in its best state, is but a necessary evil; in its worst state, an intolerable one.
Thomas Paine
Pure irony ! The Democrats, libs and leftist radicals seek to continue the enslavement of Americans starting (most recently) with the Great Society by LBJ. One of the greatest frauds ever perpetrated on American citizens by a "free and representative Republic". We are now going to reconstitute this country in the image of the Founders.
So, Libs….. Start packing…. Federal power will be diminished and states rights will prevail. It may take years but it WILL happen. Oh and btw…. You miserable slackers and welfare rats need to exercise a little mental acuity. That means….planning on working for a living instead of being a social parasite.
That speech always makes me teary. Good selection today.
"The main foundations of every state, new states as well as ancient or composite ones, are good laws and good arms you cannot have good laws without good arms, and where there are good arms, good laws inevitably follow."
Niccolo Machiavelli
"Progressives" continue their assault of OUR 2nd Amendment at the SCOTUS, Machiavelli predicts the outcome IF they win.
We must fight ALL of their evil agenda, ALL DAY, everyday…
KING HENRY V:
"This story shall the good man teach his son;
And Crispin Crispian shall ne'er go by,
From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be remember'd;
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition:
And gentlemen in England now a-bed
Shall think themselves accursed they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day".
This speech always makes me think of all of the great Americans who fought and bleed so we could be free.
FREEDOM…… is a 24 / 7……job.
I almost feel sorry for the next Progressive that gets in my face. I'm done with these people.
Dead on, RightSide. Dead on.
When once a republic is corrupted, there is no possibility of remedying any of the growing evils but by removing the corruption and restoring its lost principles; every other correction is either useless or a new evil.
- Thomas Jefferson
It's time America.
America and by extension, the world, hungers for honest leadership. In these dark times, the stage is being set for a return to values and principals. The people are waking up to take back what is rightfully theirs.
yup. I "bait 'em" at school all the time – they wilt and squirm.
Gutless – the whole worthless lot of them.
Are we still allowed to appreciate "Henry V"? It was written by a dead white guy, after all.
i love this movie and this speech so much.
That speech should be required viewing by high school students nationwide as a good example of patriotism, teamwork and leadership. That Shakespeare could turn a phrase, couldn't he? Henry V was always one of my favorites. As we take back our country, let's all try to remember the sentimate shown in this speech.
I "bait 'em' too, but to the point where they make the mistake of laying a hand on me.
Oh yes. Oh yes….
Sometimes people fight for their independence by fighting for the country that rules them. Think India, and oddly enough, Prussia. Great Britain agreed to grant india independence so that Indians would fight against Germany, Italy and Japan in WW2.
During the Napoleonic era, Prussia was soundly defeated in 1806. She rebuilt her army along the lines of a milita of the whole, following the example of France and the US, more or less. In order for this to succeed, the Prussian emporer had to expand the civil rights of the common people. Something he was reluctant to do. But he did, and they emerged victorious.
Hello! If America was serious, it wouldn't have elected an Islamic person as President!
The Bard speaks to the soul. But are there people with no souls?

I like this speech by the charactor William Wollace fitting also.
Too bad the actor giving it is a weirdo but the words still ring true.
For English poets, I find I cannot turn around without discovering something by Rudyard Kipling that describes our current situation with absolute perfection, even across a century (give or take a decade). Written in 1917:
Mesopotamia
THEY shall not return to us, the resolute, the young
The eager and whole-hearted whom we gave:
But the men who left them thriftily to die in their own dung,
Shall they come with years and honour to the grave?
They shall not return to us, the strong men coldly slain
In sight of help denied from day to day:
But the men who edged their agonies and chid them in their pain,
Are they too strong and wise to put away?
Great Britian freed Americas slaves before our war of independence, and slaves were better off behind British lines. African Americans are not slaves, they are people who were enslaved.
And on the other hand look what happened to the Russian people who just rolled over in 1917 and accepted what was happening to their country; look at what happened to them.
Right on Tempus!
Wyoming House Passes Firearms Freedom Act
HB95 includes this principle, and if passed, would impose penalties for violations of the law:
Any official, agent or employee of the United States government who enforces or attempts to enforce any act, order, law, statute, rule or regulation of the United States government upon a personal firearm, a firearm accessory or ammunition that is manufactured commercially or privately in Wyoming and that remains exclusively within the borders of Wyoming shall be guilty of a felony and, upon conviction, shall be subject to imprisonment for not more than two (2) years, a fine of not more than ten thousand dollars ($10,000.00), or both.
All across the country, activists and state-legislators are pressing for similar legislation, to nullify specific federal laws within their states.
A proposed Constitutional Amendment to effectively ban national health care will go to a vote in Arizona in 2010, and the Virginia Senate recently passed a similar bill, which now awaits action from the state house.

I wonder what Henry V would think of all the new wonderful immigrants that Britain is so generously offering welfare too?
That's a specious argument at best.
Just in case someone here hasn't seen this film, go rent it. Right now! You don't have to be comfortable with Shakespeare to enjoy this one. Just let it wash over you, and if you miss a few words don't worry about it. You could follow most of this one if you spoke no English at all, the acting is that good. It's Henry V, the Kenneth Branagh version. It will break your heart and give wings to your hope and your determination, all at the same time.
Please, you guys, if Branagh is BFF with Sean Penn, nobody tell me.
