Scott Brown Joins Democrats to Support ‘Jobs’ Bill
by PubliusFrom the Associated Press:

A bipartisan jobs bill cleared a GOP filibuster on Monday with critical momentum provided by the Senate’s newest Republican, Scott Brown of Massachusetts.
The 62-30 tally to advance the measure to a final vote on Wednesday gives both President Barack Obama and Capitol Hill Democrats a much-needed victory—even though the measure in question is likely to have only a modest boost on hiring.
Brown and four other Republicans broke with GOP leaders to advance the measure. Most other Republicans voted in favor of the filibuster because of strong-arm tactics by Democratic Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada. The bill is likely to enjoy far broader GOP support on Wednesday when it’s put to an up-or-down vote.
The bill featured four provisions that enjoyed sweeping bipartisan support, including a measure exempting businesses hiring the unemployed from Social Security payroll taxes through December and giving them another $1,000 credit if new workers stay on the job a full year.

Ut-oh….
Oh, yeah, I'm hiring someone new for $1K of a tax credit plus SS payroll – that won't even cover my time for the federal/state paperwork to bring on a new hire. That's just the thing, Senator Brown, to convince me that I'm going to have enough new business to justify hiring new employees.
I’m really disappointed about this; he’s already bending to them. Spending money won’t make jobs, I thought he understood this.
Folks its a win win situation. Why u ask? Well because, he said the last stimulus bill didnt create one new job. If he votes for it it will give the gop cover and if it doesnt add jobs he can stand up and defend his statement about no new jobs. This way he can tell the dems, hey you lied to me why shouldi vote for any of your new bills. Look at the big picture not just his vote
Time to fire up a money-bomb campaign to defeat Scott Brown in 2012!
If he won't listen then he is just as bad as the rest of the proggies…
STRIKE ONE.
Thanks a bunch, Scott McCain….
Isn't that special!
Let's DEFEAT Obamacare. It's a TRILLION DOLLAR, abortion funding machine, care rationing, albatross that will effect all of us.
This is a side show.
This guy campaigned on DEFEATING Obamacare & National Security.
This is a side show, a bad bill and a waste of money – but let's keep our collective eyes on the prize – winning back the House and Senate, then taking down Ocommunist in 2012.
After 3 strikes, you'll vote for the next RINO.
The best candidate in the MA race was Joe Kennedy – he was more Republican than Brown even though he ran as an independent.
My name is Scott Brown and I have a problem……"I now believe we can spend our way out of this financial mess were in".
I had hoped he was going to help I know see I was wrong. The only way were gonna come out of this mess is to help small businesses by cutting and slashing taxes, Kill all the useless government agencies and regulations that make it imposable for us to compete with the rest of the world. I don't care who you are Rep/Dem if you vote for something that means you stand for it!!! We as Americans should watch and hold them to there promises and also punish them for there corrupt actions.
"hey you lied to me"? Isn't this one of those fool me twice shame on me situations? Maybe his argument is that the vote was just representing his constituency, but if he doesn't understand that the government doesn't create jobs unless the government gets out of the way (by lowering taxes and regulation) – then please switch parties now because you've just been found out Mr. Brown.
If I was a Mass. voter I'd be fuming right now.
Just saw this on the main breitbart site and all I have to say is BOOOOOOOO!!!
Brown's just another regressive N.E. RINO like Collins or Snowe. I know… what should we expect? Still, it sucks!
Considering he is somewhat of a RINO but the best you can possibly hope for out of Taxachusetts, this bill is being sold as infrastructure speding and tax cut bill. So… it's not THAT bad. This is strike one, though. He's being romanced by the left, i wonder if he'll fall like John McCain. They'll wine and dine him but when it hits the fan, they'll drive a dagger through his spine.
Scott Brown just said: "Yes Massah."
"eyes on the prize" is right…. and the only thing that keeps me sane.
What the phuq was the $800 Billion stimulus for if not jobs? Why do we need another jobs bill? Because the bottom feeding thieves and liars fleeced us for nearly trillion and could barely muster a straight face when they said it was to "help the economy." It was to fill the coffers of the union parasites and wall street whores. Now they're scared that taxpayers are waking up to the fact that they got screwed so Reid and the other leftwing malcontents want to actually throw us a bone in hopes we'll shut up and not notice another raping via nationalized healthcare.
My God, this is indeed the era of stupidity and unbridled govt corruption.
America, vote out every democrat socialist sack of shyt in November.
TRAITOR
This is almost irrelevant compared to whether the GOP will support another Taxachusettes RINO in the Presidential Primaries.
Well, now we know where he is going to stand!!!! I wonder how many more will lie to get elected this year!!!!
We must hold their feet to the fire!!!
So I hire someone, and it costs me tens of thousands of dollars for about 11 months. The guy turns out to be a dirtbag towards the end of this time. He knows that after 12 months, he's gone, so he becomes unproductive. He has now become a little one-man union.
Yeah, I know $1000 isn't much over the grand scheme of things with this scenario, but it is an example of the government getting into things it shouldn't.
MR. Steel, MR. Gingrich, MR. Huckabee;
How's the big tent thing working out for you?
Did you watch Beck at CPAC?
—-"Its not enough to suck less then the other side"
To most of you, it's as if you're truly surprised that anything had actually changed.
The salvation of this country belongs outside D.C. and doesn't have a damned thing to do with what goes on in it.
I reserve my right to withhold judgment for a while.
It's poss he may turn out to be another RINO but it is also poss
he is picking his fight.
Another republican con-man. Immediate following [not before] his acceptance of being elected Senator, Brown informs the national audience he "owes it all to John McCain". Nice, con-job!
Yeah, WHATEVER! I expected this from Brown. Don't misunderstand, I am still glad he won, and I'm not disappointed with this (his FIRST!) vote. Again, I expected (something like) it.
Did any of you really think he was/is conservative? His issue was to stop Obamacare (i.e. "elect me!). Tear the flesh from his bones AFTER he f***'s that one up. He will decide (be persuaded?) shortly as to where "his" interests lie.
Dems will promise to back off in order to buy his (somewhat reliable) vote, and then they will savage his ass in 2012 so as to replace him with another 'bot. Stop Obamacare, that is all he needs to do… Impede the "progress" of the New Socialists for just a little while and you are okay in my book (for what you are) Mr. Brown.
A new day is possible if we work hard for it.
Anybody up for that?
I wouldn't go so far as traitor but ill advised. Scott must always remember that the left are vermin and no legislation they peddle is designed to help the average American.
Yep! He's out if he continues….
he does have some splanin to do but im gonna withhold my judgment for awhile
Full of that Hopey Changey stuff about now.
Probably starting to smell like elephant shyte.
More fuel for the fire…this man was elected through donations that came from across the USA…people wake-up, if they have a R or D behind the name, it equates to LIES LIES LIES LIES.
And many more to come!
Could not have said it better myself Jamesb! And this time this vision is gonna come true! I feel it in my bones!
I'd like to think he is that smart, but after being there for a week, he isn't that savvy.
I think if we start a fund raising campaign committee, to explore recalling him, he "might" change his ways…
I must admit, I was concerned a bit that he would be, being from Mass. and all.
Don't complain when a Senator from Massachusetts votes in a way that you are not inclined to vote. If Republicans could carry their own water in states they should win (North Dakota, Arkansas and Montana for example), things would be different. Having a Senator from Ted Kennedy's seat that is with you more than half the time has to be though of as a bonus.
Who were the other RINO's that voted their re-election away?
UNPATRIOTIC JERKS
Back to the drawing board, conservatives.
I agree with most of what you said except for keeping our collective eyes on the prize. I take that to mean the house and senate. And I even agree with that a little (because the progressives have to go). The prize to me is having honest politicians from different walks of life debating real things and every single one of them backing the constitution. Instead what we have now is a bunch of idiots so far removed from the people they wouldn't know snipe hunting from sheep herding. Corruption and lies are just S.O.P. in Washington. So we have to make examples of anyone who votes for anything that hurts the people. I feel sorry for the people in Mass. that voted for him he just let them down.
They just don't get it….you would think it would like a kindergarten primer! Duh!
I agree to the extent that you have a longer range view of things.
Instead let's USE Brown as a means to an end. Let's leverage him against real socialists and when a solid majority of the kind of people you want are representing US, and I would like to see that soon – we either jettison him or he gets back on the reservation.
Long range – long term sucess…that's the goal.
This year don't wait for anyone to tell you to show up on April 15th in Washington DC….
"WE THE PEOPLE" own that damn mall!
Don't wait for Beck or Dick Armey or Laura Ingraham or Michelle Bachmann….
Don't wait for ANYONE to announce it to you because you'll feel better about going there!!!
GO!!!
This is your chance to do something that has NEVER been done in our history by the American people…
Shut down Washington DC ENTIRELY with five million people!!!
It's time to lay siege to Washington DC!!!
We could be there for weeks!!!
Fire up your email and telephone trees and let's make this happen on April 15th!
He stopped the ObamaCare train in its tracks and you all loved him.
He would never vote for health care reform, TARP or Porkulus.
Now you throw him under the bus? Already? For voting on jobs?
If it doesn't work, then at least it was money better spent than on ACORN or some Al Gore Green Sh!t job!!
Brown BEAT BARRY AND MARTHA and we need to be a little more tolerant of a MA republican. It's a LOT better than having Teddy in that seat!!
This bill is NOTHING compared to the huge spening bills Obama has pushed.
Sheesh.
This made me ill hearing this today. I cannot say that I didn't have a feeling he had that possibility in him. I had heard he had some lib leanings in the state legislature….soooo….here we go! Its not the miracle we had hoped would change in Congress. At least if he holds back on Obamacare…that will help! And maybe his constituents will come unglued on him fore this!
Not a jobs bill, just adding to Berry's slush fund and well ya know he owes Andy Stern 60 mill + the American population so he still has a lot of work to do.
That is a nice idea.
Lay seige to DC for weeks.
Have our own little lunch counter "sit-in" circa. 2010.
It's been floated – it's not my notion – that Obama benefits from a GOP controlled Congress.
He'll go "Harry Truman" on us with a "Do nothing Congress" mantra – or is it madras – and that's his gimmick.
He'll sacrifice the DemocratSS in the house and Senate in a heart beat to be reelected. Self preservation is #1
Thanks jamesb for echoing my sentiments.
And "Blah, Blah"… Brown TOLD the people in MA that he was not always going to tow the Republican party line.
We ALL knew this. He made no secret of it.
The people in MA are not "let down." There are thousands of unemployed construction guys who have lost their benefits. (I know many of them as I was in the trades in MA for years.)
Brown beat Coakley by promising them he'd bring home jobs.
Like jamesb said, Brown was the beginning – let's keep our eyes on the prize. This isn't even a ripple in the heavy seas we're about to face this fall. Batten down the hatches.
Slick Willy had the benefit of a GOP Congress… that angle concerns me, also. It wouldn't surprise me if Rahmrod Deadfish isn't pushing this strategy intentionally.
No I understand completely what your saying…and I also know what I just described is fantasy land. I just cant help having because thats the design of our constitution. Corrupt people will always be around and we will always have to defend against it. And right now we have our hands full with countless losers trying to destroy our country. It tears me up that we just can't get some honest people in politics…sigh
CL, ou're one of my favorites here, but in my opinion, Borwn said, "Yes, Mass."
This is no big deal. We don't need to destroy Brown or toss him into the rubber room with Snow or Collins.
I'm with you on all of that.
He stopped ObieCare just by winning MA. If it comes back up, like regurgitated bile, he already said he'd vote against it.
Everyone needs to chill on this…including me.
So your sayin he's better than Coakly, and a sharp stick in the eye?
Be heartened. There are active recruitment drives aimed at getting some fresh blood into the GOP. I think the TEA Party will pay BIG dividends. See Col. West in Florida. That is a really talented man, he should do well in his Congressional race in Florida.
With the tide flowing the "right" way, there are many qualified, electable candidates stepping up.
I've never been a "term limits" guy, but I'm starting to rethink that one. Congressional pay and bennys need to be CUT 50% RIGHT NOW! Those people get in and it takes a case of dy-no mite! to get them back out. That's not what the Founding Dad's had in mind.
Is it legal yet to carry a handgun in D.C. or is it still one of the more restrictive police states?
I am not judging Brown 100% as of yet. But for his first big vote, he just swung me 50% against him. I understand that posture and manuvere are all fine arts of politics. Time will tell. I agree with you regarding tossin him aside completely, or putting him in their category, yet. Snow, Collins, McCain, Graham and the rest of the gang of goons are lost. There is nothing they could ever do to allow me to have a positive opinion of them.
Sit-in, hell!
I'm talking about absolutely preventing any section of the city operating anywhere near "business as usual"!
We need to bring 100,000 giant base drums and pound them in unison 24 hours a day for as long as we are there!!
Think "Lord Of The Rings"….
Let's look for his daughter's video on youtube and crucify her in the comments section.
Come On, CL and Lorben, you guys act like he's from SC or GA, he's from MA for godsakes!
He accomplished a lot of good by beating Coakley and Obama in Boston. He said, time after time, that he would vote in his states interest.
Well, they need construction jobs. They have cement crumbling off their overpasses onto cars and the only solution has been NETTING.
Cut some slack and let the guy bring a few jobs home.
In comparison, this bill is a splinter in your finger, while Obama tries to shove a phone pole up our backsides!
I think we have to keep some perspective on it, and I like the idea of thinking of him as the most liberal senator in the 2015 senate. That would be an achievement but 2010 is what's key right now. We can't pass judgement so quickly like the lefties do when they hear the words "free market" and start having panic attacks. He has to stand on principle of the big things over the long term.
Sorry that I don't agree with he just wasted tax dollars on a plan that wont work or help. It will help bump up our deficit though. And its more of the same crap hes been there a short time and he's already voted for wasteful spending. Sorry are you trying to tell me that the government can create anything even closely related to a real private sector job ? And yes I'll bet alot in Mass are fuming.
OK – that's it. F all politicians. I've been self employed for over 20 years. Don't get unemployment if I don't get work, don't get chit from anyone. If I don't get off of MY butt – I don't make any money – PERIOD. Politicians could care less about me or the millions of people like me. Pay people to sit on their butts – sure – why not?
Screw all of them. I'm on my own & will survive – despite these idiots who get and give all of our hard earned dollars.
This country is on a crash course to failure. Thanks Blammer voters – RINO voters, and others that have voted for this countries demise.
All that fall into this category can kiss my white, self employed, 16 hour a day working, arse.
Give them an inch, they want a mile.
Will this be like some of those "jobs created or saved" type of category?
No i'm saying we deserve better. Don't you think we do?
Amen brother. This doesn't surprise me at all, he echoed "bipartisanship" several times during the campaign. We just need to continue to put in some solid conservatives in November to win back the house and senate. Let's see how he is truly vetted in the meantime, kind of early so maybe he may work out and if not, vote him out the same way he was voted in.
Snow and her Rino sister in arms need to go as well. McCain needs to go as well as Lindsey Graham. We can't just focus on democrats. There are some RINO's that need to be exiled as well.
I don't know about Lord of the Rings.
That 24 hour drum pounding; will that be like the Kenyan War Dance, or Swahaili Rain Dance?
I think I get the picture………
lmao, we won't ever be able to get rid of the Rudy McRomneys
Thanks for the discussion James I enjoyed it.
I'm feeling ya dude. The main prize is November. Some of our conservative brothers are understandably mad but we are not liberals so we will regain our focus. One great thing about conservatives is that we are long suffering, with long memories. We brought him in, we can work to take him out.
Without a gun "registered" in DC with accompanying proof of residence, no.
I'm wondering if Brown would have voted for the $85 billion dollar jobs bill, as opposed to the $15 billion dollar stripped down Harry Reid version?
Ugh, if I had a magic wand, or just a trap door in front of a desk – we'd be rid of Snowe, Collins, Lindsey (ya think he got his ass kicked some? Lindsey) and John "I believe in global warming(?)" McCain and lucliky a few others are heading for the exit this fall.
Like I said, let's USE Brown, turn this thing around. He's running in 2012. The GOP can back him or cut him loose and let him find his own way…it's up to him.
Absolutely my pleasure. Thank you.
They still haven't spent all of the first stimulus, they are using the repaid TARP as a slush fund for Dems in tough campaigns and they need to borrow another $15B?
I'm always amazed at the number of times people have to learn that the person who they are so excited about being newly elected is no different than the guy before them. I feel like we go through this every cycle.
Remember this when people start to talk about Palin for president; that she supported the bailout, patriot act, and wasteful/useless wars.
Shaking up the system is not putting in someone from the other side every four years.
"Yas sir, Mr. wldbil". I've said it about five times this thread – let's USE Brown as a means to an end – flipping the Senate and blocking Obama junk like he said he would.
He's a Massachusetts Republican fer gawds sake – I bet he has pix of FDR, Wilson, and "Bubba" Clinton on his underwear – I don't care right now – lets DEFEAT OBAMACARE!
Like the giant war drums that were used by Roman soldiers to scare the crap out of their enemies…
There's a specific cadence 1234, 1234,12,1234,1234,12 ……
Very rattling when there are 1000 but if there were 100,000….
Mind numbing and incredibly unnerving…
By God you've got man!
The End justifies any means…
I was just messin wit you man…
LOL
I still think he has jammys with feet and they're covered with red stars and little pix of Smilin' Mao!
De rigueur for ALL Mass. pols!
Maybe we really shouldn't expect a different answer ,when we keep putting in the same person in office over and over again.
Ya whatever.
You can make excuses all day for wealth transfers from producers to others.
At the end of the day its redistribution liken to welfare.
So just shut your effin cakehole.
You don't seem to be too "fired up" tonight JK.
Both parties love to borrow and spend. Looks hopeless until Nov. doesn't it?
It's just voting for wealth transfers from producers to others.
At the end of the day it's nothing more than more welfare.
So shut your effin cakehole and quit making excuses.
Jamesb, I agree with all you said in this thread….We DO have to keep in
mind there are certain regions in our country that we will not get a true
conservative….Like it or not, that's how the cookie crumbles…I would love
to have Michele Bachman's and Jim DeMints in Massachusetts, California, etc.
but I don't see it happening for a long time if ever in our lifetimes…Scott Brown
said he was going to vote for Massachusetts…
I wasn't surprised a bit. It is amazing how people get wound up about a new president every for years or this or that congressman. After enough cycles you would think the excitement would dwindle.
Only economic forces will bring Washington down and cause a contraction of the empire.
Imagine that – Another irritating boil to lance.
Blah, Blah, it's the people of Massachusetts that have the power to vote him
in or out…All we can do is NOT send him any more money,if we did, when he
runs again…..He doesn't answer to us!!….He's from Massachusetts, and we
have to take what we can get in some of these ultra-liberal states, Out of what
was offered in Massachusetts….He was the only one that would be conservative
once in awhile….No true conservative can run in a place like that and get many
votes…..It won't happen!
Besides, no one hires because the government say to. They hire because they need workers. People are getting laid off because there isn't demand for their work. They're not getting hired because there isn't demand for their work. Economics is supply and demand. This bill does nothing, really, to increase demand.
Can't wait to call his office tomorrow and politely ask for my name to be removed from their rolls.
You guys just do not get it. Politics is the art of the possible. How would it look to the voters if he voted against this bill in his home state. He stated during his campaign that he would probably vote for this bill. The main costs of this particular bill are in deferred TAX paymants and NOT money being paid out. There is much I do not like and some things I do like. Political purity is FOOLISH and DESTRUCTIVE. Even the Founders had real disagreements and knock down drag out argumants on the Provisions of the eclaration, Constitution and on and on.
This one vote proves NOTHING except to people who want it to.
Why? Part of supporting an individualistic society (every individual is important) is that we don't blame children for the parent's sins. As much as I hate seeing that bill pass, we have to consider, do we want representatives that represent or not? Because, again as much as I hate to admit it, Massachusetts voters overwhelmingly support this, and as their representative, Brown has a duty to represent their views. The ones that you should be mad at are the Democrats who are deliberately ignoring their constituents. If they did their job, we wouldn't have any reason to be worried when Scott Brown does his.
Scott Brown just took his eyes off the road …………………….and ran his truck into a ditch.
I'm not calling him a tow truck, he can push it out himself.
So business gets tax credits if they hire, business wont hire if it doesn't make financial sense to hire, and the program doesn't cost anything if they don't hire. So effectivly you're only spending money if a job is actually created. I've never seen any other government spending that is so closely tied to results. Plus since it's a tax break it's really the business owners money and not the government's money in the first place yes?
I'm a single mom and gave to this campaign….guess I was duped….. I never do that…. disappointing…
I wonder what back-room deal he got??????? Loser….
Actions are stronger than words….only action….I am so tired of useless words….
His main goal was to have him and his daughter play basketball with Obama…maybe that was the back-room deal…
These guys are all a bunch of freakin' liars! Every one of them needs to be booted out of office. American Conservatives, get registered and do your homework then VOTE in November!
I'm not surprised, we were warned. His statements immediately upon election, distancing himself from the tea parties, made it doubtful we could depend on him for much. He may not go for the health care nonsense. If he does, and maybe even if he doesn't, he should be removed at the end of Kennedy's term.
