Saturday Open Thread: Trash Edition

Obama can openly greet Chavez but sends the Dali Lama out the back door to placate the Chinese. He is a disgrace and we must send him packing in 3 years. We won't send him packing though if we revert back to the McCain party. It is conservatism that has saved this nation in the past and is what will save us now. This Dali Lama incident is just another example of how Obama has no backbone. Imagine how other more important decisions are being made.

Amazing that the "front door" is always open for Andy Stern, Al Sharpton, Berth Lewis, Bill Ayers and Obamao's many other esteemed guests. One can only assume that the Mao lovers in the WH were afraid China would cut off our governments allowance.

I agree with Naan, since when would someplace such as the White House simply throw their garbage out the back door? Once again you cannot even believe what you to see with this administration. It is inconcivable that a shot like this would be made public. The games they play and the shame they have brought upon us!

Blaming Obama for this travesty will make you feel good, but he is just a bit player. Sure he's an embarrassment, but what does anyone expect? He is who he is. The US has made China its manufacturing base, and with their dollars they buy our debt allowing us to continue our insane domestic and foreign policies (all financed by credit). Does anyone think Hu Jintao takes Obama seriously? Ironically it is Chinese investment (purchasing Treasuries) that allows the US to continue on without either massive inflation or default. Everyone blaming China should look hard at their own government–a government that has become the enemy of anything truly American, at least in the traditional sense. Unfortunately, I don't see much within the Republican party that gives me hope. When Dick Cheney and (by proxy) George Bush the younger, along with that dysfunctional opportunist and erstwhile anti-intellectual Alaskan governor are held up as our way out, it seems to me, then, that we have learned nothing, and it will simply be "business as usual."

Perhaps the POtuS would have shown more respect if the Dali Lama had damned America a few times.

This is probably all by design. WH media spinners probably expected to placate the PO'd Chinese with this image, and it will pass without serious comment in the American sycophant press. As for the Dali Lama, he's probably just thinking, "trash on the curb, trash in the Oval Office, trash everywhere!"

Good question. Violence is certainly not welcome, but understandable when people are frustrated and see no way out. The first thing is to to realize that our present economic course is not sustainable. Unfortunately, as our economic situation degenerates violence may appear reasonable to some. Right now we have massive Third World immigration changing the fabric of our nation. Indeed, we are not really a "nation" in the strict sense of the term, but, rather, a multi-cultural pool of competing interests having no indigenous ties to, say, even a US as it existed as little as 50 years ago.

Also, we are engaged in wars that no one really understands. Wars financed through credit. The idea that we can turn Afghanistan into anything resembling a Western country is naive. And it is simply a matter of time before Iraq openly turns on us. Islam is incommensurate with Western thought, and the idea that there is a "moderate" Islam (the Bush idea) is wrongheaded. To believe it is so is an example of what Voegelin described as liberal gnosticism.

A solution ? End Third World immigration (especially Islamic), secure borders, withdraw American soldiers from foreign soil (including Europe and Korea–my god, these wars have been over for how many years?), get a handle on our unfunded welfare liabilities (which will require some sort of default anent what was originally promised; encourage capital formation through fiscal policy; seriously get a handle on the Fed (probably abolishing it would be the logical step); and work towards true federalism. Also, create a tax base that encourages American manufacturing. Constitutionally, the commerce clause and the doctrine of incorporation must be eliminated as we get back to original intent. But it is doubtful any of this will ever happen. It would require too much sacrifice.

My husband just suggested that Obama should have given the Dalai Lama a Snuggie ™ with either the Obama Logo covering it or the University of Tibet logo. You know, it gets cold in Tibet and sometimes a leader needs to watch TV and use the phone. Just an idea…
