Later that day, the National Weather Service announced that DC was due to receive another 10-20 inches of snow today. (On top of the 2 1/2 feet of snow over the weekend.) Now THAT is some climate change.

Last year we had all the snow in the Pacific Northwest, more snow than I had seen since the sixties. This year it has been cold, wet and only one snow fall….so I imagine the snow will swing back this way again when el nino decides to subside again you will have a reprieve and it will be my turn. It is amazing just how hard winters have been in the last three years around the world…it makes me laugh! And Copenhagen, I admit made me laugh out loud!

No, I'm looking at overall trends culminating in lower temperatures due to (wait for it…) lower solar activity over the last several years. The sun has been almost completely discounted as an influence on weather and climate. You should have paid attention in Astronomy 101…
Scientists have always called it climate change… the term can be found in the IPCC AR1 in 1990. The media picked up on global warming because it is more descriptive, even if it is a bit misleading. A better name is anthropogenic global warming (AGM).

Actually, that is exactly what happened. El Nino created spikes in global temperatures (also predicted by climate scientists) in 1997-1998, but all ten of the hottest years on record have occurred since 1997.
Faulty predictions are going to happen. There are too many people working on this to ever have total agreement on the message. But that doesn't mean AGW is not occurring. We continue to pump more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere every year and the cumulative effect is going to change human society.
There is nothing man can do to stop climate change, nothing! It is merely a means to control every person on this planet, to take us back to a agrarian society…I am not willing. If that is what you want then I would suggest Africa.

You are right about the sun, but then use that information to draw an absolutely wrong conclusion. The lack of sunspots should be causing the planet to cool, but yet we have seen eight of the ten hottest years on record in the 2000s. Only the severe El Nino of 1997 and 1998 pushed those years into the top ten.
The sun will probably begin heating up again soon exacerbating the problems created by the greenhouse gases we have added to the atmosphere over the past decade.

Drilling in this country solves nothing. It replaces oil that is easy to reach with oil that is better positioned politically, but much more difficult to get out of the ground. The global warming problem will continue to worsen each year.
A shift in automobile technology could go a long way to increasing vehicle mileage and decreasing our need to burn oil.

NASA…. They had a press release on 21 Jan 2010 and announced that 2009 tied for the second hottest year on record (since 1880) and that the southern hemisphere experienced their warmest year ever.
All ten of the hottest recorded years have occurred since 1997. And 2000-2010 was the hottest decade by far.

Here is my prediction, the weather this summer will be just a little bit cooler than past weather, followed by a cooler fall and early snow fall in the east. The right wing wants to dumb down public education by teaching religion in science class and denying the climate science. It will never stand as long as I have a voice. If our children are to compete in the global marketplace they will need to depend on us not to lie to them. By denying the climate science you are lying to them and it will have an impact over time. Eventually they will figure out that you have lied to them and wonder what else have they lied about.?

I teach my children to think for themselves and not jump on bandwagons. I teach them to know what is theory and what is fact.
As far as religion, I teach them it is personal. I have introduced them to my faith, and I assure them that believing what their father believes simply for that sake will result in doom.

Only a science denier would ever suggest that AGW is a hoax. I encourage my kids to examine the evidence and make decisions base on how the world works, not how they would like it to work.

The problem is some scientists contest the reported average temperature of the last few years and the previous decades before that. As for me personally MD had unusually cool weather all of 2009. 2008 wasn't very hot either. 2001 was very hot. I know we have to look at global trends, but I question the data. I also question the theory that humans are causing this change if there is one. It is healthy to question and examine. The problem seems to be that many scientists funded by the government instead of questioning some of these assumptions seem to be working from the idea that these are facts and that there is no other possible reason for the various trends.
Besides the fact that climate change is not the most pressing problem facing our country or the world but seems to be getting most of the money and media exposure. I wish more of the money would be thrown into causes that could help save lives and jobs today.

See, I support improving the efficiency of vehicles. I think many Americans, even those who don't buy into the urgency of climate change support this as well and want more efficient vehicles. I like recycling, conserving, reusing. I like saving trees. I think it is important to reduce pollution. I just don't think that the way to go about it is having the government force everyone to comply with everything its scientists have deemed are necessary to save us from destruction. This kind of paranoid control and conversation is what turns a lot of people off. Especially when they see more people dieing around the world from hunger, lack of medication, violence, etc. Responsible people should appreciate the world in which they live and want to keep it healthy for posterity, but they shouldn't be forced to do so.
This money being thrown at climate change could be use more efficiently somewhere else. And do a lot more good.

Probably a good place to start is on things we should be able to agree on…. like weening ourselves off of foreign oil and using technology that is on the shelf to increase vehicle mileage.
As far as not forcing people to do things, that is not the way to accomplish something in a civil society. When I was a kid the highways were covered with litter. It was second nature to throw your trash out the window as you barreled down the road. Hwy 71 between KC and St. Joe looked like a landfill. Then the highway patrol began handing out $25 tickets and the problem went away… like magic. People will do the right thing once they know what is expected of them and don't feel like they are being singled out. When it comes to the environment, we are all in it together.

Yes I won't since you seem to be confused. Let me clarify the great news. IPCC claimed constant rise in temperature. NASA data shows it's the second hottest year. The highest was 2005 and the third was in 1998. Therefore it shows the temperature is in a falling trend especially with 2008 being the coldest in the decade. Don't let the headline fool you. Read the content for once before you panic and cry wolf.

Man made greenhouse gases are exactly what is causing the rise in global temps. The reason it is not linear is because there are many factors that affect climate. A prime example was the 1998 El Nino that causedglobal temperatures to spike.
We could even see another little ice age if the scientists are correct about the melting of the polar ice and its affect on the ocean heat transference mechanism. Scientists have long believed that the little ice age in the middle ages could have been brought on by the melting from the medieval warm period. The fresh water from the melting ice will not sink to the depths it needs to be at to move the undersea current to the equator. It stops the transference mechanism which in turn prevents warm water from moving north. The estimates are that it could lower temps in North American by 5 degrees and Northern Europe by 10 degrees.

The temperature records that you are referring to from the 1930s were set in North America. They were not global records. All of the highest global temps have occurred since 1997, with the hottest year occurring in 2005.
The stolen e-mails have all been debunked and do not change the science or the data. NASA recently released the global temperature data for 2009 in January. Even with the mild weather we experienced in North America, 2009 still tied for the second highest global temp in recorded history. In fact, they set records in the southern hemisphere for all time highs.
Obama reminds me of raising my only child. Obama's request to form a climate change agency demonstrates that he is not listening to the people and intends to force his agenda to the detriment of us all. OH! I recall now that he is an only child. Well, that explains it.
I wish there were only two ways to have it. The problem with climate is there are so many influences that it is difficult to predict from year to year what will happen.
What we do know is that over time, global temps continue to rise. 2000-2010 was the warmest decade in recorded history. We know that atmospheric CO2 levels are higher than at anytime in human history and continue to rise each year. We know that greenhouse gases have a profound warming affect on the planet. And we know that humans are responsible for the increases by burning fossil fuels and engaging in deforestation.
The question now is, what are we going to do about it.

First of all, you are completely wrong about volcanic activity. While the potential exists for a devastating eruption like, say if Yellowstone were to blow. But the average annual CO2 put into the atmosphere from volcanoes is about 200 million tons. The contribution from humans burning fossil fuels is 27 billion tonnes each year… and growing every year. That's billion with a B. So if you do the math, you will find that the contribution of CO2 from volcanoes is less than 1 percent of what we burn. But don't take my word for it. I've never understood the right's fascination with Mars and Jupiter. The one thing we know for sure about those planets is their increased warming is not coming from the sun, at least not since 1978 when we began keeping records of solar output. So something else is causing it, probably something unique to each planet… orbital fluctuations, planet wobble etc. Jupiter is a gas giant and generates twice as much heat internally than it receives from the Sun. None of this has nothing to do with the earth.
Yup, Cap and Trade is a lobby from Wall Street, Bay street etc… to turn the reduction of CO2 through trade able credits (to offset climate change) into a mostly unrelated Stock/credit trading scheme that buys and sells needed and unused credits where big dollars can be gained through commissions (the tail wags the dog). When this was tried in other economies the effect being that the CO2 output actually increased because of the misinformed opinion and perception that reductions in overall CO2 (without checking progress) would take place so business can be conducted as usual.
It is sad seemly that nothing can be accomplished for humanities benefit without the usual suspects (gov&big business) misleading the public and lining their pockets.

What he fails to understand is that CO2's affect on raising the temperature can be easily negated by other natural forces and therefore cannot be the driver for overall rise in global temperature. But since that won't support his hypothesis, he uses statements like 'warmest decade in recorded history' while not informing you that 'recorded history' by sattelite data. Also atmospheric CO2 levels are higher than at anytime in human history but were much higher during the span of earth history. I don't see the relevance of the CO2 levels or temperatures from a billion years ago. The climate then would not have supported human life and that is the real threat of AGW… to human life and human civilization.
Our civilization has developed during the last 20,000 years along a very narrow range of atmospheric CO2 levels. Our civilization will not survive if they continue to multiply at current rates.
Well, temperature during the medieval warm period as you mentioned certainly was much higher than the temperature today. And as you mentioned, entered little ice age right after. Again as you mentioned, we may enter yet another little ice age, don't you think nature adjusts itself?

It is not going to get hotter. It is going to get colder. On the calendar of the Great Year in astronomy it shows that winter is coming, an ice age.
It is easy enough for a child to figure out. A child looks at a calendar and is told that all calendars are made to predict weather. Then the child is asked if it snowed in January of this year, what weather should you expect in January of 2011?
It is the same with the calendar of the Great Year which spans 26,000 years. It is for weather. If the beginning of the Great Year marked the starting era of an ice age that lasted 17,000 years, what weather should the planet expect after the beginning of the new Great Year that begins as 2012 ends?

If the record shows CO2 level being much higher in the past before human existence, it clearly means it will do so without the help of human. And when everytime the level reaches around 400ppm the record shows the fall in temperature. That is very relevant and cannot be dismissed for it is the law of nature.

I don't know where you get this stuff, but the record shows that temperature and atmospheric CO2 levels are closely aligned and there has never been an instance where the two diverged for very long. The ice core record goes back 800,000 years and CO2 levels rarely reached 300 ppm, let alone 400. Only recently in the last 100 years have they come close to 400.
Can you refer me to the graph that shows the correlation between them using r-squared at least equalling 5%. Then I'll get back to you after that.
And Climate science is just a theory right now. It's too politicized to take any scientist seriously on the subject, on either side. I looked at the NASA site you posted earlier, and noticed that for all the US' greenifying, the CO2 emisions have barely changed, while Russia's emissions have decreased by more than 50%. China's, on the other hand, have quadrupled.
If the bigwigs practiced what they preached, (i.e., if Al Gore lived in a 400 ft^2 house, instead of a 40,000 ft^2 palace), it might lend some credibility to their claims. For now, I'll trust that the global climate is complex, and no one understands it. Higher temperatures may cause increased clouds, which increases albedo, which reflects sunlight away from the ground, which ends up cooling the planet. Or they may not. The Earth will maintain homeostasis in either case.

No, I think you are reading too much into their admission of the obvious technical problems when extracting proxy data from distilled isotopes. The statistical anomalies are identified for climate modeling. It doesn't change the accuracy of an 800,000 year graph. You have some wiggle room when the head of your pen is 4000 years wide.

I thought global warming caused strange shifts in weather both hot and cold. If so this would be consistent with that. Don't really care for this cap and trade thing, if it ends up reducing CO2 that would be good, but its probably just another moneymaking device for giant corporations.
