New Federal Climate Change Agency Forming

The Obama administration on Monday proposed a new agency to study and report on the changing climate.
Also known as global warming, climate change has drawn widespread concern in recent years as temperatures around the world rise, threatening to harm crops, spread disease, increase sea levels, change storm and drought patterns and cause polar melting.
Commerce Secretary Gary Locke and Jane Lubchenco, head of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, announced NOAA will set up the new Climate Service to operate in tandem with NOAA’s National Weather Service and National Ocean Service.
“Whether we like it or not, climate change represents a real threat,” Locke said Monday at a news conference.
Lubchenco added, “Climate change is real, it’s happening now.” She said climate information is vital to the wind power industry, coastal community planning, fishermen and fishery managers, farmers and public health officials.
NOAA recently reported that the decade of 2000-2009 was the warmest on record worldwide; the previous warmest decade was the 1990s. Most atmospheric scientists believe that warming is largely due to human actions, adding gases to the atmosphere by burning fossil fuels such as coal and natural gas.

4) Glaciergate– The IPCC is forced to withdraw the paper that claims that the Himalayan glaciers will melt by 2035 because it was based on ONE scientist's opinion and therefore scientifically bogus.
5) Reefgate– It's been revealed that Greenpeace – an organization known more for headline-grabbing publicity stunts than sober-minded analysis is sited as the the SOLE source for the claim of coral reef degradation in the 2007 IPCC report.
6) Rainforestgate– Findings in the IPCC report claim that 40 percent of the Amazon rainforest in South America was endangered by global warming. This was discredited upon finding it was based on numbers from a study by the World Wildlife Federation that had nothing to do with the issue of global warming — and that was written by a freelance journalist and green activist.
7) The Weather Channel founder John Coleman has made a TV documentary claiming the NCDC finding that 2009 tied with 2006 for the fifth warmest year on record is fatally flawed. Coleman's show trumpets a new report that alleges that federal climate agencies have been manipulating climate data for years in order to show more significant warming than has actually been occurring.
9) BBC reports the most alarming forecasts of natural systems amplifying the human-induced greenhouse effect may be too high, according to a new report from a study in Nature. It confirms that as the planet warms, oceans and forests will absorb proportionally less CO2.
10) The New Zealand Government’s chief climate advisory unit NIWA is under fire for allegedly massaging raw climate data to show a global warming trend that wasn’t there.
11) Calls by Greenpeace U.K for embattled IPCC chairman Rajendra Pachauri to resign saying his judgment is flawed and other groups saying he's a crony capitalist financially benefiting from bogus AGW research.
12) The U.K. government’s chief scientific advisor, John Beddington, has acknowledged some climate scientists exaggerated the impact of global warming and called for more honesty in explaining to the public the inherent uncertainties of predictions based on computer climate models, adding: “I don’t think it’s healthy to dismiss proper skepticism.”

I'm not sure which came first, the socialist economic redistributionist bent on the "Climate Change" issue, or the issue itself. Based on the way it is treated, I tend to think that it was grabbed as a theory early on.
In the '70s, it was tried with Global Cooling (they blamed CO2 back then for the cooling!) So, it seems like the scam goes deep enough through the whole branch of "science". It isn't a redeemable study – it is an ideological religion. If they get enough people to say it loud enough, then it's hard to believe it isn't true… but there are too many "pushers" out there for me to trust it. Copenhagen was all "death to capitalism!", not anything really about the planet.

Don't forget that the number of stations worldwide upon which data collection depends has been decreasing. In a totally unrelated story – the stations dropped from the data collection have been ones that did not show increasing temperatures. The collection of data has been increasingly urbanized (close to asphalt and heat sources) and even that is not causing a dramatic increase in average temperature.

I know this is a hot topic but I have an observation. If the science is, as Al Gore says, settled, why do we need this new agency? Also, why do we need 6 regional offices of this agency? A point that I have to make; The medieval warming period was much warmer than now. Furthermore, how can this decade be the warmest on record, when the record clearly shows it has been cooling for more than a decade. The only evidence I have heard to refute this fact is the IPCC making the claim it was the warmest decade, like you can trust them at this point.

Even if I thought it was a real environmental threat, and not a scheme by scientists to get grants and Gore and company to make money, I don't think we have the money to fund any more government agencies. What are you planning to cut from government in order to fund this? If a family on a budget decided to have a new car payment, they would have to cut something else from their budget, so what is the government planning to cut?

I used to be a skeptic, but try this at home:
5:38 AM: I wake up (reluctantly, I am off work today!), It is cold and dark and there is maybe a 10mph wind. Seems West to East, not sure.
8:15 AM: I go outside for a smoke, even though I live alone, can't stand the smell! It is much lighter now and the wind has died down some with only sporadic light gusts. It is noticeably warmer, but still cooler than I care for. Getting sunlight at times through the cloud cover.
10:24 AM: Out for a stretch, checking to make sure the house hasn't fallen apart anymore since the storm last week. Don't care to work outside in the snow if I don't have too. Not much change, but the clouds are thinner and the Sun is well veiled behind them.
12:32 PM: Out for another smoke and going to run some errands. The clouds are mostly gone and it is considerably warmer (in relative terms). Getting to be more my kind of day!
3:01 PM: Out smoking again (don't criticize! take it as a tip to buy stock in Phillip Morris). Starting to get a little colder and darker, wind picking up again. The day has definitely taken a turn for the worse.
5:17 PM: Back where we started! Cold and dark again, wind blowing a little harder. Storm clouds gathering with the threat of 9-15 inches of snow in the next 36 hours!
All of this in just one day! Just think would could happen over the course of a few weeks… Will the days get longer? Will it continue to get warmer and warmer? Could I see more of the Sun in the coming weeks? This is a serious problem. I don't like CHANGE. I HOPE things get back to normal soon. Must we DO SOMETHING?

The Obama Administration acts as if there is only one truth, and they are the only keepers of that truth. What of the two feet of snow covering Washington right now, with more on the way? Could it not be considered an "inconvenient truth".
In his new budget, Obama has already included revenue from cap and trade policies; meaning obviously that his attitude is "screw you all, your money no belongs to me to redistribute as I, and only I, see fit.
The fact that Obama is kinda sorta almost between 1% and 100% but not quite black really has no influence on his qualifications. I dislike the man as much as anyone, but saying him being black is why he's doing this, I'd like to point out that Wilson and FDR were whiter than my ass in winter, and they screwed us worse than Obama can.

I have never crossed paths with her, although she was at OSU the same time I was doing thesis work in the northwest on a related topic. That is, I never heard of her! To me, that means she was NOT doing science but something else. Apparently so……
I think I will go back and check any publications she's written in her 28 years at OSU.
Climate change could be a serious threat to us, and we should be measuring/analyzing it. But with no prejudice – no pushing of a hysterical "it's here and it's killing us" mentality.

I know this ABC News article was posted here as a kind of joke to tweak the Big Government readers. This bland report reads as if the last few years, and especially the past few months never happened, or happened on a different planet. And it plays into the fact Obama has not once acknowledged the Climategate and Himalaya glacier scandals, thus further frustrating BG readers like me. Everyday I wonder who lets climate changers continue to propagate text about the subject as we see the death of the global warming movement before our eyes. Dear Pres. Obama…I want to tell you a little secret my Granny used to say…"Everybody complains about the weather, BUT NOBODY ever DOES ANYTHING about it!" I think what she meant was this: Weather is always changing. We have 4 season…summer, when it's hot…fall, when it turns cool…Winter, when it is COLD and sometimes it SNOWS!…but winter is followed by SPRING, and it always turns back warmer….until SUMMER comes and then it gets REALLY HOT again!
It has always been like this, but sometimes it turns really COLD and we may have an ICE AGE like in the cave man times. But that is just the way the weather is. After a while it will turn back warmer again.
So anyway, Mr. Pres….I just wanted you to KNOW about the weather, sometimes called CLIMATE.
You really don't have to WORRY SO MUCH about it…because it's always been this way! It will work itself out.

A while back someone really in the know was saying we had 50 days before it was too late. Can't Obama see it is way too late now. He has dragged his ass for way too long on this planetary disaster stuff and should be impeached and executed by the international community at a venue funded in Euros and sponsored by Toyota.
….but we can….CO2 levels are regulated by absorption from plants, animals, and the ocean. We have increased the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere by 50%…we're talking a million x a billion pounds of carbon (a gas!). in order to compensate for that, we would need 50% more absorption, which we do not have. We will double the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere by 2030 if we do not curb our emissions. we're talking about filling a cup with a set limit and letting it overflow. It WILL overflow. Of course mother nature will survive and compensate for these changes. We can never destroy mother nature. The only real question is whether or not we will survive the changes.
These postings, in my humble opinion, are quite inspiring. Imagine….we've reached a day when citizens actually believe the sky is not falling in spite of what the arrogants of the govt. choke down our throats. Refreshing. All of this nonsense is nothing more than thinly veiled attempts by our incompetent, miserable, conniving government to control, what they see as, their subjects. Us.
Vote all of these low-lifes out next November and put their replacements on probation. Anyone, I believe, would be better than what we have in office currently.

President Obama is trying to regain momentum on health care overhaul, but the push comes as Democrats seem dejected and Republicans, like Palin grow increasingly confident.
I shamefully admit to having formerly been a NOAA scientist working on climate research. As cyclonaut noted and I can personally attest to…NOAA is complicit in the climate fraud. On a personal note, I'm feeling much better about myself now that I have a real job.

I agree with your prediction. In fact, there willl be a gradual "climate change" starting in the spring, continuing to warm through the summer, and then in the fall we will see a shift in "climate change" towards cold.
There will be hurricanes in the summer…snow storms next winter…and thunderstorms in the spring.

How are solar flares a fraud? I'm an AGW sceptic, as strong as anyone else here on this page; I'm also an amateur astronomer. Observations of the sun over many years have shown that flares and, especially, Coronal Mass Ejections, can have a serious impact on Earth's magnetic field, when they're directed at us. They can cause disruptions to communications, satelite operations and electrical grids (i.e: the Eastern Canada blackout in 1989). They don't pose a physical hazard to humans, at least at ground level, but they can be dangerous to those in orbit and a possible threat to airline passengers at 30k + feet.
Flares and CMUs are associated with sunspot activity, which has been unusually quiet since Solar Minimun occured about a year and a half ago. Some solar scientists were expecting (and predicting, 'haha' I thought at the time) a particularly strong solar cycle; but they've been surprised by the lack of activity. This inactivity on the sun's part may be a factor in the colder weather experienced globally, and not just this winter, but for the past few seasons.
While science has come a long way in understanding the nature of the sun, and in turn, predicting 'space weather', there's obviously much that still has to be learned. But I don't think any of it is fraudulant. Do you also think the threat of an asteroid/comet impact is a fraud, as well?
