Jimmy Carters defining moment was the hostage crisis, it was the highlight of his failed Presidency. Everything else was downhill from there.

Every state in the union is controlled by the government parties. Every state is in some sort of financial trouble and the politicians answers are always more taxes instead cutting back and waiting for better times. Soon our deficit will be over powering and their answer will be crushing taxes on the working people, but the politician still talk health care instead talking cuts in programs and give aways… So if you believe the republicans or democrats are going to save you from their corruption and mismanagement then your in for a big surprise. When you work all year long just to live and pay taxes you know you were warned. The government parties have learned nothing yet and ready to enslave you..

I agree, couple the high taxes together with the very high inflation that is on our doorstep and the average family is going to be in big trouble. The only way out of this mess is to cut government spending, however, there is no way in hell that will happen with the current crop of career politicians in both parties.

I believe that we will soon be just another banana republic unless some of our "leaders" get some gonads, stand up for the constitution and do what needs to be done.

Under Reagan's watch I also recall amnesty and lebanon, and iran contra.. and North throwed under a bus.

no third party.. people can form groups and parties all they want, but no tax payer money or any law should benifit that group/party un like today.

. There are few things more sacred to a republic than representation. The one man one vote and all it’s citizens are represented equally promise. Why isn’t voter fraud hounded out of existence? Voter fraud is a direct assault on our republic, it can kill a nation. There is nothing more fraudulent than gerrymandering and it’s creation of an artificial majority based on party affiliation not representation to silence the dissention of we the people. It is one of the reason our congress does not listen to we the people. Gerrymandering is a creation of the government parties to protect their power and to turn representation into re-election.. The parties can not speak of freedom until districts are based on representation not party affiliation.

I lived the declining moral of the military (ROTC), the slow decline and finally the betrayal of Vietnam. It started with conservative who was a liberal (Nixon), morphed into sincere man, trying to hold the center (Ford) and plunged under President Peanut. The exciting vibrant days (good and bad) of Rock n Roll and Country, transmuted into dull muted cloudy cardigan wearing whip inflation now, 55 mph and out "leaders" telling us our best days were behind us. Reagan had been beaten by Ford and of course like we formerly great Americans, his best days were behind him. I was pleased when I discovered RR would speak at the Waterloo Iowa annual chamber dinner and scraped together the money to attent the banquet and the extra to attend a public mixer before. I took along a copy of an album his beautiful daughter Maureenhad recorded years before. Amazingly I was able to approach him one on one. He wasn't a giant, slightly shorter than my 6'1" but I felt a little better. I ask him to autograph the cover, he laughed slightly and commented he hadn't seen one of those in years. I confessed he had been my hero since 64 when one of his speeches gave me the facts that countered a teachers political claims in class and she had to apologize to my entire class. I told him that I was disappointed that he lost in 76 and I was deeply concerned that we were in decline and I hoped he would run again. I don't recall the exact words, no I Shall Return! no bravado, only a sincere thank you, a few words of encouragement and I new if things were to get better, I had to be a part of it. I knew that the future had to be better. Palin, Brown, The Tea Party Movement are pieces of the answer. In truth, we do not need a Reagan, we are Reagan. I saw that about raising the debt limit yesterday. They want the limit raised so that the Government can take over all student loans.

That is just what we need when the unemployment is so high and the economy is tanking.

Just what in the HELL do these socialists want to do? Start another great depression? If so, they are doing a very good job and another great depression is not far off.

How do we stop them ? We do not have much time. The 2010 election cycle cannot come soon enough for me but I fear it wont stop this slide into haties.

The problem the politicains haven't explained is where all this money is going to come from to pay this debt and even under perfect conditions we are years away from a recovery. so something go to give and working all year long just to pay taxes is not go over very well. thus a depression.

i haven't listened to any talk radio in almost 8 yrs (since moving to an area with lousy AM reception) but this morning i remembered there are a couple political channels on XM/Sirius. so i tuned into Laura Ingraham for a few minutes and during one of the interminable ad blocks (WTF?) it occurred to me that it might be more fun to listen to the lefty channel.

I will say this, George Washington was an amazing and inspirational man. He was cut of a different cloth than the rest of us mere mortals. He deserves all of our praise, thanks and study.

This is all very depressing… and wrong about almost everything. The chicoms economy cannot maintain those kinds of growth numbers indefinitely, anymore than an mature company can double its sales every year. They will soon run up against the limits of a growing middle class that wants to take part in the prosperity and a polluted environment that must be dealt with… just like we did 50 years ago.

Our manufacturing base is leaving because there is no penalty for shipping jobs overseas. We continue to import the goods of these companies after they leave with no trade restrictions and little regard what it does to jobs at home. There is no such thing as free trade when foreign governments are subsidizing the products we import. Our manufacturing base needs to be protected from the unfair competition of foreign governments.

Our environmental laws are one of the things that make us better than the chicoms. Remember the TV pictures of Beijing during the 2008 Olympics? They shut down their factories two weeks before the games, seeded the clouds to try and make rain to clear the skies and it was still unfit to breath by western standards.

I have four college graduates who can all write and do math. One is a corporate LAN manager, ones a family practice doc, an organic chemist and the youngest is a political staffer for a United States senator. All are the products of the public school system and give me hope for our future.

I think it is the chicoms who are in trouble.

Yes, Reagan made mistakes. So have I. I'm not going to focus on his mistakes, not when he made MANY, MANY more good decisions.
