McCOTTER: Putting ‘Limited’ Back In Government
by PubliusFrom today’s Washington Times:
If your finances looked like the federal budget, you wouldn’t get elected. You’d get arrested. Under the Democrats’ iron-fisted, one-party rule of Washington, family budgets shrink and the federal budget bloats: The deficit, the debt and spending are at record levels; massive tax increases impend in the days ahead; and widespread unemployment persists and pains working families. Compounding this crisis, the Democrats’ spending spree imperils our national security by creating a “debt threat” whereby antagonistic nations to which we owe hundreds of billions of dollars practice economic statecraft against America to influence our foreign and domestic policies and/or actively undermine our strategic interests. In sum, government exacerbates rather than ameliorates the economic chaos around us.
Amidst the economic, social and political challenges of globalization, the injurious inequity of Democrats’ fiscal irresponsibility is not lost upon Americans. We know the government’s morally bankrupt boondoggle, committed with our hard-earned money, squanders our prosperity, weakens our security and constitutes an immoral usurpation of our liberty and sovereignty.
A Rasmussen poll in August quantified the public’s wisdom on the subject, revealing that 62 percent of Americans “say that it is always better to cut taxes than increase government spending because taxpayers, not bureaucrats, are the best judges of how to spend their own money.” The same poll showed that half of all Americans “believe that a dollar of tax cuts is always better than a dollar of public spending” and that just 25 percent of Americans think “spending provides much more bang for the buck than tax cuts when it comes to economic policy and creating jobs.” Seventy percent of voters “favor a government that offers fewer services and imposes lower taxes over one that provides more services with higher taxes”; 74 percent of Americans “trust their own economic judgment more than that of the average member of Congress.” Sixty-six percent “trust their own economic judgment more than President Obama’s”; and “Nearly four out of five voters [think] the problem is not their unwillingness to pay taxes [but is] their elected representatives’ refusal to cut the size of government.”

yes, there is a role for government, but politicians have to get past this spending like it is monoply money. The Democrats like to point out t6hat Bush spent freely, but they make him look like a piker. It doesn't flu, particularly during a recession.
It appears that one year into his reign, as a matter of fact, on the historic day of his coronation, King Barry's throne is no longer gilded. He has just been relegated into "Lame Duck" status.
Now if Dick Cheney would only invite him for a duck hunt.
In this same vein, government can and should institute some of Steagall Glass safeguards, but more importantly, government must stop the bailout, "too big to fail" public policy that leads Wall Street to assume there are no consequences for behaving recklessly.
Congress has always spent our money badly. Social Security- BROKE, Medicare- BROKE, Fannie and Freddie- Clusterf**k, AMTRAK- will never be viable, U.S. Postal Service- complete joke. How do they fix problems? Throw more money at it. Finally Americans are seeing that we can no longer spend money we don't have for things we don't need.
There is hope. And isn't it ironic that it's us now that are doing it?
DTOM!

Get Judge Napolitano to hold some classes for them at the capitol bldg….you know Constitution 101 where they actually are required to read it, understand the numerated powers that limits government, and then be tested on it…they flunk the test or can't follow it, their immediately tossed out of Congress
Take that poll at a Tea Party and you would have 99% results.
Of corse we have truble reeding the questons.
Hopefully- with a new era of control by the people over their government, also comes a new style of campaigning by our candidates. We don't need any more promises. We need results. We shouldn't care what a candidate may or may not do for US if elected, we don't need any more handouts, bailouts, or Cash for Clunker style programs. We should care that the candidate's first priority is to uphold the Constitution above every other priority presented forth. If a candidate is not able to express a deep understanding of the documents that make this country what it is…Then it is impossible for that candidate to do a good job representing us in Washington.
That goes for the R's the D's and anyone masquerading as a "Tea Party", Independent, Libertarian, etc… candidate as well. No candidate should get a free pass this time around…NO ONE!
New numbers just in shows 2009 DEFICIT at $1.4 TRILLION or 10% of GDP, up 300% from 2008's 3% of GDP but, it's Bush's fault.
This admin is illegitimate; Hussein hasn’t even proved he’s eligible to be president. Is this how far we’ve fallen that the white invertebrates in DC are too afraid to make Hussein prove his constitutional eligibility?
It’s pathetic.
Now this socialist sack of shyt is unconstitutionally penalizing businesses he doesn’t like and rewarding those that supported him such as the unions. This jugeared traitor is unconstitutionally penalizing banks that have paid back their loans but this scumbag has no concern over leftwing organizations such as Fannie/Freddie and GM paying back their loans. Hussein is an absolute piece of shit. When republicans take control of the house and senate in Nov they need to impeach this traitor and if he is indeed ineligible to be president he should be imprisoned for life.
And these leftwing phuqs want to reinstitute the death tax which is pure theft. In sane country politicians that advocated confiscating people’s assets which have already been taxed, thus making this double taxation, would be executed.
Frankly the entire democrat party deserves to be executed.
Sailors drink only when they're not on duty, they're not spending other people's money, and they earned the privilege.
If this were the case with congress we wouldn't be where we are today.
If our government doesn't again become limited, everything else in our society will including our liberty and economy
We must elect people who are humble servants almost "reluctant" to serve their government. Who want to take our country back to our true Constitutional foundation and that means many bureaucracies will need to be deconstructed. Take our country back to a true "Limited Government". We have never done this before in our history and I believe it will be the only way we can stop this inevitable socialism crippling our country. If we don't deconstruct, it will eventually rear its ugly head and again and again, till it eventually becomes realized.
Lorben, I tolerated these leftwing imbeciles all through the Bush years but now my patience is gone. I'm ready to walk down Hollywood blvd with my bullwhip doling out punishment.
Very well said!!…And yet they want to take on more!..
If it wasn't so serious, you would think you were
watching the 3, oops, I meant 535 stooges with a
very few exceptions…..
It's time to cut SSI roles by 30% (fraud), cut food stamps by 30% (fraud), cut Medicare by 30% (fraud), stop gov't funding of not-for-profits ENTIRELY, and cut gov't salaries, across the board–EXCEPT FOR THE MILITARY–by 20% (waste).
Personalize it over and over.
…. they are taking money from your purse
…..they are taking money from your bank account
…..they are taking money from your wallet.
This is thievery. Congress is stealing your money over and over.
You can't call the police on them.
Send them all home and start over. What? these 400+ people are any match to US?
I understand. The leftist bullies have made to much noise and need to learn to keep their yaps shut! They are not the majority!
Lorben, you are correct.
What pushed me into the "confrontational camp" [to be honest I always had one foot in it anyway] is when the gayhadists started harassing elderly Mormon ladies over their support of prop 8. Of course these leftwing thumb-sucking cowards didn't have the courage to go into Compton or East LA and harass the elderly black and latino ladies because they knew they would get killed.
We need a a national kick-the-shyt-out-of-a-liberal holiday.
Yes, and don't forget HOPE (that they all hang themselves), and CHANGE (the little bit you have left in your pocket)…..will be very limited as well.
Heck no, Cheney has proven he can't effectively hit what he is aiming at.
For the SS agents out there, its called /sarcasm don't get your panties in a bunch.
I say we just sh*t can SSI, Medicare, Medicaid, the Post Office, because if they are on the verge of bankruptcy what good are they to us? And give more to the military for their putting their lives on the line for our freedom! I know, I know, that's pretty harsh.
There will not be true accountability and freedom until politicians quiver behind their desks in mortal fear of large groups of normal everyday law abiding citizens breaking down their office doors rather than wait patiently for the polls to open in three years.
Exactly – never understood how we let the gov spend more money than it has in the coffers!
I don't like what they spend our money on, but the big thing i can't get by is that they can spend more money than "earned" – how the hell did that happen? They can buy tin hats with our taxes for all i care, just don't spend more than what's in the coffers….
And the total debt increased $1.9 trillion vs $1.0 trillion.
I agree, "too big to fail" has become "too big to fail so we'll make it even bigger?" Unsustainable spending defies any kind of sense, common or otherwise. A system collapse is what they are wanting. The1929 Stock Market crash was bad, the 1933 was far worse, that is where we are heading.
Lorben, to get them to deconstruct we have to stop feeding them. We need to protest with a withholding of our Tax dollars, as a protest done in a legal way. The spending has got to stop, if they have no money, they cannot grow, it is as simple as that. It would also be recommended for us to follow the money that has gone out, and what was done with that money. An accounting is in order, they need to be held accountable.
You forgot …….they are taking the bread out of our childrens mouth.
Yes, they are stealing, there is a reason why most Senators are also very wealthy.
With their crazy accounting practices it is even worse than they admit to.
[...] noticed this observation at Big Government: “If your finances looked like the federal budget, you wouldn’t get elected. You’d get [...]
What I would like to know is what morons are in the 20% – 35% who think they're not paying enough and that the Govt. is smarter than they are at spending it? What planet are they born on and can we send them back?
Agreed. My question is, how do we start this tax rebellion?
Or "are humble servants almost "reluctant" to serve in our government".
Humble servant doesn't equal politicians!
I would say a lie detector test but doesn't that require actual Brain Activity?
Publius has a short memory!!
"During President Bush's first five years in office, the federal government increased by $616 billion," Viguerie writes. "That's a mammoth 33 percent jump in the size of the federal government in just his first five years! To put this in perspective, this increase of $616 billion is more than the entire federal budget in Jimmy Carter's last years in office. And conservatives were complaining about Big Government back then! How can Bush, (Dennis) Hastert, (Bill) Frist and company look us in the eye and tell us they are fiscal conservatives when in five short years they increased the already-bloated government by more than the budget for the entire federal government when Ronald Reagan was assuming office?"

The time for the government to spend more is precisely in a recession in order to stimulate the economy. When times are better is when to cut back on spending and reduce the deficit. That is exactly what Clinton did and we had a surplus for the first time in decades. Then Bush cut taxes largely for corporations and the already wealthy (less money in) and increased spending (more money out). Wasn't it Dick Cheney that said "deficits don't matter"? You see where that got us. The "Fat Cats" had their paychecks soar while everyone elses flat-lined or went down. What happened to all that "trickle down" that was supposed to happen? I guess all the corporate "Massas" thought that money was best spent themselves or on sending jobs overseas and firing Americans. And then the economy tanked so many more have no paycheck at all. It's time we took back our country from big business and big money before regular folks don't matter at all.
Those people don't think that THEY are not paying enough, they think EVERYONE else isn't paying enough.
Yes, unfortunately there were institutions that actually were too big to fail without taking the economy all the way down. Never Again! Reinstate Glass-Steagal? Absolutley! No more "free-for-all", no regulation, anything goes. (And, of course, the "big money" will whine and propagandize about getting "big government off our backs" and duping folks into being "Judas Goats" for them.
Ya got inflation figured in those figures?
You are kidding, right? Obama voted for TARP while Bush was still president and then Obama pushed the $700 billion Porkulus bill through early in his presidency, last year. Let's see, $616 billion in FIVE years vs. a $700 billion increase in a MATTER OF MONTHS.
Get a clue.
That is an undeniable fact that many don't seem to remember and many didn't even pay attention when it was happening. The economy was doing well most of that time and that's when we should have been reducing the deficit. Instead "big business" and "big money" got anything they wanted. Taxes were cut (while middle-class folks got a pittance), Regulations were done away with and it was a "free-for-all" party. We (the people) have to take our country back from "big business" and "big money". Never Again!
I guess you can believe anything you choose, but history doesn't exactly support what you are saying. Government spending doesn't really create or promote jobs, private business does. Your statements reveal a real jealousy of the wealthy. Capitlism's vice is it creates great wealth but spreads it unevenly. Socialism creates misery, but spreads it to all.
I would modernize Glass Steagal and attempt to get world markets to cooperate as well. There needs to be areas where investment firms can take huge risks, they just need to be separate from commercial banks and people's pension funds. At the same time, government cannot or should not pursue public policy which encoureges reckeless financial risk with the notion they will be protected from the consequences of failures. Certainly we should not be making policy decisions designed to make bankers make mortgage loans to poor credit risks.
Another thing would be to follow the sage advice of Obama while on the campaign trail. __Kick the lobbyists out of Washington, no more votes for sale, vote for the people, no more phony/crony capitolism.
I am for that!
I am not defending Obama, only want to point out both sides, this is what makes todays decision by the Supreme court even more troubling, the deficits we see today are a form of corporate welfare, delivered by politicians, brought on by corporatist, believe me it will only get worse now that the Supreme court has said it is open season on politicians.
"Reagan proved deficits don't matter," Vice President Cheney said in 2002 when pushing for a fresh round of tax cuts. With this attitude in hand, Bush passed on a budgetary nightmare to his successor. Bush came into office with an advantage few presidents have enjoyed — a $230 billion surplus. But due to a $1.35 trillion tax cut in 2001, a $1.5 trillion tax cut in 2003, and a massive defense buildup through the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, Bush quickly blew through that surplus. The next president will "inherit a fiscal meltdown," Senate Budget Committee Chairman Kent Conrad (D-ND) warned in February 2008, as the Bush administration projected a budget deficit of $400 billion. After the financial crisis emerged last fall and the ensuing bailouts, Bush's budget deficit ballooned to over $1 trillion. As Center for American Progress Vice President for Economic Policy Michael Ettlinger explained, budget deficits swelled under Bush because his supply-side tax policies slashed revenues while failing to deliver strong economic performance
It will be a lot more difficult in light of the Supreme court decision passed down today, I think this day will go down in history as the day Democracy lost!!
I want to limit the federal goverments access to funds and force a balanced budget no matter who is in power.
Having said that I thought the GOP spent like druken sailors, until I saw the Dem's in action, those clowns are in a completely different league.
Bush would not reinstate the tax on the richest 5%, but he sure had no problem finding other to cut.
To fund his war and preserve his tax cuts for the rich, President Bush cut vital services for low- and moderate-income Americans, including child-care assistance for low-income families, low-income rental assistance programs, and total funding for K-12 education.
He was such a great Christian wasn't he? I am not for additional spending, but please reinstate the tax on the richest 5%.
We have seen what this country would be like under a DEMOCRATIC FACIST government this past year with no checks and balances to ultimate power…….
Now with the lose of the DEMOCRATIC SUPER MAJORITY we hear the DEMOCRATS say……
"Oh…..we're sorry…..we'll be more moderate and listen to our citizens……. "
DEMOCRATS ARE JUST TRYING TO SAVE THEIR ARSES……
FOOL ME ONCE……SHAME ON YOU…….FOOL ME TWICE……..SHAME ON ME…..
WE ARE THROWING OFF THE CHAINS AND ARE RUNNING FROM THE DEMOCRATIC PLANTATION.
If you aren't defending Obama, what are you doing?
Your numbers are fairy tales hockeynation. Moron, have you ever heard of "No Child Left Behind?" Yeah, that was Ted Kennedy's education bill, THE MOST EXPENSIVE EDUCATION BILL IN THE HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES.
I would never defend George W because he signed it into law. W is a loser and so are you.
There lies the biggest scam of all time, the Federal Reserve, which is not Federal, and has no reserves!!! The government goes to these private banksters, and asks for a billion dollars in order to fund a war, so the Fed prints the money out of thin air, then charges the tax payer interest to pay it back, as if it were their money to begin with!! Why not Federalize the Fed??? I believe the last president to mention federalizing the fed was JFK, and we all know what happened to him!!
"a biblical beating'….very funny! Especially coming from The_Great_Satan!
Now Cowboy, be nice….
There is plenty of blame to go around for the mess we are in. I just find it so strange that the mess was much smaller in the past and the people we chose along the way who 'promised' to 'fix' the mess have really screwed the pooch. We never seem to wind up "better off".
AS A FORMER USN SAILOR, I RESENT THE HELL OUT OF THIS REMARK. I GOT HAMMERED ALL THE TIME (STILL DO!) AND I NEVER SPENT LIKE THE GOP.
AND I SURE AS HELL NEVER, EVER, EVER SPENT LIKE THE DEMOSH!TS.
I couldn't agree more. When I look at a leftwing bottom feeder I see a scumbag that votes to limit my freedoms, a scumbag that votes to confiscate my wealth, a scumbag that votes in perverts to brainwash our children, a scumbag that votes to limit my free speech, a scumbag that votes to add regulations to my business, a scumbag that votes to destroy my healthcare coverage, a scumbag that votes to appease terrorists, a scumbag that……..
I'm ready to destroy them.

yes and in particular, I was reacting to Obama's comments about big banks today. I actually agree with some of what he said (e.g. there is a role for government to play in regards to oversite of the banking industry.) Unfortunately, I think Obama is merely attempting to divert attention away from his political troubles with healthcare reform. So much of his public policy is designed to keep banks from investing at a time when we need to do just the opposite
Tell me, please, what "democracy" are you referring to? Personally, I live in what is supposed to be a Republic. Look them both up (democracy and republic) and then, and ONLY then, can we begin an informed debate about the real problems we are facing.
I can't (and WON'T) defend either side of the "aisle" for their reprehensible actions over the last, let's say, nine, or so, decades. No American should! As long as there are left, right or center advocates, there can be NO Republic. The men who founded this country (yes, at the risk of sounding like a Constitutional Constructionist) had varying opinions on how this nation should be governed but, they knew that the way it WAS being ruled over was wrong. And in that common ground, they were able to lay aside their own differences to fight and die for something better. Are we so self centered that we must argue over what is less worse?
Don't lose sight of the fact that choosing between the lesser of two evils, is still evil!
The German newspaper — Der Speigel — threw Obama under the bus.
I'm beginning to think that Obama is just plain stupid. I was suspicious when all the left wing media sycophants kept referring to him as an intellectual and constitutional scholar. All that hype sounded like smoke to me. Now I am convinced that he is either stuck on stupid or just does not understand any events outside of his little bubble of far left advisors and confidants. His remarks yesterday sent the stock market into a giant slide and today there is an uncertain pall ov er the econ sector as we wait to see if Mr. Intellectual will further hamper and intrude upon the free market system by imposing stifling rules on the banking industry. We should of known he was dense when he did not cut taxes and then rein in government beauacracies in an attempt to stimulate the economy. It doesn't take a great genius to figure out that that is the way to get things going. I'm not even going to mention his political asides like blaming everything on Bush and talking to the American people as if they were all nitwits.
IT'S STILL NOT OVER! WATCH the GLENN BECK show TONIGHT! The PROGRESSIVES have been around since MARX and continue to deceive the world, especially ISRAEL! They DO NOT quit and use any and every format necessary to win! The MARX MANIFESTO "SAYS" it all! It's winning that is necessary, not HOW you get there!!! IT'S NOT HOW YOU GET THERE, IT'S JUST WINNING THAT MATTERS! It's REALLY all about DESTROYING the REAL "ISRAEL" (JACOB'S TROUBLE) and "LUCIFER" ALWAYS USES THE SAME TECHNIQUES!!! IF NOT FOR YHWH'S (BIBLE IS ABOUT THE "HEBREWS", "NOT" ABOUT "ROME AND THE GREEKS"!) TWO (2) WITNESSES, WHICH ARE TO RISE UP AGAINST THE "BEAST" NO FLESH SHALL SURVIVE! THE "PROGRESSIVE MOVEMENT" IS LUCIFER'S PLAN TO DESTROY ISRAEL, INCLUDING JUDAH! I FEAR THAT WE'VE SEEN NOTHING YET! THE PROGRESSIVES USE THE "MARX MANIFESTO" TO DESTROY EVERYTHING IN THEIR WAY, ESPECIALLY LIES, LIES, AND MORE LIES!!! I SO WISH THAT THIS AGENDA WAS NOT BEING LED BY A "BLACK" MAN, ALTHOUGH THAT IS THE WAY THE TWO WHITE GUYS (ONE, BEING BILL AIRES (sp))) FORMING THE "WEATHERMEN" OUT OF CHICAGO PLANNED IT: "A BLACK" REVOLUTION, LED BY TWO WHITES!!! THIS IS WHERE CHARLES MANSON (REMEMBER HIM?) IN CALIFORNIA TOOK OFF FROM! TRAGIC, BUT TRUE!
The Democracy that I refer to is the one that includes equality and freedom, Republic is defined as a representative Democracy.
What I meant by my comment, and the point you did not address, was that the Supreme court decision giving unlimited buying power to corporate and special interest groups, will most certainly end our equality, and our freedom to choose our own representatives.
I would be curious to know whether you agree with the decision of the Supreme court?
I picture Glen Beck getting his talking points from a group of pranksters, each trying to outdo the next one, saying I am going to tell Glen Beck the sky is falling, then watch him go on TV and make a complete ASS of himself, all the the while the prankster are laughing up a storm, saying I can't believe he just said that on national TV.
Thanks for the kind words, coming from you, I will take it as a compliment!
Your ideas are just another way to punish success, redistribute wealth, and reward failure.
I am not sure if you are on the "Where is my free stuff" side of the coin of "I should be in charge of everyones money" side of the coin, so just for informations sake are you a thief or a tyrant?
People that dont make profit dont create jobs, I have yet to see a poor man create a job or the government hand out anything that it did not steal from someone else.
As to Christianity please show me the place that Christ said "Steal from those that have and give to those that want"
Yes Obama wants the too big to fail to fail, that is the point, there is no such thing as to big to fail, that is a lie and an illusion where in the end, we and our future generations pay for something we have no real ownership in. The corporate welfare must stop.
I thought I would recommend an excellent and quick read on the subject. The book is titled "After The Fall" by Nicole Galinas. It is concise and written in a way that I think is accessible to non-financial folks. As you point out, in terms of solutions, the harder part is weaning the government of their "too big to fail" mentality which Ms. Galinas alludes to in her summations.
He doesn't need to prove anything we already know he is ineligible, he freely admits that he is a dual citizen. Dual citizens are not allowed as per Article II of the Constitution. That is why our Founders, of whom some were dual citizens themselves inserted the Grandfather clause into Article II, which allowed them and others a generational exemption from the natural born citizen requirement in Article II to allow themselves acess to the Presidency while protecting it into the future. They were VERY concerned about dual allegiances and foreign influences in the Presidency. Only citizens who are born on US soil to 2 US citizen parents qualify Constitutionally.
For one Lorbin, we have to stay with in the law. We have to organize, galvanize into a movement. That would require all participants to get the advice of a good accountant, tax attorney, highly recognized tax preparer, someone whose job is nothing but knowing the tax code 24/7. We would ask our managers, payroll dept, hr office whomever is responsible for issuing you a paycheck every week and you ask to change our tax deduction employment status to exempt, or to change our deductions to the maximum allowed by law. Stay within the rule of law, you can't spend the extra money you receive but put it in an escrow account set up as a protest. We would like to pay and have the means to pay our taxes but won't until the Government stops the spending, maybe we can use that 60000+ page tax code to our advantage!
Thank you Tennessee-Jed, I will have a look at After the Fall.
Sounds good but will only work if millions get on board with it. I will be looking in this more…cause folks may just get to the point of actually holding back on Caesar!
Just chalk those kind words up to the fact that I suck at ice skating.
Agreed. His birth certificate cannot prove his eligibility — it can only further disprove it should it show a foreign birth. Even if he was born in Hawaii, he is not a natural born citizen due to his non-US citizen father. As the most powerful man on the planet, Obama may in the end be able to "produce" a piece of paper showing a Hawaiian birth, but there does not exist a document which will show Obama Senior to be a US citizen.
Please watch some of the hockey being played at the Olympics, it will be some of the best hockey ever played, Canada is probably the best on paper, but the US has a great young talented group of payers, as well as the best goal tending the tournament has to offer, the Russians and Swedes, will also be fun to watch, I promise you will not be disappointed!!!
Before the Bush tax cuts, corporations would reinvest their capital rather than pay tax's, which in turn created jobs, since the tax cuts, rather than reinvest, corporations gave out obscene bonuses to their CEO's, why reinvest when you can pocket the money? As far as Christianity is concerned, was it not Christ how said that we should look out for the least amongst us?
I will watch hockeynation. Competition is always exciting when it is competitive.
I already have mine, when are you getting yours?
That is the other reason for the misdirection from the Obama camp, one day he will voluntarily show his Birth Certificate and then everyone will breath a sigh of relief and all other inquiries will be shut down because they are only looking at whether or not he was born here, he probably was. As we know there is the parentage question involved in the Constitutional qualification for President. The natural born citizen clause speaks to place of birth and parentage, the things that no Man OR LAW can change. That is the beauty of it's protection by our very clever Founders.
For sure that will NOT come up. Everyone will say, he was born here and that is good enough for me. They won't be asking the all important question-IS HE A NATURAL BORN CITIZEN AS PER ARTICLE II OF THE CONSTITUTION??? I would image that most people wonder why they have to since our Government, who is supposed to be asking these questions as a part of candidate vetting do not. The plain and very obvious fact is THERE ARE PEOPLE IN OUR GOVERNMENT THAT WANT TO USURP THE CONSTITUTION, in all ways until it is destroyed. There are also those in our Government who may not agree, but are content to stand and watch it happen and not lift a finger to stop it. They are just as complicit in my book as the ones actively seeking its destruction.
I agree with entirely on the not of profits, this is where we are being defrauded of millions of dollars! Wealthy individuals fund their pet (freedom stealing) projects through Not for Profits as a tax shelter. It is Government sanctioned money laundering and thievery! Organizations like ACORN and their affiliates should also lose their Government funding, their not for profit status ( they are partisan, who do they think they're kidding), and their tax exempt status. They are defrauding the taxpayers. In terms of SSI, food stamps, Medicare fraud needs to be investigated fully and eliminate the fraud! Government needs to cut their employees, eliminate 50% of them. The Military needs to be increased, we are fighting a war.
Well said MeJane.
To what you said about "things that no man or law can change", I would add this: a natural born citizen is someone who attains his citizenship by the laws of nature and not of man. If you are born in the US to citizen parents (plural), then you do not need any human law (not even the 14th amendment) to establish your citizenship. Your citizenship is self-evident and "natural" — you are a natural born citizen!
To what you said about being born here and that being good enough, I would at this: If all that mattered to our Founding Fathers was for presidents to be born in the US, then they would have used the term native-born (meaning "of a specified place by birth"). But they did not. They used the term natural born citizen because being born in the US was not enough, they wanted presidents who were born to US citizens (plural).
What CEO's are paid are none of your business, but then your a progressive so everything is your business isnt it?
Try again, Christ did not compel people to participate in charity, he had little respect for tax collectors or slackers, and stated that if a man does not work he does not eat.
The poor in the times of Christ would be people who could not work and were desperately poor because of disability or circumstance, not those who choose to live off the largess of others or were jealouse of their success.
What you call "Poor" he would call spoiled and lazy.
I'm not jealous of what anyone else has. More power to them. But I'm very afraid of the power of "big money". I'm much more afraid of "big money" than "big government". We need to take back our government and make it work for us (citizens) again. Look at the recent Supreme Court decision allowing corporations to spend unlimited amounts of money to influence elections in the name of free speech. Corporations are not citizens. They are not people. But they are run by people, very powerful people who are not elected and they have no responsibility to our country or society except to abide by our laws. And they already have too much power in the writing of those laws to benefit themselves. Does that make me anti-capitalist? I don't see how. But if we let the wealthy, the powerful, and the well connected take over our government, how will we ever get it back?
Banks and lending institutions should be able to lend to whomever they want to but they should face the consequences if those loans default. It was lack of oversight that allowed them to escape those consequences. I hope we've learned a lesson so that in the future, when a bank fails, we let it fail.
I would call Bush's plan a "redistribution of wealth" to the wealthy from all the rest of us. I agree with Warren Buffet who said (paraphrased) that he believes it is a disgrace that his secretary who makes 60k a year pays a higher percentage of her income in taxes than he does. At least when someone like Warren Buffet points this out, no one can accuse him of "class warfare".
Amen!
big money owns big government. Lobbyists contol most politicians, both Republicans and Democrats. Obama, for example is controlled by trial lawyers, big labor and George Soros.
Corporate welfare-the enormous and myriad subsidies, bailouts, giveaways, tax loopholes, debt revocations, loan guarantees, discounted insurance and other benefits conferred by government on business-is a function of political corruption. Corporate welfare programs siphon funds from appropriate public investments, subsidize companies ripping minerals from federal lands, enable pharmaceutical companies to gouge consumers, perpetuate anti-competitive oligopolistic markets, injure our national security, and weaken our democracy.
At a time when the national GDP is soaring, one in five children lives in deep poverty, one might expect that a public effort to curtail welfare would focus on cutting big handouts to rich corporations, not small supports for poor individuals. But somehow the invocations of the need for stand-on-your-own-two-feet responsibility do not apply to large corporations.
When you refer to living off the largess, are you referring to the single mom working 2 sometimes 3 jobs, just so that she can put food on the table, and have cloths on her kids backs, is this the spoiled and lazy you refer to, or is it the multi millionaire, who has benefited from tax breaks, and government subsidies, who spends millions lobbying to ensure that he does not loose any of his tax payer hand outs.
You are all over the place with your corporate hate here. Pick one topic and talk about that becasue this mishmash of "wrongs" done by American business is not even addressable or close to being honest.
Here a few ethical truths the left has to ignore to sleep at night
1. If you make a choice you should pay for the consequences
2. You are not "owed" anything by anyone unless you have a contract with them
3. You don’t earn it you don’t own it
4. Theft is theft regardless of who you steal it from, why you steal it or who you give the loot to.
Poverty has been stable regardless of handout programs for the last 50 years.
Living off the largess of others means that you are receiving benefit that you did not earn, it could be because of bad mistakes that YOU made, or just YOUR general laziness, or YOUR greed, see point 4.
Misuse of government money goes way, way, beyond simple handout programs, regardless I am under no moral obligation to make your life better than you can make it yourself whether you are an individual or a politician.
Your argument is flawed. If everyone were taxed at 10% people who made more would still pay more in dollars.
Letting people or corporations keep their money is not "redistributing" anything, it's not YOURS to redistribute, if you did not earn it you do not OWN it. Sorry thats so hard for the left to figure out.
If Warren is so worried about his secratary then let him raise her salary, instead he wants the rest of us to do it for him via lower middle class handouts.
Typical lefist BS
