Boxing Day Open Thread: Trenton Edition
by PubliusThis morning, in 1776, General Washington led a rag-tag Continental Army across the Delaware and surprised the Hessians in the Battle of Trenton. Though final victory was still 5 years away, the victory at Trenton provided an important morale boost in the Revolution’s darkest hours.

Is Boxing Day the day that you put all of the bad presents back in the Box and bring them to the store for a refund?

Washington who could have been the Countries first King and instead was maybe our greatest president. He knew how to lay it on the line for the welfare of the country. He did not do it for fame or fortune but for the freedom of the people.
Washington, Lincoln, Kennedy and Regan all had one thing in common, the welfare of the people and knowing that if the government got out of the way and created a level playing field there is nothing We The People can't do. We were never a nation of gifts from the government our largest gift is the same one a parent gives a child, the independence of failure and success.
A sad event, one of the many which led, by blood, sweat & tears, by death, actually, to the today's USA, a far, far relative of his proud parents, the European Nations. God save America, the need is great! And bless her, too!
Yes, Washington is rightfully famous for this crossing. On the other hand, Obama will be famous for his double-crossing.
We need a morale boost about now, but there is nothing on the horizon.
Cowboy, the best morale boost on the horizon is the fact that America WILL NOT stand for forced socialism!! WE WILL fight!! Just keep thinking positive thoughts, as thoughts form into 'things' …we will survive this, just like our ancestors did!
No, Boxing Day was traditionally the day on which the wealthier folks gave boxes of presents (usually practical ones) to the tradesmen and laborers. Originally it was the servants' Christmas celebration, since they had to work all day on Dec 25, and the practice of giving them their gifts extended to the poorer classes generally.
The early Puritans/Christians did not keep Christmas or Easter. The area of biggest disagreement was whether to keep The Sabbath as Saturday or Sunday. They used The Geneva Bible Translation instead of the King James, as the Geneva Bible re-inforced the teaching that we are to resist evil, including govt systems or evil Kings. Otherwise, leave the area of jurisdiction.
Sometimes I wonder if anyone still has that kind of courage. Can you even imagine how hard sticking to such hardships for so many years must have been? We do owe them a lot.
Instead of looking for another George Washington, I say we each become our own Washington. There are so many Patriots looking to be lead, so I say lead.
Take the same spiritual "stance" as George Washington, as he realized that our enemies are first fought on the spiritual plane, acdg to the scriptures. George Washington's Famous Phrase was 'SAIL ON!"
It's highly unusal that a Great Land Warrior would use the sailor's lingo: SAIL ON! But we must SAIL ON.
It would be hard to find a person of that fortitude today…All Americans have been infected by the desease that is now killing us…The main goal of socilist was to not only break down barriers within government but within the family unit also…the cosequences of 60 years of social engineering is evident to all who willing to see..Finding a leader from a tainted pool is never easy….How long before the leaders arrive?…Most great historical leaders came from war..not an easy fact to live with considering what we now face as a nation.
hey, It's Christmas Eve … put some news out so no one will pay attention !!!!
Please AMERICA write your Congressmen !!!!

That picture of Washington crossing the Delaware is my favorite one. His words of Encouragement at the time were 'SAIL ON!"……"SAIL ON!"…..We need to take a look back now, at our Christian Heritage of our Country and Right the Ship, throw the anti-god socialists overboard as they hi-jacked our Constitutional ship, ok. So, far Washington went further than us….We're just getting started, We make the times change, we are starting to get somewhat organized….We're voting them all out in 11 months….The Daley, Chicago politicians recently mentioned that they are considering to move their "domocratic" more towards the center..
IT'S TOO LATE FOR THEM, …..So, keep getting the word out that THEIR LIES ARE IN SERIES AND OUR TRUTH IS IN PARALLEL….AND IT STAANDS ALONE.
There will be no one throwing anyone off the boat on our side. I believe that what Gregory refers to is the Judeo(sp?)-Christian values that influenced our Founding Documents.
Socialists being anti-god has been a part of that credo for a long time, because with the dissolution of religion the people would look to the government for their direction/salvation. As opposed to a strong, independent, people who look to something greater than self to guide them, have no need of the state to tell them what to do.
Whether that greater than is religion, the founding principals of our country, good old fashioned common sense, or the Golden Rule doesn't matter.
This is one we need to win to take back what is ours.
Thanks for the good words! Truly I appreciate them.
You're right about the anti-God attitude of the socialists, too. And theirs is a very hateful unGodliness, because they hold religious people in contempt. I'm happy to work beside and vote for my Christian brothers and sisters to overthrow this tyranny we're struggling against. The best people I know are Christians and Jews (although I also know some really nice atheists, as well).
Thank you again for replying. I'm in it to win it. There are tough times ahead, and we'll need all the fortitude we can get to weather them.
Who knew?

The only challenging body of water Obama is every likely cross, is a water trap on some fancy golf course.
lulz
Edit: The only challenging body of water Obama is ever likely to cross, is a water trap on some fancy golf course.
I hope no one is tries to throw this atheist Conservative overboard.
This is a political struggle that we MUST WIN to remain free. Portraying it as a religious struggle is, in my view, inaccurate. I also think it distracts from the actual problem.
The Christian Bible is a guiding document for many Americans. I have no problem with that, because we're free to have any religion, or even none at all. However, the U.S. Constitution is the guiding document that Barack Obama swore to protect and defend. The Constitution has been trampled beneath the feet of these lying politicians. I swear, sometimes I hate Pelosi and Reid more than I hate Obama. I'm not a hateful person, but these people are truly inspiring in that regard.
One of the POWs was a 16 year old Hessian named George Spade. He was conscripted/kidnapped off the street in Kassel in Hesse and wound up in Trenton. After the war he stayed in America.
Forty percent of the men in Washington's army were Scots-Irish. George Washington was even moved to say, that if the cause was lost everywhere wlse he would take a last stand among the Scots-Irish of his native Virginia.
We are still here.
