Christmas Back On! Build-A-Bear Surrenders, Pulls Videos
by PubliusYesterday, we brought you the disturbing story of Build-a-Bear’s on-line video series warning kids that the North Pole may completely disappear in just a few days, threatening Christmas. (Average December temperature in the North Pole is around minus 40 degrees Farenheit.) Needless to say, the story received a lot of attention and sparked several organized efforts to boycott the company’s products. By the end of what must have been a terrible, horrible, no-good, very bad day in Build-a-Bearville, CEO and Founder Maxine Clark published the following letter to the public:
We welcome the news that the insipid videos have been removed. We’ll have much more to say on this soon and will mostly just let Ms. Clark’s words speak for themselves. It seems Build-a-Bear still doesn’t quite get where and how they went astray here.

FFS, they caught the blowback and yanked the videos, what more do you want? We didn't even have to boycott they just got flamed and yanked the videos. I think they probably are ashamed. At least they should be ashamed they entered into partisan issues when they're trying to do business for profit.
Maxine Clark founded build-a-bear for the primary reason of making a profit, period. It had nothing to do with kids other than working out how to monetize them. Someone thought the green angle was a good idea, they tried it, they got torched for it, and now they're dumping it.

Now that we've done a little wake-up activity with Build a Bear, it's time to hit all the other places that are hotbeds of environmental/political hypocrisy…like the Bronx Zoo and all the other places that push on children the notion that human beings are destroying the planet and the animals….I've decided to withhold my hard earned money from all these "green" gonads because money speaks loudest of all to them after all…that's what AGW is all about–follow the money trail….

Didn't ANYONE actually READ what the CEO of BuildABear said?
They didn't "PULL" the ad. They said that it had completed its run (as well as accomplished their goal of propagandize the children who used their web site) so they were done with it for this year.
They didn't do anything to reassure the children that this was just a story and not propaganda pushing AlGore's Global Warming fantasies. They didn't admit that their own company is a major generator of CO2 which is now designated as a "greenhouse gas".
All the CEO did was try to cut down on the loss of revenue her scheme will ultimately cause her company.
Sp anyone who thinks that they PULLED their ads is kidding themselves. They did no such thing and she said exactly that in her letter.
Then to add further insult she ended her letter by saying she uses customer's suggestions when designing their sales campaigns. Does ANYONE actually believe that customers had suggested that developing these scare tactics toward little children as a way of expanding their sales?
Only in Obamaland could that kind of statement be believed.

I was co-hosting a Build-A-Bear Birthday party in January. . .no longer.
The party was cancelled yesterday and moved to another venue. . .I will not step foot in
a store that oversteps itself in an attempt indoctrinate with my children. The store sells toys –
but they got caught pretending it was either; a political movement, elected office holder,
and/or a not-for profit philanthropy – NOT!
The store, at which I had made arrangements and cancelled, was very upset with me. . .I explained
why and but was told it was not their fault — rather their corporate. So Sorry — cancelled!
I next called the company customer service line and was on hold 15 minutes. A very fiustered,
yet polite young woman took down my message, for the CEO, of the reasons of my in-store
party cancellation. . . .ENOUGH is ENOUGH — Ms Clark!
I called Build-A-Bear today and told them what I thought about their webisodes with a climate change agenda. I won't spend a dime there and I'll be sure to tell all my friends the same.
Exactly-it was a non-apology.
Here is my response to Ms Clark:
I have been to Build-a-Bear several times with my 4 year-old daughter to create fun and lovable dolls. However, after viewing the propaganda filled Santa Climate Change video, I will no longer be taking my daughter to your establishment. I have reached my limit on how many kid-focused business use their products to indoctrinate young children. Teaching children about being responsible and respectful of their environment is a perfectly good message. Teaching as fact, that humans are the cause of global climate change and that we will be the cause of the end of “cute and cuddly” animals is not only offensive, it is irresponsible. As a scientist, I try to teach my children using actual factual evidence, not political conjecture. Hopefully others will feel as I do and you will feel it in your “wallet” and consider more carefully the next time you decide to use children to push your political agendas.

not only do i boycott certain retailers, tv programs and so forth because i disagree with how they choose to use profits earned (ben and jerry's anyone?) – but i will often contact the sponsors of these tv programs and such to let them know that i'll not buy their product, and tell them the reason why. does it make any difference? who knows – but i do it with a clean conscience.

Me too, I got an email from them telling me they pulled the stuff off the site. I discussed it with my 9 year old, who loves their bears, and she said "they are over-priced anyway, let's not go there any more, there are other bears". Now that is the future of America. I am proud of her.

Thank you for your email and candid comments regarding our animated holiday webisodes. I want to let you know that we in no way intended to make a political statement about global climate change with this video and I deeply regret any misunderstanding or offense that it may have caused.It will not happen again.
Our intention with the polar bear story was to provide a fun holiday story that also raised children's awareness of very simple things that they could do to make a difference on our own individual ways. It is the same as we did with our holiday webisode last year where Santa's timely departure was endangered by a giant snowstorm. In hindsight, we can see how some could have read more than was intended in this year's storyline. So that you know, the webisodes concluded this week with Santa successfully leaving on his journey to deliver gifts around the world. The webisodes are no longer available on the site.
I started Build-A-Bear Workshop as a place for families and children to come for a fun experience combining imagination, creativity and empowerment. I have always placed great value in the trust that our Guests have in our brand. We listen to parents and kids about topics that they are interested in and care about. Why not just get rid of the cable or dish service period. Read a book, play games with your children, learn a musical instrament, start a hobby. Talk to your spouse, children instead of staring passively into a screen. yes you can live this way and enjoy it. TV is a waste of time, nothing gained, only time lost. For news purposes, the internet is better and faster anyway. My next project, learning how to spell better!!!! For the record, 51 years old, never have had cable or sat service and live in an outlying area with very limited free TV choices…2 channels when the weather is right.
It is unfortunate that Build-A-Bear decided to end the stroy line. I was looking forward to the next installments – "How Santa uses Cap and Trade to reduce greenhouse emissions at his workshop" and the ever popular "Santa's elves join SEIU and demand health care reform."

We had purchased one of these overpriced, accessory-laden bears while at Disneyland Anaheim a couple years ago. The new-age "life investment" ceremony performed over the bear after it was built was definitely sickening.
