ACORN Qualifies for Funding in Senate Health Care Bill

Senator Roland Burris is claiming credit for a provision in Harry Reid’s “manager’s amendment,” unveiled Saturday morning, that could funnel money to ACORN through the health care bill…
The provision he cites, found on pages 240 through 248 of the manager’s amendment, requires that six different agencies each establish an “Office of Minority Health.” The agencies are the “Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Health Resources and Services Administration, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the Food and Drug Administration, and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.”…
According to a Senate legislative aide, the scandal-plagued Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now could qualify for grants under this provision. ACORN would also qualify for funding on page 150 of the underlying Reid bill, which says that “community and consumer-focused nonprofit groups” may receive grants to “conduct public education activities to raise awareness of the availability of qualified health plans.”
Earlier this year, Congress passed and the president signed into law a ban on federal funding for ACORN, but a judge ruled that that law was unconstitutional. If a higher court reverses that ruling, ACORN may be prohibited from receiving funds through the Office of Minority Health earmark. But according to the Senate legislative aide, ACORN would still “absolutely” qualify for federal funding through the provision in the underlying Reid bill because the anti-ACORN appropriations amendment would not apply to funds provided through the health care exchanges.

Look, I love the GOP as much as the next Conservative…but if our guys had been willing to play ball instead of stonewall this bill…maybe, just maybe, we could have got consessions on things like ACORN funding.

Well, it's not going t happen when they are in control. We try to write to as many representatives as possible, my wife was in Washington at the last rally, we try talking to our neighbors (not a pleasant experience in our bluest of blue states), we avoid state run media, watch old movies, go to the local tea parties, teach our three children what's what, I worked day and night and emptied – really emptied our wallet for Republican candidates, which at least gives us access, which we DO use, – this is what it takes, and more. Money, time and effort.
They ARE convinced the people are stupid – I've heard it right from their mouths – and with the State run media 100% behind them, who is there to do anything about it? OBAMA as much as told the people who support him and the rest not to watch Fox – who else is there?

The language in the bill does not guarantee ACORN squat as what is being manufactured to believe. The final bill HAS NOT passed the Senate yet and it still has to go back into various committees for House / Senate negotiations before the Bill gets final House passage.

ACORN & SEIU are the thugs and lobbying arm of the non profit special interest. Many believe ACORN is using the non profit foundations, but it is truly a mutually beneficial relationship. Tax exempt foundations and the very wealthy non profit chaities cannot lobby, but they certainy give enough to these thugs to do their dirty work and make certain the taxpayers fund all the programs that benefit them financially. Non profit charities can stuff their donations into their endowment funds to grow wealth and power and foundations get lobbyist to direct taxpayer funds to their for profit businesses like the drug companies.
The non profit and tax exepmt are a greater danger to the American people than anyone realizes. Wake up and stop givng a single dime to the national charities, they will only use it to control your life!

Yes! I believe this health care legislation is the absolute greatest Christmas gift to insurance companies imaginable. It accomplishes nothing but guarantees that insurance companies will have 30 million new customers to put the screws to any way they choose except pre-existing conditions. Big woop! Why bother? If they weren't prepared to do a massive and meaningful overhaul than they should have just left it alone. In the end, what they end up with is nothing more than a simple amendment that should have been attached to another piece of legislation as a simple and common procedure.
No party has been given the majority position that the Dems have now based on how miserably the Republicans drove this country into a ditch and what do they do with this filibuster proof congress? They couldn't pass a fortune cookie. The Democrat base is different than the Republican base. The Republican base will stay loyal no matter how stupid and destructive their leaders are (GW Bush, Palin etc.) where as the Democrat base will not remain loyal when they feel their "Change they were supposed to believe in" is not being delivered and their really is no excuse as to why.
It's smart to wait until a midterm election year to put through meaningful legislation to maintain control and minimize election losses. Bush did the same thing in 2002 but this health care debacle is going to cause the Dems some problems in the long wrong. The health care legislation had a positive approval rating until the Senate mutilated it and then the poll numbers on it dove mainly due to progressives who were pissed.
