Big Government has received what is claimed to be a leaked DOJ memo that was allegedly sent yesterday from Eric Holder’s Department of Justice to Defense Secretary Robert Gates. Memo below:
Presumably, the inmates at Guantanamo Bay are there because they are believed to be a threat to national security. How moving them into the United States then is a good idea is beyond our powers of reasoning. While we are well aware of the Corleone advice to keep one’s friend close and enemies closer, we’re pretty certain it wasn’t meant as national security advice.

Well, at least it's fitting that Obama is screwing the citizens of his home state first and foremost. After all, they're the idiots that elected him to the Senate in the first place and dragged the rest of us into this hell hole.
I think handing out maps in the prison would help them find Jarret, Ayers and Rev. Wright so they can start at all of the best places just like Obama did.
Take them from Gitmo, drop them off inside Chicago City Hall. We'll see how well these suspected "military" terrorists do against the known liberal political terrorists. Send some to the Illinois State Legislature as well.

Wonderful! I am about 20 miles east of Thomson. Let me tell you something about this little village: very small, no real infrastructure to deal with ANY sort of 'incident', about 15 miles upriver from Cordova Nuclear Power plant. Not too far from the Rock Island Arsenal. Lots of good targets for 'outside' influences. Many simple agricultural folk who don't lock their doors at night. Small schools, ripe for a hostage incident. You get the picture. But, I guess Dicky Durbin feels we are a good, safe place for these enemy combatants!

Unless you live here, I doubt you could have experienced what complete lack of trust in state government and your national reps is. You can count on practically any major decision to kick the taxpayers and their rights in the teeth; after a while, there's no money left for the dentist.

This statement isn't from view point of Gitmo, which I think is entirely constitutional, but I don't see an awful of politicians on the right standing up for constitutional integrity either, at least when they're in control.

There is also a nuclear facility just south of Thompson in Cordova, IL which is about 25 miles away. I live about 20 miles south of that. Thanks a lot Barrack … this makes no sense. Gitmo was just a way for the last administration to try to avoid having to apply any level of judicial process. It was a method to avoid law, not to find justice for the crimes committed against the USA. It never should have been used for that purpose in the first place. The people there will now receive the full brunt of all that they deserve, and we should be happy for that. I can't wait to see KSM executed for planning 9/11. Nine years too late, IMHO.

My second great grandfather died at Camp Douglas, Illinois while a prisoner of war . He died in February 1865, and is buried along with 4000 other POWs in a mass grave in Oak Woods Cemetery in Chicago. As far as I am concerned, Chicago can go to hell. They deserve these guys.

Just so other folks can know: The garrison at Ft Leavenworth KS supports the US Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) by managing and maintaining the home of the US Army Combined Arms Center (CAC). CAC’s mission involves leader development, collective training, Army doctrine and battle command (current and future).
Fort Leavenworth also accommodates the Defense Dept’s only maximum security prison, the US Disciplinary Barracks. In addition, the Fort Leavenworth Garrison supports numerous tenant organizations that directly and indirectly relate to the functions of the CAC, including the Command & General Staff College and the Foreign Military Studies Office.
The upshot of all *that* is that, while the max-security prison at Leavenworth is perfectly *capable* of containing Gitmo detainees, transferring them there would force all those other operations to move elsewhere for reasons of *genuine* National Security, and I am *NOT* kidding.
There’s also a whole base full of civilian staffers, plus military dependents (spouses & kids who attend K-12 schools ON THE BASE), all of which wold be irresistible targets for any future attempts to break the bad guys out (think Ft Hood on *STEROIDS*)…
Hence, for eminent and preemptive reasons deriving from serious national security implications to sheer practicality, Ft Leavenworth is simply NOT a workable solution to the detainee problem! And if the DoD’s only max-security facility can’t take them, where else can you logically, rationally and reasonably hope to put them?
Which returns us to the original point: WHAT THE H3## IS WRONG WITH KEEPING THEM AT GUANTANAMO??!

Actually I think it is a good idea to have them here. German prisoners during WWII were held at a Army Fortification on the North side of Milwaukee, WI.
The place was a real fortress, it was just North & West of North Sherman Blvd & West Silver Spring Dr. Course at the time the citizens of Milwaukee were never told about it. The building has been torn down but the land still owned by the U S Goverment

I can see the logic here. Obama gets to finally win one of his objectives by closing Gitmo. However the backlash from this one victory will cause him and his cronies some serious problems in the coming months. Ok, first off, this will not be a civilian prison, it will be DoD prison. Secondly, the DoD does not have the authority to move these prisoners into the U.S. Only the U.S. Marshalls can do this.

I have a weekend house in Galena and a lot of the locals believe that the jobs/money from Uncle Sugar will bring will be a boon to the county. A lot of those same people believe that it’s the government’s job to take care of it’s little lambs. Strategically the location is a nightmare as the prison is 1/5 of a mile to the Mississippi River and very close to the Quad Cities nuclear plant and 45 miles from the Dixon plant. These same local folks are fighting tooth and nail, with all legal means available, a large dairy operation which would like to locate in rural Jo Daviess county. Go figure, they don;t want 2000 cows and 200 jobs, but are eager to play host to 25 of the world’s most dangerous terrorists who will bring the focus of a million Islamofascists to Western Illinois. Poor decisions from state government once again, it is clear that Illinois is a failing organization with inept and corrupt leadership with their only claim to fame is that they managed to export it to Washington, DC.
One wing will be DOD. This will be for the terrorists. The other wings will be for civilians, and be run under the fed dept of prisons, with federal prison guards. There's no where in Thomson to house workers, btw, They'll have to commute from Clinton(not many, small city), the Quads, maybe Rockford. So in case of a problem, don't look for rapid response time from off-duty workers, they'll be up to fifty miles away.

Here are the facts. A friend of mine is a deportation officer. They will eventually get ordered deported. Their country will not take them back. They will claim asylum. Supreme court ruled a couple years ago it is unlawful to detain someone for more than 180 days waiting for deportation. They get released on the street with govt benefits. Once country will take them back (usually never) they get a run letter in the mail. They disappear with the other 18 million illegals. remember the Mariel cuban scum that Carter let in? Once they rape and murder and do their time in US, they go through this process. Cuba to this day still will not take them back.
Get you congressman or senators to object if possible. Items published in the Federal Register that go unchallenged have the effect of law after 60 days. It is doubtful that my congressman will object in as much as he is one of the two who took the oath and were sworn in using a book other that the bible.

There is a rather large matter in this that Mr. Obama has illegally transferred US Citizenship rights to foreigners. If readers will recall, it took an act of Congress to make Winston Churchill an honorary Citizen.
This is a gross violation of United States Laws by Sec. Robert Gates in transferring illegally, foreigners, into US custody. It is illegal for Attorney General Eric Holder to accept transfer of foreigners aka terrorists, into the United States and bestow upon them the rights of Citizenship of trial by jury.
There is no "trial by peers" as these are foreigners who are foreign terrorists.
This is not Mr. Obama disregarding his British birth as "expired" which is legally impossible. This is Mr. Obama violating his oath to the Office of the President and the Constitution in bestowing American rights on foreigners who are criminals.

I am not a lawyer but I fail to see how the referenced clause of the Constitution gives the President the power as alleged in the memo. There is one important phrase in that clause that the memo failed to include. The clause actually reads: "The President shall be Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States … WHEN CALLED INTO ACTUAL SERVICE OF THE UNITED STATES". Is the proposed action captured by that clause???

Not that I'm overly worried about it, because the security guards at the plant don't screw around (seriously, if you're not walking on a designated safe path, you're liable to get shot from a tower and it would be darn near impossible to get close enough to do any actual damage to the reactors), but still, this is just drawing unnecessary attention to these plants. I’m not saying this isn’t going to happen, but as someone extremely well versed in government memorandum and correspondence, this is not a valid memorandum.
First clue is the Memorandum For line, which IS properly formated, but if it’s coming from Atty. Gen. Holder of the DoJ, the Atty Gen wouldn’t be listed in the too line.
Second, Scope, Purpose, and Authority, while addressed, are not titled and in order in the memo.
Third, and most obvious, the section that dictates the Article of the Constitution fails to mention that the President is designated as: “…Commander-in-Chief of the Department of the Army, Department of the Navy, Department of the Air Force, and, in times of a congressionaly declared war, the Coast Guard of the United States…” Also, there is no reason to post in the Authority the Authorization of Military Force, as we are not launching a campaign and it isn’t in a Theater of Operations.

Hate to disappoint you but there are only 136 State prisoners in that facility and once the Feds buy it from Governor Nitwit they will all be removed since State prisoners can't be held in Federal prisons.
Since there is room for over 1,600 prisoners in that brand new prison, each one will have their own individual cells as well as 16 separate exercise yards to divide between them so probably 10 prisoners per exercise yard.
The prison is located about 8 miles south of Mississippi Palisades State Park so all of our camping fans can feel warm and fuzzy knowing that these vile creatures are a short hike South of them if they ever did break out.

1 Mile Rd is S border of facility & Sandpatch Rd is W of facility to the Mississippi. It runs directly to center of facility. The W edge of Thompson is 2,600 feet from the river. The W cell blocks are 750 feet from E end of Sandpatch so cell blocks are 3,350 ft from the river. The E edge of cell blocks are 1,000 ft from W edge so all cell blocks between 3,400-4,400 ft CENTER of river.
An 81MM Mortar van fire a 15 lb shell 15,000 feet, so 4,400 ft is easy. They could fire from 2 mi W of the river and hit every building.
The huge Savanna Army Depot is 15 mi N of Thompson & Rock Island Arsenal is 30 mi S. So ammo is everywhere around there and 6,000 civilians work at RI daily. So terrorists have a chance to get into at least Rock Island and that is where most ordinance for the military is now manufactured. Of they could hijack finished shipments coming out of RI or Savanna.
After 0/11 I wouldn't put anything past them.

Our prison system is currently the most effective vehicle for spreading radical Islam in the USA that the terrorists have found. We move the guys from Gitmo into a normal prison, and we basically provide them with a tax-payer funded recruitment and training center. I am against having the terrorist being housed in Illinois. I don't believe they should become the responsibility of any state. This is a military and government issue and should not endanger any of us. I can imagine these folks getting paroled at some point, and they will then be free to come to Chicago. I will than also be asked to pay for their housing, education etc…just to make them feel at home. I think they should be sent back to their countries – there should be no debate about that. If they are from Iran, back they go and Iran has to take them. [...] Well the White House is giving the Illinois Department of Corrections a bailout by acquiring the currently empty $140 million Thomson Correctional Facility near Thomson, IL. The Illinois Senate Minority Leader, Christine Radogno, says that the purchase price should be no less than $250 million. The residents of Thomson are not worried about the safety concerns, but welcome the jobs. The Des Moines Register reports that it’ll be a $1 Billion boot to the local economy: A White House economic analysis estimates the prison would have an economic impact in Illinois and Iowa of between $900 million and $1.1 billion over a four-year period. Honestly, does it really matter where these prisoners are located? All of the paranoia found in these comments is hilarious. Bush and company did a good job of nipping terrorism in the bud. There are not going to be any "incidents" when the prisoners are moved to Illinois.They aren't going to break out to rape and pillage the countryside. Everybody needs to stop spouting their hyperbole and do some critical thinking.
And, after some critical thinking, you may come to the conclusion that fifty percent of those in the government are corrupt. The fifty percent of those that aren't, well, they are just too ignorant to become corrupt. Power and money corrupt many a good man. It's an inherent part of government and society in general.
In the end, another man gets elected, and life goes on. Does it really change? Are you much worse off now than you were ten years ago? My guess is probably not.
