Questions Raised About Obama’s Nominee for El Salvador Ambassador

Today, the Obama White House announced the nomination of Mari Del Carmen Aponte as U.S. Ambassador to El Salvador. It is not Ms. Aponte’s first brush with an ambassadorship. In 1998, President Clinton nominated her to be Ambassador to the Dominican Republic. She was forced to withdraw her name from consideration over allegations of ties to the Cuban spy agency.
From Washington Times, January 25, 1999:
Miss Aponte’s withdrawal from consideration for the Dominican Republic post came after she was questioned by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee about her contacts with Cuban government employees or agents.
She told the panel that her experience with Mr. Tamayo and Cuban agents had sensitized her to future contacts that might involve Cuban influence.
According to the officials, Miss Aponte said she had no evidence Mr. Tamayo was a Cuban agent, but told him after the FBI inquiries that she wanted no further contacts with his “friends” in the Cuban Interests Section in Washington.
Mr. Tamayo’s regular contacts with the FBI apparently allayed Miss Aponte’s concerns about any ties to Cuban intelligence. However, Miss Aponte said she had suspicions about Mr. Tamayo’s intelligence connections after she was contacted by the FBI in late 1993. She arranged a meeting between Mr. Tamayo and FBI agents investigating the spy recruitment effort, the officials said.

According to a confidential intelligence memo delivered to Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Jesse Helms of North Carolina, first published by Insight several months ago, Aponte allegedly cohabited with an agent of the Cuban intelligence service, known as DGI. The man, who was not named in the memo, later was identified in followup press reports as Roberto Tamayo.
In October, eight months after Insight’s exclusive story concerning White House security lapses and Aponte’s relationship with the suspected spy (see “Do You Want to Know a Secret?” March 23, 1998) the formermember of Clinton’s transition team quietly stepped aside. It was only earlier this month that news emerged about her withdrawal.
The memo — written by an intelligence expert working overseas — questioned the lack of a thorough security check into Aponte’s background. The memo also alleged that Aponte was recruited as a “DGI asset.” According to the memo, “When the FBI eventually questioned her about her involvement with Cuban intelligence, she reportedly refused to cooperate, saying that since she was not seeking a permanent White House position she was not subject to a background check.”
Ms. Aponte was later cleared by the FBI. In spite of this, the Clinton Administration declined to nominate Aponte to any other federal appointments.

The Cold War never stopped in El Salvador. ARENA (right) & FMLN(left) are currently the 2 main parties and they were the antagonists in the civil war of the 1980's. Hugo Chavez is delighted that Obama is sending a leftist stooge & DGI asset to El Salvador as our ambassador. She will provide whatever assistance she can to rope El Salvador into Chavez's Bolivarian Circle of anti-capitalist, anti USA, Latin American Nations. Chavez plan is arm his Circle of Friends with Russian guns, subs, and planes to pressure and bring about the decline of the USA. In our favor is the Chavez's IQ is about the same as Barbara Boxer or Harry Reed.

Remember what obummer wrote in his book about always aligning and associating himself with the most RADICAL students when he was in school? Right now, 20 percent of Americans “support the impeachment of President Obama for his actions so far.” That number includes 35 percent of Republicans, to only 15 percent of independents and 10 percent of Democrats.

Another "finger-in-yer-eye" move by Obama and likely, also Eric Holder. They are so characterized by this need to antagonize the U.S.A. And the lady (Cuban Spy or spy-associated, either way, offensive to me as an American, should not be placed in any level of U.S. government) being "cleared by the FBI" doesn't hold water, what with the Holder-spiderwebbery of flimflam 'justice' attacking the U.S. as overall method and goal. There is little doubt in my mind that Barack Obama is Communist, and in Holder's case, I think that determination could be easily taken to more extremes than that, such as "terrorist"…strong words, I realize, but the insults to our Republic by this group is far beyond outrageous.

Actually, though I realize what you've identified there is very likely Obama's objective — certainly it is the Left's overall objective what with reading yesterday they are actually considering "doing away with the U.S.Senate" because their Leftwingism isn't advancing as quickly as they'd prefer (think Castro's revolution, just "do away with the Senate" and throw the U.S. into some other non-Constitionally defined territory, a Fidel Castro dream come true), BUT, the point is that the offense by this nation (not among the Left) needs to be stronger than the Left's creepy Senate-damning attempts to numb down the voters' sensitivities. Stop being polite w/ people (the Left) who doesn't even understand what that is or why someone would opt to be civil.

Great post. You have it right, FMLN (the left) being in control right now will be another Country to soon be under Chavez's control. El Salvador will not fight back like Honduras did, particulalry since the VP is extreme left and is well known he was responsible for hundreds of massacres during the civil war. Funes does not have full control any more, the VP is enacting laws that Funes has to fight against. More than likley, Funes will be assassinated by his own VP and the AMerican Govt. will ignore it, particulalry since the commie Ambassador will cover up for him.
The Honduran people were extremely lucky to have such a strong leader in Micheletti, he was bullied, pressured, intimidated by barack and clinton, he did not waiver. I am afraid El Salvador will be another Nicaragua, there is alrady rumors that property will once again be confiscated and distributed. With a communist Ambassador, it is a sure thing that FMLN will have the full support of barack's communist Admin.
