There simply is no other way to explain the statements of White House Chief of Staff Jacob Lew this morning on CNN's State of the Union. Lew was asked by Candy Crawley about a recent statement by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid indicating he would not be bringing a...

"Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all the others."

I hope the Russian people are enjoying their more recently found freedoms. Putin is working to reinstall the ol' curtain in the near term. Caution !
Anyone wanting government control over health care should talk to a resident of the former Soviet Union and its satellite countries.
They will tell you flatly that it was (and still is as they dig out from under its aftereffects) a catastrophe and they want none of it. Socialized medicine leads to a failure of accountability, disencentivizing of medical professionals, wasted investments in facilities and machinery chosen by bureaucrats and not professionals, and extreme anxiety over whether one is being treated by a competent doctor or just a hanger-on who's malpractice goes unnoticed and uncorrected under such a system.
Extra payments (bribes) to the medical staff at their hospitals are a given. When I lived in that part of the world, cartons of Marlboros distributed liberally to the staff were the best way to ensure proper attention.
People, especially those in Congress who push for it, seem to think that could not happen here since they are viewing our system through the lens of what it is now. All they need to do is take a good, long, hard look at services already run solely by Uncle and they will see how they have evolved and degraded.
This mad rush to push this Gordian Knot of a law through will result in unintended consequences for us all and we will wonder how we let it happen.
It's not enough to "give" people freedom. They must be taught how to use it, right from wrong, ala post-WW2 Germany. Otherwise, like dogs to their vomit they just return to what garbage they've always known because, well, we humans are weird that way.
So true the Government has taken back control of most of the oil and gas industry in russia
Oddly enough, those peoples in eastern Europe, while shackled with Communism for generations craved freedom. WE, on the other hand, having freedom for over two centuries are throwing it away, reaching for Socialism. It is hard to understand and comprehend. The human animal, go figure……….
"Reid Compares Opponents of Health Care Reform to Supporters of Slavery"
This guy seems clueless. This is a perfect example of how lies and other fabrications are uttered by the left and are absorbed as gospel by those blindly following them.
Read "A Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln" by Doris Kearns Goodwin to learn the REAL history of slavery and its abolition. For some reason, the fact that most of the Democrats fully supported it during Lincoln's election and throughout his Presidency never sees the light of day anymore.
The Republicans were born of the Abolitionist Movement and fought against the Democrats to rid us of it.
Reid and his minions need to be called on this BIG LIE and forced to acknowledge their party's real history.
hey -y'all quit exhaling… it's killing me. — guess we didn't make it through Pearl Harbor Day without the expected direct and severe assault we we expecting afterall. As usual, we all had our eye on the hand of distraction and not the hand of deception. It's far past time to stand up and say; ' NOTHING MORE ! '
Here's the link to the story about Reid's fabrication: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/12/07/reid-c...
Madre – this is why the U.S. Constitution is so enlightend and important. It puts into law, the primary law of the land, that freedom ISN'T given by humans but by God – and the liberties that come with freedom are inalienable. Therefor humans have no authority over freedom… but then there's that nasty ole democracy aspect.. necessary but counter-productive.
December 8, 1991 was the death of communism in Russia. November 4, 2008 was the birth of communism in the United States.
But we all know Kruschev was right. The inmates are running the asylum. Smoke and mirrors. All smoke and mirrors.
p.s. Cowboy Logic- the majority of Americans are not “reaching for socialism” . The only ones who seem to be doing so are the aging sixties radicals and their spawn (both genetic and public school indoctrinated) and the generationally bred entitlement class.
i didn't think the constitution referenced god?

Obama has just started giving his "jobs" speech at the Brookings Institute. Just once I'd like to hear Obama give a speech in which he doesn't blame the previous administration or the opposition party for all the problems he now has to fix. He is a small, petty, arrogant man.
expected… and correct. no links necessary, have a copy within reach. "It puts into law" what the other founding documents explain.
Ahh the Brookings Institute…they have been such a disappointment on this issue.
Hugh Hewitt interviewed this educated dolt Dr. Henry Aaron here .
Can this man be more of an out of touch elitist dunce?
More scolding of the opposition party, followed by mentioning the heartrending letters he receives from kids worried because "my daddy just lost his job" or "my mom's afraid she's going to lose her healthcare." I'd like to see those letters. I believe absolutely nothing this man says.
I'd certainly agree that it was founded on christian values!
ccw – highly recommended research you should find enjoyable and informative – if you haven't already… John Locke – Natural Law, and how it applies to the founders. I'm not implying you are incorrect in that Christian values had influence, because they did. – but for me anyway, when I did this research I attained a whole new depth of understanding our founders' intent.
Yet the communist are still running the government behind the scenes. There was a very interesting article in September issue of GQ on the Bombings in Russian 10 years ago that brought Putin to power. A startling read and more startling is that the Russia's government did not allow it to enter their country. They basically told the publishers that it was not to make it in to print in any of the Russian editions.
Someone on another site pointed out that we are being nudged into forming a third party.
Valid point – more the their "divide-and-conquer" strategy.
We need to re-take the GOP.
What you know about socialism could be written on the head of a pin.
Except for the even smaller, petty and arrogant man he succeeded.
You're a professor? Of what? The reason their health care system was in the tank is because of their economy. The reason their economy was in the tank was because they had no revenue. The reason they had no revenue was their empire was overextended. Right Prof? And BTW as a manufacturer I'm getting a 25% increase in my health care bill. Why don't you pontificate on fixing that.
The retired chairman of McDonald's ,Fred Turner, needs to be recognized as the greatest diplomat in recent UN history. Where the arches are, is safe for all. His predecessor, Ray Kroc, was never that keen on the international expansion that Fred Turner started and managed. Besides the benefits to the Mickey D stockholders, it has exported American ideal like free enterprise, private business growth, and responding to the public' desires rather than a government diktat or 5 yr plan. Those golden arches are a beacon to the world and we should publically thank the guy who put them there. The world really does like us, regardless of what the newspapers say.
Indeed!
The Constitution does not, but the Declaration of Independence most certainly does.
It does indeed state that God has endowed mankind with "…certain unalienable Rights…"
HTH.
I'm confused. Is this Russia under Gorbachev or America under Obama?
I'm not sure what your point is, but here's a response of sorts: Several years living in one of those countries taught me a thing or two about their system. They had no revenue because they were all, in one degree or another, command economies without the "invisible hand" of millions of informed decisions by business people that make a free market work. Their economies and markets were highly distorted and lacked the ability to adapt quickly as circumstances required. The people were taxed to high heaven and those tax revenues were distributed by central planners, as they thought was necessary according to the Marxist mandate: "From each according to his ability; to each according to his needs." That's a sure recipe for misallocation of huge amounts of public wealth, just as we are seeing now. As a manufacturer, you should understand that. Their health care system was managed by central planners in the same way and the result was of no accountability for results at the health care delivery level. My "pontificating" is against government control of a system that works. If you want to reduce your health care bill, start with tort reform, Medicare reform, and insurance reform that allows customers to buy across state lines. The competition will drive prices down. I'm a professor of business, finance and economics with decades of real world business experience including bottom line responsibility, something almost completely lacking in the White House and in Congress. My nom de plume is borrowed from "Back to School" with Rodney Dangerfield.
I know this is a little off topic but what is Obama doing with health insurance in this country? I’ve just read the full page report on the potential benefits of introducing this bill and I honestly can’t see the country benefiting.
Penny shares are really speculative stocks, a bad call at the wrong time could quite easily leave you feeling quite a significant financial hit, however, there is massive money to be made out of penny shares and if you know what you are doing and have access to the right sort of information you will be able to cash in massively.
Its difficult to identify the best penny shares to invest in because there are so many of them and because they are often names you will have not heard of the information surrounding them can be quite sketchy at best. From the thousands of stocks with sketchy information how do you make an informed decision on where to put your cash?
People who do well out of penny shares do not do so by accident and a combination of research and experience is needed if you want to recover good dividends, remember:
1.Read online message boards. Much of the information you find there will be bogus, but after a few weeks reading, you will be able to identify the not so reliable posts from the more useful ones, always be sceptical of what you read.
2. Doing your own research is imperative, however, you can make this a little less of a chore by taking advantage of the many newsletters and subscription services but again, remeber to be sceptical of what you read. As a general rule the more research you do, the more successful your trades will be. If something sounds too good to be true then it is.
3. An online penny stock broker will help you sort stocks by volume and price, this will enable you to identify penny shares with a low price but which still trade at a credible volume. These are a good starting point for your research but this does not mean that they are a sure thing to buy, just a sure thing to look into.
4. Picking the best Penny Shares is a combination of art and science and there are no solid rules that you can apply otherwise everyone would be doing it. The better information you get from reliable sources, the more weapons you will have in your arsenal.
Do not feel put off when you are first getting into the world of penny stocks, it does seem a little overwhelming at first but breaking things down into manageable chunks and working on one thing at a time is a good approach, all the best and good luck in your venture into the world of penny shares!
Backgammon is one of the oldest board games for two players in which the playing pieces are moved according to the roll of dice. Players win by removing all of their pieces from the board. There are many variants of backgammon, most of which share common traits. Backgammon is a member of the tables family, one of the oldest classes of board games in the world.
Although luck plays an important role, there is a large scope for strategy. With each roll of the dice players must choose from numerous options for moving their checkers and anticipate possible counter-moves by the opponent. Players may raise the stakes during the game. There is an established repertoire of common tactics and occurrences.

Like chess, backgammon has been studied with great interest by computer scientists. Owing to this research, backgammon software has been developed capable of beating world-class human players.
Backgammon playing pieces are known variously as checkers, stones, men, counters, pawns, or chips.
The objective is to remove (bear off) all of one’s own checkers from the board before one’s opponent can do the same. The checkers are scattered at first and may be blocked or hit by the opponent. As the playing time for each individual game is short, it is often played in matches, where victory is awarded to the first player to reach a certain number of points.
