Congressman Nadler Defends ACORN, Again

Steve King (R-IA) raised the issue of a need for a full congressional investigation of ACORN. As Rep. King notes, Subcommittee Chair Jerry Nadler (D-NY) has said he would consider an investigation as soon as he saw credible evidence of ACORN wrongdoing. (Rep. Nadler apparently doesn’t read Big Government)
Rep. Nadler explains that, since Congress has already de-funded ACORN, there is nothing more it can do with respect to the troubled organization. The matter is solely an issue for local, state and federal law enforcement. (This interpretation will certainly be news to Rep. Waxman and a number of other colleagues of Rep. Nadler, who have built large parts of their careers on investigating things far outside the purview of Congress.

Nadler is a member of the "Congressional PROGRESSIVE Caucus. Check out the names on the list for yourself at their website so you know who to vote out of office in 2010! Most of this list also voted NOT to defund ACORN. That should tell you everything you need to know to understand the Progressives in Congress.
Maybe he should defend the taxpayer instead. Give our money back and our country will come back.

Speaking of Nadler where were these clowns when the mortgage racket was going on? Oh. That's right. They were voting to make the bankruptcy laws the way they are now. They were voting to create an environment that led to the housing bubble. And they were voting to protect the people that took the most important asset class in THE WORLD – US housing – and broke it like an egg.
And now we are going to let the people who perpetrated this malfeasance on America clean up the mess. Why not just let OJ Simpson out of prison so he can find the real murderer?

how about the fact that the defunding was illegal. Congress prohibits a "bill of attainder", which is taking action against a organization without giving a trial. Nadler wants to prosecute this organization in a way that is legal, as chair of the Constitution/Civil Rights Subcomm. he should want no less. It is his duty and obligation as a leader to make sure this is done legally after investigation by the proper authorities.

The best way to get Congressional action against ACORN is to vote as many Dems out of office in 2010 & 2012 as possible. I mean, make it bloody! Until then, they will continue to stonewall any investigations. We just need to keep banging away at Acorn and SEIU until that time.

We need to clean out all of the congress and senate and the state houses because they are all corrupt. All candiadtes get the same amount of air time on all radio talk shows and tv networks for free-3 to 5 minutes 3-5 times during six month campaign only. elected officals will ned to be part time and citizenstatemen.

You are WRONG. A Bill of Attainder is when congress bypasses the courts and makes legislation which declares a person or group guilty of a crime. Defunding a suspect oranization until a proper investigation is not the same. And federal funding is NOT a right.

Why should you or anyone care if there's a trial before defunding. The evidence is there so continuing to fund Acorn is not only a waste of more taxpayer dollars, but ultimately it will be used to try to rig the 2010 election, which is why they want to continue funding this outfit accused of fraud, racketeering, embezzlement, voting rigging, etc.

Those videos (and there's more) are just the tip of the iceberg…a bunch of videos where the employees in 5 different offices conducted themselves in the same way. They knew what they were doing. Besides, Acorn was already under investigation in 14 swing states for suspected voter registration fraud during the 2008 election. These were the 14 swing states where McCain was ahead until Acorn got involved and then, voila!, the polls turned around in the other direction. The sudden run at the banks in mid-Sept. '08 gave the lead to NObama permanently. Now, who was responsible for that sudden run at the banks? Hmmm.

Uhm, excuse me..but isnt the very fact that there are criminal investigations by 14 different states attorneys of ACORN and their umbella groups an implication of a conspiracy? As such, does that not warrant a Federal investigation via the RICO act?

I hope you are not serious. Was it illegal then to pass a bill specifically imposing a retroactive, confiscatory tax of AIG? It is not "prosecution" to stop subsidizing something. Congress funds various organizations for various reasons, are you saying that it is "unconstitutional" for Congress to consider whether or not an organization is deserving of taxpayer dollars? That's rediculous. Finally, a "bill of attainder" in this sense is more regarding Congress calling somebody guilty of a crime, like passing a law saying, "John Doe is a criminal," which would be convicting someone before he/she has gone through due process in our court system.
