ACORN Document Dump: Why Did ACORN Spend $9,000 at Fertility Clinic?
by PubliusBig Government’s first post about the San Diego Document Dump showed a bank authorization to automatically pay monthly membership dues. That particular individual committed to paying ACORN $10 a month. Thousands of California residents have made similar commitments, adding up to substantial monthly revenue for ACORN. How an organization chooses to spend its members money says a lot about that organization.
Below is a monthly credit card statement for ACORN employee David Lagstein’s corporate credit card:

We’re not entirely certain what the “Fertility Specialist Medical Group” or the “San Diego Reproductive Surgery Center” does, but we know that, in June, ACORN paid them more than $9,000. We also know that ACORN dumped the credit card statement detailing the charge into a public dumpster just days before the Attorney’s General office was scheduled to visit.
No doubt, Mr. Lagstein has a good reason for this purchase. Or, at least, an explanation for how payments to a fertility clinic further the hopes and dreams of the poor and low-income families who have turned to ACORN for help. We’ll be waiting along with the rest of you for the answer.

I was wondering the exact same thing ACORN_Fraud. A quick google search shows us this:
"SVM's experienced sales team, quick toll-free ordering process, efficient online ordering system and fast and friendly superior customer service has made SVM the experts in business-to-business and consumer sales of prepaid gift cards since 1997."
So, it seems they offer prepaid gift cards. I'd be interested in seeing what these gift cards were used for; while it could be something entirely benign (for instance, maybe ACORN purchases these cards and has their employees pay for gas with them), it could also be something much worse. It would not surprise me if these gift cards (which would be FAR more difficult to trace than checks) were used in the oft-reported but never investigated "bonus" schemes they ran during 'Get out the vote' drives. It also wouldn't surprise me if the cards were used as a manner of bribing people to vote for particular candidates.

In Baltimore Maryland, a jury, right this minute is pondering whether to convict the first black woman Mayor for STEALING GIFT CARDS! Gift cards she solicited from city developers to hand out to the poor children of the city for the holidays. She used them fro XBoxes and other electronics.

SVM offers prepaid gas and retail gift cards. High end retailers such as Saks Fifth Ave and Williams Sonoma participate. Home Depot, Amazon and others also offer gift cards through this service. Many gas stations offer cards as well.
Look on the bright side…Mr. Lagstein can (allegedly, of course) fill his car, drive his significant other to the fertility clinic and have reading material while he sits in the waiting room. ACORN has helped another citizen live a better life!

David spent about $1800 for pre-paid gift cards over a one month period. Multiply that x12. Not chump change. I'd love to see a year worth of his statements. Let's hope that the day will come when a grand jury sees them.
I was definitely wondering the same thing. I would imagine non-profits and companies that have to account for all expenditures wouldn't be allowed to purchase those without declaring exactly what they were spent on. Otherwise the CC just becomes a pocket money fund.

Using that credit card, for personal purchases, is embezzlement. Notice that ACORN has a pattern of embezzlement? That is the crime that Dale rathke was removed for, using the credit card for personal purchases. it is simply white collared crime, at its most elemantary level.

You gotta give the guy credit for one thing. He travels on the cheap. Greyhound transportation, Domino's pizza and Motel 6.

What's interesting are the amounts of the SVM cards, $539.45 repeatedly and $783.20, could be under the table payroll. I think the AG Brown could trace these easily, but he probably won't. The way I see it, other than a few phone bills and a couple of lunches, this Acorn (company) card was used for personal use. This guy should do time IMO.

Perhaps we should rethink this entire Health Care concept. THEY, just made the case for forced sterilization. With that concept, WE could eliminate the entire problem, including entitlements within the scope of one generation. People can either add too, or detract from a society. Those who have nothing to add, are of what use? Furher, whose job is it to keep them, to clothe them, to feed them, to shelter them? Mine and yours? I think not……….

SVM Prepaid cards basically are all types of prepaid cards. Basically non-traceable. They include American Express gift card and Visa Gift Cards. What a wonderful way to distribute bribes and other underground activities. So you pull up $2300 worth in a month. My coroprate accounting group would have me on the carpet asking questions. I guess that means this activity is SOP and acknowledged to the highest levels of the ACORN organization.
