ACORN Document Dump: Year End, Year Begin Mingles Taxpayer Support and Politics?
by PubliusEvery year, ACORN hosts a “Year End, Year Begin” (YEYB) meeting for its organizers. We’ve obtained the detailed agenda for the YEYB conference for 2007. Special dinner speakers for the conference include Eliseo Medina, Executive Vice-Presiden of SEIU and Mark Ernst, CEO of H&R Block. As you can see, the conference covers all aspects of ACORN’s or its affiliate’s work. And, that could be a problem for ACORN.
Conference sessions include how to lobby state legislatures, organize labor unions, build the Working Families political party, conduct get out the vote efforts, as well as providing housing and credit counseling.
Remember, ACORN’s housing and credit counseling work is done primarily through the ACORN Housing Corporation, which receives a substantial portion of its funds from taxpayers. Most of its staff are paid through taxpayer dollars. Their attendance at a conference with such overt political activism raises troubling concerns.
Of course, ACORN could have erected strict fire-walls at the conference. It is possible that ACORN Housing employees weren’t allowed in the political sessions. Or, that they were using vacation time to attend the conference, so taxpayer funds weren’t underwriting their attendance at political workshops. It is also possible that ACORN kept a very strict accounting of the costs of the conference. Any cost sharing by ACORN Housing would have been strictly limited to the sessions dealing with housing and credit counseling. The more politcal ACORN “holding company” would have picked up the costs of the political sessions.
These are all possible. But, for some reason, we doubt ACORN was that thorough in protecting taxpayer funds.

I'm sure H&R was getting a butt load of cash through ACORN… each tax return done = "cha ching"
H&R Block files millions of tax returns per year for people getting earned income credit. The credit amounts to thousands of dollars per person or billions of dollars on returns filed by H&R Block. Maybe ACORN staff steer people to H&R Block or work for H&R Block during tax season or maybe ACORN gives people refund anticipation loans. These are very high interest rate short term loans so people can walk out of the tax preparers office with their refund cash. The tax preparers or some middle man (ACORN?) can make a lot of money.
Is this what they mean by "TRUTH TO THE POWER". I think we have the power now thanks to Breitbart, Hannah and James!

It sounds like they are using the program Tax Cut Professional made by Block. With the number of users they have they would get all the updates that Block produces.
Just goes to show that Tax Cheat Timmy should have used Tax Cut instead of Turbo Tax. I personally like Turbo Tax and the interfaces with Quickbooks and Neat Desk. Now just scan in the invoices and it goes into quickbooks.
ACORN shouldn't be expected to keep accurate records of how they spent our money. They are much too busy doing god's (read Obama's) work to be bogged down with petty details.

The disclaimer for my comment(s) comes first. This is an opinion without substantive proof, but based upon very qualified observations from extensive knowledge of the banking industry.
Block's CEO would have had proximity to ACORN due to their large business in Mortgage Banking, most of which was non-prime. This would have occurred because ACORN was very adept at targeting lenders and gaining leverage. You can read between the lines as to what "gaining leverage" might mean. But it would seem a very logical assumption that big lenders and companies didn't go looking for ACORN and what ACORN could do for them, but instead were provided with invitations they could not refuse.
McCain absolutely is a war hero. Of course, so was Duke Cunningham. That doesn't give them a free pass forever, nor does it mean they're not part of the problem now, they are. (Well Cunningham not so much these days). But don't denigrate his service.
If the authorities will not act on easy to see and understand crimes, I doubt they will deal with the subtleties of this one.
The way he ran his campaign it certianly looked like that was his strategy.

Imagine the travel and lodging expenses for all those from out of town. People who travel to participate in roles of assistance do not use their own money. These conferences are also howdy doody events where everyone goes to drink and be merry, and we pay for it.
Acorn is a criminal enterprise and needs to be shut down NOW! Just shut them down and then sort through the mess and start jailing the management. They are clearly mixing the tax payer dollars with private funds and clearly pushing non-profit housing employees into lobbying efforts and politicial action. They are also embezzeling funds, laundering money, intimidating voters. comitting voter registration fraud, tax evation and who knows what else. Hang these people and demand they repay every dollar ever give to them.
Would it surprise you that AHC staff were REQUIRED to attend ACORN Organizer meetings so while counseling clients they would know what campaigns ACORN was running and then would hint to the clients what a wonderful service they will be doing in their new community to join ACORN!!!They just laid off a huge number of staff and REQUIRED them to sign a waiver that they will not talk to the media or sue AHC in return for 2 months severance!!These people are so corrupt they even blackmail their own staffers!I say their ENTIRE National Management staff should be walked out the door and their Board of Directors get the balls to do it NOW and start over with REAL, PROFESSIONAL, ETHICAL MANAGERS!
