ACORN Document Dump: California Voters, Prepare to Be ACORNed
by PubliusDumping 20k sensitive documents in a public dumpster isn’t anyone’s idea of smart. Even though the Attorney’s General office was about to visit the ACORN San Diego office, ACORN employees should have taken some steps to protect the information they were dumping. There are extensive federal and state laws in play here, with very serious civil and criminal penalties.
But, one shouldn’t take this to mean that ACORN is always and everywhere incompetent. You don’t build an international organization with offices in hundreds of US cities through incompetence. Part of ACORN’s secret is that it is really shrewd politically. Below is a plan for a 2-year ACORN campaign to repeal California’s Prop 13. That initiative, passed in 1979, restricts government’s power to increase taxes. One of its toughest provisions requires a 2/3rds vote of the legislature to raise taxes. ACORN, naturally, wants to scrap that.
This is impressive. ACORN is already mapping out a plan for the 2012 election cycle.
They are also honest about their present situation and the challenges it presents. Below is a memo detailing the possibility that ACORN may need to reconstitute under a different name in California.
ACORN wants you to believe that the documents they dumped last month are old fliers, leaflets and other out-dated garbage. They aren’t. The documents above are current working documents. And, ACORN made a point of dumping them.

The problem is, just as they identify in their letter about "renaming" ACORN, if the government removes funding permanently, all the leadership and members can simply change names.
It's a pretty sad statement that they claim there are many groups that are willing to work with them, but want them to change their name before they can.
So those groups don't seem to care about WHY ACORN is in trouble, just that they change their name, and then they'll be happy to work with them. Can't have them making them look bad.

Yes, using IMAGES for these documents, even though they can be saved as PDFs, means the content cannot be easily shared except by sending the entire file to someone. It would be more helpful to be able to use verbatim excerpts, even though these documents are not long.
Most amusing are their pros and cons in keeping the name "ACORN". It's pure comedy gold. Kind of a Tony Soprano doing a back-of-the-napkin review of his situation.
Never mind that by their own admission the ACORN brand is now radioactive, funds have dried up and politicians are bolting for the door, I'm laughing my head off at their optimism that the ACORN name can be "rehabilitated" in a year or two. Talk about re-arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

Looks like these people simply have no clue how embedded prop 13 is in California. There have been several attempts over the last couple of decades to repeal various parts of prop 13. The real problem is that removing prop 13 will remove many old people from their homes. This is one reason it will not be repealed.
As for renters in rent controlled areas, repealing prop 13 will force the repeal of rent control measures. You cannot change the taxes without adjusting the rents to match, making this a no win for those people as well.

Although, I think what you want is basically something you can simply copy and paste from. Well, the initial data dump has started, first comes scanning the image, then comes transcribing. And that is a lot of documents to go through. Also, especially in the early stages, just about any revelation could be be met by ACORN with "Those quotes are taken out of context!" or they were edited, outright fabrications, etc. Here are the full images, read it and weep. Sure seems a smart way to start the dissemination.

The goal of gutting California taxpayers is behind the carefully orchestrated effort to push for the California Constitution Convention. The ONLY purpose of this convention is to overturn Prop 13 and to allow the state to pass budgets with a simple (Democratic Party) majority.
