ACORN Statement on Latest Los Angeles Video: The Hallway Defense

Los Angeles ACORN statement, as prepared by the organization:
1. The tapes are clearly doctored and highly edited and it is our hope this will be responsibly reported on should this become a news story.
2. The conversation took place outside of the ACORN office. The couple was taken outside of the office into the building-hallway (a common space) because the subject matter they were attempting to discuss was not appropriate and the employee made it clear that ACORN does not help with such things.
3. The couple was brought to a neighboring agency that deals specifically with international abuse.
4. The couple featured in the video did NOT portray themselves as a “prostitute” and a “pimp.”
5. The couple described themselves as “a former prostitute escaping her pimp boyfriend in Miami” and the male as her “concerned friend, a student at USC” who had political aspirations. The male was NOT dressed in “pimp” attire but instead in a white shirt and pants. This contradicts what the “videographers” have stated in the press.
6. The employee made repeated attempts to move the couple out of the office and building by suggesting a number of referrals of agencies or types of agencies to talk to.
7. It is hard to respond to this tape. It is so heavily edited that it may be constructed to conceal the reality of the interaction.

We have no doubt that ACORN would like to “move on.” Of course, part of their “moving on” is suing the federal government to get its hand back in the taxpayers’ piggy-bank. And it is nice ACORN is fighting to “end the foreclosure crisis,” since they did so much to create it.
Whole write up in the Los Angeles Times here. And no, as far as we know, Mr. James Rainey, who had previously uncritically quoted Lavelle Stewart, the ACORN employee featured in the video, has not deigned to weigh in yet.

Ahhhh yes. Who could forget Badgad Bob.
ACORN should lose their tax free status over this crap. One situation with the North Pole letters and the post office stopped all letters. The Alaska Senator went to bat and got it reinstated but it just goes to show that one of over 10,000 workes trying to make childern happy almost ruined letters from the North Pole project and 5 out of 6 ACORN offices were willing to help prostitutes and they are fine.
Sounds like a rigged system to me.

Let me get this straight — First ACORN intimidates and extorts Congress and banks with the Community Reinvestment Act, then forcing banks to loan money in red lined areas to people that had no income, no down payment or even average credit scores….that would have previously been told no, you should probably rent.
Then ACORN proceeds to help hide income and help prepare tax returns for these people that had no job or lied to banks about their income to get loans???? Now they promote their Home Defenedr program across America, telling these people that lost their homes due to foreclosures, that they should homestead, and defend their homes from the banks that actually own them???? Get real, this is criminal, theft, fraud and RICO territory.
I’m assuming that ACORN is counting on those who have not seen the entirety of the tapes to believe their statement?
They can’t honestly believe that most thinking people will buy this, can they?
Quite frankly, it is hard to respond to ACORNs responses, and still be able to keep a straight face………

2. It started inside and went down the hall however, was that not an ACON employee?

Actually, you can count on ACORN knowing that the majority of people in this nation will never see these tapes. Unless the MSM picks it up, it might as well not exist.
After the first round of ACORN tapes came out, I was talking to some people in my office ( most of them are not Obama supporters). Not a damn one of them even knew what ACORN was, much less anything about the tapes and all they portrayed. And this will be the case again. The vast majority of people have no real clue what is going on with any of this stuff because if it isn't on MSM, it didn't happen. Remember, people voted for the paper suit because the MSM told them too, in spite of what countless numbers of people were telling them.
Sadly, what Breitbart needs to do is take ACORN up on the whole editing thing. I bet that if he made the ACORN Employees into slick looking vampires and had Hanna as the self-absorbed love interest and then gave it a really slick, but meaningless title (I dunno – ACORN: The Night Wanderer..bleh), we would have everyone in the country talking about it.
If it doesn't have CGI and explosions or the cast members Dancing for Dollars, I doubt the millions of citizens out there will give a crap.
ACORN is stepping out on a limb with their defense here. Any forensic study of the tapes can determine if they have been edited or not. Should all of this come to trial, I'm sure that is one of the first things that will be done to prove validity.

Saw a TV show today about the film industry. Haskell Wexler, director of the 1969 movie "Medium Cool" made a statement that essentially said this: It became obvious that if it was not on television, that it was unimportant, it didn't happen."

Acorn is a political organization which was set up for a political purpose. It achieves a textbook success with its mobilization of the grassroots that brought about the most grand power takeover last year.

While I know as an employee, we want to encourage new work for our company; this type of work is insane.
I have been in the aerospace industry for nine years, right before Sep. 11th. I've had objectionable inquiries about publications over missile guidance systems under guise of "commercial use". I know, SCARY, thought the same thing. I was like thank you for your inquiry and I and not sure if I if can help you but we'll get back to you. Hell, I can’t take a gift over 20 dollars without worrying about how it will affect my job and my company takes the $20 dollar offense, seriously…
This level of corruptrion is absolutely disgusting…. When a company has employees that are not worried about jobs, rules, or the company overlooks the situation, each scenario it disastrous.
It makes me wonder, how questionable does the material have to be before someone says "Hey, wait a second. I can’t do this, even if they are trying to be amicable." This is purely disgusting… I hope they are taken down.
