Abraham Lincoln called it a lullaby during his campaign against Douglas. What he meant was the political promises contrived to make people feel comfortable enough that they would sleep through the important debates (then it was slavery) and allow the back room deals to be made. In this case the democrats are allowing the lullaby to lure them into voting for healthcare legislation that will indenture every man, woman and child in this country with little or no demonstrable return to the people.

The democrats have allowed themselves to be convinced that they must pass this legislation now or be caught on the wrong side of history. What they really fear is depth-charging a President and a white house chief of staff who painted them all into a corner on healthcare legislation. What they really are doing is CYA for Pennsylvania Avenue and pretending they are doing great things. Yes, pretending, as in fiction.

If the democrats really had any backbone, they would choose this moment to stand athwart this Marxist freight train and push back. Push back the role and obscene cost of government until it resembles something other than a serpent swallowing its own tail; push back until we discover anew the ideal that we, as individuals, can take care of ourselves; push back until everyone realizes that the pervasive influence of government has never been benign and that it’s influence is now parasitic.

What do you suppose are the chances that those democrats will chose to fight for the real needs of the nation (defined as a return to at least one or two of our founding principles), or embarrassing a President who ignores those needs? Thought so.

At a time when the socialists in Europe and China are saying we ought to reconsider the path to socialism, our Democrats, having ruled us for 80% of the time since 1932, are ready to double down all those bad bets and listen to the lullaby.

You know, it is sad. You can tell by tweets that many Democrats feel righteous about the vote, that something good has been done by it. They act like conservatives and Republicans don't care about the uninsured. They have no comprehension of a conservative's point at all. Regardless of the "good" the plan could do (which I see very little, and only weakens the impoverished), we simply cannot afford it. Dems refuse to look into the dollars and see how they are stealing from citizens and subjecting the future of this country to abject poverty.

Before today, I had to work the first four hours of every day to pay for the lives of other families before I even began to support my own. Now it will be the first six hours. But I will not be a victim. I will fight for my family.

If the dems get thrown out of office in 2010, can anything be done to at the very least, slow some of this stuff down? If we get a GOP president in 2012, what can be done to slow some of this stuff down?

Saying "the country is over" is not going to do you, or anyone else, any good. If the country is over, then move to a different one. If you're going to stay in this one, start talking about solutions. Otherwise all you're doing is crying over spilt milk.

Those of you in Arkansas, Nebraska, and Louisiana the ball is in your court. You can make the biggest difference by pushing your Democratic Senators to do the right thing. Those of us outside those states can help by threatening to give money to thier opponents, and carrying out that threat if the don't vote the right way.

I'm going to run in 2012. I respect your opinion. You and I will have to join a party and hopefully run to win. Then we can undo gerrymandering, restore the 30,000 rule, etc. Should I run as a 3rd party American Independent/Constitution Party or change to Democrat or Republican and pick a district? I'm planning to run for a state office in 2012. Is it a waste of time, should I grab a congressional district somewhere in southern California?

Bills are written by the Congress, with the president having the power to sign or veto them. That IS how our government works.

Sadly, repealing, or even remaking, previous Bills, especially those pertaining to gigantic government handouts, are just about impossible to do………..unless it is to make them even larger and more disgusting.

Several past GOP presidents, President Bush the younger being the last one, have tried to fix/clean up/control Social Security. The Congress ( the Dems ) squashed that !

I remember the SS deal and how the dems ruined it by saying it was like gambling your retirement on the stock market. But, we're talking here about practically a revolution BECAUSE of Obamacare. If the dems get thrown out of office, and the gop replaces them, largely based on this Obamacare travesty, seems to me that they would have the people and the mandate on their side to fix/clean/control it.

I must remind you that the founding fathers fought the worlds greatest power of the time. The majority of there fellow citizens were not intrested in the hard fight for independence. They would have rather gone along to get along. There are always appeasers but they are never right. I for one will not give up my country I will not stop speaking truth to power. and I will not stop educating the deaf and blind until they hear and see. Our focus has to be on restructuring the existing republican party into our party. The democrates won nothing for their natural constituents today. The elitist young will now pay higher taxes and be forced to buy expensive insurance they dont want, the dependent classes will see reductions in their medicare programs, the union rank and file industrial workers, teachers will see their hard earned caddilac health care plans taxed. All the while ignoring the real scourge of these same constituants JOBS. What will a person that has deined life saving treatment be willing to do–what will that persons family do? This is not over, 2010 is comming yes, and believe me no money will be in any gov't account after 5 yrs of taxes for Health Insurance at this point of time. They are incapable of holding any kind of trust esp. considering our debt. Buckle down they will want the taxes and it will cause a financial crisis around the world if this thing goes through. I wish I could be as optimistic as you are. It almost seems collapse is inevitable. Maybe not as widespread and in other economic area as it will be at first, but I just don't see how Obamunism won't end a hundred times worse than the stagflation/misery indexes of Carter. Can we tie this up in the courts when most are occupied by liberal judges? Can a new Congress undo this in 2010? I hope, as you said. But I have my doubts.

Please folks, no more doom and gloom….We have to show these deceivers that we will fight for our rights….We have to start taking action on the state level to fend off this attack….start calling, faxing and emailing (and physically visit them if possible) your representatives in your state capitols….tell them you expect them to protect your states rights against this behemoth of a federal government….THAT IS THEIR JOB!…everyone has to participate…they have to feel inundated and overwhelmed….also these Senators and Congressmen in Washington have local offices in their respective states….GO TO THEIR OFFICES and question the staff…most of them have forms and such to submit your concerns….if they feel overwhelmed it might make them think twice about their votes….we have to be active on every front…flood them with people questioning them from everywhere and all the time…

By then too much damage will have been done to repair it. Yes we will be able to repeal the law (maybe) but we can never recover the economic damage that is being done, and this bill will create even more. Then my other fear is that with so many people who will depend on the gvt will not vote these bums out.
We should demand that they be on the system they vote in, and we should demand to be represented and that this closed door crap stops. Even if conservatives are a minority they should be shut out completely what kind of gvt is that. It does not resemble anything we have ever seen.

If they have opponents already go ahead and give some now and give some more later if they vote for the bill, you need to have something to threaten them with and if you give all the money away right away then you wont be able to use that threat. Also some of these people may not be up fo reelection until 2012 or 2014, so make sure you find out when they are up for reelection and let them know that you are making it on your calender and wont forget.

Bayh of Indiana ( 2010!!! a true moderate when his vote doesn't matter, otherwise a statist)
McCaskill of Missouri (2012 let her know that you don't her)

There are also a lot of Dems voting for this crap elected in states that are anything but deep blue starts by pretty big margins. If one of these people are in your state, they are doing the bidding for DC Liberals, not you. So don't rubber stamping these people every 6 years, because they are part of the problem: Begich of Alaska (2014), Pryor of Arkansas (2014), Udall of Colorado (2014), Bennet or Colorado (2010), Nelson of Florida (2012), Harkin of Iowa (2014), Tester of Montana (2012), Baucus of Montana (2014), Harry Mason Reid of Navada (2010), Hagan of North Carolina (2014), Conrad of North Dakota (2012) , Dorgan of North Dakota (2010), Brown of Ohio (2012), Casey of Pennsylvania (2012), Johnson of South Dakota (2014), Webb of Virginia (2012), Warner of Virginia (2014), Byrd of West Virginia (2012 if is still alive), and Rockefeller of West Virginia (2014).

It's not just those of us in these states. These senators vote on legislation that affects the entire country and therefore it is right that any American should lobby these people.

And it's not just those senators it is ALL of them.

This is not yet passed, and if the fear of God is put into these people then this will not become law.

If this becomes law the country will be unrecognizable in 10 years, and no this will never be undone.

Not to mention the immediate affects; worsening the economic conditions that already are epic. More layoffs, more foreclosures. This is a disaster in so many ways.

Then the statist will not stop; cap and trade, amnesty for illegals; who knows what else.

This country has never been in such danger.

Oh and thanks so much Obama supporters.

Last year, I retired in Thailand. I have second guessed my decision a few times, but the more this Marxist/Socialist regime rolls on, I begin to wonder if I am a genius. Not to say that the government here is great, but, in the current environment that my home country is going through, the Thai govt seems great. It is very distressing after 37 years of military/civilian service to see our country go downhill in ten months. I can only pray that folks like those here at BG will take the bulls by the horns and reverse this totally backward trend to socialism. If not, God help every last one of us.

You folks do realize that the bill will pass now. The Democrat party has once again pulled the wool over our eyes. Now that they've voted for cloture, they only need 51 votes to utilize the nuclear option. This bill will be shoved down our throats, and Obummer will sign it into law. Harry Reed has succeeded. Now, we should see some disaster come up soon that will give this administration the last tool it needs to enslave America, Martial Law. Wait for it folks, because it's coming.

In the end this is not about helping needy americans get affordable health care. Those sixty demorats have theirs whether we do or not. This about something far more sinister. Gov. health care is only a tool to acquire what they want and that is world control and all the wealth and power that would go along with that.
It is about destroying the only bastion of freedom left on the planet. Without that bastion there is no freedom anywhere for anyone.
It is my fondest hope that when the fit hits the proverbial sans our military and its allies remember what they took the oath to do. When the soldiers fighting around the globe come home. They will not becoming home to the place they left fight and die for. They will be coming home to a perverted dream one man set in motion. A dream allowed to flourish by the weak, undereducated side of the American public. Our country has been hijacked by idealists with sense only of self. Overeducated idiots who cannot conceive or will not admit they are not gods. I am disgusted I cannot wait for the revolt that will one day happen when we take back this country.

It's all smoke and mirrors. Most politicians have the decency not to brag about the corruption but this is a brave new world. There are still plenty of goodies to be dispensed and some throw away sections a la Stupak to give the impression that these so-called moderates "made the bill better" before voting to destroy our health care system. We will then see a period while their internal polling tries to figure out if they are going to get thrown out of office for voting for it.

In the end, they will put everything back during reconciliation, and failing that, during the administrative mark up before it goes to the president. It ain't over 'til it's over, and then it still isn't over until the lawsuits are finished.

No need to apologize to the veterans for this debacle. As a 20 year military veteran, all I can say is that it is very depressing at times to see what these fascist a$$es are doing to us. I despise these sick bastards for what they are doing while being dissapointed in the people for allowing it to happen. Bush was demonized throughout his time by these sick, sorry, bastards and the American people wanted hope and change. We now have it and it's nothing short of Marxist/Socialist/Communist "hope and change". A lot of change with very little hope. I cry every day for the future of our country. I truly see civil rebellion on the horizon. Sad, but, at this pace very necessary.

Amen, there are too many on the right who seem ready declare failure.

We still have a ways to go.

And if this bill is passed and Obama signs it, Im still going to fight it. There are questions about the constitutionality of requiring people to buy health insurance, I think there is a chance Justice Kennedy may rule it unconstitutional given his judicial record. And while the tax hikes start in 2010, the benefits don't start until 2013 or 2014, Thats enough time to win back the house next year and and pick up a few senate seats, and in 2012 we could take back the White House and the Senate looks really good for the GOP in 2012, a lot of easy targets, they could take it back.

I think there are better ways to get them to pay attention to you. In DC money talks, if they see their friends getting out fund raised by their challengers that makes them really nervous.

Just imagine what it would be like if early next month Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid reports he has raise less money in November than what his is main challenger reports. That will make a lot of people in the Democratic caucus really nervous. Some may get could feet on this whole healthcare thing.

Talking about smoke and mirrors, anyone who has taken any Political Science class in their life knows that the cuts that this bill promises to make the numbers work in the CBO assesment are not actually going to happen when it comes time to make those cuts.

Sure this bill is going to bend the curve, but in the wrong way.
