Your Move Mr. Holder: ACORN Received $200,000 From Justice Department

ACORN and its affiliates received $200,000 in Justice Department grants between 2002 and 2009, according a report issued today by the department’s Inspector General.
No DOJ grants went directly to ACORN, but a handful of grants were awarded either to ACORN affiliates or to other organizations that sub-contracted with ACORN.
The report, requested by House Judiciary Committee ranking member Rep. Lamar Smith (R-Texas), also found a few instances of ACORN mismanagement of federally contracted work.
For example, ACORN received a $20,000 sub-contract to do community outreach on crime prevention in New York. The organization that contracted with ACORN has not released the funds yet, claimimg that ACORN submitted reimbursements “outside the scope of the agreement,” including “fringe benefits” for the salaried staffer working on the project.
In another instance the city of Phoenix contracted with the “ACORN Institute” to receive about $9,000 to canvass citizens and raise awareness about a tax credit and a tax assistance program. The city hasn’t paid ACORN yet due to “poor reporting by the ACORN Institute regarding another project not related to DOJ grant funds.” Phoenix is trying to terminate the contract with ACORN.
The DOJ did not audit the funds that went to ACORN or its affiliates, but did conduct an audit of one of the organizations that contracted with an ACORN affiliate. That audit concluded that the organization “did not properly manage the grant and did not adequately monitor some of its 36 sub-grantees, including the [American Institute of Social Justice],” an ACORN affiliate.
Smith seized on the report to call for a broader review of ACORN activities.
“Given the willingness of some ACORN employees to ignore the law, it comes as no surprise that the IG’s report found several instances in which ACORN and its affiliates failed to adhere to proper procedures,” Smith said in a statement.

Yesterday, Andrew Breitbart urged Attorney General Eric Holder to open an investigation of ACORN. An investigation by the Justice Department is even more pressing with this latest revelation. The potential misuse of funds by ACORN alone should be enough to warrant an investigation. As the need for an investigation builds, it will be interesting to see the new ways Holder and the Obama Administration avoid accountability for ACORN.

I believe that Mr. Breitbart has more than a few tapes. He mentions ACORN whistleblowers afraid of retribution. If there are people, there are documents. An honest, clean investigation is in order as Andrew has stated. I cannot believe that 0 would let Holder allow anything but a sham investigation occur. Hopefully Mr. Breitbart has a way to call him on this should it occur. This needs an independent investigator.

I believe the information will need to be overwhelming before you see Mr Holder address the possibility of an investigation. The information needs to out there for the public to see. Then coupled with Andrews threat you might see an unvestigation. Of course we, the American people, will need to do our due diligence throughout the process; by holding the special prosecutor We need to put these sleezeballs away for all day!

I agree it was poor use of funds. Hope to change that soon. I'm sure they thought (tragically) that it was the right thing to do. It was not a federal crime. My take on Holder ignoring the need for investigations on all ACORN operations. I believe that Breitbart and Company have far more serious evidence of election fraud IN THE GENERAL ELECTION of 2008 that goes right to Obama's lap. That's kind of a stretch. The outrage was not that somebody was pimping out underage girls. They were just play-acting. The outrage was and is that the Unicorns advised the play-actors about abusing the system.
Actually, I do understand how law firms work. Now, I have no more proof he was involved anymore than you have he was. Holder was, however, the D/AG before he went to work for the firm. That level of experience and insight would not go untapped in a case involving federal and international law. The preponderance then is, he was involved at some level.
Now, for argument sake, I'll stipulate he wasn't. He was, however, still a senior member of a firm representing Gitmo detainees trying to avoid military tribunals. In a decision of the magnitude involving KSM, the proper thing to have done would be to recuse himself. At the least, we now have the appearance of a conflict of interest in a major controversial decision involving the largest terrorist trial in history. (con't)
Now, the original post actually focused on hypocrisy. We still have Puerto Rican terrorists being pardoned to boost a senatorial candidate, even though those pardoned did not seek them. And we have an unrepentant, active fugitive, who had never been brought to justice, being pardoned because his wife made a major financial political contribution.
The appearance then, is that the AG facilitated pardons of terrorists and criminals for political gain, not justice. Therein lies the hypocrisy.

ACORN received MILLIONS from it's housing arm!!! In fact, almost half of the TAX PAYER money awarded to ACORN Housing went to ACORN via sub contracts!!! ACORN Housing Director of Housing Counseling sits upstairs in their PHILLY office with ACORN while the housing staff are downstairs. Their Field Supervisor Liz Trujillo made it her personal mission to make sure money from housing was funnelled to ACORN! These people are using TAX PAYER money to push a political agenda and they plan on changing their name so they can continue their assualt on the american people!
