Report: ObamaCare Would Reduce Care For Seniors
by PubliusFrom the Washington Post:

A plan to slash more than $500 billion from future Medicare spending — one of the biggest sources of funding for President Obama’s proposed overhaul of the nation’s health-care system — would sharply reduce benefits for some senior citizens and could jeopardize access to care for millions of others, according to a government evaluation released Saturday.
The report, requested by House Republicans, found that Medicare cuts contained in the health package approved by the House on Nov. 7 are likely to prove so costly to hospitals and nursing homes that they could stop taking Medicare altogether.
Congress could intervene to avoid such an outcome, but “so doing would likely result in significantly smaller actual savings” than is currently projected, according to the analysis by the chief actuary for the agency that administers Medicare and Medicaid. That would wipe out a big chunk of the financing for the health-care reform package, which is projected to cost $1.05 trillion over the next decade.
More generally, the report questions whether the country’s network of doctors and hospitals would be able to cope with the effects of a reform package expected to add more than 30 million people to the ranks of the insured, many of them through Medicaid, the public health program for the poor.
In the face of greatly increased demand for services, providers are likely to charge higher fees or take patients with better-paying private insurance over Medicaid recipients, “exacerbating existing access problems” in that program, according to the report from Richard S. Foster of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
Though the report does not attempt to quantify that impact, Foster writes: “It is reasonable to expect that a significant portion of the increased demand for Medicaid would not be realized.”
The report offers the clearest and most authoritative assessment to date of the effect that Democratic health reform proposals would have on Medicare and Medicaid, the nation’s largest public health programs. It analyzes the House bill, but the Senate is also expected to rely on hundreds of billions of dollars in Medicare cuts to finance the package that Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (D-Nev.) hopes to take to the floor this week. Like the House, the Senate is expected to propose adding millions of people to Medicaid.
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services administers the two health-care programs. Foster’s office acts as an independent technical adviser, serving both the administration and Congress. In that sense, it is similar to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, which also has questioned the sustainability of proposed Medicare cuts.
In its most recent analysis of the House bill, the CBO noted that Medicare spending per beneficiary would have to grow at roughly half the rate it has over the past two decades to meet the measure’s savings targets, a dramatic reduction that many budget and health policy experts consider unrealistic.
“This report confirms what virtually every independent expert has been saying: [House] Speaker [Nancy] Pelosi’s health-care bill will increase costs, not decrease them,” said Rep. Dave Camp (Mich.), the senior Republican on the House Ways and Means Committee. “This is a stark warning to every Republican, Democrat and independent worried about the financial future of this nation.”

This is a trade organization interested in protecting their own jobs; not an independent accounting review organization.

Obama is only interested in providing free health care for his homies in the hood. Everyone else is "expendable".
A federal agency (the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services) is a trade organization?
Medicare cuts reducing care for the elderly. Is this more of that "disinformation" I keep hearing about? Next they'll claim that the bill will improve this year's budget!
Right out of the gate the Libs demonstrate that to "bend the cost curve" you must deny care. Only a Democrat could spin this as an accounting positive as if it will actually happen. The biggest bang for the health care buck happens to lie very close to both the cradle and the grave. Since the plan is cradle to grave dependency, it makes sense to shorten this as much as possible. This small piece of accounting reveals the true intent of those itching to assume the levers of power over our entire lives.

Here is how it is, its all about hussein bankrupting AMERICA,trashing the CONSTITUTION and pitting the races against each other. hussein is hiding behind pelosi faggy fawnky and host of other liberals. His latest stunt in NYC will light the fuse,he will blame it on BUSH,and walk with billions.
The people in Washington simply aren't qualified to make the kinds of decisions they've been entrusted with making.
By and large, these are people who have seem not to understand basic economics.
They certainly have no business making important decisions about our lives involving trillions of dollars.
We can't trust them, therefore we can't respect them.
No trust, no respect.
For the good of humanity, we have to cut off their funding.
Obamacare-jail your political opponents if they dont pay their fair share, but when it comes to welfare recipients paying their fair share they dont have to go to jail cause they are Obama and Pelosi's political allies. If you disagree with Obamacare you are a criminal to be thrown in jail. This is not America
I'm confused. How is this a trade orginization? Their website falls under the Health and Human Services Department and they have a .gov web address.
Obamacare is a gift to the unions and to the malpractice lawyers. The rest of us are expendable. There's a reason they want cardcheck. Once they unionize the doctors, nurses and hospitals; legalize illegal aliens and offer them free healthcare at our expense, in addition to creating 111 new federal agencies of pencil pushers who will also get free healthcare, they will ram thru cardcheck to force everyone's vote out into the open and you all better be voting for the Dems and Obama or no healthcare for you!
One other thing. This isn't about healthcare. This is about health coverage. Selling insurance premiums. The insurance companies are exempt from lawsuits in Obama's plan. You can sue your doctor, but what if it's the fault of the insurer who denied the proper treatment? The patient has no recourse. That's why Queen Nancy can say the insurance companies must insure those with pre-existing conditions. It's all about selling premiums, but not necessarily providing care. Watch the word parsing. The large insurers will push the smaller ones out of business and then the gov't. will do the same to the large insurers, thus becoming the only game in town. Then watch prices skyrocket and care limited in order to prop up this disaster in the making.
Obama wants to increase the welfare rolls and put them to work as servants of the federal government in exchange for all the freebies he's promising them. By keeping people desperate, poor and uneducated, he insures that he and the Dems continue in power.
They are not throwing Grammy and Grandpop under the bus, they are throwing them under the mower.
Do the math, the only way to make socialized medicine work is ultimately to make beginning and end of life care as cheap as possible. There is no way around the fact that seniors and the neonatal with expensive medical complications aren't going to take a hit. The mindless little Obama campus brigade haven't figured that out. Thank God so many Tea Party seniors with real life experieces have.

"The mindless little Obama campus brigade haven't figured that out."
Here's the other cent onecent. I think the opposite. They have had this figured out for some time. What generation of seniors are we talking about? Well when these jokers were protesting "The Man" back in the sixties it were the very generations that are on the wrong end of their plan.
First they protested them. Now they clearly want to show them the door to the next life…where ever that may be. They can't have it both ways. They can't be as smart as they think they are and be this stupid at the same time. So if they are really that smart then the logical conclusion is that their 'plan' are sinister, callous and chilling.
I'm glad I'm younger than them. Getting rid of me will be harder.
Death panels anyone?
that is there key- keeping the masses poor and uneducated. I wish people would wake up. The Dems WANT you poor. They WANT you on welfare. They won't take there foot off your neck to save there own mother's life.
Wrong title should read Obama Care Could Reduce Seniors Needing Care
Dan, I am a Boomer, not all of us were feckless hippies and entitled children that never grew up. Many young men like my husband were risking their lives in Vietnam. Lefties did not need big numbers to become entrenched in the media and overrun our campuses. That alone has stopped fair and open public debate for decades.
Please folks, do some homework! This is not a trade organization, and Bushies almost fired Foster for telling the truth about their own "health reforms".
The report appears to say that more providers will stop accepting Medicare/Medicaid as a payer and make up the difference by getting higher rates from private insurers. I tell you Big Pharma, Big Med, Big Biz driving costs are not going to give up their share of the shamefully high 16% of GDP that health care industry sucks out of our pockets every day.

In order to recieve Medcaid nursing home care you must only show a $2,000.00 balance of ALL of your money.
Your family has to "spend-down" all of the money in patients accounts.
It may be spent on patient's home, new teeth, eyeglasses, clothes, etc.,
SO, now you are in a nursing home with $2,000.00 to your name.
Your reitirement check goes to the Nursing home. You have 35.00 a month "spending money".
Now that you are a paulper and have no money……….HE has decided to cut your healthcare.
That sounds like a great way to get rid of a host of expensive old people..
I think there is another name for this.
Fiscal conservatives should oppose the tactic of scaring seniors about cuts in Medicare, because it needs to be cut, as does social security and if we should ever get wise legislators back in control of Congress. This kind of tactic is why we oppose the government being involved in our seniors' golden years! We want free citizens who don't depend on the state and by extension politicians for their care!
