Developing: Lou Dobbs to Leave CNN, Last Show Tonight

Longtime CNN host Lou Dobbs shocked his viewers Wednesday by announcing that he would be leaving the network effective immediately.The daily host of “Lou Dobbs Tonight” addressed his viewers after giving the day’s headlines and told them Wednesday’s show would be his final time in the anchor chair.
“This will be my last broadcast,” he said.
He said CNN had allowed him to be released from his contract early and that he was considering a number of options for the next stage in his career.
“I will let you know when I set my course,” he said. He said he wanted to “contribute positively to a better understanding of the great issues of our day.”

It seems to us there is much more to this story. According to the story, Dobbs announced he was leaving to his staff just this afternoon. And coming so soon after that weird story about gunshots at Dobbs’ house raising at least the shadow of a red flag. Whatever one thinks of Lou Dobbs, he did have a pretty big audience. CNN can’t really do much worse than its last place ranking among news channels.

Hey any of you folks stay in Marriott hotels, I have been asking them why they always have CNN on in concierge, FNC is more popular, hence their guests want to watch FNC. They obviously have a policy to tune the TV to CNN as that is what it is always tuned to.
More voices asking the question might wake them up. Ask (politely) the concierge attendant, ask the manager, call or email corporate and request FNC.

Dobbs is a piece of work…
Who has carved out a niche as the 'keeper of the faith' as far as illegal immigration goes. We don't necessarily agree with him, but he is passionate about his cause and had a nice following.
Until now. One must take him at face values vis a vis the treats on his life. There is NO doubt he is unpopular in certain circles. But he should be able to ply his trade.
Hopefully he will find his new place in the dialectic. CNN is the net loser in this…
Lou Dobbs was the only voice-of-reason newscast on television. It is a great loss for all Americans and I hope for CNN's sake that it was he who chose to leave rather than a CNN decision. I like CNN, but their claim of news neutrality will be dealt a serious blow if they dumped him.

At the end of the sourced article it speculated that he might have been asked to leave, and goes on to state a latino group (never heard of them) claimed victory in getting him fired.

I watched Lou Dobbs' final show about his leaving CNN and the impression I got was that he was thinking of going into politics. Just the way it sounded to me though it was also reported that he had met with Ailes of Fox News. Either way, I wish him the best. He is leaving a den of vipers no matter where he goes….and I used to love CNN during the Gulf War.
Everyone loves to hate on CNN, but they are a great news gathering organization. They are actually respected throughout the world. Their coverage of the Arab states is second to none.

I do not think Dobbs invoked conservatives as dangerous. His house was shot… that was confirmed by a police investigation. Whether the people shot at him think of themselves as liberal or conservative, Dobbs should not have to deal with that kind of problem, and has a right to discuss it.
I don't think it matters that he's conservative enough… it matters that CNN doesn't welcome a legitimate and major point of view anymore. In leaving, the president of CNN insulted Dobbs's work as merely advocacy journalism. After 30 years at CNN, they owed him respect. How many journalists have worked for CNN longer than Dobbs? Zero. And now CNN people know what to expect if they work hard to build that company.

You know what else is great about CNN going off the air (ultimately)?
Fox can't handle all the talent that wants to be involved. At some point, the demand for news that shows both sides of the story is going to force the creation of another news network that tries to outfox-Fox, they will try to beat them at their own game by making sure both sides get heard. That can only be good for absolutely everyone.
So, in the not-so distant future, we are going to have multiple networks airing objective news that allows both sides to give commentary.
It's the end of an era. The mainstream media lost. They are still players (for a time), but they have officially lost the right to call themselves "mainstream".
I hope Lou Dobbs goes to FOX NEWS because he deserves better than to be on a liberal media channel. My opinion is he got fired because he didn't have the same beliefs like Anderson Cooper and Campbell Brown have.

Well CNN was taking a lot of flack from their viewer about Dobb's comments about illegal immigration and Obama's birth certificate. So now that he's gone they will have a much more content viewing base of around 100,000 people compared to Fox's 3M+ in every prime time slot. Dobbs will certainly resurface soon, most likely on FBN but possibly also on FNC.

Now if there were any honest reporters (get my message Olbermann, Mathews, et.al) at MSNBC that had any integrity instead of being libRETARD mouthpieces, they would leave too. I too only flipped channesl to CNN when Lou Dobbs was on since he was not afraid to speak the truth. CNN's ratings will plummet further. I now have no reason to ever leave FOX.

I really feel this is important, a large reason the public is so uninformed and government is able to get away with so much of the crap they pull is the willing media that allows unchecked corruption and lying.
FNC is not magically pure and right by any means but it is a step in the right direction.

I spent a few hours in a hospital waiting room a couple weeks ago. The TV was on "The View." It finally got to be too much. I asked if anyone minded watching something smarter. They all were happy to change it – to the Cartoon Network!
CNN is not afraid because maybe they are hoping that Obama will bail them out. Or once FCC starts implementing net neutrality that would eliminate competition and CNN be the last one standing.
The shooters better be careful. Lou grew up in Idaho. Out there, they learn to handle firearms early and well. He's probably a good shot himself and would be completely justified in exercising his Second Amendment rights to protect himself and his family. Whether he could get a fair trial in the aftermath, in that land of weepers and wimps, is an an entirely different question, however.

All of the above comments are correct. A couple of years ago CNN used to be a middle-of the road news agency (or at least tried to be). But they have slowly become a CBS, NBC, & ABC fodder for the far-left. Why do you think Glenn Beck left CNN? Lou is a real-deal guy who has always stood for the truth. I am a member of a local 24-Hour Fitness (Lakewood, CO). They have 12 tvs in the workout area, and at least five of them are tuned to CNN. I have asked on numerous occasions if they would switch at least one to FNC, with no luck. I always get the same story that the programming is computerized and they can't control it.
I suggest a swap. Fox Business News can have Dobbs and we will throw Shep Smith to CNN. The force will be balanced and the universe will align. Oh and speaking of divine intervention when will the seas go down and world peace start since our beloved Messiah Obama (PBUH)has been in office for almost a year now?

We make it a point to stay ONLY at hotels/motels that can deliver the Fox News Channel. FOX used to have a list on its website that showed the establishments where FNC is welcomed, perhaps it's still there.

I too have noticed that in most airports, doctors offices, hospitals and hotels the TVs are always tuned into CNN. If the TVs have controls I always just walk up and change them to FOX or ESPN. I have never had a complaint from anyone sitting in the room with me. CNN has become irrelevent because it is so partisan. It should just merge with MSNBC. The two of them together don't have half the ratings of FOX.

I happen to live fairly near Lou in northwestern NJ and although we're only maybe 45-50 miles from Manhattan, there are some pretty crazy back woods red-necks up in this area. I don't necessarily believe the shots came from illegal aliens, but wouldn't rule it out either.
O'Reilly isn't going anywhere, his ratings are thru the roof. I will agree though that I liked him more 3-4 years ago. He has become too much of a know-it-all blowhard and entertainer rather than an investigative reporter.
Lou Dobbs is an independent and really stands for the Constitution and rule of law. I'd be glad to see him on Fox News. Now, I can totally ignore CNN since his was the only program I watched there.

I do agree and we should be polite and ask the people in the room.
But that isn't my point, I think the TV's should be tuned to the more popular channel by the concierge staff when they turn the thing on in the morning. Most people, although they may prefer to not watch CNN, will not take the initiative to change the channel. Hence they are essentially force fed this crap.
And the further question is, why do they choose CNN to begin with? Is this corporate policy? Official or unofficial? Because near every damned Marriott concierge from El Segundo to Orlando to Vancouver to Montreal is tuned to CNN.
