House Passes PelosiCare
by PubliusJust after 11pm EST, the House of Representatives passed the 2,000+ page Pelosi Health Care bill by a vote of 220-215. 39 Democrats were given the opportunity to vote no, in what will go down in history as the most ’structured’ roll call of all time. (1 GOP member, Rep. Cao from New Orleans voted with the Democrats.) The Senate is unlikely to take up any health care reform legislation this year. With unemployment expected to stay above 10% through at least the early part of next year, it isn’t certain the Senate will ever take it up.
This wasn’t unexpected. What someone will have to explain to us in the future is, why did the GOP let many pro-life Democrats off-the-hook by supporting the Stupak Amendment to, perhaps, prevent federal funds from being spent on abortion. As usual, the GOP tried to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory and gave some conservative democrats cover going into the fall elections.
Update: Not really an update, but something we should have noted at the outset. Although Obama and Congressional Leadership have been stressing the absolute urgency of passing this bill, most of the provisions–the ones expanding benefits, etc–don’t take effect until 2013. (That’s a pretty long-lead time for something that is so urgent, if you ask us.) Of course, the tax increases take effect much sooner.

Health Care just passed the House. Help me, I'm going to be sick!

I am being sick with you, it is the rotting smell from the house getting all the way through the country.
Let the 2010 pushback begin! Yes, this is depressing but let's face it, the institution of government is broken. This is not about health care, this is about power. Every American must rise up to take back the power. The RNC better get on board with the principles this country was founded on. No more Obama-lite crap.
Unfortunately, we can't assume that this monstorsity will just die. We must stay vigilant and fight this–just like cap and trade.
Democrats deserve the kind of health care the government will provide.

Joseph Cao was welcomed in October as the Newest Member of the TARP Oversight committee – there's a clip on C-SPAN of his "welcome" – how hard he fought to get on the committee, etc. Gee, he's from Louisiana – down there in Katrina land – and he wants to keep a close eye on funding and ethics…

If this passes the senate and is signed into law, what are the odds we see 14% unemployment by November 7, 2010? Go ahead and pass Wagner 2.0 and let's see if we can achieve 17 or 18%. Does anyone do the math anymore? I wonder if Obama will be treated as well as Buchanan?

I'm not giving Bush a free pass on the damage he did. But if you think that I'm "gonna like it", you are sorely mistaken. The Constitution was in tatters, and had been going that way for a few decades, these people just shredded it.

Did you notice that Ford, the onlycar company not run by the government, was the only car company to make a profit this last quarter? What does that tell you?
I always wondered how the government would handle the huge number of "Baby Boomer" retirements even though they had decades to prepare for it. Easy, drastically limit health care for them and let nature run its course…problem solved!

If all hope is lost, and you don't want your cat to have an abortion, you can always say that at least 1 life was created or saved as a result of not having the abortion.
If your cat still decides to go forward with the abortion, you can always claim that it was a victim of a circumstance that was much worse than you originally predicted when you got the cat.
