Thank God for unfettered Capitalism. And there is no team on the planet that exemplifies that more than the Yankees.

They pour profits back into the business, and excellence (not parity) is their stated goal.

Reagan would have loved it.

Phillies fans are used to the heartbreak in the regular season. What makes it tougher with these guys is they all seem genuine and more like a team than any they faced in the post season.

Why is it a thousand times more heart-breaking for the Phillies to loose the World Series, than when they don't even make the play-offs? I'm a Phillies Phan as well...

There's a reason why NFL football has eclipsed baseball as America's sport: more competition due to revenue sharing and salary caps. As un-capitalistic as that sounds, teams like Green Bay can compete with large market rich teams like Dallas, New York, and New England for top talent. This drives up total league revenues. Baseball on the other hand is marked by a few large market teams competing for top notch free agent talent while the small market teams have a competitive disadvantage. Yes, there are plucky exceptions like Minnesota, but most of the time it's either the Yankees or the Red Sox making the playoffs and getting the free agents. It's getting to be a lot like the Harlem Globetrotters (the Yankees) vs the Washington Generals (most small market teams). Why go through the 162 game season if you're in Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Kansas City, etc?

I used to have a Yankees season-ticket package in 1998. The following year, the closest comparable package had twice the number of games at a higher price per game. I just couldn't do it, so I dropped the package.

Having said that; as a fan, I'd rather they win and the games cost more, than lose and cost less. It's a pain getting to the stadium anyway.

That's correct, they couldn't win if the other teams didn't lose. It's about time losers of the world are rewarded for the important role they play in our society:-)
