Buried in the thousands of pages of the health care bills drafted by Democrats in the House and Senate is a provision to protect insurance companies from legal accountability for benefit decisions that cause injury or death to patients, Republicans warned on Wednesday.
“You can sue your doctor for malpractice if he makes a mistake practicing medicine, but you cannot sue your insurance company when it makes a medical decision,” Rep. John Shadegg (R-Ariz.) said at the press conference near the steps of the Capitol. “That’s just wrong.
Shadegg pointed to page 140 of H.R. 3962 and page 56 of S. 1796, which include language providing immunity for insurance companies, even if the actions they take result in injury or death.

Boy, talk about trying to buy support. This is even more ludicrous than when Obama tried to show that the doctors of this nation support him with that little stunt at the WH after accusing doctors of "gaming" the system by needlessly removing various body parts.
And all of this because they care about the people. LOL! Suckers! Wake up, people! How long before you people GET it?!
She is never going to deliver on it because the Dems with their big donations from litigators refuse to legislate and pass a tort reform bill. Pelosi little insertion is meaningless. Frivolous lawsuits and the high cost of defensive medical practice will continue to add to the cost of healthcare.

This isn't about the insurance companies, it's about protecting the government. Their goal is to move toward single payer via the public option administered by the government. As with any other government administered plan, there will inevitably be rationing and very long waits for all by emergency procedures. Of course this will lead to much unnecessary suffering and even death. The government doesn't want a bunch of embarassing lawsuits filed against the public option, so this is a preemptive strike to avoid that problem.

I think that's only part of it Cowboy, if they can pass this bill or something like it then it will give them control over every aspect of a US citizens life, not to mention government growth which is the only way for them to get ever more power.
It plays a triple role for sure, it acts as a distraction becasue they have no solutions for the other issues, but it's also a way around certain constitutional issues that they have about controlling us, and it's a way to increase thier power base which is always a goal regardless of damage to the country as a whole.
It's about as neferious as it gets, if they tack on Cap-N-Tax they will have us by the short hairs and it will be very difficult to wiggle our way loose (what visual that brought up Nazi-Pelosi grabbing someon by their short hairs)
They are fighting on multiple fronts, if they lose one they will just switch to the other, and I am convinced Obama knows exactly what he is doing, these are all torpedoe's aimed at the US, if one strikes squarely home it's going to take some repair time.
A lot of good immunity will do when they're out of business.

If the insurance agents fall for this they are fools, the Dem's are just baiting a trap, they will happily back track after the fact and undo any goodies that they have placed in here for any industries.
AARP is falling for the same kind of trap, some members shoudl sue THEM for what they are doing, a nice class action against AARP for endorsing this monstrosity if it passes should happen within 24 hours since it does irrepairable harm to it's memebrs, wouldnt that be precious?
So it's the Republicans that are supporting the evil Insurance agencies by not forcing preexisting conditions? This is just like phasing in taxes to sell a bill. They will force the insurance companies to "cover" preexisting conditions but they really won't have to pay for the procedures or therapy if they don't want to. It's just like "he was for it before he was against it". It's no wonder these bills are so massive. Look at all the double talk and crawfishing!
Excellent point! Make them feel all warm and fuzzy and when their so distracted counting the money we will raise taxes again. This is what I love. The plan offers the insurance industry and bevie of new costumer from who they can receive premiums but in the fine print is a windfall tax on the insurance industry. Meanwhile we will keep you solvent by upholding your exemption from antitrust laws while preventing you from competing across state lines. Do these people know how to "regulate" or what?

It's probably a protection racket (without reading what's really going on) conducted by Axelrod for his former firm. The firm owes him $2 million and his brother, son and daughter still work there, may even own it. Any insurers and Big Pharma (who have joined) will get protection. Another quid pro quo c/o Bambi for his friends. Bambi loves to shape policy as to how it can make his friends and cronies wealthier, with a little kickback (oh, excuse me, campaign donation) for himself.
What I don't understand about the health care debate is this. Many people that oppose the bill say they don't want to be forced to pay (through taxes) for other people to have basic health care coverage. Fair enough. But then they say that they're Christian, too. But doesn't the New Testament "force" you to do just that- help other people? I mean, without helping others, you will not get into heaven. For a true believer, that should feel like a commandment, no?

On September 24, Speaker Nancy Pelosi told THE WEEKLY STANDARD that she was "absolutely" committed to putting the text of the final House bill online for 72 hours before the House votes:

PELOSI: Absolutely. Without question.
But tonight, when asked if Speaker Pelosi will leave the bill online for 72 hours after we see what's in the rule, Pelosi spokesman Brendan Daly replied in an email: "No; [the] pledge was to have manager’s amendment online for 72 hours, and we will do that."
Apparently Pelosi's agreement to leave the "final" bill online "at the very end" of the process wasn't such a straightforward pledge.
They won;t get it because more and more do not pay taxes so they do not care – they have been zombied by the government "obama money" and are never coming back… Thing is, soon their will be not enough to pay for all this and then they will look to the government to help them and maybe then they will see that standing in the food lines are no fun….

I have been a healthcare provider for over 17 years and have seen the changes in the system from the inside. It all started with Hilary Clinton's push for "managed care". That has been a miserable nightmare for physicians and more importantly the patient. This bill will be even worse. It will give insurance companies unprecedented power to deny coverage and legitimate claims, all in the name of increasing profit margins. This will do nothing more than drive up the already skyrocketing cost of healthcare for the average American and God help you if you have to rely on the government for your health care needs. This "immunity" is nothing more than Pelosi's gang inviting the "turkey" to dinner when he unknowingly is the main course.
