Sunday Open Thread: Birth of a Movement Edition
by PubliusToday, in 1765, the British Government began enforcing the Stamp Act, a tax on all legal documents and publications in the American colonies, enacted earlier in the year. Passage of the Act sparked widespread protests and gave birth to the slogan, “No Taxation Without Representation”, as well as the formal organization of the “Sons of Liberty.” It also moved Patrick Henry and the Virginia House of Burgesses (pictured below) to pass the “Virginia Resolves,” one of the first expressions of colonial disagreement with the distant Monarchy.

Birth of a movement?
“Sons of Liberty,” “No Taxation Without Representation”? I think Breitbart is going to show big government exactly what Big Government.com can do. Every movement has to start somewhere. That entire movement, started many years ago, was started because people were pushed past the breaking point. Just as we were. Thankfully, at least we don't have to wear those silly powdered wigs.
Give me liberty, or give me death! The modern liberal simply says, gimme, gimme, gimme, …ba…whaaaaa… mine, …gimme, gimme, gimme, mine…
Here’s a question:
If the majority power in government has closed door meetings, negotiations and deals framing a bill leaving out the minority,__ and then forces a vote on a bill without a chance of the voters knowing what is in it or their representatives time to even read it, __ thus ends up a party-line vote on a bill that increases taxes.
Would that equate to taxation without representation?

Wouldn't Obama and his band of merry mischief makers go into convulsions, if "someone" put up a satellite that could carry Glenn Beck, Rush and the Right Conservative movement? A satellite that Obama couldn't touch. Isn't technology great? So is capitalism. Wharever there is a market, there will be people willing to risk capital to fill those niche markets. Years ago, during the last Cold War, the American Government had "Radio Free Europe" where they blasted radio programs across the Iron Curtain.
Those days are coming back………………..
The similarities with todays Americans getting sick and tired of DC shenanigans is SO somparable to what happened in the late 1700's. The scary thing is, the US military machine is a WEE bit different than in 1779. And who's in control of it? Time for us to USE the constitution to defend our children, our country and ourselves before it's amended out of existance by people that are already blatantly ignoring it.
Our government – all of it, federal and state – is no longer fulfilling The Dreams From Our Fore Fathers. Honestly, IMHO we get the government we deserve. Over the last couple of years, with few exceptions, everyone I talked to either was too busy to care, or "didn't like politics" or was "not interested in politics", or thought 'anyone is better than Bush'. When I mentioned that it was never a good idea to have one party in control of the Presidency and both houses of Congress. . .I got the deer-in-the-headlight look. There is a lot truth in the old saying, "it's too late to close the barn door after the horses are all gone". I fear the narcissism in the White House is not a unique characteristic, but actually a reflection of the majority of our citizens. And I'm not convinced people who now care understand they need to care for the rest of their lives and pass it on to their children and grandchildren. The apathetic, hooray for me and mine philosophy of life has got to end. (Of course, I HOPE I'm wrong.)
The Stamp Act went beyond the tax thing, limiting the common man's access to information. It was this deliberate attempt to "keep 'em ignorant" that evoked John Adams' "Dissertation on the Canon Law and the Feudal Law," in which he blasted the English clergy (who belittled the Colonials' determination to inform themselves), metaphorically linking them with the old feudal lords who maintained control by keeping their 'charges' ignorant, dependent and oppressed.
Makes you sort of wonder how Adams would have responded to the present war on Fox and Limbaugh, et. al?

The government is essentially shutting people out of the Capital. Not allowing them to enter in an attempt to stifle them. Consequently, the government can then say "there were no opposing voices.". The government refused access to this group last week, after letting some in to deliver petitions. It is an abomination, and is an insult to our free form of government.
Dudes and dudettes….not to get too dramatic, but during the Revolutionary War, New Jersey was George’s first victory(victory or death) against the enemy, they were German mercenaries (…We had bloody feet and were getting ready to fold (soldiers, farmers, sons and fathers)….So if the New Jersey tea party people don’t bring us to victory, Washington will send them back over the Delaware. (btw) blacks and indians fought with the British…..blacks were promised their freedom and money to fight against the Revolutionaries…I want reparations and a part of a casino.

That might be a good day for US all to go to Washington. Give them a dose of Hope and Change that THEY can believe in. The ONE thing that the government fears the most, is an organized US.
Those people in Washington are despicable. They are an abomination to freemen everywhere, and their "collective" behavior is abhorrent to decent Americans.

It is time for an amendment giving the right to vote only to those citizens who contribute to the American economy. Politicians use our tax dollars for votes by promising the moon to those who make no contribution whatsoever. In effect, the votes of productive citizens are being diluted. I believe we are at the point of seeing "taxation without representation" and we cannot continue down this road.

Principles of Political Power
#1 – Hold on Political Power is Relative
Any rational individual that finds themselves in a position of power will more freely relinquish their powers if they are expected to do so; where given the opportunity, if one exists, as well as if encouraged by their factions to remain, they will justify the need to remain in power.
#2 – Relative Political Power is based on Length of Time

#3 – Political Power directly impacts Freewill
Those who have political power will by definition have power over the subsistence, or the means of providing, of those they govern. And in the general course of human nature, a power over an individual's subsistence amounts to a power over their ability to express their freewill.
#4 – Political Power, unchecked, will lead to Tyranny
Any power that can be abused will be abused and will always expand to fill the limits of the resistance to the abuse. If the people being abused don't resist the abuses of those that govern them, there will be no one to resist the abuses they will inflict once they are governing, such that tyranny, in the end, must prevail.
#5 – Governance Can be Crafted to Guarantee Tyrants do not Evolve
For a government to ensure that all of the individuals in which they govern are not lead to suffer through unfair and unjust laws defining the line of separation of right and wrong which could bring an advantage to those whom govern, the government must be constructed on a foundation around what they can do on the behalf of the people as well as clear rules around what they CANNOT do to those they govern, with the correct mechanisms in place to ensure and guarantee that men/women that do gain and decide to wield their power with abandon are quickly removed.

FOX News Sunday Chris Wallace interview with Rush Limbaugh today,
Whatever the take is on Rush, whether one loves him, or hates him, he certainly did a great interview today. The NFL doing what they did to him recently is the best move they ever made. Rush is about to take a giant step forward into the political arena in another direction. He is the only one who is capable of articulating coherent thoughts in the Republican party.
I have a new outlook on Rush.
Socialism and Marxism should have been relegated to the crapper after the second world war. The stimulus that is being spent is now the debt of the American People. We The People are refused an accounting of these stimulus monies which the government has taken from us and refuses to account for. And Americans are filing for bankruptcy greater than ever before. We have worse than taxation without representation. We the People have no representation. There is no one there amongst our governing servants who are protecting the best interests of the American People. No One. No One.
Because this burden is now multigenerational. Does our government have the legal authority to impose a permanent tax born citizens for our trillions of dollars of debts? There is truly a peversion here. Ask anyone if this burden of debt is good for the American people. And then ask how all of this is to be paid for.
