WSJ: Andrew Breitbart Taking On the ‘Democrat-Media Complex’
by PubliusFrom the Wall Street Journal:
The conservative Internet entrepreneur on bringing down Acorn, Hollywood liberals, and embarrassing the mainstream media.
Hollywood
Dressing up as a pimp and prostitute in order to seek Acorn’s help in starting a child sex-slavery ring wasn’t Andrew Breitbart’s idea. But without the Internet entrepreneur’s flair for publicity, the hidden-camera sting might not have produced such impressive results. Within days of his publishing the video exposé, government agencies were cutting ties with the left-wing advocacy and community-organizing group, Congress was voting to end its federal funding, and news organizations were rushing to catch up with a sensational story they had initially resisted or ignored.
James O’Keefe, the 25-year-old aspiring filmmaker who played the pimp in the Acorn meetings, came to Mr. Breitbart in early August with his videos. They showed Mr. O’Keefe and his putative partner in crime, 20-year-old Hannah Giles, asking Acorn counselors for advice on how to evade the authorities while setting up a business offering the sexual services of underage girls smuggled into the U.S. from El Salvador. It was a shocking and outlandish tale, but employees in at least five Acorn offices fell for it and offered to help.
“I had a 20-year-old and a 25-year-old and my integrity on the line if we were going to launch this,” Mr. Breitbart says. “It was so obvious that the mainstream media, given this information, would not cover it and would, in effect, attempt to cover it up.” So he devised an intricate strategy of rolling out the videos one at a time, anticipating Acorn’s defenses and rebutting each in turn with the next video.
The first, recorded at Acorn’s Baltimore office, appeared Sept. 10 on Fox News Channel and on Mr. Breitbart’s new Web site, BigGovernment.com, a group blog that combines reporting and libertarian-leaning polemics. Four more videos followed over the next week. “This plan wasn’t just a means to defend against the media’s desire to attack the messenger,” Mr. Breitbart says. “It was also a means to attack the media and to expose them . . . for the partisan hacks that they are.” One need not agree with that harsh characterization to acknowledge that Mr. Breitbart largely succeeded in catching news organizations flat-footed and embarrassing them into reluctantly covering the story.

That was a nice article. It is time for someone to take on the "Democrat Media Complex", especially since the White House has declared war on FOX and opened up a new front. As to the Wall Street Journal, Peggy Noonan has been strangely out of step with this scandal. I wonder why?

Frankly, I find parts of the article seemingly intellectually dishonest. First of all, the author of the article says: "…lying to prospective sources or subjects—is grossly unethical by the standards of institutional journalism." Yet we all see "respected news organizations" ("20/20" comes to mind) that create scenarios to capture people's reactions. It it outright lying? No. But I don't see a heck of a lot of difference between what O'Keefe and Giles did and "20/20" "planting" somebody to spike a girls drink at a bar (or pick your favorite "gotcha" scenario) to "see what the other customers would do." Or have you ever seen your local news take a hidden camera to catch those mean ol' rip-off mechanics? Then I guess every news agency that has done anything resembling that is guilty of "unethical standards."
Secondly, he says of the MSM: "Their role—that of impartial watchdog and broker of information—is a vital one, whether or not they perform it well. " Whether or not they perform it well? How about performing it at all. Dan Rather exposed himself as a disgusting partisan hack and Charles "Charlie" Gibson did the same thing. The idea of an objective, news reporting agency is all but dead. One MAY be able to find some semblance of news-only reporting on your local stations, but I won't watch one minute of a national news broadcast.

Hey Cowboy,
You write enough comments on this site, you need to write an article, for this site, on how the Democrats have turned your FLAG UPSIDE DOWN
The fabricated smears of racism against Rush Limbaugh would make for a good report. That is a story that has played out so well that even a Hollywood producer could not have written a better script. The entire set-up is now being documented through internet IP records of people tied to the Obama administration in their attempt to destroy Rush with the sin of all sins, racism.
Only this story should not end on that note. The all new and improved "Hate Crimes" legislation is perfectly tailored for a situation such as this. Race baiting and the attribution of FAKE QUOTES (against the one man who is too big to be beaten with words) in a purely slanderous and libelous manner which attempts to divide Americans by hate-filled rage.
Please splash this store nationwide and clear Rush of the attempts to massacre his reputation. We simply must not allow ourselves to be manipulated by such smallness.
Hmm.
I don't know if you're being serious, facetious or sarcastic. It is hard to read tonal inflection in cyberland. I read alot of material, and write alot also. I do have a different perspective than most, and although I have never been a comunity organizer, run for public office or won a Nobel Peace Prize, I have created jobs, paid taxes and employeed people. Quite frankly, I do not think Breitbart would want any of my material, they won;t even let me post freely on Big Hollywood………………..
In any event, I think you are savvy enough to know why that flag is upside down, and what it implies.
Well done Andrew, you’ve got the MSM looking over their shoulder, wonderful stuff. Competition my ass, it’s a righteous assault on the corrupt 4th estate, who uses the 1st Amendment as a license to lie, cheat, and steal. Keep it up Andrew, the left is a mile wide and a 1/32 inch thick prod and probe, and the criminal leftist charade evaporates …cool!
So I guess you don't do "Straight" news Andrew. Thank God for that, is all I can say.
Here is the best oneliner of the week:
"‘We should stop comparing Obama to Hitler. Hitler got the Olympics to come to Berlin."
She's a Vichy Conservative, is why.
Keep up the good, hard work, Mr. Breitbart. You're offering a deep reservoir of sanity and hope for so many of us. My sincere thanks and support.
like rush says… right on.. right on .. right on…
Hillbilly, I agree w/ you on 20/20 setting people up."Outright lying? No", comment. I really like Brietbarts approach,it is "guerilla warfare",which is to be used during these trying times. No more standing in formation and firing your weapon. The rules of engagment have changed in journalism.I think Brietbart is wrong on one aspect, someone or something will have to destroy the liberal media. I really do not believe they will change. The "General Electrics,Ted Turners. and George Soros', need to be exposed first, in order to get the bias media to start "investigative" reporting .
LOL where did you get that quote frome? I like it !!!
LOL where did you get that quote from? I like it !!!
Dang!! My spelling socks, "Breitbart" LOL
Great point. I always thought a lot of Peggy Noonan. She is bright and well written. She did a good book on Reagan, but her stance on Palin turned me off. She acted like a liberal eliteist.
And don't forget the "To Catch a Predator" series…
Andrew is our next best hope. Will not permit leg to be peed on and think it is raining! My most favorite journalist!
that's true…she's turned her coat.
The libs like to kick Rush Limbaugh around, but they don't seem to be asking anymore in their smug way "who is the leader of the conservative movement?"____They don't like the new answer, which is "Andrew Breitbart."

Breitbart ought to even enjoy this, it touches on most of the current topics:

That's a hoot. Obama and his national socialists are LESS SUCCESSFUL than Hitler and his National Socialists…
We'll stop Obama and his jackboots before they get out of hand…no Chamberlains here.
This time last year there was a whole lotta talk about 'fundementally changing' the USA. We are now seeing that those changes are far from what any of the pundits would have or could have predicted. Strangely I am not talking about Obama or his lunatic redistributive / social justice theories. I am suggesting that changes that were building for the last 20 years with the internet and the media. The landscape and relationship of the media and the new technolgies were and are still growing and learning. Combinations are showing that were never expected much less planned for. The laws of unintended consequences remain immutable and inscrutable. Who would have guessed that the internet / social network tech / blogs would lead to the Democratization of the 4th Estate. The hell with the ivory towers and the felonious sanctimony of the world of Journalism. Andrew, Matt, and Hannah and James fired the opening salvos in this revolution. Not only is the news 24/7 but the eyes that see and the ears that hear and the mouths that report have overnight grown a million fold. The genie os out of the bottle, let's see where we go from here, hang on its gonig to be a wild ride.

Well done, Andrew. Your genius was in feeding the ACORN videos in drips to the MSM hacks. Each one provoked a frenzy of denial and denounciation until it enveloped them.
Thank you for being the renegade.
Now, as individuals, we all have to get involved in Party politics. "We the [conservative] people" have not been engaged in Party politics and as a result we have a Marxist in the White House.
Want to really "do something"? Become a Republican Party precinct committeeman ("PC").
Go here to learn more: http://www.theprecinctproject.wordpress.com
PCs get to vote for the leadership of the Party and help determine, my majority vote, which candidates get the endorsement of the Party in the Republican primary races. Only takes a few hours of time a month. With half the PC slots in the Party nationwide vacant, and with a fifty-fifty split right now between conservatives and moderate RINOs in the PC ranks, the Party is there for the taking by conservatives/libertarians if we'd all just get off our duffs and get to a meeting of the local GOP and volunteer to become a PC. Want to save your country? Then invigorate the "main enemy" of the Debtocrat/Socialist Party with your presence.
(By the way, half of the Party leadership, the moderates, DON'T WANT YOU TO BECOME A PC, BECAUSE THEY AND THEIR RINO CRONIES WILL GET VOTED OUT OF THE LEADERSHIP — THEY DON'T WANT YOU TO KNOW ABOUT THIS BASIC CIVICS.)
Becoming a PC should be every conservative's first priority. Blogging and carrying a sign at a Tea Party or attending a town hall is great, but unless we have better leadership and candidates in the main adversary party, the Debtocrats will get returned to power. It's all about the Constitution and all about winning the elections. The best way to restore the Constitution and to have better candidates who respect the Constitution is to join the Republican Party at the grass roots and make it happen. It's a numbers game. The more conservatives we have in the Party in the precinct committeemen ranks, the more likely it will be that we'll get better elected leadership within the Party and in the general elections. Michael Steele was elected not by registered Republicans but by the precinct committeemen in all fifty states.
Also, you can go to http://www.redstate.com to learn more, too. Just type in the words precinct and committeeman into the search pane and hit the search button and links to a lot of good info will be presented too you.
Thank you.
Cold Warrior
I am only one. But I am a conservative Republican precinct committeeman and desperately trying to get other Constitution-loving conservatives and libertarians to do the same.

Great one Cowboy!
I am curious,
What is your take on the reported information, of Obama signing a treaty in Copenhagen this December, that will cede US Sovereignty?

This interview exemplifies why The Wall Street Journal has surpassed USA Today.
This interview exemplifies (one reason anyway) why The Wall Street Journal has surpassed USA Today.
No kidding. I used to really like Noonan's writings. She's done a 180.
Inspiring: good adjective for his work. Uplifting and admirable, too.
PREDICTION (carve it in stone)
Within days the left will launch a SMEAR against the Wall Street Journal for publishing this piece on Adnrew Breitbart and the Rush Limbaugh op-ed.'
SUGGESTION
Have a piece time-stamped, verified, and embargoed to launch within minutes of the initiation of (any) smear campaign.

Yea like others Noonan is disturbed concerning Sarah Palin who has a great article on 'drill baby drill' on I believe I read it on National Review. It's listed at the top of Big Gov't and it's a pretty good writing IMHO!
Wouldn't it be a riot to see a ticket of Sarah Palin and Michelle Bachman? Wouldn't that throw the looney left into a fit of the vapors? They woud be foaming and frothing at the mouth, while lying on the floor gesticulating and spasming like epileptic fish…………..
I agree Terry and please by all means silence those two black preachers Jackson n Sharpton. I was fairly proud of Juan Williams on O'Reilly tonite. He had that ex football player from Seattle who is now a minister called by Rush 'Hutch' on with Tammy Bruce and it was a good segment for sure…
This'll explain part of it:
Before entering the Reagan White House, Noonan was a producer at CBS News in New York, where she wrote and produced Dan Rather’s daily radio commentary. She also wrote television news specials for CBS News. As editorial and public affairs director at WEEI-AM, the CBS owned station in Boston, she won the Tom Phillips Award for broadcast commentary. In 1978 and 1979 she was an adjunct professor of journalism at New York University.
She has been within the belly of the beast for so long, that she had become conflicted. No different than Lindsey Graham. She write enough to make a decent living, but has begun holding back, afraid to take a stand and say what she believes, instead of saying what will sell, and be glossed over.

Cowboy, no idea who you are but you took a thought right out of my mouth concerning Palin and Bachman. I think w'o a doubt it would be a winning combination …..especially if zero man keeps doing what he is doing. Being narcissistic makes me think that he will actually bury himself. He has a attitude problem and thinks he is always right so I'm thinking he has set his own trap so to speak!!!
I have a policy of never picking an argument with someone who owns a microphone. That's why I don't call in to talk stations. Picking a fight with Limbaugh and Fox News is stupid. The Fawning Media and White House sure likes to charge into the maw of the cannon. "Into the valley of death rode the 600…"
If you are not aware of this, you should be, and talk to everyone you know about it.

The Nobel Prize winner is doing much, behind our backs, and it is not in our best interest.
They really need to get out more. The "elite" truly are isolated.
If Borat won the Noble Piece Prize, those kids certainly deserve Pulitzers.
I am sure The One will next win the Wurlitzer Prize.
"The approach Mr. O'Keefe and Ms. Giles used—lying to prospective sources or subjects—is grossly unethical by the standards of institutional journalism."
And forging memos in order to throw a presidential election? Is THAT ethical?
How about attributing racist comments, invented out of whole cloth, to a talk show host who never said them? Is THAT ethical?
How about Anderson Cooper and his infamous "tea-bagging" comment? Is THAT ethical?
And the way Susan Rosegen treated the Chicago tea party protesters? Was THAT ethical?
And the way Sarah Palin and her entire family were treated by the MSM? Was THAT ethical?
You can take your "ethical standards" and shove them where the sun don't shine. The media we have today are not an "impartial watchdog," but a fawning lapdog of the Democrat Party and the current administration.
Thank you, Mr. Breitbart, for doing what the "impartial watchdog" refuses to do; i.e., TELL THE TRUTH.
LOL!
I was thinking the same thing. I worked in television and newspaper when I was younger and found that the producers/editors I worked for had no issue whatsoever as to how I got the information for a story– as long as it could get past the lawyers. I knew producers who were outright dishonest when they wrote up certain stories and they didn't care at all– again, as long as they could get away with it. It was all about creating as much drama for a story as possible. The WSJ is better than a lot of big journalistic institutions when it comes to reporting stories. But I guarantee the main-stream press isn't staying away from the ACORN story for fear it's dishonest. That kind of scandal is usually their bread and butter. And, frankly, Andrew is the one who stuck his neck out. All they have to do is report on what Andrew put on his site. Nope. It's the politics of the editors and producers. I'd put money on it and anyone who bet against that would be a sucker.
I liked'
"We don't disagree with Obama because he's black…………………………..it's because he's RED".
LOL.
A dream ticket for the Democrats. The only people who would vote for Palin-Bachman are the kind of crackpots who populate this site. I hate to break it to you, but you/they account for 25% of the voting public, tops. Can you say landslide?
A Pulitzer Prize to the bold journalists discussed in this post — James, Hannah, Andrew — would definitely be well-deserved. . .and a mracle if that would happen in the current political climate.
Seriously, if what the MSM is doing is "straight" news, I would hate to see the crooked kind.
She's actually far worse than that………….she's more like one of those French women who became Nazi's mistresses and later had their hair all shorn off !
Wait, I take that back…….Peggy is much more like an European Jew who turned in all the jews he knew, to the Nazis; a la George Soros.
Don't forget that Peggy began trashing President Bush the younger, the day of his first Inaugural.
The woman is an aged ingenue, not to mention a hack and her overly flowery/saccharine prose is very annoying and cloying, by the third paragraph.
Troll…………………Obama is petrified of Palin, which is why , right after her fantastic acceptance speech at the GOP Convention, he and his drooling sycophants set out to dxestroy her, using Alinsky's RULES.
With the vast majority of Independents, seniors, and many Dems now running away from Obama, as fast as they can, it is YOU who are the "crackpot".
Can you say "ONE TERMER" ?
The savvy shown by Andrew Breitbart in deconstructing the "Democrat Media Complex" is inspiring. The hypocracy that the left specializes in depends on uninformed people and Breitbart is educating those who care about the "Chicago Machine" corruption that is taking place in a sickening fashion. My money's on Andrew in this war of freedom vs. tyranny.
Hmm.

Breitbart is a waft of fresh air in an otherwise stinking room awash with leftist odor. He has provided more than temporary relief with his acuity at manipulating the MSM. The MSM got caught in their worst nightmare….. a collosal series of news events and exposures that THEY were not a part of (Jones & Giles).
Their badge of "collective irrelevance" is now theirs to proudly wear amidst the wave of new disclosure media authored by Breitbart and his staff. Way to go, Andrew !
Next, should be a SEIU take down. Meantime, we need to extend the Acorn mockery.
1. Is ACORN in charge of printing money in the FED ? …cz deficits are huge and don't add up.
2. Is ACORN in charge of closing GITMO prisoners to the US? … cz it's not closing
3. Is ACORN in charge of getting illegals getting health care? …looks like it, despite Obama promise
4. Is ACORN in charge of keeping the budget in line with CBO? …cz looks like numbers are wacko
5. Is ACORN in charge of preventing government abortions? ….cz it made it in there after Obamas promise.
Mr. Breitbart you are the new 60 minutes, the Vainstream media is in bed with the govt., alot has to do with them kissing gov butt because they dont want to end up like GM, as we know the govt. is in charge of the liscences for broadcasting but at some point you cant just be their lackeys and this is where you have come in to fill the void, in my opinion. hell the govt. is trying to get in bed(bill clinton) with more and more parts of our economy, and my definition of socialism is nothing but govt. interference in free markets and free enterprises to the detriment of the People because socialism is a much inferior economic system that capitalism primarily because socialism robs the People of their right to vote with their money in a free market, an economic democracy if you will. Instead socialism is an economy based on what govt. bureaucrats decide what the People need, and this is what Obama and his delusinal castro lovin ilk are up to. The People have to stand up for their right to free market democracy and not let socialists take it away and give it to czars. Liberals are hopelessly envious and vain and will resist emancipation from their mental slavery.
Andrew Bretbart, Thank you very much for continued fortitude in your journalistic endeavors.
I happened upon this Joseph Pulitzer quote. . .this very aptly describes your successful approach.
Put it before them briefly so they will read it, clearly so they will appreciate it, picturesquely so they will remember it and, above all, accurately so they will be guided by its light.
–Joseph Pulitzer
MSM/Hollywood have abdicated their responsilbilty to the citizens to whom they speak. Instead of truth, they promote the utopian nightmare from a script they allmust be taught in j-school.
"Hello, Kettle?" "Yeah, MSM here. We just called to tell you you're black."
(in the interest of full disclosure, that line was adapted from Phoebe dogging Monica in a Friends episode. i didn't want to be accused of plagiarism, but i do think it falls within 'fair use'. see how easy that was Messrs. Fairey & Biden?)
Yeah and a community organizer with 2 years experience as a Junior Senator and with a voting record of "present" had NO chance of being elected…
Stranger things have happened than a Palin/Bachmann win in 2012. What exactly is it that sends people into a tizzy when these two women are mentioned?

I'll give her this: she can read. Hence the speech. Beyond that, as she continues to demonstrate, nada.
I don't go into a tizzy, I start laughing. Neither one knows anything about anything and one is clearly unbalanced. I'll leave it up to you to figure out which one. Try not to spend all day on it.
I agree with you. It would be a landslide, comparable to the one where Ronald Reagan trounced that other bastion of whacked out Liberalism, Jimmah Earl Carter………
Crackpots? Just wait.
"You shove it down our throats in '09,
We'll stick it up your ass in '10"
The election of 210, will be a rehearsal for the spanking you libtards will get in 2012.
The American People are sick of the slanted news stories that CNN, NBC, CBS and newspapers have been doing for years. Forget MSNBC… not even a player, just left wing nut cases that no one watches
.
Watch today….protest on CNN headquaters for their sorry excuse of news coverage. It will interesting to see if they cover a protest on them and IF they can count. Stay tuned.
Heads up to those business that are advertising on CNN… better start watching where your advertising dollars are spent. We are.
I guess that means she's as qualified as Obama to be President then? I do agree with you that I don't think she stands a chance YET because most ignorant people don't listen to her views and just assume that she's too far right.
You must be in pain from all the laughing. You MUST be laughing at Obama every single day with what he is "accomplishing".
Then again, the tenor of your posts make me believe that you are just another elitist who wants the government to take care of you.
Good luck with that.
The cops have "interrogation" training known as the Reid Technique.
http://www.reid.com/
I had to receive training in it as part of my duties as an internal auditor for a company I worked for which is how I know of it. I am not an expert. It is a group of interviewing techniques designed to heighten one's ability to elicit information from a subject and another group designed to elicit a confession.
Anyways one of the primary rules they stated was "so long as it is only designed to obtain the truth of a situation is it perfectly ethical to lie to a suspect". Food for thought…..
When Obama was talking about "change" and using the word "redistribution" in the same sentence, many of us knew what he was talking about. I was ridiculed for calling Obama a socialist back a year ago but stood up to the taunts at the Obama/Biden rallies with my trusty sign. We are now all suffering the consequences of Obamanation. We need folks like Andrew, Rush, Hannity, Beck, Matt and Hannah to wake up the clueless masses who voted for this man. This is a serious situation in more ways than one. If we allow Obama to continue forward with this radical plans unchallenged this will be one sorry country by 2012. It is our right and duty to stand up and be heard.
Just listen to them. Neither one knows what she is talking about. Give a little more thought to the unbalanced matter. You should be able to figure it out.
I am disappointed in what Obama has failed to accomplish. I didn't imagine he would be as middle-of-the-road as he has turned out to be.
I'm not sure I get the part about "elitists" wanting the government to take care of them. I might fit your definition of elitist, but I take care of myself fine.
Yahoo, it's the Illogical Cowboy. Time to come in from the sun, pardner.
Ambush Journalism a big no no? I guess it would be for Us but no for the likes of 60 min and CBS News in general. Andrew played them for the saps they are. Thing about what he did and how he did it, they came up with a ploy, All those in the Acorn offices had to do was to say from the get go you are asking us to help you with advise to run and unlawful business. In this case Child Prostitution and Slavery and tell them no we can help you and now live before we call the police, and then go inform the police anyway. No they didn't do that, they were fine and offered up all kinds of help. Acorn didn't get duped they got called for what they are a criminal enterprise funded by tax dollars, by corrupt government elected officials. That would be Democrats for the most part. Honorable and law abiding people would have never falling for a scam like that. Like the great P.T Barnum once said "There is a sucker born every minute" Acorn got it shove right back at them. And what is really great is that no matter what they do, it only makes it worse. It took decades for Acorn to get this entrenched, its going to take some really good people, RICO and some good lawyers to take what is really a Left Wing Mafia type outfit down. Look how long it really took to take the Mafia down and reduce to just one more street gang?
palmtree,
Is that you zippy?
Or are you justwondering with a new moniker? Things slow over at Charlie Johnsons place today?
I like you already.
Oh BTW, Fine Day down there thinks Obama is "Middle of the Road" *snicker*VVV
I'm in pain from laughing at Fine Day thinking Obama is "Middle of the Road"!
Oh my sides…bwahahahaha!
Hilarious how the article degenerates into a left wing smear just in the last two paragraphs.
'Forward, the Light Brigade!'
Was there a man dismay'd?
Not tho' the soldiers knew
Some one had blunder'd:
Their's not to make reply,
Their's not to reason why,
Their's but to do and die:
Into the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.
'Forward, the Light Brigade!'
Was there a man dismay'd?
Not tho' the soldiers knew
Some one had blunder'd:
Theirs not to make reply,
Theirs not to reason why,
Theirs but to do and die:
Into the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.
JESUS F_CKING CHRIST HOW COME I HAVEN'T HEARD OF THIS
You have heard now.

As a longtime fan of Mr. Taranto's tenure over at Opinion Journal I can't help but notice a gradual shift in his writing – from media/political gadfly to a more nuanced equivocating justifier of the current media/political culture. At best he fails to fully appreciate what is at stake in this epic struggle with progressive ideology and at worst he's enjoying the kool-aid and going native.
He's wrong to suggest that the mainstream media has ever been an "impartial watchdog and broker of information" rather than a monopolistic arbiter of what was "fit to print" or broadcast. In reality the "healthy competition" provided by Mr. Breitbart – and even Mr. Taranto himself – functions not as a substitute for "straight news," but is an indispensable ingredient in it's production.
I saw another good one. A bumper sticker. "If Obama is the answer, it must have been a stupid question."
The blog Nice Deb has been writing about this for awhile. It is revolting.
The first thing I learned here is that no substantiation is required.
